Hi!
I did a quick search, didn't see much. I ordered the S5 Sport edition from Sprint and it arrives Monday. However, I've been very interested in the M8 HK edition, mainly for the earbuds. I'm actually thinking about keeping the S5 Sport but because it's so new I can't really find much on it on the scene!
After reading a lot of reviews, both phones appear equal - I'm leaning towards the S5 Sport for the physical buttons but I just want to see if I can install custom ROMs on it (maybe regular S5 ones?) .. either now or in the near future. The other stuff is there just in case someone wants to comment on their personal experience with it. Also, below you can ignore, but I'm listing out the comparisons I made briefly while typing this out in case anyone wants to comment on something with their personal experience.
Is there anything in development for the Sport? Is it even that popular of a phone yet? I love to customize and I'm interested in actually using the bloatware it comes with, but if it turns out it's a battery drain and/or I don't use it, I'd want to put on a clean slate ROM.
I love the water resistant certification. I can use it with wet hands and not feel like I'm potentially murdering it.
I love the physical buttons (which is why I ordered the Sport) because I hate the S3's (phone I currently have) capacitative buttons. The M8 has buttons on screen which I hate even more but I would be able to deal with it.
I do take a lot of random pictures and I'm loving the 16 megapixel camera. I've read that the M8 camera is not awful though and the ability to refocus is great.
I heard the S5 can be laggy. The M8 seems to have a better optimization.
The sport is the same as the s5 active ...its just sprint naming of the phone ...

Does this mean I can use the the same custom ROMs? I figured it'd be different because it's a different carrier (Sprint)
U wouldn't b able to use the roms from att or t-mobile active but the root method would be the same I believe since it's same hardware just different radio bands enabled and disabled

Man, all I want to do is root it.. =\
UPDATE:
I don't regret my purchase. The S5 Sport is EXTREMELY BLOATED! I wanted it for the physical buttons .. it was very painful to sure until the root came out. I downloaded an app to remove the majority of the bloat and now my phone is excellent. Slightly quicker and less annoying popups (and my apps are less crowded). Threw on Nova Launcher Prime and it is good to go.

Looks like AT&T is not being the first to roll out the 4.4.4 update. I'm guessing it will be happening sooner than later.
Here is a list of the updates happening:
Android 4.4.4
HD voice Icon support
International Wi-Fi Calling support
Google Security Patches
Knox 2.0
Kids Mode
I got this from Samsung's website talking about Sprint:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQPopup.do?fm_seq=73981&faq_id=FAQ00057083
I also heard from rumors that they are planning to unlock our bootlooder. I wouldn't put to much weight in that though.
But, Knox 2.0? What is that?
I lost hope on a bootloader unlock

Another thought is, since the new Note 4 is so close to the Note 3, as far as what we can do with it, I really don't see that much of a software update happening.
Think about it. Sammy's main goal is to make more $$ on the new hardware, so why invest more time andc $$ in an update?
Just a thought.

Supposedly they have to support us with updates and stuff for 18 months. The Note 3 has been out for almost a year, so we should still be getting 4.4.4 and L. I have a feeling they're going to skip 4.4.4 and go straight to L, which I will be avoiding at all costs.

AT&T/Samsung updates go in the direction of maximum corporate security, so unless you're the network admin for some company, probably not. (They want to turn your phone into the company's phone, so if you're not in the business of buying your employer a phone that they allow you minimal use of, Samsung is no longer the phone to buy.
Maybe if they lose enough business, they'll change their policy.
Ya oneplus phone is what I'm thinking

L= downfall of Android. Read up on it and you will see why. After the KitKat update fiasco earlier this year I've learned my lesson and plan to stay put on 4.4.2 until my Note 3 dies.
I'm thinking 4.4.4 sooner rather then later. I'm assuming several months before an "L" release.

This is what I'm going to go with. L is a long ways away for Samsung devices. Look how long 4.4.4 has been out and we still haven't seen it. I wish it was different and AT&T had speedy updates but sadly that's not the case.

I'm saying L= bad because I've read rumors about how Google will be incorporating Knox or something like it into the source code. It'll be locked down tighter than NC2 and may be the end of root and ROMs. Supposedly even the Nexus 5 guys had a hard time rooting the L developer preview.
I'll wait and see if the rumors about L are true before moving away from Android. There's no way I'd be caught dead with an iPhone and Windows phones don't appeal to me.
I'll see if I can get you some links after work.

