Shaking phone makes a rattling sound, does yours? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I shake my phone, to turn on the flashlight for example, I can hear something moving around near the top speaker. Can others hear this as well? If this is normal for the phone then I can live with it, but if not, then I am thinking about returning it before my time is up.

Mine does this as well. Actually I can't remember the last phone I've had that did not rattle.

I'm probably just not use to shaking my phones, I just do this one for the flashlight gesture.

You sure that's not the vibration that comes on before and after the flashlight is activated? To answer your original question, mine doesn't.

I'm shaking mine right now and something is rattling in the phone. No case/bumper right now, so its the phone itself.

It's the camera that's rattling, which is perfectly normal. Every phone that has adjustable focusing rattles when you shake it.

yup, the camera rattles. it's like that on every phone I've had, except those with OIS.

[Q] Weird rattling noise when tapping top bottom of phone

EDIT: I found a thread about this same issue leading me to believe it's not an issue in the first place. Still, the thread seems to be more about this occurring when shaking the phone so it could be it's own thing...
Sorry if this has been covered already but I couldn't find any threads that addressed this particular issue.
When holding my N4 with the back facing downward and tapping the top bottom, there is a light rattle as if something were loose. There is no rattle if tapped elsewhere or if the phone is placed with the front facing downward.
I thought it might be the volume rocker, but holding that in place doesn't make a difference.
Anyone have anything like this? You might need to listen closely.

You know what? Just notice that too. I hold both buttons down and still hear a rattle. I think its the vibration motor or the camera optics since the noise is coming from the top of the screen.
Yes, the general consensus is that it's part of the camera that rattles

No. Almost every single phone on the market does this (the Nexus 4's might be more audible though, I don't know. Either way, it's not going to change by getting a different one)
I wonder if there is a way to diy fix it?
Its the continuous focus mechanism in the camera. All phones with continuous focus make some rattle.

Yours makes a rattle sound too I'm guessing?
Yes, I'm sure they all do

Oh well, I'm getting a replacement. Its annoying that it does this. Other users who have this phone say theirs doesn't make this sound. Plus, my gnex never rattled nor does my friends GS3. My screen might be not as sensitive or colors might be washed out. Those things don't bother me, but this just makes it sound like something is loose inside. If the replacement is like that too, then I guess I'll have to settle.

Tinkering sound when you shake it

I requested an RMA because of the buzzing noise near the earpiece and the sound of something loose when you shake the phone, but the RMA came with the same problems. Is this happening with everyone's phone? It's a bit unnerving..
My phone has both a slight buzzing and the shaking sound. The buzzing is so quiet I have to be smashing the phone against my ear to heart it. The shaking I believe one of the components of the camera. I believe the majority of the people here have the shaking "problem".

Thanks for the reply. Good to know.
I think it's the accelerometer that do this noise, my N4 do the same noise as well.

My sound is perfect. I do have a little rattle if I smack it gently with the palm of my hand. I don't do that much. No worries about it though for me.
I have a slight buzz if I hold it up to my ear, but never notice it otherwise. I think it rattles a bit also. Oh well, love it.
The rattle is the auto focus. it is not a defect
Treat your Nexus like a baby. Don't shake it.
I have earpiece sound as well as the sound of the camera-focus when I shake it. But I'm not going to RMA this as long as it does not harm my phone.
this is normal in all do not worry nexus
I'm pretty sure the shaking sound is actually the ejection mechanism for the SIM card. There was a post about it here somewhere.

No, that's actually the first thing I checked. The sound comes from the camera. At least in my case, maybe some people have different. Whatever, I'm gonna use for a few days and see if that bothers me.
Its the camera every phone I have does this.

This is true, my iPhone 5 and LG Optimus G both rattled the same way as my nexus 4.
Not trying to sound mean, but use the search feature next time. There are already mulitple posts and I think 2 threads about this exact problem. Just a hint for future problems. Chances are, whatever problem you have has already been discussed.
Why do u shake ur phone ?

[Q] Verizon G2 Rattles When Shaken: Problem?

