i rooted my phone and currently running cm 12. now my chaarging port isnt working. i have to be switching batteries with my girlfriend everytime mines die.
im still under the given warranty. so i can return my phone and get a new one. problem is...i cant connect my phone back to a computer to unroot it and put the stock firmware on it cause the port isnt working and my computer isnt regonizing my pone at all.
is there a way to unroot and flash stock firmware without a pc?
will samsung send it back to me cuz i rooted it?
It happened to me before on SG S4. They replace it even if it was rooted, and using custom rom. The sales guy said it's a hardware issue and not a software.

You mean, bought from one carrier and using the phone with a different carrier? Typically the carrier you purchased the phone with takes care of warranties. But if you've stopped using that carrier and moved to a different one then warranty is now void.

I think it does matter. My carrier is TMOBILE and I went to TMOBILE store. They just replace it then and there
Sent from my SM-N910T3 using Tapatalk
Doesn't matter which carrier. But there is a difference between warranty and insurance. Insurance it doesnt matter. They are third party and won't even look at the phone. Don't even say anything. You could even just smash it and get a new one.
But if it is manufacturer warranty you might run into an issue if you have to send it to samsung. If you are bringing it back to where you purchased it, just bring it back. They aren't going to go through all of that. These people are just reps and all that. They should just switch it out.
I just got the replacement today. I'm gonna send the broken phone to them 2maro. U thonk they will charge me a fee if it's rooted? What u think will happen?

I don't think it should matter. I worked at T-Mo for several years and the reps mainly don't know anything about root. As long as you "play dumb", meaning that you deny any type of knowledge, and just say that you got "an update and it restarted and got stuck like that" you should be ok. If they charge you, it will be for $175 but you can fight it off. I've taken away several fees to some customers. Even when they were at fault.

It's not t-mobile who deals with it. It's a third party insurance agency who deals with it. So no you will be one hundred percent fine. I have sent back phones with CM on it. Stock rooted with Knox tripped and so on. Never had an issue. It's going to go in a pile, it will have stock firmware flashed on it to be sold as certified used, or taken for parts. You will most likely not hear anything about it.
OK thanks everyone. I feel better now. Lol. I'm not worried anymore. I just didn't wanna get charged

My phone was rooted and running a lag fix and was working fine untill i saw a cool theme that i wanted. I tried to flash it but it bricked my phone enstead. I was able to get it back buy following some instructions using odin. I got it back but without avitar, sims, and media hub. Now it also restarts over and over when i have my wifi on. I turn wifi off and it stays on. Is there a fix for what is going on? and is there any way i can get back avitar and the media hub. If not im going to take the phone back. Its not rooted anymore so it should not be a problem. What kinda of warrenty does to phone have i bought it the day it came out?

Can I just go to tmo store and get a replacement or is it something I need to call on

If you're past the two week grace period you can go into a store, but they will just order one for you there. Even with insurance they won't hot swap you at the store.
Use Odin again and QUIT MESSING WITH YOUR PHONE. Why are you all encouraging the op to get a replacement?

You would be committing fraud which is a crime. Anyone who advises you how to do it would also be committing a crime.
How about you ask how to fix the problem and I'm sure people well versed in Odin will walk you through the fix.
Thanks for helping to drive up the cost of the phones, much appreciated. You VOIDED the warranty by rooting it, deal with it, not expect the rest of us to subsidize your phones.
do people not read disclamers? the devs clearly tell you that your phonw might blow up, so take responsibility for what you do to your crappy phones and man up.

