6p or 5x - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Nexus 5 (2013), before more of the specs came out, i was adament that within 3-4 months i would upgrade to the N52015.
Looking at the specs, i am kinda disappointed. Is the 6p going to be smaller than the current Nexus 6? or the same size?
The 6p looks like the phone to get, in terms of an upgrade to the current N5.

The 6p is more equal to the note 5 in size. It will be easier to hold than the nexus 6

Not really..... It's longer than the n6..... Barely, but it's 5mm narrower... With a smaller screen

nexus 5 owner here and planning to upgrade to the 6P once google finally decides to put up preorders here in germany....ugh hate the waiting game...

Do you think the bezel sizes are a little much on the new nexus'? I've been trying to read around but cannot find much talk on the subject of "bezels". My 6 is the same length but has .26" of a bigger screen. I have the 6p ordered but not sure what to think.

i think the bezels are appropriate for the size. the 6 is unwieldy wide and i'm anticipating the 6P to be super comfortable in the hand.

Yep, this badboy should feel super handling it!

Screen-to-Body Ratio
I'd like to bring this topic back up now that we have some prior 6 users with the 6p in hand.
It does feel nice in hand but the thought of a longer phone with .3 inch smaller screen.
What do you think?
6 - 74.03 %
6p - 71.60 %

Have you gotten used to the size of your ONE?

After almost a year of using my ONE, I don't think I'll be able to go back to phones smaller than a 5.5 inch screen. At first when I got my phone, I found it to be too big for my smallish hands but I got used to it quickly. Now if I were to upgrade to another phone, I think I would consider the size of Samsung Note or even Google Nexus 6 being my ABSOLUTE limit.
How about you? Is 5.5 inches your limit? Are you looking to downsize or get a phone with a bigger screen?

Man, I picked up my galaxy nexus and my nexus 4 today while cleaning my office and was blown away at how small the screen is! When I got those I thought they were big!
I think I will try to stick work about this size but who knows. Six inches may become my new normal if I buy a six inch phone.

Yea, I was helping someone with their Samsung Galaxy 4 phone and during that whole time I was wishing the screen was bigger .
Android is Always About New Opportunities and I'll always be interested with whatever is to come
I don't think I would want to go bigger than 5.5, it's nice having a big screen but a bit pointless to go to 6", especially for me as I have a 7" tablet. I think anywhere between 5-5.5 is the sweet spot, probably 5.2.
LOL, I know what you mean. Everytime I pickup my GF's S4, I can't believe how small it is. I don't remember it being that small when I was using it. That said, I don't think I'd want to go much bigger than 5.5". Maybe 6", but I'm not sure. That's one of the thinks I love about Android though, there is always someone willing to try something to see how it works in the market so we can push the boundaries and experiment.
Yeah, even My Nexus 4 feels so tiny. I picked up my Nokia E52 from the abyss of my bag and bam, it was microscopic Fascination how technology changes so fast.
Well, i look down at my friends iPhone 4's and ask if it's a toy.
I've got used to it very quickly. After a couple of weeks I've noticed how small my Xperia Z was. Bigger screens are just much better for reading
I love the screen size now. Had a S3 Mini before and it now feels tiny.
Finally i am able to read ebooks properly on my phone!
But i think that the screen size of the Nexus 6 would be my absolute maximum, not bigger than that.
The only thing that i would like to see is some progress in the stock launcher/Google launcher.
As Screens get bigger i think gesturres are even more important. For example Nova/Apex launcher, swipe down on screen and open Notifications.
Why isnt this implemented in stock launcher?
Big screens are addictive, I had an og droid and liked it, then got a galaxy nexus and thought it was the perfect sized screen, then got a droid maxx and thought 5' was actually perfect, now I have a one plus and of course 5.5 is perfect. I see a trend emerging. No freakishly large hands are required. Just about an hour of practice.

I enjoy the screen size when using the phone, but I still find the phone too big for carrying around. I have my M7 here and, while it would benefit from a slightly bigger screen, it feels so much better in the hand and doesn't take up nearly as much space in the pocket.
I'm enjoying my OPO, but would probably prefer a 5" phone, with minimal bezels, for use on the go and have a 7-8" tablet at home/office.

Or keep the 5.5 screen with smaller top and bottom bezels. That is one of my issues with the phone. It could have been great with those bezels smaller. I still love this phone though.

Afraid of how big this phone will actually be

I ordered the Nexus 6P for the price and the premium build and the better specs. I have never used a phablet before. I am really anxious of how big this phone will be in actual day to day use. The hands-on videos and the Google event doesn't really show me how big the phone actually is.
Anyone else in the same boat and pulled the trigger on the 6P because of better specs?

