So I've had the G1 since it came out and have been having no problems with it until this week. When my girlfriend and I txt or call eachother it won't work. I have no problems contacting other people. She also has the G1 and she has the same problem too.
First when I txt and try to send the red pending message thing stays on the txt for a long time and then it gives me an error. I have full signal and have 3g. She has the same problem too.
When I try to call her it goes straight to her voicemail and vise versa.
We also tried using IM but the same problem happens and our conversations always get dropped. This has been really pissing us off because we have been using T-mobile together for 4 years now. WTF!?
Are others of you having the same problem when conversating with other G1 owners?
Thanks
Its a sign telling you that you should break up with your GF.
First thing first have you tried restarting your phone by taking the battery out.(you would be suprised how many people don't do this and 80% of the time it fixes the issue.)
Second if you have a long thread of text with her(over 150) try deleting that.
Third if that doesn't work then do a hard reset on each others phones. You won't loose your contacts, the will show up again once you log back in. Try texting and calling each other on fresh phones. If it works start re installing your apps one at a time and texting each other between each one. It could be an app as well blocking you guys.
Still having issues looks like a call to T-mobile tech support is in your future and possibly a warranty exchange.
dont why is that, but deleting some sms messages would help a lot. try those issues from above poster. good luck & dont give up w/your gf
If it's happening on both phones, it sounds like it might be a network issue? Contact T-Mo.
Thanks for your help guys, I'm not a newbie with phones so I did all what's mentioned above.
Took out battery, reseted both phones, hard reseted both phones, installed apps one at a time and we still have that problem. We both delete the threads before they reach 100 so that can't be it.
The problem usually happens at night, I'm going to call T-mobile tomorrow and see if we can get an answer.
Thanks again

Are you two on separate accounts with T-Mo? If on same account, do you both have a separate dataplan for each G1? I'm just grabbing at straws here, but the way it only malfunctions when you two contact each other seems to suggest it's got something to do with your G1 plan(s)/service(s).

Yes we have a family plan with the unlimited text and data.
I just checked out my account on My T-mobile and they didn't recognize my phone. I tried to change my myfaves but that didn't work so the site is down. It could be that T-mobile is having some sort of issue.

As I understand it, each G1 must have its own dataplan, even if you are sharing the same voice plan (i.e. family plan). Perhaps the sales rep who set up your G1s didn't know this and only added one dataplan? When you communicate between your two G1s it would appear to T-Mo's network as the same data customer trying to call/sms itself. Hence the screwiness?
Just a theory.

I understand where you're coming from but we have the same voice plan with two separate data/text services.
When we try to call it takes several attempts for it to go through but most of the time our calls are dropped within a minute. Text works most of the time.

Ahh. Still, it definitely seems to be a T-Mobile issue. I would suggest bringing both phones into a T-Mo store and having them take a look at that and maybe your account as well. If any of the sales reps there has a G1, try calling it.

One problem i have seen a couple of times, when i have 3g turned on, I cant call out send or receive text messages, and only seems to happen in certain areas of my town. If i disable 3g everything works fine. My roomate has the same issue with his G1 in the same areas of town as well.
Update:
Both of our phones seem to be working fine today. I still don't know what it was though. If it happens again then I'm definitely going to a T-mobile store.
Thanks guys

offhand, have you reported that to t-mobile? thats the only way things will ever get fixed, if you havn't. Call drop/similar issues are taken seriously by tmobile and they will send a tech to check it out (though you may be unaware). If the tech can recreate your trouble, it will be fixed.
Update:
Both of our phones are fixed! I called T-mobile and they said that problem has happened before, our sim cards needed to be changed so we can be able to use the 3g.
We both went to the T-mobile store today and got them replaced with no problem and now everything is perfect.
One of the many reasons I love T-mobile and my G1!

Ahh yeah if you are using a legacy SIM that would definitely kill your 3G joy. Need a USIM for 3G I'm glad T-Mo was able to fix it for ya.
Edit: By the way you might want to revise the title of this thread with "Fixed" so folks don't unintentionally bump it a few months later.

You do not need a USIM for tmobile. The sim he had may have been too old, but i have not changed my sim for at least 2-3 years and i can swap my sim into any phone i choose. ATT requires a USIM i believe, but tmobile service will work with either... can anyone actually chime in that has an offical t-mo USIM?