Will t-mo replace defect unit if you bought it from ebay?
people REALAX. I went to tmobile and told them what i did and they said the root that i had done DID NOT MESS WITH THE WARRINTY. And that i should have brought the phone in before doin anything to it. I have INSURANCE and I will get a new phone tomarrow. Now the guy that helped my had the same root on his vibrant and that he would not have done it if it did mess with the warrinty. So I come on here for some help and you guys toss me under a bus. I never said i was going to LIE TO TMOBLE i would not do that. I still had to pay 130 bucks any way.
Yea, so suck it you war mongers. LOL
Sent from my Vibrant using the XDA app.
Your friendly neighborhood tmobile hacker boy may have taken it back but the policy has always been very clear that rooting your phone will void your warranty. Regardless of whether they took it back or not, the fact remains, you broke it and you want someone else to eat some of the responsibility for your actions.
I told them that i was the one that messed it up so i did not lie to them. I filed a claim with the insurance and they said as long as the type of root that i did was a small one that even though i messed it up there concearn is the warrinty of the phone. its not like all of you are these saints. I did nothing wrong. The insurance could have declined the claim but they did not they just said that i problably should not do it again and that if it did happen again for the same reasone that they would reject the claim. So i did not have any friends at tmo or the insurance. So im all done with this now. Beside all of you have rooted any way so let my say that i hope it does not happen to you.
okay so i ordered a replacement tdy for $35 (i dont have insurance) from my local sprint store and it should arrive tomorrow.. however my phone is rooted with custom rom and kernel.. and i really dont feeling it unrooting it.. the sprint rep didnt ask any questions or anything.. i just showed him that i have a problem with my back button and he just ordered a replacement.. so i have to take my epic back tomorrow and exchange it for the new one.. I just want to make sure if there are gonna be any problems due to the epic being rooted? I'm thinking it should be okay since I already ordered the new one..
what do u guys think?
You should be fine unless they notice that its rooted when you bring it in for the swap, in which case they may decline the exchange. Once the swap is done you're home free.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
You'll be fine.
thx alot guys.. does anyone know if the replacement phones are brand new or refurbished?
Should honestly be (as previously stated) not a problem. Having worked in the telecommunications industry myself, I know at this point I know a large majority of store personnel only have knowledge of rooting and such only if they partake themselves (or have overzealous management that prides themselves on training the crap out of every subject). Only times you need to worry if it involves departments that will dissect your phone (ie. Warranty, tier 2/3 tech, etc) both hardware and software-wise. Simple store exchanges shouldn't be a problem at all though. My 2 cents.

Actually, that's NOT the case. The official policy is that if they find "other" damage, they can charge your account, but the reality is, this simply does NOT happen, and since you're already paying the $35, you're fine.

Are you unable to unbrick it?
Otherwise, I would just tell them I lost it. Keep your old phone for development purposes.

Sprint and Asurion are two different companies. If your phone is bricked, you call Asurion, not sprint. Sprint only deals with warranty exchanges, not anything you did to the phone.

First off, telling Asurion the phone was lost/stolen when it isn't is insurance fraud, and is illegal. Second, that's what insurance is for, no matter what you do to your phone, you pay the deductible and get a replacement. So just tell them it is bricked, pay your deductible, and get another one. They don't care if it's rooted or not.
My phone is hard bricked. When I try to turn it on there is absolutely no response. The screen does not light up, the phone does not vibrate. Absolutely nothing. I'm pretty positive there is nothing I can do about this. I called sprint and they said take it to the store and if their techs can not do anything about it then they will send me a new phone. Is there anyway the techs could tell my phone has had roms on it or been rooted and therefore not send me a new phone? Also does anyone have any ideas on any solutions? I've tried odin and recovery, nothing is happening at all even when plugged in to USB or wall charger.
From other users experiences on various forums, it is generally seen that if the phone wont turn on then they can't tell if its been superusered, rooted, or had the rom blown to bits, just make sure to remove your sd card first to eliminate most possibilities of them finding out.

A lot of things actually.. First thing was I tried to boot in recovery from the rom and nothing happened so I pulled the battery out and put it back in and let the phone charge all night but it never charged overnight and when I woke up it was so hot I could barely hold it. So I tried to go to download mode and at the time I could so I downloaded the stock files and went to flash it to stock in Odin figuring it was the rom. The phone shut off during the middle of flashing the system.img and after that I somehow managed to get it to recovery and I was wiping the cache to flash the stock rom zip file and then it just shut off and every pixel on the screen slowly started turning like green and then flashed really bright and that's when it officially died.

