Rooted HTC 10 and VoLTE? - Verizon HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Just bought, on Swappa, a VZW HTC 10 to replace my rooted, S-Off VZW HTC One M8.
I intend to use this on a VZW MVNO, Boom, which earlier this year became the first VZW MVNO to offer VoLTE.
I've never owned a non-rooted phone before. I bought them already rooted, I've never actually done the rooting process myself, but have experience in flashing ROMs, I know what TWRP and SU are and how they work, etc. Not a complete newbie.
The phone I've bought is already running Nougat. So I'm aware that to get it S-Off and rooted, I'm going to need to send it to J-Case, which will delay me activating/using phone.
My question ... and it's not the ultimate newbie question about "which is the best ROM," I've learned to do that homework on my own. I've also done some searches and not really found a clear answer.
Will I still get VoLTE if I S-Off and root this phone and use an alternate ROM? Because getting VoLTE is the only reason I stayed with a VZW phone and didn't go GSM instead of CDMA.
Thanks!

Deleted. Sorry.

Yes, you will still get VoLTE. It works in the various Sense ROMs as well as LOS ROMs. I'm On Verizon and currently on Resurrection Remix and it works fine. See icon in status bar.

Hey man, I'm also on rr rom and n firmware with that volte icon in status bar but when I make a call I'm unable to use 4g so volte isn't actually working for me. You can confirm that it does for you? Do you mind grabbing me a ss of on call with still showing 4g by chance? Not sure why it's not working for me.

No need to apologize my friend!

So I guess I have to choose between VoLTE and the advantages of rooting at least for now. I'll see if VoLTE is that big a deal and go from there. Thanks for input.

Maybe not with a custom ROM, but running stock, rooted with Magisk VoLTE works fine here.

Stock rooted HTC 10 VZW variant running Viper10 Rom and VoLTE works for me. You might have to downgrade the firmware and sunshine soff and unlock bootloader then update the Rom and check the network settings via the phone info menu that's hidden. That's where you can set everything as far as Radio Band and cell signal
Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk

I may have to contact J-Case and see about S-off since this is already on Nougat. I'm not a tinkerer ... I'm still running flipping Lollipop LOL! on my M8 because everything still works fine and I don't like change for the sake of change ... but I like debloat, AdAway and AF Wall, plus rooting goes along with my control freak nature. As noted, I just don't want to screw up the VoLTE.

I'm dealing with this same issue right now. Bought an SM-S975L for straight talk last night and I want to use it on Metro PCS. Metro says all is well on their end and I just have to wait, but all I see is "Invalid Sim" on the status bar. How did you unlock the SM-S975L? There's very limited information around the internet about this model. I'm tearing my hair out and the wifey is driving around without a phone. Figured you (or anybody else) could point me in the right direction.

LOL, the $249 deal was hard to pass up. I got a couple of them, one for me and one for the misses. She'll be fine with the 4.3 that is on the phone out of the box, but I wanted to convert mine to be like the I9505G (GPE). I was thinking it would be simple as I've heard all of the LTE models were like the I9505 and they seem fairly broken into. But I think this is more like the SGH-I337 and maybe boot loader locked, but looking into ways to test that. I did root it already using towelroot. Installed SuperSU and Titanium Backup and root is working, now so see if I can get CMW and a GPE rom on it. If I find a way I'll be sure it is mentioned here as a working method for the SM-S975L. I'm not using it yet as I have my GT-I9500 that I'm using, but seeing better support for the qualcomm for custom roms I decided to get it. The I9500 should get Android 5.0 official rom first though.
For what it's worth, I just picked up this phone from the Black Friday sale, and I would *really* like to put a custom ROM on it. I won't even pretend to be proficient in this. How difficult would it be to convert the custom ROMs on other models of Galaxy S4's to this one?
I am unsure my self the closest variant is the att s4. Both the att one and this one is bootloader locked. Since we have 4.3 version of Android safestrap would be likely what to use. I am afraid of this my self so I have not attempted it

Whoa whoa whoa. What am I looking at? It looks like that's the model of the T-mobile variant, but the baseband is the same as the S975L!?

Even a custom kernel flashed! What.

It is the SM-S975L with a T-Mobile ROM and the custom kernel. The SGH-I337 ROM does not work, it erases the system partition every flash.
Awesome work aromerblz. Anything special you had to do to load the ROM with the S975 baseband...or any issues you're experiencing? Will be testing this out later in the week when I get some free time.

