[Q] Flashing Stock FW, KNOX? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi
my note 3 has a t-mobile branding ...
What happens if I flash a stock Rom? for example an open Germany.
Just asking because of Knox Counter :/

Id like to know this, I get good deal from network, but have always debranded handset before flashing BTU firmware.
Curious about the knox counter also in this situtation.

I'm not sure either but i think official firmwares should be safe to flash.
It's modded or unsigned kernels/bootloaders that will cause the KNOX flag to trigger.

On the S4 flashing stock fw triggers off the knox counter...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45669402&postcount=4

But he repacked the FW with an older Kernel. Maybe that was the Problem.
I hope someone would test this

Knox will increase when flashing.

Does someone even use Knox? I prefere root over Knox!

I have a question about Knox...
I don't care if I trip the Knox counter to 0x1 because when I root I know I void my warranty.
My question is once rooted and the Knox counter is at 0x1 is there a way to get the phone in a state where it will receive OTA updates.

It doesn't increase, it is 0x0 or 0x1, on or off

Is my Note 3 eligible for replacement under warranty with the following status :

Hello again,
I'm not sure if I can replace my Note 3 under warranty FOC with the status screen at recovery showing the following messages :
Current Binary : Samsung Official
System Status : Custom
Knox Kernel Lock : 0x0
Knox Warranty Void : 0x0
I'm just worried about the System Status : Custom message. Is that a problem?
I unrooted using the method explained in this thread and this link directly takes to my post in that thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46511887#post46511887
Do I have to do anything else for replacement under warranty?
Thank you for any information.
Remove SD card and reboot. Then check status again.
Or you can just Flash stock room through Odin and it will all be official again.

Thank you. I flashed the official latest rom and everything is official again.
But why do I read so many times that flashing custom roms will void warranty, if this can be reverted by flashing official roms?
Is it that the knox will be tripped to 0x1? I flashed using the method I mentioned above but my knox stayed at 0x0...

Most custom roms require a custom recovery to be installed, this will trip Knox. Also most custom roms have altered kernels, this too will trip Knox.
You have simply gained root without replacing the recovery or the kernel.

There's a bit of murky waters regarding the warranty if knox is tripped. But recently Samsung have said knox tripping does not affect warranty. But to be on the safe side some people decide to not trip knox. There are ways to root and flash custom roms without trooping knox but not if you are on one of the latter bootloaders.
Once knox is tripped there is no going back as it stands. ..... But if you like to customize your phone and make it look and feel much nicer .... Who gives a foookk .....I for one don't?
Also knox can be tripped flashing stock firmware using odin.... If you are unlucky. ..

Thank you all for the Knox explanations. That cleared up some doubts of mine.

[SOLVED] Note 3 MJ5 Kingo Root Knox 0x0 Confirmation

Sorry for a repeat post, but I dont want to trip knox on my Note 3. I heard you can use the kingo app and not void your warranty (knox 0x0). Here are my specs:
AT&T Note 3 (SM-N900A) Locked BootLoader
Sim Unlocked
Firmware/Build: MJ5
So if I use kingo app and root will Knox be tripped?
Thanks for any help and sorry if its a repeat just want a 100% confirmation, before I do anything I may regret

The only time KNOX will be tripped is if you tamper with the kernel. Rooting does not affect the kernel and therefore does not trip KNOX.

well good news, root worked and knox is not tripped, but upon opening SuperSU it asked if I wanted to disable KNOX, I dont know the method it gets rid of knox, but will this also trip KNOX?
Thank You
Thank you to the two users who helped me with this, I simply just installed Xposed Framework and Wanam Exposed and blocked Knox notifications and set system status to "Official", now I can be FREE!
i used the kango no it says custom and there is a un locked lock ? knox triped ????
No Knox isn't tripped . Install xposed framework and the module xanam exposed and I think under one of the settings you can set to official instead of custom and it gets rid of the unlocked lock on boot. Just do a Google search if you need help installing . To see if you tripped Knox go into download mode by powering off and holding all three buttons at the same time, power, home and volume down and then a screen will appear and press volume up and you will see a list of things look for warranty bit, 0x0 is a valid warranty and 0x1 is a voided warranty. Hope it helps

