Hi there, fellow enthusiasts!
My phone doesn't connect to WiFi when the screen is off. As soon as I turn it on, it's good to go; connects within 2 seconds or so which is great. I'm just wondering why it doesn't connect to WiFi when the screen is off. I've tried every option possible and for well over a year now it just doesn't go thru with screen off automatically. I've switched ROMs, done stock, you name it.
It's annoying to have to take the phone out of my pocket, wake it up, and then check my notifications; it should be doing this automatically. I know it does this with data fine but I don't use my phone like that, I'm a WiFi only kinda guy.
Help me troubleshoot. Any help would be of so much help. Thanks!

Modem: MDM9615M
Bootloader: L720VPUAMF9
ROM: CyanogenMod 12.1-20151012 jfltespr
From what I can gather the WiFi needs to poll more when the screen is off. Once in a blue it'll connect with screen off (may take up to 2 hours) to a known SSID. I'm not concerned about battery life with more polling, honestly. It'd be way more convenient to not have to turn my phone on to connect to an SSID.
I believe it used to work on 4.4 but I can't be sure. That thread I linked to said the behavior started on 5.1 if that's helpful.

Ok
The issue you are having was a common issue, but no one has that issue anymore. If I remember correctly that issue happens when you are running an old modem on new firmware. The wifi disconnects when you turn the screen off.
You are using a 4.2.2. bootloader and a 4.2.2. modem with a Lollipop rom. Why haven't you upgraded to a Lollipop bootloader and modem?

I don't know which modem since this is the section for the i9505. It's a different model. You can also just flash the latest stock rom.
You have to check here, but at least you know what to look for.

Same result. Firmware upgraded to latest.
It's not that my WiFi turns off when the phone is asleep. It'll stay on whatever WiFi I'm connected to, but as soon as I am out of range from it, it obviously will disconnect BUT then it doesn't connect to any other WiFi in range unless I turn the screen on first. That thread I linked you to lists the same exact problem.
I appreciate the help.

Your modem didn't update. Try reflashing the firmware you just flashed. Only this time do it twice. So flash it, reboot phone, flash it again.

*edit* Actually...IT WORKS! It connects to a known WiFi network when the screen is off in exactly 4 minutes. Much better than before where it was not at all or hours. You've been completely helpful, dude. Thank you. I just have one more question, is there anyway for it to poll faster with the screen off? As in, can I get it to connect to an open WiFi network under 4 minutes or instantly?

Sorry, wrong forum. no Odin on n4. But there's no port of L on the n4, there's just the preview firmware and that's what threw me. You're probably going to have to flash 4.4.4 firmware in fastboot.

Sure! That would be great if you come up with some solution to this!
Here I am again and I am not sure if I brought the solution for your problem with me.
Truth be told the common solution for WiFi issues is either to flash the latest radio, do a factory reset or reset your router. In your case nothing of this works, so there arent many other options left. We must assume that there is something messed up with your WiFi module.
But try the following first:
- Check if your date and time is correct. Sometimes your device wont let access the internet, because the time/date isnt sync with the time/date on your router
- Did you do anything with your bandwith? There are 5 Ghz and 2.4 Ghz. You may change it to 'Auto' in your advanced WiFi settings.
- Also uncheck 'avoid poor connections' and turn off WiFi optimization
And to be sure: What exactly happens, when you try to connect to your WiFi? In the best case it says 'Connected', but there is also 'obtaining IP address'. Screenshots pls! And other devices can access internet through WiFi?
I hope something of this works and now I am really bumped. May someone else could help?
Hello, a few days ago, my brother rooted his galaxy S4 with Odin, then he decided to go back to the stock version without root permission. But during the installation of the firmware, the computer is turned off. So I decided to try again to install the firmware with Odin. The installation went fine, but the audio and the wi-fi didn't work. So I decided to install a recovery (jflte cwm 6.0.5.0) and install the latest nightly of CyanogenMod 11 Now the wi-fi works perfectly, but the audio doesn't work. I have done many tests reading on the forum, I also changed kernel but nothing.
Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!

Yes, the dialer doesn't work, in the audio settings I can't hear the different ring tones. If I raise the volume up you I can't hear the classic " beep " .
So completely without audio.

Hi,
Yes the problem is related to modem! But to get it working again it's not necessary to go to the latest modem, actually it may not be the solution! Try installing the Galaxy Info app from Play Store ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo) and check your bootloader version, with it you'll have to flash the same version of modem as the bootloader you have.
If that doesn't solve the problem, you'll have to upgrade your modem, just change one version above and keep trying until it works. I know it's tedious, but that's the method I use and always worked .

I've installed the Galaxy info app, and my bootloader was equal to XXUGNG2.
So, I've flashed with Odin the GNG2 modem first, then the 4 and the 8. But the audio still doesn't work.
So, I've flashed with the GNG8 modem his correlated bootloader, but the problem still persists. Any ideas?

Hi,
Not many ideas here. But anyway, just in case you want to try I'm using XXUFNB8 bootloader with the XXUFNB8 modem. If you are running a bootloader newer than mine don't even consider changing your bootloader, but maybe the modem may help.
If you are sure you tried as many possible combinations of BL and MDM, then try flashing another zip, as this one may be corrupted...

Anyone have these or know where to get them? I've looked around to no avail. Since CM didn't upgrade them we all have to do it ourselves... I'd rather not have to go through the agony of going back to stock and probably not doing it right, so figured I'd try flashing the drivers. Real tired of my GPS not working at all, and all the other radios just barely hanging on.
Your help is appreciated!
What do you mean by baseband drivers? Do you mean modem? Then you can flash them yourself true Odin. Keep in mind that CM is experimental, so that could be the problem of your GPS problem.