Oh! Didn't know that. I had T-Mo years ago, but have been with AT&T for the past two years due to a promotional pricing.
Gave up the iPhone 4 and AT&T, and oh boy…
In the first few weeks of owning a shiny new Nexus S on T-Mobile MMS images received were blurry. That magically was fixed for myself and quite a few others.
Now fast forward, and one nagging problem continues. Receiving and sending MMS is completely sporadic, and mostly unreliable.
My wife will send something, and no sign of it ever arriving (she's still on AT&T with an iPhone 4). Same thing happens when it's a friend on AT&T, and Verizon most recently. Then, out of nowhere, it will work. I'll send an MMS, it never arrives. Try later, boom, it might just work.
At home there's decent EDGE service, and work HSPA. Vastly different conditions, but same story. Sometimes things are sent and received successfully, other times not.
Never an issue with text messages.
APN settings remain unchanged out of the box, and consistent with other folks.
Any thoughts or ideas beyond calling T-Mobile with "it doesn't work"? Last time I called them (to report the blurry MMS picture issue) it was a lost cause. Unsupported device, etc.

Good idea. Thanks.
This sounds strangely reminiscent of an issue I get here...
I'm on VodafoneUK and MMS works just fine - however if I MMS the missus on O2 the message may or may not get there, or there might be an 18 hr lag... It's not the most reliable thing in the world!
This isn't a Nexus thing, it's a network thing...
I suspect that if you kept all of your MMS activity to people also on TMo you wouldn't have a problem - it's when the different networks talk to each other things go screwy...
I still remember the "good" old days when you couldn't even send text messages between the different networks in the UK!
For what it's worth, I had intermittent problems both sending and receiving MMS messages. Sometimes it would work, and other times it wouldn't. I've switched to using Handcent instead of the stock messaging app, and MMS has been working 100% perfectly since doing so. I'm not sure why this is the case, but it is. At least for me.
Are you experiencing the issue when you send messages to someone else on T-Mobile or is it just happening with your wife on ATT?
It is not unheard of for MMS messages to have problems between carriers. I personally have seen more issues with ATT than any other carrier (I have worked with ATT, Verizon, Sprint, and currently work for T-Mobile).
If you are both using smartphones (iPhone and Nexus S)you will get better quality pictures if you send them as email and not MMS since that avoids the picture resolution being reduced to the file size for MMS. I believe that the current T-Mobile setting is 1000 Kb for MMS messages.
Well now this is odd. Was just sent a MMS from someone on AT&T and nothing showed up in the messaging app, yet the Missed Reminder app says I have an unread MMS!
I have cleared all data from messaging before for the sake of it.
This is driving me mental!
Not carrier but Android? Sending and receiving MMS works fine with T-Mobile users.
Handcent exibits the same behavior.
So I can switch from my iP5 to the N4 and get almost everything to work, Data included except for the Text Messages. The problem is I use iMesssage on my iP5 and for some reason when I'm on my N4 anyone not using iMessage I get their texts fine, but anyone using iMessage I don't.
I've turned off iMessage on my iPhone but it doesn't seem to do anything.
Anyone having issues with a fix??
Thanks

This is the problem with proprietary software. Is there a way to have them send you sms only and NOT iMessages?
I found this. Seemed interesting.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ge...ge-issues-after-switching-iphone-android.html
I had this same problem going from a 4S to an android, the problem is their phones still think you are using iMessage so they only send them through that service. I was never able to find a fix but it did fix itself after a couple days. Also if your friends turn off iMessage then they would be able to text you just fine.
I switched to using Google voice for text -- free texts (except no txtig pics) You can also use your Gvoice # for phone calls. Or you can port your current # to Gvoice.
The fix usually is to turn off iMessage on the iPhone before your switch devices so it unregisters you from their server. Your friends may also benefit from deleting their conversation with you and starting a new one on their devices.
Is there a way to wifi text from a rooted Verizon phone and keep your normal phone number?
there was another member asking this question in another thread that was long and i cant remember where it was located but the short answer is no. there are options like Google Voice and other messaging apps that will easily work with Wifi only reception but not the phone app. i know Tmob offers this function but Verizon does not yet.

Thats kind of what i thought. The reception on the note 3 is no where near as good as my droid razr. My business is in a fairly weak cell area and i normally can't get a text to send from my normal indoor spot with my note. People can be sitting right next me with their other brand phones and send and receive text any time they want.

