Does anyone's phone rattle when you shake it? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Does anyone's phone rattle when you shake it? I just noticed it this morning when picked it up off my desk.

No rattles here. Case or naked?

Like how bad? Probably coming from the camera since it has stabilization

Naked. I guess I'll be exchanging it tomorrow.

That's normal, it's the some type of floating camera sensor, you have to shake it pretty hard though to hear it. S6, S7 both do it also.

Very tiny rattle, from camera area. Kind of expected, with OIS.

Mine doesn't...My note7 did though a little.

Thanks for the replies!

Hello every one . I have a samsung s8+ and while shaking i hear a ckliking sound . Is it normal ?

Completely normal, it is the auto stabilization part in the camera.

Give this a try (have the double tap power button to launch camera enabled first):
Shake your phone and listen for the rattling.
Continue to shake while pressing the power button twice to launch the camera
You should now hear that it's significantly quieter (front camera does not have the stabilizing feature that the rear camera does, so that's what you should hear when the camera is on).

I have huawei p30 pro and it rattles when i put it in bed or when i shake it. The rattle did not stop even when i turn on the camera. I think is the OIS from camera but still is weird...

The Moto G "rattle"

Got one today and if you give it a little shake it rattles like a childs toy
Also no 3 pin plug or earphones in the box just a usb cable
The rattle is amazing though :good:
Mine did rattle very bad too ending up sticking a thin bit of paper between the power button and the case. Rattle is no more quick temp solution really.
That doesn't sound good

I've heard a tiny rattle from all of my recent phones (incl. HTC 8X, and iPhone 5). This Moto G doesn't sound any different to me.
My is steady like a rock...

Google it? just kidding, rattle is basically when you shake some object and you can hear the pieces inside of it bouncing and making noise likes a kid's toy.

This is not done... rattling means something loose from inside...

I thought the handset was defective and something inside was defective and rattling about
However , it is just the power and volume rocker buttons what rattle when you shake the phone.
Very peculiar when i first heard it but for the price i paid £99 its not really a problem . Keeps my young baby occupied aswell

Funny thing is that I could hear when tapping on the screen. Annoying!
I've just bought mine "Colors 16GB Dual sin addition" and hearing all of this reports from you guys makes me concern and kind of scary either.
Will my handset come with this annoyance as well? Err I hope it doesn't '-'
Probably.

I'm more concerned about the Metallring around the Camera then of the Sound the Camera does. I have this Sound too, but i dont care much about it. Some Cams are doing it.
Make a Video with the flash as light or use a Heatrate Monitor where you have to put your finger onto the cam, the Ring gets really Hot after a very short Time...even the Ledflash does.
No rattle here on new tesco 16gb moto g
This is just due to production tolerances on the buttons and body. If they only accepted builds which didn't rattle a little, the price would go up. You could most definitely fix it with a little bit of paper if you want. I'd rather have a percentage of them rattle than be too tight and have button problems.
Mine does rattle a bit on the buttons, but not a huge deal. Thinking of getting the motorola grip shell that covers the buttons, maybe it gets better.
Anyway, what is annoying me a bit is the camera on/off sound. Its noticeable when you enter the camera app and even louder whem exiting. I have a friend with a moto g too and it does the same. Is it general?

My phone finally made it here and it rattles way more than the actual kid's toy '-'
I've had the chance to use three different Moto G phones and the power button rattles somewhat in all. They all also exhibit the weird clicking noise when turning the camera on/off.

Shaking phone makes a rattling sound, does yours?

When I shake my phone, to turn on the flashlight for example, I can hear something moving around near the top speaker. Can others hear this as well? If this is normal for the phone then I can live with it, but if not, then I am thinking about returning it before my time is up.
Mine does this as well. Actually I can't remember the last phone I've had that did not rattle.

I'm probably just not use to shaking my phones, I just do this one for the flashlight gesture.
You sure that's not the vibration that comes on before and after the flashlight is activated? To answer your original question, mine doesn't.

I'm shaking mine right now and something is rattling in the phone. No case/bumper right now, so its the phone itself.
It's the camera that's rattling, which is perfectly normal. Every phone that has adjustable focusing rattles when you shake it.
Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk
yup, the camera rattles. it's like that on every phone I've had, except those with OIS.