That is cool, at the very least its Kit Kat. I still would like to find a method to convert completely to GT-I9505G. Just no time. I'm hoping with jtag access it can be completely reconfigured, then just make sure the IMEI is set to that the device should be. Ideally the only way to see it was a SM-S975L would be to look under the battery. I don't really care about removing the SIM lock though, I plan to stick with my ST SIM. I did get a new BYOD SIM and it is showing 4G now (Not sure if it should indicate LTE like old ATT S3 does) as my old BYOD SIM would not and ST support said that I could not move the included SIM to any other device as it would be bound to the S975L.
I would love to get off the Tracfone ROM. I'm going to assume that Samsung/Tracfone will never upgrade this phone beyond Android 4.3. The last native update was in February of this year, and it was just a minor patch. I'm not too concerned about unlocking, but being able to use a different ROM seems to be a step in the right direction. If anyone could post a tutorial or what ROMs they used, that would be extremely helpful. I've looked everywhere and this info is not available anywhere.
For what it's worth, someone over on GSM Forums has claimed to have flashed the AT&T ROM too. They also were unable to unlock it, however. Unfortunately, I can't post the direct link until I have hit 10 posts That poster has been inactive for two months, and before that, he was inactive for three years. It may be hard to get in touch with him..

I first flashed a T-Mobile TWRP recovery v27.1, but the latest v28 works fine. After that i downloaded the TMB firmware NB4 from sammobile.com created a custom rom with the android kitchen. After that the usual flashing of the rom via TWRP. Without a custom kernel the phone does not boot up. So i used the ktoonsez kernel. Once booted i rooted with towelroot and pjone has been working fine. Only things to know is that when booting up it says "Kernel is not SeAndroid"
"Set Warranty Bit: Kernel"
As that specifies it trips the knox flag. Which i dont care if it does as am not in the USA.
You used the TWRP for jfltetmo, correct? Did you use Odin to flash it?
Also, this might seem obvious, but even if I do this, it'll still work/remain locked to ST/AT&T, correct?

Yeah TWRP for jfltetmo. The jflteatt does not seem to work at all on this model. I flashed with odin, no need to use safestrap on this phone as i think the bootloader is not locked like the one found on the SGH-I337, although its the identical variant.
Yes the phone remains locked to ST/AT&T. A friend of mines was able to get the unlock cod for this phone but even with the unlock code its not a permanent lock. Reason is because you can unlock and be able to use all the features available to the phone but once restarted it asks for the code again. Not sure why it does that, I believe the radio has to be the culprit for that here. Not sure how TracFone will handle the unlocks for this phone after 01/01/15. does the same even on full stock TF firmware.

I have a Verizon s5 rooted using it with net 10 in the states just fine. I have some issues with not being able to get data to turn off on the custom roms. It should work with tmo, though I really couldn't tell you if you would be able to keep 4g.

You ca keep 4G only if the area has a good reception afterall t mo uses Band 4 which luckily gs5 verizon supports, for the hotspot youll need to use foxify free on google playstore or since your rooted get the latest stock update from the general section ill suggest you use the OD5 by @muniz_ri http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...w-to-update-to-g900vod5-5-0-keeproot-t3136945 dowload that rom and flash the tether fix zip

You can't downgrade from aph1 the latest update updated the bootloader. But you can still have data, messaging, etc with the aph1 update just takes a bit of tinkering.

LOL I didn't notice how much Adaware did until I didn't have it.
There are a few things more im missing but 930u is a huge step in the right direction. I need to do more research I guess been years since I've had to root a device I almost took this thing back an went back to my s5 after the first day.
I know about Sam Mobile but it's links are super slow unless you pay, I was trying to find a decent free link.
I don't even need a custom rom I'm stoked on this one as is, I'd be happy with this an xsposed modules.

Well I had a hard time getting the LTE and messaging to work with root. 930u when I rooted I could not change my apns I couldn't add new ones either. I tried using ##data# to go in and fix my apns that way but I needed my msl which sprint refused to give me. On sprint firmware tho all u have to do is go to build prop and change ro.cdma.default_alpha it says chameleon after the root process change it to Sprint and ro.cdma.default_numeric from 310000 to 310120 and restart ur phone.

Difficulties after switching to T-Mobile

Hey guys! Thanks in advance for any help or clarity you can provide.
I had to switch to T-Mobile from Verizon. My device isn't rooted, modified, or in any way different than factory. However because of the switch I've had some functionality that I've lost. Namely the ability to get software updates. This phone has been rooted before, and I'm very comfortable with the process of loading up different software. The question I can't find anything on is whether or not installing the T-Mobile firmware will brick/cripple the device. I know there are different chipsets so I'm trying to figure out the best way to keep my phone up to date without being on Verizon anymore.

I tried finding something about loading the T-Mobile firmware on a Verizon device but I haven't had any luck. Only guides on doing a regular firmware update on a T-Mobile device. Should I be worried about the Exynos/Snapdragon differences? I hate asking for something so simple, but could you please point me in the right direction? I'd LIKE to try and go that route, because the U firmware had poor battery life, a lot of heat generation, and requires a patch just to get wifi to work. Then again maybe I'm thinking of the eng boot we had for rooti. I do love my all day battery quite a bit.
Thanks in advance.

