[Q] No Audio - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, a few days ago, my brother rooted his galaxy S4 with Odin, then he decided to go back to the stock version without root permission. But during the installation of the firmware, the computer is turned off. So I decided to try again to install the firmware with Odin. The installation went fine, but the audio and the wi-fi didn't work. So I decided to install a recovery (jflte cwm 6.0.5.0) and install the latest nightly of CyanogenMod 11 Now the wi-fi works perfectly, but the audio doesn't work. I have done many tests reading on the forum, I also changed kernel but nothing.
Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!

I am facing the same problem, I've been running CM 11 nightlies for a looong time though.
I hope that we somehow can get an easy fix for this.

All audio
For you guys, does all of your audio don't work, like you can't call, play YouTube or music?

Yes, the dialer doesn't work, in the audio settings I can't hear the different ring tones. If I raise the volume up you I can't hear the classic " beep " .
So completely without audio.

Thank god, I thought I was the only one, no fix either as far as i know. Looked on the internet for one for an hour yesterday too

Its a modem file that is responsible for it,

If you cannot find your modem file just type in your model name with modem to goodle, install with ODIN good luck!

As I have the international model, I am quite sure that it is the right one, and sammobile.com agrees with me.
PDA: I9505XXUFNB9
CSC: I9505NEEFNB2

damn, maybe try different modems idk..... Cause I think that the modem is the problem, we'll at least for me it was.

I tried to flash different modem with Odin, but nothing.
I tried:
XXUGNG2
XXUGNE5
XXUBMF8
But no, the audio doesn't work!

Hi,
Yes the problem is related to modem! But to get it working again it's not necessary to go to the latest modem, actually it may not be the solution! Try installing the Galaxy Info app from Play Store ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo) and check your bootloader version, with it you'll have to flash the same version of modem as the bootloader you have.
If that doesn't solve the problem, you'll have to upgrade your modem, just change one version above and keep trying until it works. I know it's tedious, but that's the method I use and always worked .

I've installed the Galaxy info app, and my bootloader was equal to XXUGNG2.
So, I've flashed with Odin the GNG2 modem first, then the 4 and the 8. But the audio still doesn't work.
So, I've flashed with the GNG8 modem his correlated bootloader, but the problem still persists. Any ideas?

Hi,
Not many ideas here. But anyway, just in case you want to try I'm using XXUFNB8 bootloader with the XXUFNB8 modem. If you are running a bootloader newer than mine don't even consider changing your bootloader, but maybe the modem may help.
If you are sure you tried as many possible combinations of BL and MDM, then try flashing another zip, as this one may be corrupted...

My sound still comes and goes as it pleases.. It seems like it is having its own life - Sometimes it stays for hours, then goes away for 10 minutes and sometimes it's the other way around.
Anyway, I've tried the phone-info app, and my bootloader (as expected) is: I9505XXUFNB9.
My Baseband version is also I9505XXUFNB9. PDA and CSC are both blank.
It still bugs me a lot I must say...

up, same problem here.
I've tried everything.. Any news?

So.. Just wanted to update you guys..
I've now been "with sound" for about 20 hours, which is a new record, and I think that it will stay.

[Q] i9505 - No reception, black screenfreeze, no sound

Hey all, i got this serious problem.
I've flashed most of the cutom roms right after buying the phone but at some moment i decided i wanted to return to stock again as the phone was behaving weird. I did, was a TNL 4.3 dutch stock rom. After some months i began to encounter no reception problems, it first started once a week for a whole day then it was 3 days problems 1 day reception. I then decided to flash a new 4.4 custom rom to see if it solves the issue but it didnt, i tried to flash a 4.3 rom and then the no sound/black screen/ phone dialer freezes started to occur. I flashed the 4.4 UFNA1 modem, it still persists, i flashed the nightly 4.4 rom and reflashed the UFNA1 modem twice (which was done correctly) and i still have no sound etc... What am i doing wrong here? I feel terrible as i also have no warranty left ofcourse.. Btw. I tried flashing to several stock roms by ODIN which coused the program to freeze and the phone went into a bootloop, which could be fixed by just flashing a custom recovery, and after that ofcourse a custom rom.. Very strange! Someone has an idea??
thanks

There's only this thing, which i can't test atm, but the sim reception problem i talked about, will that be fixed too?? That's the biggest issue and iv've read a lot about it on the net, nobody could seem to fix it. Lots of em said it was an internal error which got fixed by their warranty (they say they got new phones, up till 3 times..) They tried replacing sim/sd bay which didn't solve a thing. Anyone else experiencing this problem and got it fixed??
thanks

Hey, didn't i just flash a modem? Which fixed the sound/freeze bug etc? What if i reflash another (4.3) one and get that old problem again? (im on 4.4.2) I tried selected gsm/lte/wcdma settings manually, the phone was totally dead. My little brother who owns exactly the same phone and carrier (tmobile) have had 0 problems with his phone, he never touched it though and only recently upgraded to 4.3 by KIES. I tried switching out sim cards and my card worked on his phone, but his card didn't work on mine.

