Hey there
I'm about to flash a 6.0/M Rom on my Nexus 4 but first I'd like to hear from you how it is so far when it comes to battery life etc?
From what I've read everything seems to work?
Also there are quite a few roms already and I don't know what do load: Frank, Minimal OS, "Fake Nexus Rom"(?), Oneofakind?
Would any AOSP based Lollipop Kernel work? Oh and is there a M Rom that supports to use the volume rocker to change music? I guess Xposed isn't working yet?
Thanks in advance!
In this moment i am using Cataclysm ROM with HellsCore. Cataclysm works fine and it is very fast but sometimes there are some lags and whith HellsCore i have very battery life!! In this rom there is volume rocker and a lot of features... Sorry but i didn't try other M rom!
Thanks so far
I think you missed a word there. You have very ..battery life?
I've used Frank, Unofficial Chroma, Pure AOSP (I think this one is already dead) and Cataclysm . They all are based on AOSP with some added features, at this moment the one with more options/features by far is Cataclysm, Chroma have the menu of features but they are not implemented, just like 8 of them or something like that. Performance is good in all of them, most of the time just like lollipop, and yes there is some lag here an there from time to time but is not the end of the world. Battery life is something else, i am amused, im getting like an extra hour of SO and almost flat lines when not using the phone, i also have Greenify 2.7.1 installed, but i had it on Lollipop and Battery was meh, so it has to be Android M new battery management and stuff. Really Good battery life. Be aware, the is a AOSP bug related to the flashlight, if you turn on your torch from quick settings doesnt matter if you turn in off there is a wakelock that will keep your phone awake until your bateery drains or you fire up the flash with your camera or reboot. Is present in all ROMs at this time.
My current setup:
Cataclysm 11 Oct + 17 oct delta + 20Oct delta (In that Order, they are little zips you have to flash on top of the already installed rom, like an OTA of some sort).
HellsCore kernel b84-M (Has double tap to wake, youll need kernel adiutor to enable it and also tweak the kernel if you wish to - My kernel setup has no weird ****, it works out of the box, all stock, ondemand governor).
Extras:
Double Tap on Statusbar to Sleep Enabler for Android M MOD (Only for AOSP Roms)
New Adreno Drivers (October 2015)
I guess both will be added to roms eventually, but at the moment there not. Only Franks rom has the new adreno driver.
Sorry for my english.
Awesome that was detailed thank you! Hm the flashlight bug is bad .. I use it a lot. Maybe I will wait for a fix then
I'm thinking about trying http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/development/fake-nexus-rom-nexus-4-t3230268
It claims that torch bug is fixed and other bonuses like Camera can launch via double tap power key, adreno drivers, and aldy kernel.
That sounds pretty good as well. Btw are there any informations about xposed and Marshmallow? It took some time for Lollipop but maybe the differences now aren't as big?

Yesterday Cataclysm got a hotfix that solves that problem with the flashlight.

I just bought a G2 and I really love it. I want to know which features i lose if I flash CM11? Can i have stock LG camera? Can i have IR features, like quickremote? Does the knock-on works as in the stock rom?
Which kernel do you suggest for a better battery life?

I've been on stock + xposed since day one and absolutely love it. But all the above you mentioned are lost if you flash CM, which is a big part of why I'd probably never flash an AOSP ROM on this phone. Now, I do believe there are zip files for quick remote and stock LG camera for AOSP. to restore those features. And Knock on/off depends on the kernel being used I believe. But the gain/loss of flashing AOSP over what stock+Xposed offers....just doesnt even begin to be worth it, for me at least.
Knock on works better on cm than stock but knock off doesent work its worth it to me but I love stock android and no bloatware just a matter of what you like

Knock on works. Knock off status bar works and is in settings.
Paek 5.2 kernel is built in and is excellent. BT can cause a crash or freeze while turning on and off.
If you want knock off on the launcher use xblast or g2 setting exposed and nova launcher and you can set it as the double tap settings.
You can also have themes, navbar resize and changes dynamic status bar tiles, active display, immersive mode.
Battery lasts about 12 hours on hard use. Today was 3 hrs of BT and streaming music 15 phone calls. A couple ROM downloads and I was at 60% before I tried paek 5.3 kernel and burned down to 15% in an hour.
Easily a day and is comparable to stock.
Hope that helps

Thank you very much, this is what I was looking for!
So you suggest Omni over CM?
I thought that with a custom kernel, battery life would be better than stock, maybe with a bit of unvervolt
I suggest Paranoid Android, Omni, Nameless and Mahdi. Those are the most stable.. At least to me.

Unfortunately though, you won't be able to use certain games with cm11. Touch doesn't seem to be working well.

