LG Flash tool doesn't detect model, please help. - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As you read. After a whole day of searching non-stop from day 'til night, I finally give up and ask for help.
I've tried to flash a Lollipop ROM, which resulted in my LG G2 D800 having a soft brick.
I already had this issue once, so I knew what I had to do. I used a Kitkat 20c TOT package to return to Stock Kitkat. However, I kept recieving an error;
Device Model Unknown, Check Model or DLL. Or something similar. Upon my first search, I found out about the custom DLL.
So I tried it. But I get another error; CrossDL [Unknown] to [D800]. I tried 3 different DLL files, modified the TOT file (Hex Editor paste write)
I also ended up flashing some img files I don't remember which post it was exactly, but it was from here.
My device no longer boots up, it gives me, however, the option to either reboot or go directly to download mode once I power it on.
Please note; before and after the img flashing. I kept having the same issue.
So in short, I have no idea of how to flash the tot file because it keeps giving me a Device Model error. It there truly a way for the LG FLash tool (1.8.1 I think) to simply ignore what model it is before flashing?
Also, I tried this on another computer, but no luck, same result. I'm doing this on my PC with a Virtual Machine (I run Linux Mint as a Main OS) so I'm truly unsure if it's that, though the first time I did it when I first had the issue, it worked just fine...
Any ideas, suggetions?
Edit :: Another reason why I'm posting this is because a lot, if not all people with a D800 with this issue, their posts are either ignored or discontinued. So if I get this fixed, I'll make sure to specify how I did.

Did you flash that g4 port ROM you were looking at? That wasn't for the d800.

I actually flashed This ROM
The first time I had this issue, it was because, I flashed CloudyG2 3.3.
Both the D800 Variants of the ROMs
It seems the issue is that I didn't have the kitkat bootloader (though, my device has Kitkat by default, so, why does it have this issue?)

[Q] [REQ] DLL for flashing D805 10B TOT file through LG Flash Tool 1.6 - Please help

Guys, I really need to find the LG DLL file database for flashing .TOT files.
The DLL file I need is for the LG G2 D80510B_00 or LG G2 D80510A_00 TOT file firmwares, to be used on 1.6 LGFlashTool, for Brazil unbranded variant of the phone. I believe it will work for all D805 models.
The .TOT file I intend to use is LGD805AT-00-V10a-724-05-AUG-23-2013-16G+0.tot
I have scoured the internet for over a week and found none other than in a chinese LG G2 forum, the link -- http://bbs.gaodi.net/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=662769&extra=page=1&filter=typeid&typeid=2381 -- and the file was no longer available for download. I registered on their forum, but the file was showing an error even after proper registration.
I have not found this DLL anywhere, is there a database for it? How did people come up with the AT&T and Vzn DLL versions? I haven't been able to extract it from the KDZ files either, and the DLLs generated from the KDZ during UpdateTool does not work.
I had bricked the phone originally by trying to use Scott's Clean Rom on it, and it bricked into fastboot mode. I flashed something wrong on fastboot, I can't even remeber what, and rebooted, and fastboot was no longer accessible...
I can get into download mode, and factory reset from stock recovery, no custom recovery available, it is gone. I try to flash KDZ files, many versions besides my D805 one, just for the sake of trying, but all of them get stuck on the 49% point. I have set up port 41, disabled modem, reset phone before trying, selected many different language combinations besides my own Portuguese one. Nothing works.
On LGFlashTool 1.6 it seems like it can work, but it errors at 1%, when I use the DLLs for D800 or D802. I need the DLL for D805. I even managed to find the proper TOT file.
I have also searched for about two days on how to reenter fastboot mode from where I currently am stuck.I even did a DIY Factory Cable on an micro USB I had lying around, soldered it all right, but it did not work, and the cable got very hot. I think these cables will not get G2 into fastboot mode, like it seems to do on Kindle fire and Motorola devices. Maybe my DIY was not that good, but I think it should have worked, I made sure the soldure was set and good.
I am downloading Android SDK to try to get back into fastbood mode from there, if there is a way, as it seems to be. I would try to reflash boot and other partitions in an attempt to fix my phone... Is there a way, or another faster path back into Fastboot?
Download mode does not show the version of the firmware on the phone in the box that displays information in the bottom while fdlashng KDZ files. It leaves a blank line where it should be. I believe it is part of my problem, that LGFlashTool does not see a version on the phone at some point, and fails. Or the phone rejects the PC pushes.
I am almost going to the tech support guy with a flash box downtown, but that would be my last resot, and then official LG support, if all else fails. I don't want to go to LG yet because download mode shows ROOTED in red, and they would see it probably, and my warranty become void.
Thanks for any ideas, guidance or help... Cheers guys.
Read this carefully may help you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477595
Yeah, that was the guide I used when I landed on fastboot after a bad flash from CleanROM... I flashed some boot.img and recovery.img that didnt work out well.
After I flashed these I rebooted and fastboot mode was no longer loading, instead, I am now on bootloop of the LG logo, with no animation, just the first logo that shows on boot, and I can access stock recovery to factory wipe and also access download mode. My download mode shows rooted warning, and while I am flashing a KDZ, does not show the firmware version I currently have in the middle of the box - before I flashed those .IMGs, it did show the version.
I now a, after a .DLL for D805 10A .TOT file, and I cannot find it. I think the flash method from LGFlashTools 1.6 will work, with .DLL and .TOT files, where the LGFlashTools 1.0.5 did not work for me, with .KDZ.
Or if anyone knows of a way to get into the fastboot mode for G2, pelase let me know. Then I could reflash some .IMG files and hopefully get my phone back online...
Try to flash other version even this is 802 or internetional version. At least you can proof your phone completly brick or not.
I only have all TOT file link of F320 and D802 if you need to try.

