Turned my Note DE into a retail, oops. - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 General

Well I screwed up last night and flashed a retail BOF1 to my DE. I just got off the phone with Samsung to ship it back and have them reflash the phone. I hope they dont just flash it with a retail image and ship it back, that will make me mad.
If anyone has any suggestions, I do have a flashable aboot that wont flash due to the [aboot] fused 2 > Binary 1 error.

I sent my DE edition in for a screen repair and they updated it to the latest developer edition lollipop. It was on Kit Kat when I sent it in, so you shouldn't have any problems.

I haven't gotten the chance to give it a try yet. I did confirm that it was developer software though. I'll let you know when I get a chance.

I had a similar situation, I sent the phone for repair (a hardware defect). In my initial conversation with the Samsung rep, I told them it was a developer edition. 2 weeks later, phone came back fixed and updated but with a locked bootloader. I had to send it the second time, and follow up with them over the phone multiple times, tell them it's a developer edition and the boot loader should be unlocked. Even the second time, they tested it and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it!
My advice, make sure it's written very clearly in the comments that you locked it by mistake, and insist to talk to someone from the service center about the actual problem, otherwise you may receive it back locked.

Do you happen to have a service center near where you live? We have one here in LA that is walk in only. It's an Official Samsung Service Center. You take your phone and they usually have it for an hour in the back and tell you to come back or go to Starbucks. When you go back, they have repaired your phone or replaced it if needed.
You may check the Samsung site if you're not sure.

No I live in the central valley, but i could do a trip to LA if it comes back unrepaired. I just ordered a Nexus 6p as my backup phone
Edit: I may just head to LA this weekend as it is going to take 11 business days to get this fixed if i ship it.

I bought my phone from a guy here. When he first got it the rom had some corruption in it so he sent it back to Samsung to get it reflashed. They screwed up and flashed it with the retail bootloader. So he sent it back again and the second time they got it right. Then he switched to T-Mobile so he sold it to me. It's been the perfect phone. It will be even better once Android 6 comes out.

Well i talked to the people in LA, they had no clue what the developer edition was and kept asking if i tripped knox, i told them it didnt matter all i wanted was the unit reflashed with developer code. They said they couldn't help me that all they have in the store is retail flash code.

Considering what I've read on here about people at Samsung not knowing about it, it doesn't surprise me. I wonder if you just gave them the full model number if it would make a difference.

From what I've heard, there's a small crew at Samsung that has the ability to set up an aboot partition and they are the only people who can.

Got my phone back from Samsung today. They flashed BOG5 developer firmware to the phone, WOOT! Now i need to decide if i'm going to keep the nexus or the note. What's great is they didn't even charge me for the service!

Samsung repair centres in the Uk and super hard brick, revive by USB JIG?

Does anyone know a website for official repair centres or locations in the Uk?
Also...I think I have a super hard brick as my phone is not responding to anything, PC can't detect it. Does that mean Sunsung won't know if I have flashed a custom rom and how many times?
Is it possible to revive via a USB jig and how?
Thanks.

Guess its possible if the connection drops in the middle of an installation and you`re stuck when the download might not be complete or corrupt, especialy when going from GB to ICS.

Here http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/repair/supportRepairSelfTracking.do?page=REPAIR.TRACKING
First register if you don't already have an account and request for repair. You will have the option to take it to a repair centre near you or send it to them for repair. I bricked mine when i flashed ICS, Binary count was zero but i had CMW installed. My phone was repaired free with no issues. I would advise you to just send it to them if your binary count has not increased. You will need to wait 2 weeks for repair though.
I was referring to the story I will tell Carphone Warehouse and Sunsung, I can't exactly go and tell then I flashed a custom rom that I made, they'll probably try and con me for begin so stupid for what I did.

Thanks for the advice, i've been flashing for ages now and never a problem, this is the first time I have ever bricked.
Btw...will they know my binary count with a hard brick?
I'm going to make a trip to Maplins tomorrow to buy a resistor and a connector to make a quick USB JIG before I send it off, sending it off is a last resort.
Pm me if you need any help sending it off and I will see what I can with regards a repair.

I had a superbrick, where the phone wouldn't even switch on (Also my first brick even though i've been doing it for years). So I couldn't reset any binary counters or restore any firmware to hide what i'd done. It was as it was, and I sent it off to Samsung and they replaced the motherboard FOC for me
USB JIG was no use. You may as well make yourself a JIG for future reference, but I think in this instance, it might be a waste of time.
All I said was, that I restarted the phone and after that it wouldn't switch on again - That was it. They replaced the motherboard for me

I doubt they will know if the phone does not turn on at all but if you can get to download mode so can they. And they will know your binary count from there. I have also been flashing for ages and this is my first time as well bricking a phone. It doesn't feel good at all.
I've went through the service centre and it needs to be sent off to Glasgow in Scotland, is it not possible to deliver it to a closer repair centre?