Adding "Knox" to the search helped a bunch. Here's a pretty good article:
http://www.cso.com.au/article/550673/google_details_knox-inspired_enterprise_managed_profiles_android_l/
It looks as if Google may still try to lock the bootloader, just not through Knox.
Thanks!
I just got this update a few minutes ago. I can't seem to find anyone talking about it. Anyone got any information on changes?
Just the stage fright patch
To me this is kind of a disappointment, considering that the time was taken to produce a security update for an exploit that has been around a while, but the release a new os for the ultra/maxx/mini users that could better the experience and patch the security issues is nowhere in sight. Furthermore with this patch, its very doubtful that we will see L on our devices.

Big disappointment indeed. This is all Verizon has to offer? A patch for the stagefright bug? Wow, I'm impressed. Not!
Yeah, I think at this point droid maxx/ultra/mini users can pretty much forget about getting Lollipop. I mean come on, L has been out for a year and these phones are two years old now. They (the carriers) are not going to waste time, money, and effort on dinosaur phones, especially with Marshmallow out now.
Edit: Just got my "New system software available". Had to go into settings>system update to get the notification. The update is only 2.7 megabytes. Just a bug patch, that's all.
Whoopee! Not!
So if they don't deliver, will maxx users get a kickback like atrix hd owners did when kk wasn't delivered.

Just kidding, of course.
Surprising that they are slacking so bad with so many 2013 droid phones that receive the same update with the ultra and mini supposed to get it too and the mini is still being sold at Verizon.

Not so minor, read major BUG fix!
Stock launcher update, no more safe boot crashes while you have more than 200 apps.
For starters...
Look at the zip, many apps updated.
Will because of this I bet we are not gonna see 5.1 on are phones tell next year if at all.
And im also gonna hold off on updating in hopes of a bootloader unlock to install some roms/make my own.

The "update" is only 2.7 mb in size. There is not a lot going on with the update. Just the stagefright patch that's all.
Verizon took all this time just to come out with a 2.7 mb update? This sucks bigtime.
I'm looking at getting the Moto X Pure. It is unlocked and can be used on Verizon's network. The bootloader is unlockable through Motorola/Lenovo. I don't want any more of Verizon's locked down phones.

You're wrong! Many apps updated to fix long standing bugs. LOOK at the 2 sys app folders before you make ignorant statements. I took it based on the app folder content, it fixed a major bug. I bet it fixes the Bluetooth / Maps / Youtube bug as well.... You assume that vzw passes all the Moto details to us. They do not.

Finally got OTA .. XT1092 , Indian Model
I got my update to Marshmallow yesterday. Pretty impressed at the speed of this one as Lollipop took forever to arrive!!
The actual update process went very smoothly.
It's made the overall feel of the whole OS a lot nicer and smoother. Definitely feels more polished to me. Also love the unbelievable control of app permissions in this one! They've really ramped up on security here.
Another small but amazingly useful change: the addition of battery percentage!!!! Took them long enough but finally it's here in some form or another!
Everything seems to work quite well without having to reset the phone like I used to have to do when upgrading from other versions of Android.
Not tested battery life just yet but hoping it'll have improved thanks to Doze.
So far I'm very impressed with this one and am actually considering sticking to Android a bit longer as my plan was change my phone for an iPhone 7 when released as was getting really sick of the silly little Android bugs.

try using chromium or cm browser no lag at all on those I'm running a Brazilian 1097 twrp backup from last month on my 1095. No lag in the system but terrible with chrome. using those browsers solved my issue.
Chromium is it the same as Chrome Dev?
not only chrome many apps shows lag like instagram whatsapp facebook side scrolling phonograph(too much) .
try chrome dev or chrome beta, the animation stutter on the 3 dot menu bar on top right is not there on the beta and dev version.
also if you turn on moto voice from settings>accesibility, chrome will go berserk and start lagging more and switching it off makes it normal again.i dont know why this is happening, anyhow i already reported this on moto forums

I got this update yesterday, and now Im having new issues.. The lockscreen doesn't actually lock half the time, even when manually pressing the lock button. I'll hit 'home' to wake the phone and find myself right on my homescreen instead of the lock screen. I also keep getting a popup that says 'network connection failed', but everything seems to be working normally... Anybody else having issues from this new update?
My wife and I got this update to Nougat on Saturday (03/25). Went from Android 6.something to Android 7.0.
Overall, it seems a little snappier, but I think I had the lockscreen issue this morning that Smoghog mentioned. Pulled it off my belt and when I looked at the screen it was open and dialing my wife.
I'm also not sure I like that the pulldown notifications are in smaller type. My wife's a little upset she can't customize the balloon colors in Messages (unless we're missing something).
Only other thing is why is the security update from February if they're pushing this at the end of March?