Hi guys, I finally managed to fix it a couple days after my thread.
I took long to post this, sorry, I had some interner problems...
Turns out there's already a thread explaining how to do it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370
I went to LG Mobile Support Tool and >Options on top right >Update Recovery.
It had to download, so I did it at a friend's who had 50Mbps internet house, to fix this.
I am sorry that I could not manage to do it offline. I even had the KDZ file to flash, but it was only possible through this option in LG Support Tool...
Best of luck to all in any similar problem, I know I was kinda without hope at some points. I spent 2 weeks trying to fix the phone.
Cheers,
Andrew

I already installed this ROM and Worked all fine, but when I'm trying to install some Magisk Modules and rebooted my device it get stuck at LG logo... I can access Download mode but not my TWRp recovery.
Any solution to my problem? Just a little help...

Thanks to all that tried to help me! I appreciate it a lot! Thank you so much!
My only solution was to try short the capacitors following this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/general/lg-g2-unbrickable-fix-real-hard-brick-t2904404
Thanks God I don't need to mess with the board!
My problem was that I tried this ROM LineageOS 17.1 with latest version of TWRP Blastgator. Everything was running fine until I flashed Magisk and installed some Mods, then the device rebooted and I get stuck at logo!
No System and no Recovery access, only Download mode! :crying:
Then I followed this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
I used to install some custom ROMs like Cloudy G2, LineageOS, Resurretion Remix and AOSPX Pie and tried to this new one. I never had any problems!
This time I realized that my device was forever bricked, my last hope was to short the capacitors but I tried all ways to back to Stock because in Downlaod Mode my device was recognized by Windows.
I tried this in Windows 10 x64 but no success, then I formatted an old HD with Windows 7 x64 to try again!
Old Flash Tool get me stuck at 2% or 4%... no success in both system with all LG drivers available... NO SUCCESS!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53313255&postcount=5400
LGUp only gives Unknow Device and never start but it's seens the device on port 41 - that I changed following the tutorial.
My last hope was New Flash Tool but I needed TOT file for my Device - D805 not D802 and the correct DLL. initially I didn't find anywhere... Like this guy:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2583851
I give a lot of tries... a lot of different files, DLLs, tried .KDZ and .DZ, only errors and errors... a lot of "Failed to Load()"...
I'm getting frustrated until I see this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
And found this mine of gold of Downloads:
http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G2/
And again, thanks to all, there is a hope in the D805 folder!
I get the TOT File: BIN_LGD805AT-00-V10a-724-05-AUG-23-2013-16G.zip and tried the LG Firmware Extractor (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600575) to get a new DLL (LGUP8974.dll).
And voilĂ , like a charm that WORKED!!!!!!!!! :fingers-crossed::highfive:
It installed Jelly Bean the with the Official LG Updater I installed Kitkat and finally Lollipop.
Later I'll try this LineageOS Rom again!
I hope I can help someone in need like me!!
I thank this forum a lot!!
And please excuse my English!
Thank you so much!