Come on guys, not one reply? This is urgent, need some help!
I'm having this reception problem ever since I got this phone from my friend overseas I tried everything flash stock ROM ,change modems, flash custom roms and still no signal I tried different Sim cards also, I'm guessing maybe something is wrong with the main board? So I just gave up and started using it as a media phone alone

I9505 - No sound, no calls, no video

Hi,
I've had som rough weeks with my GS4 I9505. Hopefully some of you can help me.
I'm running CM11 nightlies, which was doing pretty great, until 3 weeks ago, where the media sound disappeared.
Well actually, I found out that the media sound WAS playing, but it was SUPER low. I had to put the volume at max and lay my ear directly on the speaker to hear it just a bit.
I read that a couple of others had the same problem, or at least I thought so, but now I tend more to think that my problem is/was hardware related.
Anyway, I tried flashing a lot of different firmwares, to match the bootloader and so on.
I am currently on:
Bootloader: I9505XXUFNB9
Baseband: I9505XXUFNB9
PDA/CSC: BLANK
The latest stock Samsung firmware I flashed, was: I9505XXUFNB9_I9505NEEFNB2_NEE
I am from Denmark and my phone is unbranded.
When I did that, the phone got VERY slow and wifi didn't work. Then I flashed CM11 again and wifi worked.
But now I am totally unable to make calls, it just freezes up and finally makes the call, but the call-speaker, media-speaker and microphone doesn't work.
When I try playing video (and some games) the specific app freezes and crashes too.
If I at least could get back to where my call-speaker/microphone worked and I had super-low audio I'd be ever so happy, 'cause then I can go and get a new media-speaker.
I hope someone can help me, otherwise I'll have to trash this phone, which I've been pretty happy to use for a while now.
Any pointers will do!
Thank you in advance.

Hi mate , hi DeepankarS
Seem like two different problems here.....
the low volume may be a hardware problem , the speaker gone bad , if you can hear fine with your earphones i would say is a speaker problem...really easy to replace btw.
the other problems showed up after flashing so i asume they come from bad flashing........backup , also efs folder , do a factory reset and flash stock again.......what recovery you have ? the important thing is to leave the phone clean before you flash with Odin

Yea, they started when flashing new bootloader and modem.
I'll try that in the morning (again) - It's quite late here.
I'm on Philz at the moment.
So, the phone should be totally clean before flashing with Odin? I don't think I did that last time actually
What firmware should I flash? The same as last time?

Dowbload any october/september build without carrier locking.
AFAIK, there was this UK one of October. You can try that
Also there is an Ireland one without carrier locking
AND IF YOU ARE ROOTED AS OF NOW, BACKUP EFS BEFORE FLASHING.
Use a good rated efs backup app from the playstore.

Hi ,
you have two options , factory reset and clean to install a new rom , try them both
Also would not hurt to mounts and storage menu/ format data and /datamedia ( /sdcard) that is your internal SDcard so is really clean....but after that you need to have a custom rom in the externalSD or go to download mode and flash with odin ....
Same rom as before should be fine....or download it again just to make sure is ok
BAckup first!! efs folder also.

Get a speaker replacement and google this

Edit : Wait sound as in no audio in all the speakers?

HELP! WiFi Issues

Sorry I'm a noon, don't do all those font sizes and colours and pictures aha but basically... I've been on CyanogenMod for about a year now and have never had WiFi issues. Been using cm12 nightlies for most of this year with no problem however, after updating my nightly the past two days I've been experiencing WiFi Drops happening every min and a half or so. So annoying. I've used Wifix apps etc, no luck. I've reverted to old night lies I used to run without any problems however the problem stays. I've consider flashing back to TouchWiz to see if that helps it but I really don't want to
Can someone please help me. My phone is on contract and my bill is overdue so I won't have mobile data until it's cleared (around June) so if I don't have WiFi, I'm screwed.

