Where exactly is the NFC chip in the device? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been using NFC with success. But I'm not certain exactly where the NFC chip is. I've just been sliding the device on NFC readers till it works . Has anyone found a graphic, that shows where the NFC chip is at?

Email the people at ifixit. They're probably in the process of tearing one of these apart.

It's actually not a "chip" but an antennae.
It's probably located somewhere central in the back.

Yea, I know it is somewhere around there. I have been using it. But I would like to know exactly where. This is something usually mentioned by some reviewers or even the OEM. Via a graphic showing exactly where it is.

This thread has the teardown video below.
I'm still not sure where the NFC is at. The thing to the lower right of the accent is a connector.

Modding my i9023 to have induction charging. Need......

'Sup XDA. I've been dying to get induction charging on my Nexus S since I got a Touchpad. Even found someone who did it over at androidcentral. Have all the parts.
I know full well that I am completely responsible for any screw-up I happen to do.
Now that that's out of the way, I just need to figure out which pins to solder to. HERE is the teardown and just wanted pointed out which pins I should take the soldering iron to. Any help appreciated.

He didn't take pics the first time around and said he didn't want to open it up to take pics. I just need to figure out which points to solder to. I have everything already here.
Here is one someone did (with video) to their Galaxy S. Looks clean!! I would love to do this mod.

Can we get by with soldering only one wire in the Nexus S as well? Provide 0V using the sim card tray?

wish I would have kept the back from my palm pre, I do still have a couple touchstones though. Might be cool to put an NFC tag in the touchstone to launch the dock mode. Might do this if I am feeling adventurous one day.

Can you just program any passive tag for that? Should just be a step of sticking it on right?
Wow, this looks awesome.
But if I understood correctly the problem, the NFC antenna must always remain between the inductive antenna and the battery. I haven't tried, but it seems that the NFC antenna can be simply removed. Wouldn't the inductive antenna fit between the NFC antenna and the case? That way it would all fit inside, leaving the awesome exterior untouched.

There's a risk that the antenna would have 5V running through it and consequently through the NFC radio/parts, etc. if you keep the coil inside the case behind the NFC tag.

I think so. I havn't messed around with an NFC task launcher, but I remember reading a thread where people were using an NFC tag to launch car mode when placed into a car dock. Should just need to buy a tag and set it up with an NFC launcher.

[Q] Mystery Part?

I purchased a used MyTouch 4G that had been dropped and has a cracked digitizer. While disassembling the phone, I came upon a small, clear plastic piece that was lying loose inside. I've looked at a number of disassembly videos, but I don't see this part showing up in any of the videos. I've attached two photos of the part (on top of the phone battery, for reference). The white part on it is a bit of adhesive.
Can anyone help identify this part and where it belongs in the MyTouch 4G?
that looks like it can probably be some thing that goes over one of the lenses. or maybe not for the mt4g at all but for a device that uses a trackball.

Yeah, I think it looks like something that would involve the camera, flash, or light sensor but I can't see where it would fit.
Anyone seen this part during their 4G disassembly?
I've seen that part. I just took one apart last weekend. The same part was in mine, broken into 3 pieces. I have no idea what it was supposed to be doing.
That sort of looks like a spacer of some kind. Maybe something to do with the proximity sensor or the microphone. Not sure exactly what it's purpose is
It doesn't seem like a critical part, but I'd sure like to know where it goes. The size of it seems to preclude it from being mounted along the edge, and there just isn't enough room around the front camera or light sensor for it to fit.
I wish there was a complete part breakdown for this phone. Anyone have their MT4G apart now that could verify this part?
think its a stabilizer for camera..keeps in check

I looked at a number of web sites, no one sells the part. And looked at repair videos, never saw that part in any of them. I repaired the phone (new digitizer and keypad) and reassembled without the part, everything works great.
Stuck the mystery part in a bag, maybe someday it will find its home

Sorry to bump such an old thread...
I recently replaced the rear camera in my wife's myTouch 4G and came upon this same part (broken in two, mind you). The part is a baffle/diffuser of some sort. It goes behind the white flash/torch LED.
Mystery solved...18+ months later.

Smart Cover Feature?

Rumor has it that the Nexus 7 features a 'Smart-Cover'-like feature. Can anyone who went to the I/O verify that?

I'm interested as well. But it appears the OEM cover doesn't have magnets built in.
Oh and pleaseee don't tell me Apple has a patent on this. It was around even before the iPad came out...
There is a video verifying it. As far as cases taking advantage of it as of now I'm not really sure. And this was around way before the iPad so they can't do anything about it. Then again I've thought that about a lot of things they've sued over...

Please look at the accessories forum. .. I posted an email from blurex stating that they will be using the "smart cover" feature.

Noob question: Wouldn't having a magnet in a case/cover for the N7 cause some interference on the proper operation of the Magnetometer, E-Compass and/or the GPS sensors?

I doubt it, otherwise apple wouldn't have put it in the iPad (I'm pretty sure iPads have magnetometers) and it definitely wouldn't affect the GPS

Tablet Wifi Unit

How can I locate the Wifi Unit in any tablet computer if it is integrated into the circuit board? What should I look for e.g. any particular type of chip?
Also is it possible to physically disable(not by software) the Wifi Unit by e.g. short circuiting it or taking out one of its components?
It usually has a metal shielding
see some examples on google
https://www.google.com.au/search?q=...m=93&espv=210&q=wifi+module&safe=off&tbm=isch
You could try damaging parts of it reallyy carefully, but i dont recommend it.
I think Android and hardware relations are modular so if one part vanishes such as camera it just greys it out. but dont quote me on that.
can I ask why?

I have seen one tablet where there is no visible shielding. Are there any other clues I can look for to find the Wifi unit?

Is there any particular part I could try?
For example, could I try to take the chip out, or cut a few of the chip connections to the circuit board?
It is for work, which does not allow any internet devices.

maybe with some research you can find the official assistance centre blueprints where you can easily find what chip is

Sorry for the delay, I've been away.
I've not bought one yet, as I'm waiting to find one which I can modify.
But I'm looking in the lower budget range of tablets such as the Nook HD 7",etc. So if you know of any please let me know?

Galaxy S4 IR blaster very short range

Recently bought an S4 I9505 and was testing out its IR blaster and it seems to have a very short range i.e hardly 3 ft for me, I tested it out with both samsung LG TVs and it also needs to be angled directly infront of the power buttons of the TV (which is where the receiver is located I gusss) to function. Why is that so cause my friend also has an s4 and it had a pretty good range of about 6-8 ft
P.S checked for any protective sheets on the blaster but didnt found any and I have tried with both Anymote universal app and peel remote app if it helps
Thanks in advance
Maybe there's dirt on the IR blaster or under the IR blaster glass.

Your problem doesn't appear to be software related. And, unless you want to go about flashing a bunch of ROMs to see if the blaster will somehow start working properly, I guess cleaning the blaster lens is the best solution.
If dirt can get under the glass and into the proximity sensor, then why can't that happen to the IR blaster? After all, the phone is not airtight, it's not even waterproof.
but still it shouldn't be dirty in a new set should it?
And are you sure it isn't software related?

You did not mention it was new. But even so, it might not be completely new. I think Samsung stopped producing the S4, so any "new" S4 you might find are refurbished most probably.
You can go about changing ROMs if you're really keen on it.
I opened it and cleaned it (didnt seemed to be much of dirt though) and still very short range.
P.S It's not refurbished
P.S I read on some forums that some people also had a troubling IR blaster after rooting the phone, are there any odds for it as I have also rooted it