stuck....ls980 thinks it is the d800

my ls980 thinks it is the d800 and I can't seem to flash it back to the ls980.
I flashed a custom ROM thru twrp and I got an error. I tried restoring the backup and the system partition would not mount. after poking around for quite some time I tried restoring the phone in download mode. apparently the computer thought it was the d800 and flashed the system for that phone. when it restarted I saw the at&t boot screen and when it started up it was not working correctly.
I put it back in download mode and tried flashing the phone again. the computer was sure it was the d800. then I tried flashing manually using the DLL intended to convert this and the tot file for the ls980. I get the error saying I can't convert from the d800 to the ls980.
I then tried flashing thru adb from both windows and linux. both say they cannot find the phone regardless how I try connecting.
since I flashed the factory files the phone will not start in recovery mode I have no clue why.
so now I have a phone that:
will not flash the ls980 tot file,
will not connect to adb,
and will not boot into recovery.
now what?

Dang dude. Harsh. I almost ended up in this same situation after downloading files for the wrong device and noticed literally at the last second and was able to pull the plug, literally, and save my device.
I've been looking for ways to fix it in case it happens again and I don't catch it in time, so if I find the answer I'll let you know. There has to be a way to trick the computer into thinking it's a LS980 like it's supposed to be the same way it thought the phone was a d800.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I was told that there was a DLL file that could be used when flashing it to trick it into thinking it's the ls980 but all I get is an error message I forget exactly what the message says but something to the extent that I don't have the right files for the phone that I have.

woops im a little slow here. what is LGNPST ? I solved the issue by manually editing the build.prop file and that tells the lg mobile support tool that it is a different phone. that was a whole different complicated story of its own but it worked.
sorry I didnt see your comment until now.
def sounds like you used the wrong dll or just the stock lg dll which works with some phones, but others need their specific dll to match the tot and such to make a proper bootloader flash over i believe.

[Q] My D803 (Bell) is a D801? WTH?

So long story short I screwed my phone up and had to use LG Flash Tool to make it work again. The weird thing is, when I tried to flash a D803 .TOT file the LG Flash Tool said "wrong phone model" or something along those lines. It then said "D801" was my phone model. I searched and searched and SEARCHED for Bell D801 and could only find people saying it's D803. Well, I said screw it and downloaded TMobile's D801 .TOT and flashed it. The phone works now but it has a TMobile boot animation. It still connects to Bell fine, but here's the main issue;
Part of my touchscreen doesn't work anymore and I'm still under warranty if I can just get the phone back to stock to have it sent in. How can I do this? Any help? Also, does flashing with the LG Flash Tool make it so LG can't see I ever rooted the phone?
Thanks!
Maybe its a wind phone? I believe those are d801s because I have a bell one and that is D803

So are you saying there is no TOT? I cant get the kdz method to work... so i need a tot.
Ok so I typed my IMEI into some site and it said my phone is indeed a D803! However, because I flashed a TMobile .TOT to the phone, my phone thinks it's a D801. Oh god... How do I fix this now?
BUMP!
Hmm I'm not sure how you can go back but if you are within warranty you can try wrecking the system (so it doesn't work) and send it in for repair... They will reinstall a new version
Maybe your bootloader or whut was d801?? Idk but can you try to flash this kdz http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda/LG+G2/Stock/Canada+D803/
Then the one from bell? I hope its gonna be alright if you can flash it. Note that if you screw up with flashing then try not to wreck your system but try to repair it you itself since a system wreckage doesn't come fromself and lg doesnt need to pay the price to fix it. Even under warranty. I know lg screws up stuff but flashing is at own risk.
Edit: I sawmyour other thread so nvm.
Alright so I redownloaded LG Flash Tool and everything and I put my phone in download mode. It starts updating my firmware, it gets to 49% and then fails and says "TYPE_WPARAM_UPGRADE_ERROR" in the log. What does this mean and how do I fix it? I think when I flashed the TMobile .TOT it made my Bell phone think it is TMobile and maybe that's why I'm getting this error. How do I fix my phone and make it realize it's D803?