T-Mobile, Verizon, and the U phones all have snapdragon processors. No need to worry about that.
Read through this thread here as it pertains somewhat to what you're trying to accomplish. Read it from start to finish so you don't miss anything important.

I'm familiar with flashing the U firmware, as I did this on my Sprint s7, but my understanding was that just flashing the U firmware didn't open up the bands. But are you saying that flashing the U firmware alone was enough to get TMobile fully working?

My understanding it does. The hardware between the phone's should be the same so it's software that's affecting it. But the U firmware won't allow wifi calling and other carrier specific things unless you're rooted. So pick and choose.

Galaxy S7 Flat -- no signals after flashing Rom? Plz help

Hello guys,
I've started to freak out a bit now as I can't get no signal on my S7 ( GM-930P) whatsoever.
I had my phone running ok ( living outside of USA ) everything seemed fine.
Flashed the GM-930V firmware to jump on the Nougat beta ( everything worked fine n sweet )
Wanted to try the Custom roms ( Eco signals worked fine ) experienced FC and insane batt drain
Tried the Stangfire customrom v2 ( signals worked fine ) experienced a weird UI glitch after rebooting
decided to go back to the Nougat beta as it felt a lot stable and the batt life was great
Now that's where things go south for me. I had no signals at all and my sim card doesnt seems to be recognized at all
i tried all sort of things after that. flashing back to sprint firmware / verizon / nougat beta / custom roms all works fine except i have no signals whatsoever trying diff roms on the signal bars it either shows a " X " or a " Circle with a line through it "
when i try to perform any dial codes in the dialer it doesn't seems to work either eg" *#06# " it doesn't brings up the imei window it just stays there and when i hit the call button it pops up " Mobile Network no Available "
it must have something to do with the baseband or the radio maybe? can someone pls help me with this ?

Have you tried going back to a stock sprint firmware?
Sent from my SM-G930U using XDA-Developers mobile app
Yes I have jumped back to every single firmware stock ( sprint, verizon, the G930U ) Nougat beta, Custom roms everything works except the call service i get a cross over the signal bars and the moment i insert a sim ( tried 2 diff carriers ) i get the " invalid sim " error msg pop up.
Am not living in USA and i have bought this phone locally it was working fine. I can't reactivate it with a Sprint sim for obvious reasons as am not in USA

Well seeing as how you bought a sprint version s7 there's a simple answer being you f***** up. It's a locked bootloader. Have you done no research before attempting to do any mods to this phone? I have nonsolution for you but I wanted to. Comment on how your stupidity ****ed your phone up. You're the problem with society. Oh cool new phone I'm gonna do a bunch of.stuff and make it awesome etc and then you **** it up and ***** and moan looking for someone to fix your mistake. If you had any common sense you would have done some research first. I hope your phone doesn't work ever again.

I hope your phone doesn't work ever again.

well first of all thanks for taking time and reading through but dude am not the reason why he/she left u lolx chill. I actually did flash the phone on diff firmwares quite successfully from Sprint to verizon to the G930U even did the Verizon to Nougat beta update from there got back to sprint and then installed a Eco custom rom. So for u saying u can't flash ( don't know what u mean by mod ) this phoen i think u need to grow some balls and try. It actually works has nothing to do with a locked bootloader i wasn't trying to flash a custom recovery. I did somehow get it into a locked state somehow i agree but not cuz am so stupid not to read through ( if u use your common sense what u advised to me ) many of the posts and threads actually say this and this firmware for this and this variant of the phone.
Chill bro and am sorry if u got your phone f**** up the same way. It would have been an easy fix if i was living in the US just plug yr sprint sim in activate and u are back in business. In my case i can't do that but i can still get it back working if i pay a certain amount i just was just trying to see what chances i have got to get it back accept my sim without paying so am really sorry to let u know my phone would get back fixed

Show me this research he was suppose to find saying he'd lose call capabilities once he switched to different fw on his sprint s7 using an international service provider... Root research is limited on this device if no one tries anything new there will be no development on the device. You want to be scared and keep ur device not "awesome" fine but don't put down someone cause they asked for help.

Exactly there is always going to be someone to test the waters so for others it's clear not to do the wrongs we did and that's how it works . I still am not sure what triggered it cuz i did try out every single firmware and the 2 custom roms " Eco and Stang5liter " as far as i can remember I flashed Stang5liter custom rom and i was on the G930U firmware ( i think that rom was meant for Verizon firmware )
Rom Version:
G935VVRU2APEI[/COLOR]
Model number
G930V
Android security patch level
August 1 2016
Baseband Version
G930UUEU4API3
i think this is what caused the phone to go back to it's locked status as the baseband didn't match/was more updated than the Rom build ( totally my mistake ) maybe something ppl should be paying attention when flashing to a custom rom
