Android os = apps . Facebook maybe ?
You're experiencing wakelocks. Might wanna do some research on the forum so that you can post logs for people to analyze what's really eating your battery.

THIS. I was having problems with wakelocks and traced them back to these few things below which got my battery life to greatly increase once disabled.
1) using dashclock extensions like FB and gmail
2) leaving google sync on in settings for the various google services
3) corporate email exchange servers
4) setting a long time variable for the phone to lock after the screen turns off (i did this to prevent putting in a pin to unlock but it kept the phone awake after the screen turned off)
5) live wall papers
There is also a known issue in the stock kernel that causes the phone to stay awake when it is supposed to go into sleep mode during extended periods of inactivity. This can be solved by using a custom kernel just as Franco r90 which has implemented patches in order to allow the phone to go into sleep to preserve battery. It is expected to be fixed in the next official OTA from google although this was also expected to be in 4.2.2 and was not fixed fully.
Same issue here. 4.2.2 stock kernel+rom, rooted
BBS shows "suspend_backoff" is at 45% no idea what's causing that.
Disabled pretty much all of the sync services but no improvement.
Interestingly right after the 4.2.2 update, the battery life was good.

Update: Worked for a day now suspend_backoff is back. Happened after a recharge.
Could it be that afther the phone is charged something gets changed.

I'm having the same problem with the Android OS draining lots of battery. When I reboot it sometimes helps but not consistently unfortunately.

I have narrowed my problem down to places where I use wifi transmitted by a lot of routers (Office wifi)

I turn off my wifi when not home so I don't think that's the issue here.. I've tried removing a few apps like dash clock and my live wallpaper to see if it helps my issue. Will report back.

Google play services has something to do with the high usage. Yesterday I was near 20% usage today I disabled it and android os is at 7%. It only affects YouTube app for me, but the browser version is fine. I haven't seen any adverse affects other than maybe losing updates to the play store and ota updates which I don't care about because that's what xda and Roms are for. Now it may be placebo, but it also seems like the ui is smoother. Battery has improved greatly with sot of 3 hours with 57% left.

how do you disable Google play services?
Try using the app greenify if your rooted.. It's been helping my battery life. Use it on maps and that will help. If maps is set as a system app, move it or just install banks minimal gapps so you can download from play store.

So, I've been having some battery issues lately and I can't really tell why. I haven't been doing anything too extreme, but my battery is almost dead within 12 hours of a charge, and the highest usage is mostly the Kernel and/or OS. I know next to nothing about that side of things, so I exported reports from GSam, and I'm hoping someone will be able to translate them for me if there's an obvious problem. Thanks in advance!
(I've also uninstalled Boxer, I only had it because Pro was free yesterday.)

Keep the location enabled.
Are you using any of the smart stay/air view etc. controls?
If not turn them ALL off.

As far as I know, location is always turned on (meaning I never turn it off myself). One of the first things I did was turn off all the smart crap, and turn off every piece of bloatware I could in the settings (I'm not rooted).

I usually restart it every other day, give or take. It's gone a couple days without it before. I don't usually have it off for more than a couple minutes at a time though.

That's not good. :-/
I install apps often, but I just as often uninstall them...I guess that's not much help. If it was one of them though, wouldn't it show up under the battery log?

Bad network will drain your battery. Check how the signal is.
Android OS and Kernel are normal between 12-25% on 4.4.2. It's an issue with the battery reporting.
It looks like you've got a wakelock. 12% per hour means it's not going into deep sleep.
Check Wakelock Detector to see if it's going into deep sleep or not. (It needs root for everything else, but that still works.)

Stated in reply post that the phone is not rooted.
My advice will be to uninstall apps one at time to find the one causing the drain.

And neither is mine. Wakelock detector still works in the tab that shows Deep Sleep vs Awake. As I said by 'Everything else requires root, but that still works'.

That varies. At home, I have great signal (full-signal 4G, router is never more than 20 feet away). Some places in town, I can drop to 3G, especially my grandparents (although my grandma does have a router I'm connected to). There's a weird (unrelated?) bug where if I drop to 3G, I either have to turn airplane mode on or wait several hours until it reverts back to 4G, even though I'll be back in a verified 4G area.

I will definitely check that out and use it tonight. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll get back to you on what it says. What generally causes the wakelocks, specific apps? Or just poorly set-up preferences?

Usually apps. Facebook, Skype, some games. Although Mediascanner(Android process) is also known to be responsible for it quite often.

It looks like PayPal was one of the culprits? For some reason?
I did find out I could root extremely easily, so did so and downloaded Greenify, so I'm hoping I can tweak enough to get my battery life back.

That does seem to be the case... Either uninstall paypal or drop it in the Greenify list.
Google Search is probably either the widget or you're using Google Now.

