Issues Connecting to Mac - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I use the included USB to type C cable to connect to! MacBook Air, it shows charging, but won't "connect. " I have debugging checked in developer options. Anything else I may be missing?

USB 3g dongle help required

Hello, I just got root access along with the PPP widget / stickmount. I have the orange dongle which is a huawei E173, when I plug it in using my otg cable the PPP widget just displays no drivers found. Also, I hear you have to put in APN info, which I have no idea where to find. Can anyone help with this or is it not possible at all with this dongle?
Thanks

cant transfer pictures to computer?

I tried to connect my nexus 4 to my PC , but it would not recognize it under my computer like it should so I could drag and drop. I tried mounting it as MTP and PTP and neither would be recognised.
I ended up transferring my pictures using adb, but I don't know why it didn't work the standard way.
Anyone have any ideas?
Have you tried using drop box? It's really simple and automatic. Just set it to upload only on Wi-Fi

I've used it before but I want to know why the nexus 4 was not recognised by my computer
Is Android debugging on?
Is it having trouble with installing the MTP driver ? Try turning off USB debugging, I couldn't get MTP to work until I did that.

Maybe you've got the same problem that we have here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005437
Maybe you try:
A different USB port
A different USB cable
Uninstall existing drivers + installing the drivers again
A different computer
And if all that didn't help you can join us in the above mentioned thread. We don't have a solution yet but maybe we can draw some attention to the issue.
All the driver seem to be fine and the nexus 4 is recognised via adb. It used to work before so I don't what's wrong.
Edit: yes USB debugging was on
Ok, but that's actually good! What happens if you plug it into a different usb port?

It says your device could be faster with USB 2.0 and then it is not recognised.
Now that's really odd. Have you tried a different USB cable?

I'm using the stock lg cable. I'll try with my nexus 7 cable.
Edit with my nexus 7 cable it says connected by the windows 7 notification, but when I check in computer it does not show anything
But you have seen your N4 in the explorer before, right? I have seen my N4 on my GFs windows machine as Nexus 4, not as a storage device.

It shows up under devices and printers, but not under my computer
Edit:maybe it has to do with android 4.2 because I just plugged in a flash drive and it showed up under my computer
And what happens if you double-click it there? Can you get your pix then?
Edit: I didn't find my N4 as a storage device, so you can't find it as a letter in your explorer but a real device.

If I double click it it takes me to nexus 4 properties. My nexus 7 does not show up in my computer either that's what bled me to think it has to do with 4.2
Edit:nevrmind its not 4.2 because I just connected a lg motion which is running 4.0 and it does not show up either
Maybe someone with a win7 machine can chip in here, since I think it is a windows problem. I am on a linux laptop, so I can't really help you there. But good luck anyway!

Thanks for your help
By George, I fixed it I went into device manager I right clicked on SAMSUNG android phone then nexus 4 under that section, then I clicked update driver. Then I clicked on browse my computer for driver software after I clicked on let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer and I select mtp. The all of a sudden auto play came up with my device connected as a camera (ptp)
Now all my phones show up under my computer
MTP uses a completely different driver from ADB. So you can have one working but not the other.

Nexus 4 as USB drive rather den MTP

Hi,
Is there a way to make nexus 4 as a usb drive rather den a MTP in windows? cos i think that the transfer is way slower via MTP.
Thanks..
Well no solution yet, but I've found something from another LG device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1800935
Has anyone tried this command?
Would be great if this will work with our device though :fingers-crossed:
Maybe that will work!!!! But not sure will it cause other problems.....

Ok i just tried the command. All it's it does is unchecks MTP. If you go into storage USB connection you'll see MTP is not ticked..
I'm using paranoid Rom which is based on stock Rom and i have usb mass storage when connecting to computer. I had to uncheck usb debugging.

Nice!! Did you execute the command or is it a feature from paranoid?

When usb debugging is off and i plug the usb cable to my laptop, the pop up with options to open folder appears on the laptop like if i was using a usb sick. I don't have to do anything from the phone.

Well, I tried the command I posted above. I am running CM10.1
I wasn't able to get any kind of usb communication at all after setting the prop.
Hopefully there's a solution coming soon. MTP is quite nice, but it sucks copying media files from different folders. You have to confirm every dialog

Mac connection Android Filetransfer

For some reason I can't connect to my Mac using the filetransfer app. This is a new development, as I have connected many times in the past. I can connect using ADB and Fastboot through the USB connection, the convenience of the utility is really nice. Any one have any thoughts?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
If anyone else has trouble the problem might have been caused by a bad cable. A bad cable was causing charging issues for me, so I've got a new cable and will check it soon to see if that fixes the file transfer issue.
Cable made all the difference.

[Q] Nexus 4 charging but doesnt connect as mtp adb or fastboot

Hello sir,
I have a nexus 4 stock unlocked and android 4.4.2 KOT4H i have a issue that my phone is connected for charging on pc but doesn't show up as mtp adb or even fastboot , however it connected for sometime during the day and when i rebooted it ..!! It was just charging and again no adb fastboot or mtp! Please help me solve the issue
Most likely issues would be either drivers, USB cable or USB port. Try a different PC, try to reinstall drivers, try another cable, check to see if any physical damage to USB. Maybe test to see if adb over WiFi works ad well to help narrow down the issue

I have the same problem often too. What I do to fix it ranges from so many things. Some times a simple reboot helps (PC and phone) sometimes a different PC helps. Sometimes switching to PTP instead of MTP helps adb. Sometimes its the driver. Use a universal adb driver. Or use nexus 4 drivers. Or sometimes it's the SDK. Redownload the SDK and install the Google USB driver things. I have never got wireless adb working so you can try it. Sometime switching to USB 2.0 or 3.0 helps. Or switching to the ones on the front of my case helps, Even though I have a good motherboard. Try using adb in recovery.
Oh and last thing. It might be your custom kernel/rom (if your running one). Or USB fast charge is on. Just a possibility. Hope this helps.

no i tried everything in my windows pc it doesnt even connect as adb now
I cant connect my device from adb or fastboot , the phone is just charging, the usb cable is fine i tested other phones too.. I and what is fast charging?
Fast charging means sucking more power from the USB port to charge faster. Anyways do other android devices show up when you type adb devices with others plugged in?

yesss every device is visible

Yes all devices are mounting as mtp adb and fastboot but not mine
Make sure you got good drivers, like the ones I mentioned. And make sure you have ADB on(about phone > tab build number, then in developer options enable adb) and try changing/ messing around with storage mounts ( storage > tap option/menu at corner> USB computer connection) that's all I got. hope I help. I don't what's wrong though...

I doubt it, could be though. Thank god the USB port on the nexus 4 is easily replaceable. In this situation, go download a toolkit (I know, they are bad), and install the adb drivers from there. And try doing some adb/fastboot commands in he toolkit. Also try relocking/unlocking the Bootloader/rooting because that involves fast boot and adb commands. Last thing I would do is try a different PC. Even if all your phones work on the PC your using right now.

im having this exact problem and have tried everything i can think of.....leads diff pc drivers but nothing

Wow, all caps... That gets people flocking to help quickly...
Sounds like you need to uninstall then reinstall proper drivers manually or move to a Linux PC