There has been a JIRA ticket open on it since October with many users and different phones having the problem. Anyone who has fixed it themselves has done whatever specific thing for each phone needs to be done to update the modems. It doesn't seem like CM is going to include the modem drivers in a nightly so it's up to each user to do it themselves .

I just got done installing the latest firmware for my specific phone, and am restoring my CM backup now. I also found that they stopped using a comprehensive jflte package and there are now new ones for each type. They stopped doing that late last year and apparently restarted it this month. I may try installing that tonight.
Thanks!
Sorry I'm a noon, don't do all those font sizes and colours and pictures aha but basically... I've been on CyanogenMod for about a year now and have never had WiFi issues. Been using cm12 nightlies for most of this year with no problem however, after updating my nightly the past two days I've been experiencing WiFi Drops happening every min and a half or so. So annoying. I've used Wifix apps etc, no luck. I've reverted to old night lies I used to run without any problems however the problem stays. I've consider flashing back to TouchWiz to see if that helps it but I really don't want to
Can someone please help me. My phone is on contract and my bill is overdue so I won't have mobile data until it's cleared (around June) so if I don't have WiFi, I'm screwed.

Have you tried flashing a new modem? This generally fixes wifi (and sound issues if there are any)
I barely know what a modem is haha but if that's the case, I'll try today.
Here you have a list of modems. Read the topic as it also has some info and the flashing guide.
You need to go to sammobile firmware checker and input your phone model, country and carrier. Then it will show you the correct firmware for your country and carrier. Based on that, download the modem. Make sure you get the latest modem. If you can't find the latest modem on the linked thread, there was another thread with all the latest modems, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

I'm on 5.02 CM12, I downloaded the latest modem for my GT-I9505 which matched the firmware code for a 4.4.2 S4 however still no luck ffs. This is really annoying, i don't know how my WiFi could jist shut off on me like that :/. Looks like I'm going to have to buy myself a new phone then. Can't use my mobile data for a couple months as my carrier has blocked me until I pay off my bill and now with my wifi disconnecting every 2 mins, I basically cannot use the internet. So frustrated.
I've flashed new nightlies, changed baseband versions, factory reset my phone and still no luck. What makes things worse is i cannot see any other threads with people in my postition so help is so minimal :/. Annoyed is an understatement.

Hi mate ,
Try flashing a new modem it never hurts but wifi is kernel control , see what kernel you had before when it was working good ,check if it was changed in the las upgrade... reflash old kernel again or try a different one

Go back to stock firmware if you haven't updated the bootloader.
If it works fine on stock, then re-root your phone and try again with CM12.

I flashed a modem *read above* and nothing's happened... I even tried flashing WiFi fixes and it hasn't done anything
I didn't know kernels could fix a WiFi problem, I might try that.

Check and see i if power save is on , if so switch it off
Dial *#0011#
This will take you into the Service Mode
Press the left bottom key new menu will show
Select Wifi... Once in the Wifi settings , turn it off...
Do you have to refresh the password? just in case check this
Go to /system
Open the built.prop
search for ro.securestorage.support
If it says true , change to false
Save and reboot
Also if you are skill check the antenna cable inside the phone..maybe is just loose

Grrr... Power save is off
When I dial that code, the phone does nothing...does the fact that I cannot turn on my mobile data stop me from dialing this code? Also, does the fact that I'm on cm12 and not on touchwiz stop me from using this?
& I have no password on my phone and there was no ro.securestorage.support ... I found this "ro.wifi.channels=" if that helps?

The code should work maybe is because CM , well last option would be to flash a stock rom and see how it goes........how you know power save is off?
BTW in your wifi setting there is no proxy ? did you try to delete settings and do a new one?

Damn really didn't want it to get to this, will I lose root access too?
Isn't power save automatically off in the settings? It gives you the option to use it in low battery
& I don't know how to check if there is or isn't proxy. What do you mean by deleting settings?

If you updated bootloader then you can't go back to kitkat roms. Only the 5.0 lollipop roms. But Samsung hasn't released the official update in all countries.
If it still doesn't work, even with official firmware, then it might be hardware related. Maybe even your wifi router.

Hi, i'm going to flash lollipop touchwiz onto my phone using this http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/android-5-...-s4-lte-how-manually-install-via-odin-1492230.
Anything i should know/do before doing this?
Did you flash an alternate kernel?
Wifi issues are often kernel related. Not always...but often.
Hey guys,
I'm using a i9505 as a media device at home. As opposed to all my other devices this phone loses its connection often every few minutes and also often doenst reconnect itsself. Its super annoying. I cant stream nothing or make a internet call.
Has anyone any idea? Flash a modem?
I'm on LOS 16.1

Flashing a modem won't hurt. You should be on the last one for your device anyway.

Does it really not matter whether I download the variant of my country (...HPK2) or the latest without my country code (... HQK1)?

Your carrier stopping at HPK2 simply means they didn't bother putting any work into what to them is a minor update. HQK1 will work on your device without a problem.
Hey again, I flashed the latest STOCK I could find on my i9505. But with STOCK i even cant enable wifi. I already did a factory resst but it doenst help.
Should I try flashing any modem? Or what option do I still have?

If you unpack the ROM package I believe you will find a .bin file for the wifi you can flash in Odin.