i have had the complete line of DROID phones from Motorola since the first DROID for Verizon and stopping with the Ultra and agree they have and have always had the best radio's for reception but i have not found any issues with my N3 that didnt match my Moto phones.
I also find GV texting to be great and allows me to receive and respond from my phone, tablet, and laptop which leaves more options than phone reception.
good luck
I wish!!!!! I really wish! I had a problem with my Verizon account one time where I lost all 3G access - and it wasn't my phone's fault. But funny enough, I could receive SMS but I couldn't receive MMS - regardless of connection to WiFi or not. After a week of talking to Verizon tiered support, I finally got to the highest support (some guy in the USA) who I was able to talk to. MMS goes through 3g and there's no changing how that works no matter what you do. I had always thought MMS went through WiFi.
Anyway, turns out someone had accidentally turned off 3g access on my account (iPhone 4s at the time). Soon as this guy figured it out, he flipped a switch and I started getting 3g again, lol.
Either way, I'm a big fan of iMessage, WhatsApp (was a big fan), Hangouts, and Telegram means of communication. They're 5x faster, usually more reliable, and cost $0 to use - and yes, they work on WiFi. Hard to get everyone I know to use one means though... so I end up doing a fair bit of texting even today.
I think the Verizon messaging app actually works on Wifi. I can be in a dead zone and still receive sms and mms with wifi connected.

I use the GV Phone app when traveling outside of the US. You need a Google Voice number if you want to call real phones and not just app-to-app (like Groove IP or many other chat-based apps). Talkatone is another app which integrates with Google Voice, but I haven't had any luck with it.
Voice calling with GV Phone works pretty well if you keep one thing in mind...WiFi quality matters. Low WiFi signal or a congested network will increase latency and jitter to the point that calls will drop/fragment/stutter. Conversely, with a good quality WiFi signal you can talk for free from anywhere!
I cant post a link...check Google Play for GV Phone.
I use the Google voice app for texting and calls. I gave my Google voice number to everyone and as far as they know, it is my only number now.

I did this too, and still do for the most part --- just really sucks that I can't get MMS with Google Voice. But I'm seeing rumors of Google Voice saying something about finally offering MMS at the start of next year.

Alright so for the past few weeks, I've been having issues sending SMS i'd send the message but the person wouldn't get the message till 20-30 minutes later. I called
T-Mobile multiple times about this issue and they reset some settings on their side but it would be every night starting at 10:30PM est til 2AM est. Whenever Tmo reset settings on their side SMS works. So a few days ago, I went to Tmo to get a new sim card and so did my girlfriend she got a new sim card who she has the
GS7 edge (T-Mobile) but any ways the problem has gotten worse and now im not sure what to-do. Weather a factory reset would fix the issue or changing the messaging app i've been using Google Messenger what else can I possibly do?
Try swapping SIM's with your girlfriend (Not sure what Sim the GS7E uses). See if the problem follows the SIM (IE, Your number/account) or the device. If your phone sends texts no problem with her SIM, Then it's not your phones problem. It's something to do with the provisioning on their (T-Mobiles) side. If it follows the phone. Compare the APN settings to your Girlfriends phone. They should match. If that all fails, You may want to try a factory reset.
I assume there is a way you could somehow see the message exiting the phone in a debug log somewhere. I'm not sure how one could do that. But I assume the phone will queue the message if it doesn't transmit. And you should be able to see that somewhere besides in the messaging app. I would also assume somewhere you can see why it's rejected by the local tower. I would imagine there is some kind of rejection message carried in signaling, But these are just my assumptions. I work in the carrier trunking business, Not the cell business. Haha.

it uses the nano sim that's actually not bad idea i'm going to try that, but before I did a factory reset on my N6P. I assume there could be a way to find out how to debug log it or anything to figure out what's going on, but i don't get since we got new sim cards why would it keep on doing it. Also that's why came here to see if anyone has been having the same issues with their N6P's on Tmo.

Well, My buddies got a N6P on T-Mobile here in Central Florida and has no issues.
I suggest swapping them SIM's because it tests the provisioning. The SIM's themselves are fine. Because they work at all. The bigger thing to test here is that your account/line is correct. And by swapping SIM's you're trying a known-good account. So it's less about the SIM being functional. And more about T-Mobile not having some kind of misconfiguration on your account. So let us know how it goes.
As for how to look into it further, Hopefully someone else can chime in. As that's outside my depth.

I live in South FL, Stock 6.0.1 MM using stock Messenger app. I went to a T-Mobile store and they said it was because my phone is a "Unlocked Phone" and they also blame it on the network is "congested" but my girlfriend she has the GS7 Edge and it only happens when i text her and it starts at 10:30PM messages get delayed but with the double texts they have always been like this. even when I had my N6 from T-Mobile. On my 6p, no matter what settings or apps used, I had mms and sms issues whenever I had wifi calling turned on. My issues were late and undelivered messages. Had to turn off wifi calling.

I don't have wifi calling on, and now I have issues with calls the phone call breaks up. And I will have to hangup and try and call her back but it goes straight to voicemail til I wait 5 minutes then call again and she said it was the same for her, when she tried to call me back. It would go straight to voicemail after the call breaks up and there is all this feedback.