Shake your s7

If you shake your s7 is something rattling?
No
Yeah, it's the home button. If you shake while applying just a bit of pressure to it, the rattle goes away. Totally normal.
EDIT: I take that back. I don't think it's the button, but I do hear a very slight rattle. I'm still not concerned though.
I hear..... nothing
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
I don't have mine yet but my s6 does that...its probably the components of the ois in the camera. Try turning the camera on and give it a shake and see if the sound goes away.
Nothing shaking here.
I hear my head rattling not the phone ?
My S5 (the phone I'm on right now while I wait for my S7 edge) has always had a rattle that sounds like it is coming from the camera. It's never seemed to present any other issues but I suppose it could be camera related.

Pnda is correct. The OIS is rattling. Which is normal
Same here, is ois!!! I was scared the first day i got the phone, so i went to samsung store and shake all the live demo units to be sure it´s normal, so don't worry.
OIS. This also causes the camera lens to be off center most of the time.
It's the loose motherboard
Sent from my SM-N920W8 using Tapatalk
I would agree with most people here saying it's the ois, but it sounds exactly like the rattle my work issued pedometer makes when I used to shake it to fake steps... I've had the note 2, s4, s5, s6 edge, and now awaiting my s7 edge. I've noticed that from the s5 on these phones had that rattle.
Note 4 hear does exactly the same the i open the camera app and gone. Never noticed it before lol. My wife just sat there looking at me funny tho.

*Nevermind*
To be sure it's OIS, just turn on your camera and then shake your phone. You should not hear any noise.
Cheers.
Guys i was in a concert last night and all my videos are shaky. The music was making the stupid s7 edge camera shake! What should i do?

Weird sound of out camera

When I launch the camera, phone shakes a tiny bit and at the same moment I can hear a shrieking sound, like something breaking. It doesnt affect the performance, but it wasnt here when I bought the phone. Anything to worry about?
Camera rotor is broken, send it for repair.
I have the same issue where any app that uses the camera, it seems the ois goes crazy. Seems more of a software thing. When I was in LOS, it didn't do it. Went back to mifavor and it started doing it again. I'm not even going to bother sending it in as I unlocked my bootloader. I've jumped on the S8 also

Weird noise when shaking the G5 Plus. Can you guys also try it?

Hey guys, I just got the phone today. Usually the first thing I do is to shake the phone to see if there is any unexpected noise.
UNFORTUNATELY ... It has. The way I shake it is to hold the bottom half and use the top half like a fan. It sounds like a plastic piece that keeps bumping.
Then I tried to hold some parts tight, but the noise was still there. I wasn't able to find the cause.
Any ideas? Thanks! If it's common I will keep the phone, otherwise I'm gonna return the phone before it's too late.

Thanks for the reply. I just powered off, removed the tray with SIM and SD, and shaked again. The sound is still there.
I guess this is due to bad assembly of budget phones ... Did some search and found that maybe the sound is from the camera's OIS module. Unfortunately G5+ doesn't have OIS ...

OK. I think it is the camera module.
The original sound is harsh (just like plastics bumping into each other) , but when I turn on the camera and shake again, the sound is smoother.
So the phone is working as it should but for some reason a person wants to shake it?
It's probably the camera module..try shaking it while the cameras on and see if it still makes that sound.
But really shaking a phone is pretty dumb.

Me to. But to the OP... I do hear a very faint clicking sound when I shake it. As long as your's is faint, I think you're just fine.

From my point of view the build quality is spot on. At least as good as my m8 never had a physical issue.

Thanks guys for the feedback. Maybe I will file the return in a couple of two days ... My previous phone is a Moto X Pure that started random clicking right after the 15-month warranty expired ...
Maybe it's time to abandon moto ...

Yes the clicking sound ... When I turn on the camera (by twisting it), that clicking sound is fainter.

Same thing here. It is the loose volume buttons (not really loose). Just hold them and shake it, no sound.
Try again without SIM tray... Definitely the crackle is louder with it.
Removing it, only left camera module noise, but you should be exaggerating the shake

Thanks, just turned it off, removed the sim tray, held both the volume buttons tight, and slightly shook again, the sound was still there. I'm filing a replacement from amazon.
I just received the replacement. Still have sound, but smaller. I think I'll just keep this one.

exactly what i was going to say
if you quickly tap on volume button(in my case volume down) without cover or case you would get thet noise
i can clearly listen and feel the button being loose and so it also happens on shaking phone
Also got that sound. :/ With camera on its really faint.
Only on XDA, people are shaking phones like idiots.
