Updating my phone. - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys i really need your help.
Im using BOD3 Firmware version, there are a lot of new versions,i was rooted knox 0x1 (2),and then i unrooted through SuperSu.How should i update my phone, via Kies,SmartSwitch,or Odin?I wouldnt prefer odin cause it flashes stock rom and my flashcounter will be knox0x1(3) Right? Is it safe now to update via Kies?

Your KNOX is already tripped, forget about it now and use ODIN, ODIN with Stock ROM will NOT change anything KNOX related, only custom
0x0 = Not tripped
0x1 - Tripped
The counter means nothing for warranty

Id like to know this, I get good deal from network, but have always debranded handset before flashing BTU firmware.
Curious about the knox counter also in this situtation.
I'm not sure either but i think official firmwares should be safe to flash.
It's modded or unsigned kernels/bootloaders that will cause the KNOX flag to trigger.
On the S4 flashing stock fw triggers off the knox counter...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45669402&postcount=4
But he repacked the FW with an older Kernel. Maybe that was the Problem.
I hope someone would test this
Knox will increase when flashing.

Does someone even use Knox? I prefere root over Knox!
I have a question about Knox...
I don't care if I trip the Knox counter to 0x1 because when I root I know I void my warranty.
My question is once rooted and the Knox counter is at 0x1 is there a way to get the phone in a state where it will receive OTA updates.

It doesn't increase, it is 0x0 or 0x1, on or off

[Q] Will I trigger the knox to 0x1 if I just reflash the 4.3 firmware?

Will I trigger the knox to 0x1 if I just reflash the 4.3 firmware?
I think something is wrong with it, so I would like to reflash it.
Will it trigger the new knox binary counter?
Thank you

4.3 Root and Warranty Void Query

I know that 4.3 cannot be rooted as of know.
I just have a confusion here
I am on 4.2.2. I have already rooted it using CF root method. So as per the speculations my warranty is already Void as i have triggered the Hidden Count Meter,
Now .. My confusion is if i upgrade to 4.3 would my KNOX show as 1 or 0 ?

First off check your KNOX WARRANTY VOID in download mode.......If you have the KNOX bootloader there will be 2 extra lines refering to KNOX........One will refer to the kernel, the other KNOX WARRANTY VOID......If KNOX WARRANTY VOID is 0x1 then this cannot be reset so upgrading to 4.3 will not make any difference to this. Once you have triggered it to 0x1 there is (at the moment) no way back to 0x0!

By flashing a KNOX enabled bootloader,,,,,,,4.2 has them also!
XXUDMGG was the first one....
The letters changed from XXUB... to XXUD...
XXUB... - BOOTLOADER KNOX FREE
XXUD... - NEW KNOX BOOTLOADER with 0x0 / 0x1
What is you current baseband? BTW........4.3 can be rooted (but KNOX warranty will be void 0x1)

GT I9500 did not have KNOX bootloader for 4.2.2
I rooted my I9505 and then un-rooted back to stock firmware. My KNOX counter is 0x0 and I haven't done anything special when un-rooting. Just used ODIN and a stock firmware

[Q] KNOX "Counter"

Hi guys, I have a Galaxy S4 I9505, and I've been reading for a while about KNOX "Counter". I want to root my S4, but I want to know if I root or unroot my KNOX Counter will increase from 0x0 to 0x1? And it is so, I can reset that Counter to 0x0? Because I don't want to lose my warranty.
Thanks in advance!
These are really basic question and have been asked a 1000 times already. If you really did read about Knox you would have find those basic anwsers. I don't think you have read much about Knox. There is a big thread here about Knox. You find your anwsers there.

its no problem if your device has not guaranty.
Ya I think that your device gt i9505 support triangleaway so you can reset your flash counter.
Sent from my GT-I9500 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
samsung gt i9505 support triangle away, and reset counter.
But counter Knox, you can not reset.
just to clarify for you...."flash counter" is a counter that increases each time you flash a rom or whatever. the know 0x1 is a flag which doesn't continually increase, it will either be 0x0 meaning that it's a stock/official system, or it will be 0x1 meaning that the knox flag has been tripped because some part of the system has been modified (e.g. flashing custom rom or recovery, or rooting etc).
so if you want a totally official/full warranty guarantee, don't modify the device in anyway. if you've gone past your warranty date or just don't care about it then you can root/install custom roms kernels and recoveries, but this will likely trip the knox flag if you have the kitkat bootloader.

[Q] TowelRoot for already rooted phone?

Hy.
The towelroot work with the NE8 ROM?
If I already use a CF-AutoRoot, what it means that my KNOX is 0x1, this app can change the counter back to 0x0?

1. It should work in lot of devices (not depending of the stock rom installed).
2. Towelroot was created for have rooted device without void the warranty (KNOX: 0x1). It's stupid use Towelroot if you have KNOX actived in bootloader. You can use CF-AutoRoot without worries.
3. Towelroot don't change the counter back to 0x0.
once knox is 0x1, no towelroot nor anything can bring it back to 0x0 until now
