Defy Plus MB 526 - Hanging at M logo after CM7 install - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am new here and, although I have searched existing threads for this old phone, I have been unable to overcome what I guess is a simple problem for some of you clever people out there . . .
Having rooted the phone, I then followed explicitly what I took to be straightforward instructions from other posts here - thus:
1. Switch on and await blue LED
2. Press volume down to enter Android Boot Menu (v 1.1.8-jordan)
3. Recovery
4. Custom Recovery > Cyanogen Defy Recovery (v 5.0.3.1-jordan)
5. Wipe Data / Factory Reset
6. Wipe Cache Partition
7. Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache
8. Install zip from SD card (cm7-20130301-NIGHTLY-jordan_plus)
9. Toggle signature verification to Disabled
10. Toggle script asserts to Disabled
11. Choose zip from SD card
12. Apply zip from SD card
13. Reboot
14. Hangs at M logo
Tried with and without step 10.
The last STABLE jordan plus is nowhere to be found, so I tried the only two available nightlies.
I will be ever so grateful if someone can tell please me what I am doing wrong, and what I should do to complete the boot up. I am truly a beginner on this Android and CM stuff, so please be gentle. It is step-by-step guidance that I need please.
Thanks in anticipation . . .

[Q] Typhoon Mod Question

Hello,
I have an hd2 US 1024 rom version with the newest imei 35777.... I had a later version of Typhoon mod installed on my phone and installed the newest version and now my google account keeps connecting and disconnecting.
I'm not a complete noob, but I don't want to brick this phone so I'd rather ask and be safe.
What do I have to wipe out via recovery to get this issue to stop and should I reinstall the latest Radio again?
Thanks to who ever answers me without picking on me.
per hyperdroid's instructions:
1- Boot into MAGLDR (Power On and HOLD the Power Button till MAGLDR options are shown)
2- Boot into AD SD or AD Recovery to enter CWM Recovery Mode
If coming from another ROM, do a Nandroid Backup (just to be sure)
3- Wipe data
4- Wipe cache
5- Wipe Dalvik Cache
6- Go to mounts and storage and mount sdcard
7- Copy the ZIP you downloaded to your sdcard and unmount
8- Select install zip from sdcard
9- Find the .zip and install
10- Reboot and remove Phone from USB
(i put the rom on the sd card before all that and skip steps 6 and 7)
also, to be hardcore (i did this once when things were freaking out...) flash toWM and wipe your sd card.
but steps 3-5 are most important.
cheers.
I used the thank you button. :up:
Actually I spoke to soon. That didn't work. I had to follow these instructions.
Clean Install:
1. Task 29
2. Flash Radio(2.15 Recommended)
3. MAGLDR 1.13
4. ClockworkMod Recovery v1.3 135M System/44M Cache/Recovery v3.0.1.4
5. Install TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 .zip with CWM
6. (Optional) Install any optional CWM .zip files
I still appreciate the help though none the less.
my apologies, i misread - didn't see you wanted to reflash the radio. once you task 29, you definitely are starting from the beginning!
glad it is working.
No problem, it just kept having issues with google where it was signing in and out for some reason until they " Google " finally blocked it to stop it from bouncing. Then it would throw an error talking about having issues signing in to my Google account.
I actually had to low level format my sd card as well. I went to copy over the newest typhoon rom file to it after doing a quick format on the sd card, and it would stop the file transfer about 3/4s of the way through every time even after redownloading it etc. etc..
I did the low level format. That took about an hour or more. Moved the ROM file right over without a hitch after that. It must have had chunks of files showing still from to many quick formats on the sd card.
Then I started completely over again from step one and now my battery seems to be lasting allot longer and the issue with Google signing in has stopped.
same here; better performance with a clean slate.
ghosts in the hardware or some such thing. enjoy!

How to install Google Apps custom ?

Hi, I have this ROM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQvrEH74dgI, my question is how to install the google apps (2nd link). Thanks.
Boot into recovery (power on holding the Power and Volume Down button) and in the recovery screen, select "install zip from sd".
Select internal or external storage/sd and browse to the file, select it with the power button. It'll do its thing and after, I would clean the dalvik cache and reboot.
I assume you've got a custom recovery already installed, since you've got the custom rom already installed.
I did this
Before proceeding, please keep in mind that your handset will be wiped clean of all data so make a backup of your data. Also, the steps below require your handset to be rooted with a custom recovery installed. If your handset is not rooted, I’d recommend you not to flash this ROM since its not meant for amateurs.
Step 1: Download CM9 Alpha 4 for Epic 4G from here or here. Also download the supplementary Google Apps package from here.
Step 2: Boot into CWM Recovery, and select the ‘Wipe data/Factory Reset’ option. Then navigate to Mounts and Storage and select the ‘format /system’ option.
Step 3: After you have formatted all the partitions on your Epic 4G, select the ‘install zip from SD card’ option, and then select the CM9 Alpha 4 zip file. Once the CM9 file has been flashed, again select the ‘install zip from SD card’ option, and this time select the Google Apps zip file package.
When the flashing process is complete, simply reboot your phone and wait for it to boot into CM9. Keep in mind that the first boot might take sometime, so please be patient.
Do NOT restore your app data backup. Doing so can lead to instabilities, and other issues. Also, please don't complain about feature X or Y not working. The ROM is in Alpha for a particular reason.

define "starting window"
Like this, but instead of all the things it says, mine says just "Unlocked" in the upper left corner. I have tryed this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQvrEH74dgI (rom + gapps), and this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423 + this for the apps http://knowmydroid.com/blog/install-android-4-ice-cream-sandwich-cm9-on-samsung-epic-4g.

