I have SPB Mobile Shell installed, and have never had any big issues until yday. For some reason it did not want to unlock when I entered the unlock code. I am absolutely sure I entered the right code, but it said it was wrong (I am not talking about the pin, but the code for locking the keypad). I tried to do a soft reset, but I am not even able to get to the pin-code screen login, as I have to unlock the device before this. In the beginning it said the password I entered was wrong, but now nothing even happens when I press the unlock button after entering the password.
Any ideas, or do I really have to do the hard reset??
If I am correct you have to slide to unlock and then enter your 4 digit number to access the phone.
I had this issue a few weeks ago and tried every method to unlock it. The symptoms that you are describing are exactly what I had. I know that I was entering the right number but the message that came up was 'wrong pincode'.
I contacted HTC and they couldn't help me and suggested that I do a hard reset. I reluctantly had to do this and it was reset to factory settings. JUST BACK UP YOUR STUFF. All my footprints were lost. Good luck !!
Yes, thats the exact same problem as I have. Guess hard reset is the only way out.. =/ I do have all the contacts backed up in Outlook, and as far as I know the memorycard will not be deleted, so all photos etc will hopefully not be lost. But anyway quite annoying.. =/

After coming back from real VGA, my x7500 does not want to accept my unlock code anymore. The one cached in Activesync does not work anymore either, becuase activesync now also asks for an unlock code again.
This effectively has shut me out of my X7500, and my only option now is a hard reset.
Has anyone else ever had this experience?

I experienced a similar issue. I was working with the devie and had to soft reset a few times. The last tme I got locked out of my device. My password would no longer work and i was forced to hard reset. Needless to say, I don't have a password on my device now. Was a very annoying issue. Im running WM6 withthe x7500, not CID unlocked.

Well, of course I keep daily (Sprite) backups, so no real harm done. But it was a bit of a surprise nevertheless. It indicates that the database that keeps the unlockcodes apparently continuously is in an open state or else a soft reset would not have corrupted it.
Errr I now have definite proof that there's something wrong with either the WM6 upgrade specifically or with the Power shutdown routine in general.
I just performed a hard reset, did not bother to configure anything except for the power on password/pin. After the shutdown and reboot, the pin is corrupted and entry into the machine is prohibited.
What's more, when I cleared my password on a fully configured machine and performed that same shutdown, after the reboot my mail password was gone and even my TomTom activation was gone ....... somehow something gets seriously corrupted after a shutdown.
There is definitely something wrong here. Could someone try this on a factory default WM5 machine, or even on a freshly installed WM6 machine to see where this issue comes from?

Do you experience the problem if true VGA is not used?
Hi all,
I've been reading on this wiki/forum for a few weeks and finally yesterday night I had some time to install Prophet VIII on my qtek 200. I installed all apps I had running before and it all worked well.
Now I remember reading something about the "Lock" setting, but didn't exactly remember what and couldn't find it back either. I set it to prompt for a simple pin (3412) and even set my hint to 3412 in case i'd forget. After fiddling around a bit too much, things got messy and had to reset the device. Guess what, I got the device lock prompt and it wouldn't accept my pin code.
It also didn't retain clock settings (went back to 31/08/2006 12:00AM) and some small settings i changed in the control panel either. What's causing this?
I reinstalled everything, now everything works again but I couldn't find anything about this device lock thing, so i didn't enable it for now. Doesn't this feature work in custom roms?
Thanks.
This feature doesn't work with WM6...period.....
Has nothing to do with the cooked versions, but is a glitch in the original microsoft programming.
I'm using PDAViet Mysterious 1.0 and have got the same problem on the Lock setting after a soft reset.
After entered the PIN code, nothing would happen if I click the "unlock" button. It neither unlocks the phone, nor displays a error PIN messagebox. Nothing!
Soft Reset doesn't help. Everytime it asked for the PIN code, and I cannot unlock it since the unlock button seems useless.
At last I had to do a hard reset to restore the system.
I found a unique combination when the lock seems to loose the password and wouldn't allow to access even after soft reset; however every thing seems to be working internally i.e. it receives calls; txt. But it does not synz with Outlook and unlocks.
This happens when I turn off the phone and plug it into the charger and then turn on the power.
Does anyone know any remote-registry tools that can allow to override the password.
Strange thing.. So if I went out and bought a brand new WM6 phone, the lock wouldn't work either?
I put on the settings->lock-> 4 digit password last night and I was able to unlock it several times last night and during the day.
Tonight the phone rang and during the call I was typing the password and now my password does not work. I always use the same password for the device so I'm sure I have the correct one. I keep getting the "password you typed is wrong"
How do I get around it? Is there a way?
I can hard reset if I have to but I have received several text messages while trying to figure this out and if I reset I will loose them all.

Not sure you are going to like this. I had similar experience and discovered there is a password bug in the Microsoft code. It has only bitten me once, but caused me a real problem.
If you still have some tries left, do a soft re-set and wait for a few minutes after the system has booted up. Then I suggest you use the on-screen keyboard, rather than the physical one.
If all else fails, do a hard re-set yourself, rather than allowing the password system to erase your machine, as it will erase EVERYTHING, even the memory card if that is installed
Best of luck
Robert
My wife has set an alphanumeric password for her HD. On powerup the screen shows only a numeric screen which is unlike any of the usual keyboards or phonepad so no letters can be entered. Phone will not unlock. Definitely not SIM locked, only phone is locked. Dont want to do hard reset as all photos &c are not backed up. Anyone had this?

...Sorry Pal i had this same problem last week after flashing a new rom. Looked around the internet for solution to no avail and finally had to hard reset.
Wish u Luck
And now the screen is showing an alphanumeric keyboard, but how it switched I know not and which keyboard it will show in future is anyone's guesss. Maybe safer not to password lock handset.
Hello,
Wondering if someone can help me, i have a very strange problem indeed!
I've just rest my device and when it came up with the Unlock screen to type in my unlock code (4 digits) I can press the buttons on the screen, and the code is typed in, but when I come to press any of the unlock buttons, they do the physical depress animation but it's as though they are not registering the click event.
This is on Mirri WM6.5 rom.
Any help would be appreciated, I also tried to use MyMobiler to use my mouse to try and do it, but as I last used it as Mass Storage, it won't connect as I can't get to set it as ActiveSync.
*Edit - Further update, if I dial 999, I can correctly press the cancel button, which means it's not that portion of the screen which is obscured, it's just the unlock, contacts, mail buttons that are failing to unlock the device. I receive no error messages when typing incorrect codes either.
Could it be possible a program has changed my password?
Thanks in advance folks.
D.
** HARD RESET DEVICE **
Too business critical to keep messing about, please leave comments if you have any ideas incase this happens in future.
I severely doubt your password has been changed. If you are unable to press unlock, it may be worthwhile performing a hard reset to see if this fixes your problem. Obviously backup contacts, emails etc beforehand as you should still be able to do this.
Hi,
I was unable to do anything with the device, so had to hard reset.
As the device was locked upon startup, the only thing i got was the enter device unlock code screen.
I know the changed password is a strange idea, but can't think of anything else unless my device is actually knackered... just finished hard reset now.

Any joy after hard reset?
All seems to be working perfectly now, have lost a few days of txts since my last backup, but otherwise all up and running... very strange indeed!!
Thanks for checking back