Undervolt has been causing a lot of SOD's, so careful. I can't in good conscience tell you which ROM to use. I just switched over to gr33nd3vils cm for today. I'm trying to test out that PAEK 5.3 with no luck on battery life. OMNI has been pretty solid. Just bluetooth issues locking her down every now and then on my end.
So a good compromise is root+xposed+kernel. I'm just looking for a better battery life, so maybe a good kernel and greenify/titanium can help me

I'd go with that.
Kernels have been interesting with stock.
Dorimax Kernel and Furnace I think our our only stock kernels but seriously the stock kernel is pretty clean. Good battery life. I usually run it on interactive but that's just my preference with a 2048 buffer size and noop.
I just installed stock cause I'm going out of town for work this week.
Found the most debloated thing I could and threw down bsleds g2 xposed from the market, xblast from xposed, and google launcher so everything is nice and smooth.
A little bit of everything here.

I haven't seen that Cloudy whatmacalllit. <A post back]You can bet I'm gonna go try it.
So I recently brought up a old nexus 4, the only problem in it is that it has some digitizer issues because of which the below 55px are dead that is the nav keys are dead.
.
So there are many alternatives for it like Pie controls but the one I liked The most is Mipop(you can google it up)
.
So the problem is that it is a MiUi Rom feature, is there any way I can use it up on other roms
Any help?
Also as I am new can someone suggest me some light roms and a Good Kernel for better BATTERY LIFE.
Your help would be appreciated.
Thanks
MiPop for Nexus 4. Just install the apk. Your welcome

As for your second question: it is common knowledge that a kernel, a rom, a theme doesnt affect your batterie life much. Of course if you overclock your CPU/GPU it will drain your batterie much more than stock frequencies. It is your usage bahavior, your apps running in the background, your widget that needs hourly updates, your signal strengths...
But I can recommend you matr1x kernel though. I have tested many, many kernels and I am most satisfied with this one. It has not too much features, but also you dont need them. Try it out
And maybe you should do a factory reset. Your problem may be solved then

I just tested this .apk and it is shewt. It isnt up to date anymore and probably doesnt work with the latest android version, so I dont recommend this. I am sorry, I should have tested it before posting it to you. My bad. Why dont you use something like PIE control? I know, you dont like it, but there isnt much alternative for you.
And what about this one? Try this out and report back.

having tried both, I must say that I'm not very happy with Lollipop. I guess I just expected more with less bugs. The fact that I am unable to use Xposed is also a factor for me. I enjoy having the ease and convenience of being able to place the buttons where I want them and to use the tools that I want to use!
I switched over long enough to build a kernel with a Lollipop base. For those interested in the kernel, it has everything but the sound control of my other kernel.***Corrected*** It does now.
there is no doubt that Lollipop is really fast, but KitKat on my tablet is pretty blazing as well.
What do you think? What are your views?
Staying with lollipop. It's working fantastic. Great battery life.

I have the GPE edition and have no intention of going back, but all I do is root, debloat, and install TWRP, although I have considered a custom kernel to get the knock-on function I love on my G3.
The only annoyance I have is when my tab is starting to go to sleep and I tap the screen to keep it awake and the screen very slowly fades-in. I think it should be instantaneous.
Had to revert back to Lollipop.

You can use the app in my kernel thread (third post) to enable knock on. Just knock on on lollipop. It is native to the device. No kernel change required. If you wish to install my kernel to try it out, just install in recovery. If you dont find it to work better, just restore from recovery. don't have swipe to sleep working yet. *** Correction*** Now it does, and knock on is enabled as default.

I'm sticking with Lollipop. Since picking up a Surface Pro 3, the GPE isn't my primary tablet device anymore. I like having at least one device with Lollipop on it so I can familiarize myself with the changes, and I definitely like how much smoother it is. Like everyone else, I miss Xposed, but everything is a trade-off. I understand why someone would stay on KitKat, though.
Was using your kernel on 4.4.4 on my GPe.
Upgraded to 5.0 and am going to stay on it - noticed an improvement in battery life (especially when idle)

Just updated the Lollipop kernel for every option the 4.4.4 kernel had, plus enabled Knock-On by default. - no more app needed.
Find the latest version, LollipopSleekai2 <HERE>
Recommend using the Interactive governer. Row scheduler enabled by default. Options for Fast Charge, Sound Control, Color Control, Sweep2Sleep, and many others, available through the Trickstermod App. init.d is also enabled by default, and both a Zip Align script and a Battery Saving script are available in the second post of my kernel thread. I'll be staying with Lollipop.... I didn't even bother to unlock the bootloader on my GPE since there wasn't much development (other than your kernel) going on. I'm liking have the same system on both my tablet and phone right now, running an EXP build of CM12 on my G2.

I use a 5g network everyday. Stock 5.0 GPE.
Tried to stay with Lollipop and tried all different kernels and tweaks - reverting back to KitKat 444 as it is smooth and had so many more easy to config options (such as the simplicity of CM in general).
Frankly also I wasn't impressed by the so called simple, clean look of Lollipop using CM. Got to like the simple column layout of the CM444 and so am staying with CM12 Snapshot with Red kernel #11 and 442 base and the smoothness of 444 and NO errors to content with. May consider changing after all smooths out...but now, staying with a proven Rom.
Cal
I'm probably gonna revert back to KitKat. Lollipop looks great, but my gpad gpe is slower and battery is worse. I'll see how it is with sleekmasions kernel, but if it doesn't get better I'm going back .