[Q] Cannot update to ics after rooting.

I rooted my motorola defy using SuperOneClick. It said rooted successfully and I got a superuser app in my menu too. Now, I downloaded ics 4.0.4 firmware package and latest google apps and unzipped it to my sdcard. When I turned off my phone and then switched it on again by pressing poweron+volumedown key, an android icon with an exclamation mark came denying me root access. Please tell me what to do now.
You got it all wrong .
1) You never unzip the rom or gapps
2) Android exclamation mark isn't denying root access, it's just stock recovery, which you can access be pressing both the volume keys together.(but you don't need to do that)
3)After you root your phone ,install defy 2nd init(you can search it in the forum)
,which will install clockworkmod recovery on your phone.
4)flash the rom and gapps through that recovery(press vol down when led turns blue on restart to access recovery)
you can search for detailed threads in the forum.
Okay, I did what you asked me to, installed 2nd init. Did everything. Place the zip file in sd card. Pressed volum down when led turned blue. Unzipped the ics package. Done.
Now, when I rebooted my phone, I got a blue animation saying cynogenmod 9 and that animation is now going on forever. It is not rebooting my phone.
Put out the battery, put it back, start your phone, ready!!
If not, make a factoryreset in the custom-rom-section under stable or latest and reboot.
Okay. You ARE a noob! Sorry, but this really is funny! The op seriously has NO clue what he is up to! My advice: stay away from custom roms until you know what its all about. READ the guides!
Unzipping the rom and flashing it through stock recovery?? Are you trolling??
sent from my Defy+
Hahaha.
Ok when the light goes blue press vol -
1: Go to custom recovery,
2: Wipe data/cache
3: Go to advance
And wipe delvik and battery stats,
4: install update from sd card pick your rom your flashing,
5: Install update from sdcard again pick the kernal you want to flash ie cm9 kernal
6: install update from sdcard chose your gapps you want and flash it.
Do step 1 2 and 3 again then reboot your phone.
You scroll with volume buttons and pick with power button.
If you get stuck just search.
Hope this helped.

before posting for help, you should read all the posts and get some information about flashing roms..
and, to solve your problem, you should enter to the recovery (volume down on blue led) and wipe data, wipe cache partition and go to advanced -> wipe dalvik cache.. then your phone should start without any problem

Help to install ics on my phone

i have one mytouch 4g with s-off and android 2.2.1 with root and CWM recovery.
i want to install ICS on this but not sure how to proceed as i am really confused by reading all threads . so DEVs kindly help me to install ICS step by step.
thanks
Put a ICS rom onto your sd card. Then flash it.
Broken down version:
1) download an ICS ROM zip file (I recommend SteppNasty Aospx - link in the 'resource bible')
2) put that zip file (don't extract) on the root of your sd card (i.e. not in any folders)
3) reboot your phone into recovery (either adb reboot recovery or power off > battery pull > battery insert > hold volume down button + power > select 'recovery', press power button
4) using CWM recovery, do a factory reset/wipe data, then I think under advanced select 'wipe cache' and 'wipe dalvik' (I don't have CWM anymore). If you like, you can also wipe battery stats, but I'm not sure it does anything.
5) select 'install from zip', and choose your ROM zip file
6) either flash a gapps (google apps) zip file if the ROM thread says it needs it, or reboot if it already includes google apps (most don't). Sometimes (like I think with Stepp Aospx), its actually better to reboot after flashing the rom, then go back to recovery and wipe dalvik & cache and flash gapps after getting through an initial boot. Most rom threads will have a link to the gapps they recommend for their rom. You just need one that matches the android version (i.e ICS gapps for ICS roms)
That's the usual method. Most ROM threads will have instructions on them. Seems like a lot of steps, but it usually only takes a couple of minutes.

Defy+ Boot Loop after installing 2ndInit !!!

Hi everyone.
This is my first post here.
First of all, I apologize for my bad english.
I have a Defy+ running android 2.3.4 and decided to upgrade android version using CM10 (Jelly Bean), but now I'm stucked in a boot loop...
I did the following steps:
- first rooted the phone using ROOT Genius;
- installed 2ndInit (vs 2.3) from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032212);
- put CM10 (zip) and GApps into de SD Card;
- reboot the phone pressing vol - (then vol + too) to access the 2ndInit boot menu. It show four options:
1. reboot system now;
2. apply update from sdcard;
3. wipe data/factory reset;
4. wipe cache partition
- I did the wipe data and cache (3 and 4), whose worked well;
- then I finally tried to install CM10 and got the message:
E: filed to verify whole-file signature;
E: signature verification failed;
Installation aborted.
I couldn't figure out what was doing wrong...
Searched for some help and as a try, I installed 2ndInit (vs 2.0), and turned-off the phone.
Now, I still not able to install CM10 and I'm stucked in a BOOT LOOP!
Wipe data/cache don't fix the problem and I still have the same four options after press VOL - and access the recovery menu...
Don't know what I did wrong nor what to do to solve the problem...
I searched the forum, and it seems the only way is to flash SBF. Is that the case? If so, how can i do?
That's the first time I do things like that on Android and I don't understand what to do based on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
Please, someone might help me?
Thanks in advance!!