It's pretty much identical in height and size to an iPhone 6 plus.... Go to a store and check that out to get a feel for the size
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
Having gone from a note 4 to iPhone 6+ (almost identical dimensions to 6p) I can tell you that it's not a big deal. Unless you've been using phones like the z3 compact then it'll be no big deal.
If you want to get a feel for the size, weight, and thickness go pickup an iphone 6+... I'm not joking, it's insane how close they are.
iphone: 158.1 x 77.8 x 7.1mm (6.22 x 3.06 x 0.28in) and 172g (6.07oz)
nexus 6p: 159.3 x 77.8 x 7.3 mm (6.27 x 3.06 x 0.29 inches) and 178g (6.28oz)

I am planning on it. I made a little mockup in paint for the dimensions. Drew out a rectangle and tried to feel it in the hand and it feels huge. I guess it will be more compact because of the design and the curves on the side and the back but still a little anxious.

My wife is 5'1" and has a Nexus 6; she has really tiny hands and thinks the phone is small. Her and I are both a little disappointed that they dropped to a 5.7" screen but its still better than a tiny 5.5" one.
The first phablet I bought was a note 2. The first few days my hand cramped up using it. I thought I made a mistake. Now I can't go back I've had the note 2 3 4 and now 6p.

Seems from what I am hearing from everyone, your mind will just get used to it. The wait till November 4th is also making me anxious! This is the worst feeling ever! I am going to check out an iPhone 6+ just to see how it feels in the hand. Never owned a Phablet before but I really don't want to get the Nexus 5X since the 6P is more premium and better specs wise for only $70 more.
Google should not have gimped the 5X.

I have a Nvdia shield but its source too big to easily use one handed. I used to use my Nexus 7 (2013) one handed all of the time while walking around campus. I can settle for the 5.7" display becuase they have a huge battery in the phone
My first phablet was the Note 2. When i first got it the damn thing felt huge. I kept saying "damn this is so big I'm not sure I can carry it around all the time".
I used it for about a day and after that I couldn't go back to a smaller device. Now anything under 5.5 inches screen size isn't on the table for me.
If you use your phone a lot the larger screen size is amazing from a usability standpoint.
It's not the size of your pencil that counts, it's how you sign your name.

Nexus 5X, 6X, 5P or 6P

Curious what people favor if they had the choice:
5X = convenient size with mid-range specs, plastic build, against a competitive price
6X = phablet with mid-range specs, plastic build, against a competitive price
5P = convenient size with premium specs and build, against a slightly higher price point
6P = phablet with premium specs and build, against a slightly higher price point
6p....
I really don't know since I haven't tried a "phablet" yet. But I buy nothing but Nexus. After just crying about an N5 refresh for a year, the 6p/5x launch made it difficult to not try a phablet. I probably can't answer this question until I try the 6p for a month or two. I completely skipped the 6 due to starting price and ridiculous size.
If they would have just launched your proposed array of devices instead of what they did, I probably would have went with the 5p as my knee jerk reaction.
Sent from a phone that is not a 128GB Frost Nexus 6P
Right now I would say 6p, but I voted for 5p because I know I would have wanted the slightly smaller size. But I think once you use the phablet size, it's hard to go back to smaller screen. It just feels inadequate.
To me, with the much slimmer profile (width), the 6P doesn't come across as a "phablet". My wife has a Lumia 1320 and I liked everything about it except it's width (and the extreme lack of apps, of course). I've had to make little adjustment from my trusty N5 that I had for nearly 2 years. My only complaint about the phone is how incredibly slippery it is (I have the aluminum model). I bought it because of it's looks, but it's nearly unusable without a case, IMHO. If I hold on to it tightly to "feel" like I'm not going to let it slip out of my hands, I keep hitting a button that wakes it up or shuts it off (btw, I have normal sized hands for a 6'1" tall person so it isn't a small hands thing). I have a case on order so that issue will hopefully be resolved soon. Very pleased over all so far.
Yeah, I think it was a huge mistake not to simply make two premium phones, with different screen sizes. A 5P I think would easily outsell the 6P, just as most iPhone users prefer the iPhone 6 over the 6+. Even many reviews of the 5X say the price difference for the base 6P makes it hardly worth getting the 5X, unless you just can't swing it (and when you think about the thousands people spend on phone plans, it makes the price difference even more minimal). I really wish there were a 5P, with the Huawei design, but a 5.2" screen.
Perhaps, in part, Google didn't want to completely put themselves in the hands of Huawei.

Yep, lots of people want a top of the line phone that aint phablet sized. Personally I've tried a number of phablets and never warmed up to them and I don't honestly expect to be happy with this phones size either. It is however a Nexus device and I've owned all but one of them. If there had been a 5P I order it and never look back. As it is I'm sure I'll move on as soon as an 820 5ish inch flagship device hits. No insult intended to the gents that love their phablets, you're welcome to em, just let me have a flagship in a smaller form factor and we're all good.