Change your windows language and locals like unicode to english if it wasn't
Turn off or allow the app through your antivirus.
Reinstall LG USB Driver, LG Flash Tool etc
Change the LG device in Device manager to COM port 41 or COM port 4 before connecting to PC.
See or your KDz weights around 2gb and not less then it cause that would be maybe a sign of an corrupted KDZ.
The last thing what i also think is that the Lg flash tool maybe reads the D801 in the build.prop or what and as safety measure it cuts off the flashing progress so you might change the D801 to D803 or however it was called in Bell.
Hope that one of these things could solve your problem.

Thanks for the info, but how do I change the build prop? I tried the adb usb thing and I get "device closed"
Woohoo! I fixed the bi*ch! Sorry, I'm a little excited here... Anyway, I followed the instructions above and it worked. I think the above is well written and easy to understand except for one thing: How to change build number (if you're like me and flashed the wrong TOT).
It's simple. Make sure you have a rooted phone and download root explorer (black icon with a little android face). Next, follow this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1948558
Make sure you change the model number before you try flashing the kdz only if you messed up with tot flashing like me. Otherwise, as mentioned above, make sure you're on COM41. This worked great. Now I can take my bell phone back to the store and have it seen to (I have a hardware issue with the screen no sensing touch in certain areas).

Help... Imei null

Hi, first of all, this is my first thread on XDA... this is the best site to find any answer related to phones...
Im experiencing a very hard trouble here with my LG G2 D805
I bought it refurbished from a person who made a wrong flash to this device and he gave it to me bricked... so i decided to get into the task to fix this phone... first i made it power on in the first day... the phone on the back cover, says d805, but in hardware info says d802...
i read about about those changes and it was something "common" and "easy" to fix, but hey... then i checked and had Imei NULL... and it begun to restart almost every 3 minute... this is supposed to happen when there's a wrong modem.img on the phone....
the phone says on the back that its a 805, so i went into tutorials to make the 802 root and recovery,, i got it.. then i tried all of this:
- Try to change my build.prop model number, no success
- Tried flashing 805 modems (i found 3 different), no success
- I found other tutorial where it can be fixed with tot files, and i found dll and tot for 805. no success
- Tried normal flash on lg flashtool with 805 kdz, no success
- Tried CDMA>Cs_Emergency>CSE flash, no success
- Tried uninstalling all drivers and again the above, no success
I found just one way to make it "work" and as long as i had recovery, i flashed cloudy rom... it works, doesnt reboot or anything... But the only thing I'm missing is my IMEI... it shows NULL, and also i dont have baseband, but can use everything except simcard related
the KDZ's i've tried are here http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=36
I tried with:
D80510A_00.kdz
D80510B_00.kdz
D80210A_00.kdz
and its variables from countries
also tried all this steps and flashed that only tot file that i could get to find of 805: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2667258

@GTMoraes i think you choose the hard way, and i need to tell you,the phone is not a D802 now. and no one need to accept that, there are more easy ways (i past for this and i learn how to fix whithout flash a D802 kdz) than make your D805 a D802 G2:
1. Uninstall your drivers and install again
2. Just replace the the phone build.prop for a D805 build.prop reboot and flash your D805 kdz, done.
3. if you done have a D805 build.prop just edit the one you have and change all d802 lines for d805, reboot and flash your D805 kdz, done.
4. try the @monkey5i solution ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50751778&postcount=9), it works too.
5. if the 2 past ways dont work for you, do this:
- follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475045
- for the guide use this tot file http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprim...N_LGD805AT-00-V10a-724-05-AUG-23-2013-16G.zip and the attached dll file
- follow the guide and done, this guide unbrick any LG G2 Variant whit the proper tot and dll file.
6. share this post for any who have problem going back to stock or the 49% flash error.