[Q] help my bricked galaxy S4 MF3

Installed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.font.installer&hl=en tried a custom font... BRICK
Things I tried to unbrick with
1.flashing a pit file in odin
Not tried
1. BestBuy, gonna trip out there after my college classes.
2. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Unbrick-Ser...t-/271267344770?ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123 would like to do this only as a last resort as i am broke right now.
I'm posting on XDA for some help/suggestions on what i should do. (please note I have no custom recovery)
Also I saw someone say they put their phone on T-Mobile and took a T-Mobile OTA to replace the MF3 and then bootloader unlocked the T-Mobile update.
Edit: I do have the SGH-1337 sim unlocked currently running on airvoice going to make the switch to T-Mobile sometime this week.
Don't mess with the pit file. Best case, it didn't do anything, worst case I'd it messes up your phone worse that it is. You never mentioned what state your phone is in. Did it boot? Boot into download or what.
I think your best bet is best buy. They seem to be able to flash the mf3 firmware. It's basically the same thing jtag would do and it's free.

Except kies doesn't have mf3...and more often than not makes the phone worse than before as it does a partial flash of (older) MDL until it gets stopped due to bootloader

You'd probably be better off going to a Best Buy that has a "Samsung Experience" booth. They can flash it back to stock MF3. The normal BB service counter will have no clue what your talking about.

Glad you got it back working. There's no way it'll ever be able to be downgraded.

Regaining your warranty.

Hi there everyone. I just wanted to share my experience in regaining my voided warranty. Not too long ago, I had attempted rooting my galaxy s4 I9500 for the first time, it had been a successful root and went ahead with flashing a custom rom which had also been successful.
Now this is where I went wrong, being the first time I had ever attempted these things, I got rather excited and went a little too far without reading carefully and attempted installing a ROM from the I9505 section and the required gapps. As you can imagine, my device blacked out. At this point I started freaking out and decided to go to the Samsung care center not far from me. I explained what I had done and the technician informed me that I had lost my warranty but not to worry it could be restored.
I was told to give him an hour and when I returned I received my device with the stock firmware installed and a note informing me that my warranty had been given back to me. Here are the screens to prove it.
So for $15 I had my device restored to original factory settings and an intact warranty in writing from Samsung.

Tried 4.2.2 MDJ and MG1 and still the same problem except now wifi doesnt turn on
4.3 MK6 fails on Odin
4.4.2 (which im on right now)
Update:
i went to the samsung store and they wanted to flash the firmware, but the tech guy at the store couldn't get kies to recognize the phone.
i bought the phone second hand off someone through craigslist and she claimed it was unlocked.
the model of the phone was SGH-I337M.
the samsung technician told me that if it were to be factory unlocked, it would be an international model, not a canadian.
being that it is canadian, he told me that my S4 was probably unlocked by being tampered with.
i asked the lady whom i bought the phone from (luckily she still responded), if she has ever tampered with the phone and she told me no.
she said she bought it from the store as unlocked.
so he printed me an official paper notice verifying that the phone has indeed been tampered with, to bring with me to where the phone was originally sold.
i have yet to go to the store and ask the people there if they can do anything to fix it, and if they DO happen to tell me to check with samsung, thats what the paper is for.
mind you the store isnt any official carrier store or anything. its a store in a chinese mall called "SK Mobile".

update killed my phone

Hi All,
So about an hour ago I searched for an update knowing that Verizon was supposed to be pushing out a security update today. It found an update and installed it. After reboot, the phone will not start. The splash screen shows the unlocked lock and the word "custom." The next screen says "Start Up Failed - Your device didn't start up successfully. Use the Verizon Software Repair Assistant on a computer to repair your device. Connect your device to your computer to get the Verizon Software Repair Assistant." More specifically, in the corner it says "Custom binary blocked by SECURE BOOT (boot.img)."
The Verizon Software Repair Assistant doesn't pop up when I plug it into my computer, and I can't find it online.
Ironically this is the ONE phone I have not actually tinkered with so yeah... VZW said they will most likely have to ship my work a new phone for replacement. I can't expedite that since I'm not authorized on the work account. Is there an image for Odin floating around that I can use to flash this myself? Help me please!!!
You did tinker, you tried to install the wrong/a bad file.
Odin to stock, there's a thread in one of the S7/S7e forums with the Verizon stock files.

where did you "find" this update? unless you went to settings and hit software update, you probably downloaded an incorrect update for the wrong phone, which soft bricked it. needs a re-flash.

I did in fact hit software update and let the phone search for the update itself. I have no reason to lie about this. I'm the first to admit when I screw up. I see someone has the firmwares on his mediashare in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65764861&postcount=14. I just requested access to the file I need.

UPDATE: I was able to get the phone back to life by doing a recovery boot (power up + home button + power). Previously, I was doing it the LG G2 way not using the home button. The phone booted all the way but now it still says I'm "custom." I'm holding off on using Odin to flash the full stock firmware because I've read that it won't reset that custom thing. Thoughts on Odin?
If you flash a factory image you should be good. Just make sure it's for the variant you are using.
Another update: I spoke with a great VZW rep today and explained everything. She posted an androidcentral forum link in the ticket where a woman had the same exact thing happen to her on her GS6. She also put in there that my valid is still valid. So that's that and I'll just keep using the phone as is now.
I just got the pop up for the OTA too...anyone had luck with it?

Same here. Appears to be some sort of security updates but no details. It does not include the March patches from Google.
Maybe you are rooted while upgrading your device into a new firmware? Some of peoples have problems with this.

If he is rooted he'd be the only rooted Verizon S7, so I doubt it.

Definitely wasn't rooted. I still suspect some goofball engineer at VZW in my area posted the update before it was signed properly or something like that. The phone has been working great though. It was a worthy upgrade from my LG G2.