Use trickster to switch the governer to interactive. Should have interactive set as default soon, and hopefully gamma control as well. And yeah, even with all the work I'm doing on the lollipop kernel, KitKat was ironed out nicely. May still switch back when I've got the lollipop kernel under control. Also, somebody is working on cyanogenmod for the gpe, so that may solve things nicely if they can get it working
There is hope for a Lollipop mod to replace xposed! The legendary Paul posted his plan for the Nexus device's first and then hopefully expand it to others...

Jeez, right when I switched to CyanogenMod. Lol.
Hey Guys,
am am very new to the scene.
Currently I am messing around with some OP2 roms but cant decide which way to go.
Since I don't want to start a big discussion nor messing around with all roms available. All that installation and configuration process making me nuts.
Therefore I will give a statement what features the rom should have.
First of all the rom should be stable, meaning no reboots.
The rom should be very smooth without any hiccups.
The rom should also be very battery efficient while screen on and off (but I think this is more related to a proper kernel and configuration).
Additionally the rom should allow some customization, like a theme-engine.
That's all I need.
Currently I've tested out Paranoid with the default kernel and I think that it is very hungry on battery. Were screen off is fine, due to Greenify, PowerNap and Amplify, the screen on consumption is pretty high (~4h SOT).
I am thinking about giving CM13 a try, but I feel, that there are some bugs left (Slow GPS, Vector bug,...). Therefore I don't see a reason to install a rom which might be pretty awesome, but due to an additional configuration task and buggy features turns out to be not suitable.
p.s. sorry for dat english :silly:
are you desi ?

Hi All,
Since acquiring MXP back in Oct 2015, I have stayed away from rooting and flashing custom ROM (something which I did from day one on my Samsung Google Nexus) because I was more or less happy with the out of the box behavior.
But now MXP on Marshmellow has become kind of slow and ofcourse Nougat roadmap is still not clear (whether it will at all come in May).
So now I want to join the wagon.
So it would be immensely helpful if you can mention which custom ROM you are using as daily driver and why sticking to it?
My criteria is primarily smooth performance and decent battery (now it doesnt last 12 hours on full charge).
Thanks in advance
Roy
I tried almost every Nougat rom (Tesla, CM, RR, AOSiP, AOSP Extended) and finally been using AOSP Extended. I feel this is the most stable and smooth one out there. I use Greenify & GlassFish script and easily get over 30-40 hours on a single charge. I don't play any games on my phone, just some web browsing, music, whatsapp etc. It has almost all the customization available too.
Just like you I was sticking to stock
Now after the N delay, tested a few custom roms. From my experience, also in gaming, Aosip with Optimus Kernel and GlassfishCP-Optimus script have the best performance, does not overheat and has near stock battery life.
Instead of Greenify (that's behaving weird and sometimes causing wakelocks) I'd recommend Servicely.
Still not tested but also CypherOS should be worth a test run. It seems like the most stable and lighter rom on paper!

Thanks all for your replies - sorry for replying late here.
I have seen Moto G4 Plus camera and I am not too happy with its focus.
Is the same camera app used in Nougat roms as well?
I hope and guess the MXP moto camera app would still work - right?
Thanks again!
i am going to change my stock rom, which custom rom should i choose?
Hello all,
I have been using this ROM with Optimis r20 kernel and latest GlassfishCP script since last 4 days.
This is my first custom ROM in MXP, so I must congratulate the devs who have made this usable as daily driver.
Mostly has been running fine with two odd reboots from Recent screen.
-------------------------------------------- Problem below is fixed ------------------------------
One odd observation-FB is unable to get updates, even within app when in mobile data mode. Works perfectly fine with Wifi. Otherwise mobile data works fine and other social apps work fine in mobile data mode. Any guidance if this makes sense, would help.
--------------------------------------------------- Solution by @manddar --------------------------------
This happened to me as well on almost all ROMs, in my case mms internet access point was setup instead of one which is required for internet, www to be exact for Vodafone India.
Try to switch it and you will be good to go. Alternate method is to remove proxy from access point.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My one of the most important criteria was battery life which has not improved till now. I would still reserve my view on that as it's been only 4 days.
Camera focussing has also been same as before in stock MXP using stock Moto camera app(not g4).
Cheers
Roy.
I primarily use RR as my daily driver. Mainly because it has the most features out of all roms. I like having as much customization options as possible. Battery life is pretty good for me, and the rom is stable and performs quite well.
My second choice would be either AOSP Extended or AOSIP. Both have a lot features as well, and they're very smooth and have excellent battery life.
I don't use any mods or custom kernels.

I don't see such an issue. Maybe you have some hardware issue or a scratched lens. What ROMs did you try?
Any one facing issue with quick charge? It stopped working on my phone
AOSCP because:
-Pixel style;
-Same battery life as stock;
-No bugs whatsoever
I'm on aokp rom since early January and it has been my daily driver ever since. No sudden reboot, no app crashes, everything works fine, bluetooth, gps, moto camera, google camera (I use it only for lens blur effect). maybe someday I'll try the aoscp or the aicp roms.