May I downgrade only the frimware from MJ7 to MJ5 through odin (and keeping my knox 0x0) then root using kingo or other way who not trip the knox then using mobile odin pro to go back on MJ7 and keep root and 0x0 ?
From what I have read flashing or downgrading bootloader may be impossible or resulted in Knox tripping. I would recommend either waiting for another forum member or opening your own thread (if one doesn't already exist).

has anyone tried towelroot on i9500 ?

just saw geohots rooting solution called towelroot... any of you guys out there tried it on a s4 i9500 ? how bout knox flag ?
currently running android 4.4.2.. let me know and thanks !
the Knox warranty void counter is that if you'll root your device, your Knox app will not work on your device.there is no possible way to reset the Knox counter as for now.You never get OTA updates, because your phone will turn Official status to Custom.triangle away will reset the flash counter, but it will not reset the Knox warranty void counter.

well I think you havent heard from geohots new rooting method, he claims to be able to root s5 and note 3 with the single installation of his application and pressing one single button. he even said when he tried it on his phone, knox counter was never tripped to 0x1. I was already aware of how knox worked and that there wasnt any rooting method that wont trip the knox flag. but as soon as I saw it on the forums, I went straight to ask if someone tested it on a i9500. so, anyone ?

Rooting SGS4

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am really confused as always I used to find the thread for rooting my SGS4 but with the new firmware upgrade (Russia region), I can not find how to root it, and I am not upgrading it as it is important for me. Specification I am attaching (from similar updraded phone already) .
it should be PDA: I9500XXUFNF4CSC: I9500SERFNE3 MODEM: I9500XXUFNA6 (I can only find with PDA I9500XXUFNB4 in this site).
I would certainly appreciate your guidance in this matter, as only after being sure I had the needed .tar and odin, as I always root it with ODIN being the simplest and safest way, I always upgrade via KIES.
I was directed to post here.
Thank You in advance
Just use the normal rooting.
cf auto root or towelroot.
Firmware doesn't matter.
I rooted mine with towelroot

Use towelroot if you don't want to lose your warranty (because you will void konx )

Actually I have been reading about this Knox trigger, what does it mean? Isn't there a way to "untrigger" it afterwards.
Thank you again and again very kind of you to reply

knox flag 0x1 is a e-fuse which burns out after the software is mofidied... there is no way known of setting it back to 0x0.
Here in Poland, there was a discussion about knox flag 0x1 and warrinty with Samsung officials, as the flag is also triggered when trying to downgrade your original firmware, example from 4.4.1 to 4.3.... and on tweeter Samsung Poland stated that the warranty is not lost when the flag is 0x1.. but is better to have it untouched...
Thank you for the explanatiom as such it means it does not harm the phone or prevent future upgrades? If so I prefer to root as I had done before. I have no intention of downgrading but surely would like to continue upgrading. I always use my rooted phone with Knox frozen

Actually I had rooted it before with ODIn already when it had 4.4.2 again, so it is already triggered? Is there a way to check it? Also if it does not prevent future updates I prefer to continue with ODIN

One more question and really thank u for u r time.
Will it effect Knox tripping for the future updates? Besides warranty voiding does it have any other repercussions?

It will only affect your ability to downgrade......you won't be able to with official firmware. Upgrading is still possible and the Knox flag being triggered will not affect you upgrading but will never re-set the trigger.
Thank you so much

Updating my phone.

Hello guys i really need your help.
Im using BOD3 Firmware version, there are a lot of new versions,i was rooted knox 0x1 (2),and then i unrooted through SuperSu.How should i update my phone, via Kies,SmartSwitch,or Odin?I wouldnt prefer odin cause it flashes stock rom and my flashcounter will be knox0x1(3) Right? Is it safe now to update via Kies?
Your KNOX is already tripped, forget about it now and use ODIN, ODIN with Stock ROM will NOT change anything KNOX related, only custom
0x0 = Not tripped
0x1 - Tripped
The counter means nothing for warranty
