[Q] Verizon G2 Rattles When Shaken: Problem? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My G2 makes a rattling sound when shaken, but only in certain situations. When holding my phone normally, with the screen facing me, and shake the device away from and towards myself, I don't hear anything. However if shaken up-down or side-side, I hear a plastic, rattling noise that seems to come from around the camera. Is this normal, or do I have something to be concerned about? I keep pressure on all buttons, and even the SIM card tray, and still hear it.

Broken or loose IOS?

Thats what I was afraid of. Is there any way to verify whether or not that's the issue?

Ive noticed this as well. I've also noticed a vibration from the earpiece area while talking on the phone. The top of the phone resonates if I thump it. :-/

No, I've just learned to live with it, I would like to RMA it, but I certainly don't want to PAY to RMA it, which I'm guessing would be the end result. I'm fairly sure it has to do with the OIS, because my camera seems MUCH more sensitive to movement when taking pics now. I wish I had another G2 available to take some comparison photos with to try and verify it

Mine does it. (D802, not Verizon)
Looked in the mirror, was the camera shaking (not much)
Guess it's because it's loose when not in use. It can move afterall since this phone has physical camera stabilization.
Even my expensive Nikon says this rattling noise. Tbh I see no problem.

Camera Area Rattle?

i don't know if any of you guys are having this problem, but i hear a really annoying rattle around the camera area of the phone. every time i set my phone down somewhere i hear a rattle, and it is very annoying. i wanted to know where it was coming from so i shook the phone next to my ear, it is definitely coming from the camera area. anyone else having this problem? is there an easy fix?
also interested in this. If I tap my battery cover near the camera, there is a distinct rattle.
Pretty sure this has been posted already but, It's the lens for the autofocus. It's nothing you need to worry about.
it's extremely annoying! ughgh. but i love this phone. lol
It doesn't happen to my phone.. Im not so sure this our supposed to happen to anyone.

Tap round the top of the phone, you'll hear it... it's the spring in the auto-focus mech.

Thats weird, mine is so very faint - it sounds as if I'm tapping anywhere on the phone, even with hard taps. Is it because I don't use my camera much?

maybe your camera is defective coz mine rattles also! LOL
This is part of the auto-focus mechanism. Every phone with autofocus does this. In short: deal with it. It's not broken.
search guys c'mon... this has been posted at least three times

[Q] Weird rattling noise when tapping top bottom of phone

EDIT: I found a thread about this same issue leading me to believe it's not an issue in the first place. Still, the thread seems to be more about this occurring when shaking the phone so it could be it's own thing...
Sorry if this has been covered already but I couldn't find any threads that addressed this particular issue.
When holding my N4 with the back facing downward and tapping the top bottom, there is a light rattle as if something were loose. There is no rattle if tapped elsewhere or if the phone is placed with the front facing downward.
I thought it might be the volume rocker, but holding that in place doesn't make a difference.
Anyone have anything like this? You might need to listen closely.

You know what? Just notice that too. I hold both buttons down and still hear a rattle. I think its the vibration motor or the camera optics since the noise is coming from the top of the screen.
Yes, the general consensus is that it's part of the camera that rattles

No. Almost every single phone on the market does this (the Nexus 4's might be more audible though, I don't know. Either way, it's not going to change by getting a different one)
I wonder if there is a way to diy fix it?
Its the continuous focus mechanism in the camera. All phones with continuous focus make some rattle.

Yours makes a rattle sound too I'm guessing?
Yes, I'm sure they all do

Oh well, I'm getting a replacement. Its annoying that it does this. Other users who have this phone say theirs doesn't make this sound. Plus, my gnex never rattled nor does my friends GS3. My screen might be not as sensitive or colors might be washed out. Those things don't bother me, but this just makes it sound like something is loose inside. If the replacement is like that too, then I guess I'll have to settle.

[Q] Phone ratting...