Something similar happened to me and it ended up being a dead battery because the phone wouldn't charge it. I pulled my battery, charged it on a universal charger and was able to get it into Download mode. That was just my experience though. I hope you get it figured out.

My friend has an s4 as well and I tried his battery with no luck. Thanks though
Here is what you need to check for, plug it into the pc, go to device manager, under ports, the device should show up, what does it show?
If it says anything like QLOAD or similar (sorry been awhile) you are hard bricked, and a jtag service would be the only way, now if you exchange the device with sprint, it will be ok until some tech reviews it and plugs in his equipment, he may see the same, tmo tried get me to pay way back in my..mytouch days, had another issue with att early on, they didn't ever say anything, it was a hardware issue on that one.
bottom line, look in device manager first.
The Ax says good luck.

It's not that simple though. I'm sure a Sprint allocates a specific amount of funds every year for equipment replacement. I'm sure those getting replacements for bricking their phones makes up a very small percentage of the replacements they send out every year.

And what do you think would happen if a large portion of Sprints customers started bricking their phone's? Completely locked bootloaders, prices of everything including monthly plans, insurance and phones going up? I know when I had the S3 I saw several bricks a week from people messing with things that they shouldn't and by not following instructions. So in the end whether you realize it or not you and I pay for it. And going into Sprint and acting innocent like you have no idea what happened to your phone is fraud. Plain and simple.

I bought an AT&T S4 32gb from ebay brand new a week ago. It was working well & it was never rooted or custom rom installed.
I slept & woke up & this phone wasnt responding to anything i do. No boot or power at all, checked battery it looks fine & voltage output is 4.21.
I didnt open the phone, though it never got water/liquid damage. Another thing strange is its not even heating up from any side.
Wrote this thread in hope, if anyone has had in this situation & made it work again.

I don't think it is unfair. You paid for a product that obviously was defective as it died randomly. If I buy a item from a store I expect to work, not die randomly to suck it up. Even though its a used item, you shouldn't deal with issues that perhaps the previous owner did not tell you.

It should still be covered and you can print your Paypal receipt as proof that it was brand new if the title of the auction says brand new. I think it should be covered. You will need to register it with Samsung for warranty service. Toucan do that on their website. You probably won't even have to mention where you bought it.

He is India and bought a device only covered for warranty within U.S.A terrority by law. They wouldn't be forced to service an out of country warranty. Same deal happened to my friend in europe with a U.S.A tmobile s4. He ended up shipping it to me so I could ship to them.
Then again its soley by Samsungs choice. He could try contacting their international department to see if they'll honor it for him.

Yes Samsung may help, international samy will not bother to help & if its USA samy i must have to call from a valid US no. right?
Hello Febby, u gave me a good suggestion, ur frnd sent it to u, but can i as im limited by the person i know in USA.
Frankly, i just wanna try something myself, to make it work & btw electricity is good, but its a little costly where i stay & power cuts are limited.
My S4 screen cracked, they never asked for a proof of purchase (but then again, they took my $200 to fix it). Maybe look into something like VIAddress, they provide a US address for you to tell companies to ship to and they'll forward it to a big number of countries for some fee.

OK viaddress are they reliable, how much time do they take. They didnt ask cuz u paid for it, mine is diff then urs, as its totally dead... no response at all. They might ask
I've never used VIAddress, but I've sold several thing on eBay to people who used almost identical addresses that went to this freight complex in an pharma/industrial part of our country, New Jersey. One person was Chinese and the other Russian. So I'm guessing they used this or another forwarding service... it must be good if they used it.
True, Samsung might ask you, but I think the warranty will stand by serial number and not owner. I've sold a Galaxy S3 to someone and AT&T at least, assured us that there would be no problems with the other guy making a claim.