By widget, do you mean the search bar? I use Nova, and I've removed that, so it must be Google Now. I don't use it often, but it does leave me weather cards and shipping info, so would that be it?

I don't think they're related, but I can't be a hundred percent sure. You can try disabling both Google Search ones under apps -> all, see what that does to the info updates. If it scrambles them, just turn them back on.
(There's two Google Search, one is the search bar, the other is the app related to it.)
With that and Paypal dealt with, battery life should improve significantly.

Happy to help Let's hope that solves it! Also don't forget to greenify Paypal (Or uninstall it if you don't need it), as that seems to be the main culprit.
SInce Greenify works with the new MOFO method, I thought it would be interesting to see how it's affecting the Turbo's already superior battery life. How much further are people getting on a single charge?
i completely forgot about that. i will let you know. may take a couple days though to really see.
I've been using greenify since owning the turbo. Without xposed, root only allows for hibernation without having to turn the screen on. Otherwise, I haven't noticed much of a difference - though it is nice not watching the screen turn on, stop processes, then turn off many times a day.

i thought without root it could not autohibernate. before root you had ot manually hit the button to close apps. at least i couldnt find a way to have it auto hibernate without root

No it can auto hibernate without root. You just have to set greenify as a device administrator - and it has to turn the screen on to stop apps. This function may require the paid version (dont remember), but not root. I think root may also allow hibernation of system apps, but even then I think that was an option without root.

My workaround was to use fast reboot pro since it stops apps without root or turning on the screen.
Haven't rooted my turbo yet (not paying for it when they give disclaimers and there was a bounty) but frp seems to save some battery plus switching to ART helps as well.
I don't think greenify will do much difference because it requires more of cpu downclocking and Governor change.

Huh? Greenify does not "downclock" or change your governor. It keeps wake locks down, and prevents apps from using battery by running when they don't need to be.

My battery barelly holds 16 hours and I have the donation package of greenify. What am I doing wrong? My Z2 battery used to hold like 18~20 hours or even more.

I am well aware of that. My lack of not seperating the sentences may have brought confusion. What I was implying, was that greenify won't do so much of a difference because to obtain legit battery improvements it requires tweaking of kernel and cpu and governors and achieve the best battery possible.

Do not be mislead to how many hours it lasts in the long run of quantity but focus on screen on time which matters most. I am not rooted whatsoever and I constantly achieve this battery life.

I see. I do think greenify does its job, and certainly helps battery life (especially in conjunction with xposed). I would, and I am sure many others would agree that it's still an effective and legitimate tool. I agree, not as much so as throttling, but that's not really what I thought this thread was about. We are unfortunately far from kernel tweaks at the moment ☺

apps not waking the cpu from deep sleep and being more efficient than a super fast cpu running more slowly and performing the tasks for longer. sounds better to me at least thats the idea behind the new job scheduler api in 5.x and greenify thats longer that all the components on the phone have to be operating and creating heat Im not an expert but my 2 cents

So I am using the original root image from mofo, with Greenify Donation Package installed, so I get auto hibernation, but not the system function hibernation....yet. I may be updating to an Xposed image soon, to unlock those features. I have every app possible except Carbonite Mobile (Auto Pic/Video backup/access) and TextSecure ( 3rd party SMS/MMS) set to auto-hibernate, including my 3rd party email K-9 Mail, I don't use the normal GMail app. With my current combination, normal usage inc. phone calls, texts, (mostly) web browsing or stalking the XDA app, I got a whopping ~53 hours of battery life before I had to charge at 2%. My phone is also my alarm clock. Unfortunately I forgot to take a screen shot, but I will try and duplicate it and take one.

That's intense.
Just rooted and got xposed working last night to hibernate some system apps. Excited to see how it works.
Sooooooooo..... Battery life with greenify and lux after root and disabling bloat. My location services are on high accuracy. My Bluetooth is always on with my moto 360. Wi-Fi and data are also always on. I receive all notifications. How can I ask for any better.....

Because of the moto 360 not a lot of screen time. I reply and skip music through through the watch.
So for people like me that means a lot. Just news when I'm free for screen on time.

So after updating facebook and messenger (facebook) I've found huge wakelocks in bbs. Anyone else having this issue? It's related to some kind of bug reporting?

It's causing massive wake time if left alone for a few hours. I went ahead and limited the wakelocks in amplify. Set it to allow them every 10th hour on trial. We'll see if that causes any problem.
I noticed this too. I watch battery like a hawk but this is the first time Facebook had shown much drain in the last few months. This was build still 59.0.0.3.313
Looks like tonight's build still has the issue.
I recommend reporting in the Facebook app itself.