Yeah, I've always had Nexus phones, so I guess I'll try the 6P as my first venture into the phablet world. But I'm not that excited about it.
What's really perplexing is why they didn't stick with Motorola. I thought the Moto X/Nexus 6 design was a great design, except for the size. And of course the Moto X 2014 was a 5" phone. It was totally disappointing when the Nexus 6 came out and it was a supersized version of an otherwise great design. Why not just have Motorola do a 5.2 in version of the current Moto X design. That would be great (and it would even have the four microphone noise cancellation, that has been the best in a Nexus phone since the Nexus One with the Audience chip--I'm already hearing suspect things about the 6P which presumable using Qualcomm's medicore Fluence noise cancellation). Anyway, I think Motorola has a good design. They're also good at nice lower cost phones (which I wouldn't say about LG). A 5.2" Nexus X from Motorola would be nice than the 5X, I think. And it's weird that Motorola is the only Nexus manufacturer that didn't get to do two devices. LG does not seem so great to me that they needed to get a third shot. (Well, I guess HTC also never got another shot after the Nexus One, even though the One for it's day arguably had the most premium design until the 6P--and lest people forget that was the first unibody aluminum Nexus phone, perhaps even the first unibody aluminum phone period.)
Oh well, maybe next time. Who knows. Google is so changeable and inconsistent with what they do with the Nexus line.
I remember when I would pull out my N1 and people would comment on how huge it was. lol I suppose it doesn't matter in the context of this conversation but I just have to say it... I loved the trackball. I liked pulling the notifications out into 3D space and I liked being able to select tiny links on a web page without having to zoom.
6P
5P would be sweet

Switching over to nexus 6p

Hi all!
I am used to phones that are around 5.2" sizes like the current z2 I'm using. Although z2 has 5.2 inch screen, the overall phone is slightly bigger than other similar ones due to bezels.
The only factor that is preventing me to switch is the size of nexus 6p. Need some input from people here who changed from a smaller phone to nexus 6p.
Thanks

I switched from an lgg4 and I'm loving the bigger screen.
I've had mine about 24 hours. Coming from a moto x 2014, it's definitely large. Still trying to get used to it.
You adjust quickly and probably never look back.
I came from the Note 4 5.7", but prior to that I had the Note 2 5.5" then Galaxy S2 4.3". The jump from the s2 to the note 2 was an easy transition. Takes a day or so to get use to it. You won't regret it!
used to have a razr hd (4.7") went to a note 3(5.7") and refused to go back, was so happy when the 6p was announced to be same size.
yeah I remember jumping from the HTC amaze with a 4.3 inch screen to my note 3 5.7 inch. you can no longer one hand your phone.. but the display is awesome. after awhile it doesn't even seem big just right.

size? coming from a note 5

I'm coming from the note 5 and I was wondering if anyone felt like the original is a little on the small side after having it for a few days? I went in store and compared them and the actual screen is basically the same if not longer than my note 5 just not as wide. My S8 arrives today and I'm trying not to have buyers remorse already without using it lol. My other option is to go with the +

I did not own the note 5 but have owned a few phablets in the past...some in the note series and most recently the lg v10 before i switched to the S8 regular. If you are going for a phablet sized screen you will regret getting the S8. If you are asking if the screen is adequate for daily use as a phone, the answer is yes. The regular one is comfortable in hand and the screen does not feel small. That being said, you need to ask yourself what you're going for. If you are that unsure, go into any phone store and just hold the demo unit. Again, coming from the Lg v10, i dont miss the screen size and am very happy with the S8.
I upgraded from the note 5 and yes width wise it is smaller and the first day it really bugged me still does a little but i am getting use to it. But for me it much easier to hold.
coming from a note 4, i don't miss the big screen at all.
the extra comfort of the slim device more than makes up for the slightly smaller screen surface, and when playing games in landscape orientation the screen looks huge compared to the larger notes.

I had the note 5 for over a year and the S8 and S8+ just seem smaller to me. Not a big fan of the new aspect ratio or the screen sizes they advertise that don't really compare to 99% of the other phones on the market.
The s8 plus screen is a hair thinner but way taller. Easier to hold. But typing this, I have accidentally hit the back side key 3 times already. Booop
The tall and skinny was a little hard to get used to. Had 2 Note 7's before the recall and kind of got used to the new size. My daily driver before getting the S8 Plus was a Nexus 6 and it seems a lot larger even though the screen size is 5.9" opposed to 6.2".
I have the plus and my friend has the regular. I'm coming from my note 5 and just to adapted this. It just feels normal like my Note 7 did. Trust me, your going to be happy with the plus. The regular is to small imo.
I also came from the note 5 and still happen to have it. Side by side the note 5 seems clunky now after using the 8+ for a few days. Screen wise (the lit part per my calipers), the 8+ is 1mm narrower and 16mm longer. I think because it's bezeless on the sides, it makes the screen seem smaller/narrower than it really is.
after only hours with the reg s8 i think im going to send it back and get the + lol

I'm completely happy with mine, nothing out there now that compares - especially iPhoneies.
I've never liked cases, but after coming from a naked Note 4, with the S8 having a case on it makes it more comfortable. I think even the + with a slim case would have a good feel to it (and have a bit of remorse about not going with the +)
S8Plus is very cool! Enjoy