Lovely phone. Lovely lovely lovely.
The thing is, if one rotates the phone in your hand so the rear of it is facing you and gently tap in the top left of he case, I hear a small rattle, almost like something is not seated properly or someone's not tightened a screw up.
Anyone else got this? Funnily enough I'm not too fussed about sending it back because in the past (with my Nexus 7) they've been very quick.
I have it too. But it's not too loud. If it happens when I shake the phone too much. I hardly notice it now.

Camera focus is what it's said to be. They all have it to some degree (including non-nexus phones).
Interesting, and thanks for replying!
The chap on the end of the phone at Google Play Support said there was a known issue with a rattle nearby the sim tray but this was "new to him". He's arranging an RMA so if the replacement has the same problem I'll just have to lump it - until the GoogleMotorolaNexus comes out
someone else might have asked,
Maybe?

It's common to all n4 phones. Your replacment will do this too. Hope that helps.
Hahahaha awesome collection of threads. You're probably correct. My first thought was the gyroscope for some reason. Anywho...
The rattle that a lot of people have is not the camera focus,it is much louder and much easier to recreate. It is a part of the sim card ejector, if you take it out and look, you can see it move with the rattle.

Dropped G2 on asphalt in Silicon case 1.2 metter drop.. worry?

Question,
My G2 today dropped in silicon flip case on it's back (thanks god, as it was with flip open).
Drop was from about 1.2-1.5 metters....
Phone kept working after the drop..
Anything to worry about it's internals? or from such drop nothing should happen?
Its flip case with basic silicon cover while its back is silicon cover + the flip plate.
GOOSPERY case:

Thoughts?
Thanks!
The screen will USUALLY break before interments break... So if it's all working, don't worry

If you hear strange rattling noises coming from your phone a little while from now, it may indicate that the OIS module has come loose.
But otherwise, you should be absolutely fine.

No strange noise... whats chance for ois loose from a fall down?
Tnx
I got a replacement phone from ATT and it must have had a bad OIS because that thing clicked and clicked when trying to focus and would never actually gain focus, needless to say I didn't accept it.

LG really didnt pass G2 via intensive Quality Check Control and Stress Test...?
Isnt "World's Best Phone" should go via this procedure?

I hear something loose inside the phone? Anyone else?

So I've just put the phone down on my desk(I use a giant 4ftx2ft desktop mouse pad) and heard an odd sound. I didn't just throw the phone on the desk but probably dropped it onto the desk from an inch away. Anyway, upon further investigation, it sounds like there' something loose inside the phone, possibly in the upper half near the camera. I took my phone and shook it up and down near my ear. Wondering if this is normal and does anyone else hear the same thing?
Could be the camera. OIS means there's actually moving parts in the mechanism. Typically if you shake phones with OIS you here a slight ticking.

That's true. But, it just bugs me a bit because I didn't hear anything like this on my old Note 7. Or any other phone.

Ok, I just shook my phone and I can hear the rattling too. My OCD senses are now tingling!
I'm not going to worry about it too much though. I haven't dropped my phone or anything, and it's working fine. I'm sure there will be times though when I've forgotten about it, then suddenly hear it if I shake my phone. Will probably be surprised, but will then remember what it is. Lol

I shake my phone and i hear nothing. . Hmmm, you guys could try by opening it and see whether you can find the issue. It is very easy to open it and close it again. And i doubt any carrier will notice it. or... If you guys are in the 14 days period to return the phone (if tmobile, im not sure about other carriers) then you might replace it

Hahaha ok, cool! Now I feel better knowing it's not just me  And yes, my phone is working perfectly so I'm not worried about it. (but lets be honest here and say that it would've been nice if there was no rattle!)

Oh yeah, for sure! I mean, a rattling noise normally means that something is broken! LG should probably have put a notice on the manual or something mentioning this. You know, for all of us who care for our phones.
If it is the ois it will stop if you have the camera app open. Mine also has the rattle but I believe it is likely the vibration feedback motor or weight causing it. I had two lg v10 loaner phones. One made noise one didn't.

Could it be that rotating vibration mechanism?

I can confirm that it is the camera module. I opened up my device and poked around inside. The camera module furthest from the led flash floats.