My G2 makes a rattling sound when shaken, but only in certain situations. When holding my phone normally, with the screen facing me, and shake the device away from and towards myself, I don't hear anything. However if shaken up-down or side-side, I hear a plastic, rattling noise that seems to come from around the camera. Is this normal, or do I have something to be concerned about? I keep pressure on all buttons, and even the SIM card tray, and still hear it.
Broken or loose IOS?

Thats what I was afraid of. Is there any way to verify whether or not that's the issue?
Ive noticed this as well. I've also noticed a vibration from the earpiece area while talking on the phone. The top of the phone resonates if I thump it. :-/

No, I've just learned to live with it, I would like to RMA it, but I certainly don't want to PAY to RMA it, which I'm guessing would be the end result. I'm fairly sure it has to do with the OIS, because my camera seems MUCH more sensitive to movement when taking pics now. I wish I had another G2 available to take some comparison photos with to try and verify it
Mine does it. (D802, not Verizon)
Looked in the mirror, was the camera shaking (not much)
Guess it's because it's loose when not in use. It can move afterall since this phone has physical camera stabilization.
Even my expensive Nikon says this rattling noise. Tbh I see no problem.

I hear something loose inside the phone? Anyone else?

So I've just put the phone down on my desk(I use a giant 4ftx2ft desktop mouse pad) and heard an odd sound. I didn't just throw the phone on the desk but probably dropped it onto the desk from an inch away. Anyway, upon further investigation, it sounds like there' something loose inside the phone, possibly in the upper half near the camera. I took my phone and shook it up and down near my ear. Wondering if this is normal and does anyone else hear the same thing?
Could be the camera. OIS means there's actually moving parts in the mechanism. Typically if you shake phones with OIS you here a slight ticking.

That's true. But, it just bugs me a bit because I didn't hear anything like this on my old Note 7. Or any other phone.

Ok, I just shook my phone and I can hear the rattling too. My OCD senses are now tingling!
I'm not going to worry about it too much though. I haven't dropped my phone or anything, and it's working fine. I'm sure there will be times though when I've forgotten about it, then suddenly hear it if I shake my phone. Will probably be surprised, but will then remember what it is. Lol

I shake my phone and i hear nothing. . Hmmm, you guys could try by opening it and see whether you can find the issue. It is very easy to open it and close it again. And i doubt any carrier will notice it. or... If you guys are in the 14 days period to return the phone (if tmobile, im not sure about other carriers) then you might replace it

Hahaha ok, cool! Now I feel better knowing it's not just me  And yes, my phone is working perfectly so I'm not worried about it. (but lets be honest here and say that it would've been nice if there was no rattle!)

Oh yeah, for sure! I mean, a rattling noise normally means that something is broken! LG should probably have put a notice on the manual or something mentioning this. You know, for all of us who care for our phones.
If it is the ois it will stop if you have the camera app open. Mine also has the rattle but I believe it is likely the vibration feedback motor or weight causing it. I had two lg v10 loaner phones. One made noise one didn't.

I can confirm that it is the camera module. I opened up my device and poked around inside. The camera module furthest from the led flash floats.

Does anyone's phone rattle when you shake it?

Does anyone's phone rattle when you shake it? I just noticed it this morning when picked it up off my desk.
No rattles here. Case or naked?

Like how bad? Probably coming from the camera since it has stabilization

That's normal, it's the some type of floating camera sensor, you have to shake it pretty hard though to hear it. S6, S7 both do it also.

Very tiny rattle, from camera area. Kind of expected, with OIS.
Mine doesn't...My note7 did though a little.
Thanks for the replies!
Hello every one . I have a samsung s8+ and while shaking i hear a ckliking sound . Is it normal ?
Completely normal, it is the auto stabilization part in the camera.
Give this a try (have the double tap power button to launch camera enabled first):
Shake your phone and listen for the rattling.
Continue to shake while pressing the power button twice to launch the camera
You should now hear that it's significantly quieter (front camera does not have the stabilizing feature that the rear camera does, so that's what you should hear when the camera is on).
I have huawei p30 pro and it rattles when i put it in bed or when i shake it. The rattle did not stop even when i turn on the camera. I think is the OIS from camera but still is weird...
