Having trouble finding anything about this on Google. I have a Verizon Edge+.
When I first got the phone, I set the screen lock type to fingerprint. Today, I set it for password. The password is all lower case, is 4 words, and has spaces in it. Now, when I try to change the screen unlock type, it says "try again". I have tried several times and am sure I'm entering the password correctly. Funny thing is, the password unlocks the phone successfully.

I put on the settings->lock-> 4 digit password last night and I was able to unlock it several times last night and during the day.
Tonight the phone rang and during the call I was typing the password and now my password does not work. I always use the same password for the device so I'm sure I have the correct one. I keep getting the "password you typed is wrong"
How do I get around it? Is there a way?
I can hard reset if I have to but I have received several text messages while trying to figure this out and if I reset I will loose them all.

Not sure you are going to like this. I had similar experience and discovered there is a password bug in the Microsoft code. It has only bitten me once, but caused me a real problem.
If you still have some tries left, do a soft re-set and wait for a few minutes after the system has booted up. Then I suggest you use the on-screen keyboard, rather than the physical one.
If all else fails, do a hard re-set yourself, rather than allowing the password system to erase your machine, as it will erase EVERYTHING, even the memory card if that is installed
Best of luck
Robert
I have SPB Mobile Shell installed, and have never had any big issues until yday. For some reason it did not want to unlock when I entered the unlock code. I am absolutely sure I entered the right code, but it said it was wrong (I am not talking about the pin, but the code for locking the keypad). I tried to do a soft reset, but I am not even able to get to the pin-code screen login, as I have to unlock the device before this. In the beginning it said the password I entered was wrong, but now nothing even happens when I press the unlock button after entering the password.
Any ideas, or do I really have to do the hard reset??
If I am correct you have to slide to unlock and then enter your 4 digit number to access the phone.
I had this issue a few weeks ago and tried every method to unlock it. The symptoms that you are describing are exactly what I had. I know that I was entering the right number but the message that came up was 'wrong pincode'.
I contacted HTC and they couldn't help me and suggested that I do a hard reset. I reluctantly had to do this and it was reset to factory settings. JUST BACK UP YOUR STUFF. All my footprints were lost. Good luck !!
Yes, thats the exact same problem as I have. Guess hard reset is the only way out.. =/ I do have all the contacts backed up in Outlook, and as far as I know the memorycard will not be deleted, so all photos etc will hopefully not be lost. But anyway quite annoying.. =/
I just bought my S5 2 days ago. I set it up with a numerical pin to unlock, to unlock a number pad would come up. All of a sudden last night it is now asking for a PASSWORD and a keyboard is coming up! I never set up a password, just the pin. I have tried entering my pin with the top number row but it is saying incorrect password. Please help! Thanks

Keep entering wrong password attempts and eventually it will ask you to reset your phone PIN by entering your gmail account info/password (the one you set up on your phone for playstore purchases.)

I have entered over 50 different combinations and every 5 times I enter the wrong one it makes me wait 30 seconds before I can make another attempt. There is no option to enter Google account info.
Turn the power off. If your Samsung Galaxy S is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
Hold the Volume Down button
Press and release the Power button
You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
Press and release the Power button
Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO
WARNING! This will wipe ALL data!

Did you manage to resolve your issue without a hard reset? I'm having the same problem.
I dont see this specific question...
I have my lock screen set as a pin
On a daily basis, it says my pin in incorrect and does not let me get into my phone.
It is the correct pin and I make several attempts to do so, to the point where I am locked out for a certain period of time.
If I restart my phone, the same exact pin works.
Is there a reason this is happening or a way of preventing this from happening?
Wild shot... but have you tried with the phone on a flat surface just in case you are touching the edges as you enter it?
Also, why not use the fingerprint lock? So much easier and just as secure as numbers.
I resetted this phone was handed off from my brother. Brother never had lock screen setup or password. Now I got it activated to my sprint account. I factory reset but the password screen keeps coming back. Could sprint set a password to lock the phone? I saw message this phone lease expired. How do I get rid of the password lock screen?

It is google locked factory reset protection. There are many guides on google on this toppic. Not really discussed much here
Maybe the password is same as your last phone.