I've disabled them both in amplify. I don't feel I want battery every spent on uploading any form of reports. I've also limited facebook wakelocks apart from this to every 15th minute. It's spending too much battery on something irrelevant.
Reported it already.
Even my fiancee's Galaxy S5 (which can usually get through to the end of the day with 65+% battery left) was saying that her battery has been draining very quickly.
So I know Facebook in general gets a bad reputation, but as someone who watches wakelocks on a daily basis and the battery page, this is really the first instance of Facebook misbehaving in at least 2-3 years.

The background drain isn't TOO Terrible. It's around ~2.5% / hour screen off on LTE (honestly that's what I got on a OnePlus One on Lollipop anyway), while the screen on drain was around 25% / hr
BTW, are you using Facebook/Messenger beta? I'm only in the Facebook beta program, so I don't see any issues for Messenger on my side yet.

Not using betas. I can't agree regarding facebook and battery life. It'd suppose to use cgm but still it had a heap of timers going off and the app is ever high in wakelock detector. I've had enough and now limited most of its alarms and wakelocks in amplify to no more often than every 15 mins. This has lowered facebooks position in the wakelock list to a much more acceptable level. No problems arise either apart from not getting notifications as expected but that's been a problem for years over multiple handsets.
I can even confirm it, the same wakelocks and drain have been appearing on my OnePlus One too.
I use amplify and prevent wakelocks to everything pertaining to Facebook to 86400s. That's once per day and haven't had any detrimental effects from the app. All still works as it should.

What version of Facebook are you on?
BTW Facebook does use GCM. IT only uses MQTT when you are actively in the Messenger app. I'm not entirely certain what's going on here. The wakelock is com.facebook.bugreporter.scheduler.LollipopService so it seems to be bug reporting related and not notification related.

Oh! Funny thing is, I've limited the mqtt stuff and I've had zero issues getting messages right away when screen is on or off in messenger but thanks to the mods facebook stuff is now farther down on the list of wakelocks rather than high. If those mqtts were only used when active, why use wakelocks for it at all? And why do they creep up in count when the screen is off? 60.0.0.2.76

MQTT is only used when the app is in the foreground meaning its being actively used and screen on. Therefore it shouldn't cause wakelocks. I'm guessing MQTT is used because GCM can see delayed notifications sometimes. MQTT is probably better suited for real time chat.
What wakelock are you seeing? Is it the one I posted earlier? If so I'm not sure if that sure it has anything to do with the actual chatting and communication portion of the app. The wakelock has to do with a bugreporter, which is misbehaving when your screen is off.
I think I know the answer, but no way to help this without root right?
I can confirm, same problem on Nexus 5x (not rooted) latest version of Facebook... Updated this morning, caused wakelocks, uninstalled, problem solved. Shame I have to uninstall it to fix...
I have 60.0.0.5 now... Facebook simply minimizes itself automatically now. Anyone else seeing this behavior? I have greenify on Facebook as well as amplify to limit some wakelock. Might be the cause...
I am seeing this issue as well with com.facebook.bugreporter.scheduler.LollipopService causing massive drain.
I just have Messenger 53.0.0.17.308.
Since I do not want to install Xposed + Amplify to address the issue, is there a way to block this Job? I am digging into MyAndroidTools, but I can't find anything like that in Messenger services or Activities.
EDIT: According to BetterBatteryStats, it's a Service, but I can't find it.
EDIT2: By changing display mode in MyAdroidTools, I was able to find the service, the normal display name is Lollipop Service. However, if disabled, the app does not work properly, closes as soon it's opened.
same here guys!nexus 5 with cm13. huge wakelock with facebook and messenger. I tryed to greenify it but it doesn't work and after few minutes they come back again. I have to hybernate them with SDMaid app and it works well, but of course once hybernate i can't use them anymore until i dishybernate. Any solution?i don't use xposed..:crying:

And by the way, the guide doesn't include having to disable any feature, it's just using common sense to tune the settings.

Facebook lite is the only decent one. Meanwhile their other apps, Facebook & Instagram, are known battery robbers (analytics / logging?). This has been the case for years.

This issue could be because your phone is not entering deep sleep due to the VoiP callling bug (when you perform, whatsapp or facebook call) the proximity sensor activates and avoids the phone to enter deep sleep, a restart after the call will fix it, but also updatong your phone to thw latest official update ASCA fixes this issue.

I never called anyone on whatsapp and fb, and i restart ed my phone and its my the latest update..

That's for sure does nothing.
From your screen shot I see that is normal ,same like me. Somtime worse than yours. Damn I am still think return it
I have the exynos version and it's a battery beast. During normal work days I go to sleep and battery is still at 50%.
Today it's Sunday and I am literally using the phone way too much. I have almost 6 hours shot and battery is as 50%...