Have you tried flashing a new modem? This generally fixes wifi (and sound issues if there are any)
I barely know what a modem is haha but if that's the case, I'll try today.
Here you have a list of modems. Read the topic as it also has some info and the flashing guide.
You need to go to sammobile firmware checker and input your phone model, country and carrier. Then it will show you the correct firmware for your country and carrier. Based on that, download the modem. Make sure you get the latest modem. If you can't find the latest modem on the linked thread, there was another thread with all the latest modems, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

I'm on 5.02 CM12, I downloaded the latest modem for my GT-I9505 which matched the firmware code for a 4.4.2 S4 however still no luck ffs. This is really annoying, i don't know how my WiFi could jist shut off on me like that :/. Looks like I'm going to have to buy myself a new phone then. Can't use my mobile data for a couple months as my carrier has blocked me until I pay off my bill and now with my wifi disconnecting every 2 mins, I basically cannot use the internet. So frustrated.
I've flashed new nightlies, changed baseband versions, factory reset my phone and still no luck. What makes things worse is i cannot see any other threads with people in my postition so help is so minimal :/. Annoyed is an understatement.

Go back to stock firmware if you haven't updated the bootloader.
If it works fine on stock, then re-root your phone and try again with CM12.

I flashed a modem *read above* and nothing's happened... I even tried flashing WiFi fixes and it hasn't done anything
I didn't know kernels could fix a WiFi problem, I might try that.

Grrr... Power save is off
When I dial that code, the phone does nothing...does the fact that I cannot turn on my mobile data stop me from dialing this code? Also, does the fact that I'm on cm12 and not on touchwiz stop me from using this?
& I have no password on my phone and there was no ro.securestorage.support ... I found this "ro.wifi.channels=" if that helps?

The code should work maybe is because CM , well last option would be to flash a stock rom and see how it goes........how you know power save is off?
BTW in your wifi setting there is no proxy ? did you try to delete settings and do a new one?

Damn really didn't want it to get to this, will I lose root access too?
Isn't power save automatically off in the settings? It gives you the option to use it in low battery
& I don't know how to check if there is or isn't proxy. What do you mean by deleting settings?

If you updated bootloader then you can't go back to kitkat roms. Only the 5.0 lollipop roms. But Samsung hasn't released the official update in all countries.
If it still doesn't work, even with official firmware, then it might be hardware related. Maybe even your wifi router.

Simple inquiry about WiFi when screen's off

Hi there, fellow enthusiasts!
My phone doesn't connect to WiFi when the screen is off. As soon as I turn it on, it's good to go; connects within 2 seconds or so which is great. I'm just wondering why it doesn't connect to WiFi when the screen is off. I've tried every option possible and for well over a year now it just doesn't go thru with screen off automatically. I've switched ROMs, done stock, you name it.
It's annoying to have to take the phone out of my pocket, wake it up, and then check my notifications; it should be doing this automatically. I know it does this with data fine but I don't use my phone like that, I'm a WiFi only kinda guy.
Help me troubleshoot. Any help would be of so much help. Thanks!

Modem: MDM9615M
Bootloader: L720VPUAMF9
ROM: CyanogenMod 12.1-20151012 jfltespr
From what I can gather the WiFi needs to poll more when the screen is off. Once in a blue it'll connect with screen off (may take up to 2 hours) to a known SSID. I'm not concerned about battery life with more polling, honestly. It'd be way more convenient to not have to turn my phone on to connect to an SSID.
I believe it used to work on 4.4 but I can't be sure. That thread I linked to said the behavior started on 5.1 if that's helpful.

Ok
The issue you are having was a common issue, but no one has that issue anymore. If I remember correctly that issue happens when you are running an old modem on new firmware. The wifi disconnects when you turn the screen off.
You are using a 4.2.2. bootloader and a 4.2.2. modem with a Lollipop rom. Why haven't you upgraded to a Lollipop bootloader and modem?

Same result. Firmware upgraded to latest.
It's not that my WiFi turns off when the phone is asleep. It'll stay on whatever WiFi I'm connected to, but as soon as I am out of range from it, it obviously will disconnect BUT then it doesn't connect to any other WiFi in range unless I turn the screen on first. That thread I linked you to lists the same exact problem.
I appreciate the help.

*edit* Actually...IT WORKS! It connects to a known WiFi network when the screen is off in exactly 4 minutes. Much better than before where it was not at all or hours. You've been completely helpful, dude. Thank you. I just have one more question, is there anyway for it to poll faster with the screen off? As in, can I get it to connect to an open WiFi network under 4 minutes or instantly?

Your carrier stopping at HPK2 simply means they didn't bother putting any work into what to them is a minor update. HQK1 will work on your device without a problem.