I bought it refurbished from a person who made a wrong flash to this device and he gave it to me bricked... so i decided to get into the task to fix this phone... first i made it power on in the first day... the phone on the back cover, says d805, but in hardware info says d802...
I found just one way to make it "work" and as long as i had recovery, i flashed cloudy rom... it works, doesnt reboot or anything... But the only thing I'm missing is my IMEI... it shows NULL, and also i dont have baseband, but can use everything except simcard related

If you truly have d802 hardware, you may have to flash a d802 modem in order to get your IMEI back. Do this at your own risk but it has worked for some of the d802 frankenphones that actually have d800 hardware. (d800 modem restores IMEI in their case)

I already tried that, it didnt work... hardware says d805, but when i recieved it said 802... i know now how to change it from 805 to 802 and back, but flashing every baseband i found for 805 and 802 would not work, took every BB for those versions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451426

You may have to attempt a fix with QPST then assuming you know your original IMEI.

Already tried, but always get a error message that says something like cannot write Imei... i think it can be drivers issue because sometimes when i connect it says installing CDC serial and after minutes it gets error... do you know if this is making some conflict?

I wonder if it needs to use a specific com port? I have honestly not attempted that fix.

i tried also with EFS pro but it asks me to have super user on stock, but being on stock it doesnt stop rebooting, so its almost impossible to install it

But you are able to enable usb debugging and attempt a qpst fix without it rebooting? Do the reboots only occur when you try to open apps?

with the many attempts i've made i know now how to root it (without SU) and install recovery, i have usb debugging on... and it lets me have enough time to try it with qpst, but it doesnt even let me read phone info
Need EFS backup from an AT&T D800
Hi, I have the issue IMEI = null sinse I've done an update of a rebadged D802 (really D800) from KK to LP, I tried everything i found in forums but nothing changed.
I can't use NV tools or QPST because the phone is not recognised and the connection can't be maintained.
So, the last solution i didn't try yet is to flash an EFS backup from another AT&T D800.
so, where can I find an EFS backup (with IMEI 0 or real IMEI, i'll change it with mine)
It'll be very nice if someone helps me getting my phone back to work
Thanks

Soft brick

I soft bricked the phone and now can only get into download mode. The phone only has two partitions and I was hoping that flashing a KDZ would fix this.
I'm running Linux Mint on my machine and using SALT an LG type open source program in order to flash.
Question: I heard that I should flash something before the Dec 2017 security patch. I can't find any KDZ files unfortunately and was hoping someone here would have a server I could pull it from.

Oh goodness I'm so terribly sorry I seem to have over looked it.
It's an LGV20 H910
What happened is that I used a ROM that was for another model and it kept crashing. After some time I started tinkering with some other software before I realized that even though I bought the device as a 996 I got the 910 version from the eBay seller.
In any case I remember someone mentioning that if I'm going to flash a stock kernel I should stick to something that was before the DEC 2017 security patch so that I can keep the exploit that enables ROM flashing.
Not sure if that's referring to the bootloader that I'll have to flash or the stock ROM itself.
Oh and lastly I remember someone mentioning that the KDZ for my variant of V20 doesn't have any stock images so I'll have to take one from another model flash it to boot then root it and flash a custom bootloader and then re-flash a custom ROM.
That's probably not how it's suppose to work but it's roughly what I remember.

Sorry darling that it took so long to reply!
My phone is detected by SALT (the open source program developed by steadfasterX) BUT it is doesn't want to work with LGup on a windows system because I don't have the proper .dll to work with my model type.
The LGup log file says
"LGUP can't load the model."
funny enough though the log file shows the model type right after a hex key string.
It says "LG-US996.. US99610d..."
I can get the phone into download mode but the phone doesn't have any partitions right now. So for now it's a paper weight.

every kdz has dll file, even lg up has dll file. you can extract kdz and get dll for your specific model.
use lg up patched version, search on xda, it will solve your problem.
i can not help on linux and SALT, as i dont have these. if you have access to windows machine, than i can try to sort problem for you.
