Lots of false starts with moto voice - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had my Moto X Pure since Friday and the moto voice assist has been starting when it shouldn't a lot. I was excited to pick my own phrase and initially tried to go with "Hey, evelynn" but under no circumstances was the phone having that. I decided to use OK, Google since I'm so used to that with my old Nexus 5. Driving in my car listening to a podcast for the first time it registered an "OK, Google", I didn't think there was anything in the podcast to set it off but I thought it was a fluke. Then over the course of the weekend it proceeded to start voice assist at the most random times, once during a guitar solo from music that was playing through the phone, during conversations that had nothing like "OK, Google" in the conversation, and once even while I was laying down on the couch. I leave the phone in a breast pocket and many times I would pick it up to check something and the phone would already be open at the voice assist screen.
Yesterday I decided to switch to something maybe even more outside of my normal speech so I changed it to the longer "OK, Motot X" but it has still gone off at least three or four times today.
Is anybody else experiencing this?

Some phrases are stronger than others . I changed my phrase yesterday from "okay listen up" to "computer respond". Moto voice is launched 3 times today from the TV. So I will be changing it back.

Mine is set to "OK Moto" and has not had any false starts.

I've been having this happen too! Changed phrases many times and often times and it keeps happening. Just changed it to abracadabra ... We'll see how that goes LOL

I've had MotoX' in the past. You have to train it in a dead silent room. Not even the humming from a computer or fans going off. None of that. I'm pretty sure it worked best when I locked myself in my car to train it. Silence is key

I need to re-train mine. Has anyone had issues with the distance? With my 2013 X I could talk from across the room, now it seems I need to be nearly on top of it for it to work.
Maybe re-training to a new phrase would help.

I trained mine last night. It did ask me to go to a quieter place. It was picking up a small fan running in my office. Keep in mind, I just got the phone yesterday. I have tried it a couple of times today with it laying on my desk and it seems to work fine.

Microphone stops when I hit a numberkey if I'm calling an interactive menu system!

Ok, this is a real doozy.
This happened on my original Hermes, and now it's happening on my (three day old!) new one too (just tried to Ring Areti Internet to speak to someone on behalf of one of my clients, and the moment I pressed 0 to speak to someone the microphone seems to just cut out).
The root of the problem is: I can ring a number, whatever, and if I get to a menu system, I tap in the appropriate number to navigate through the system. However, the moment I do so, when I do eventually get through to someone they can't hear me. I can hear them fine, but my microphone has totally cut out - and even trying things like hitting mute / unmute makes no difference.
If I don't press a button, and either hang on until the menu system just puts me through to someone, the mic works fine. The worst thing about this problem is that it's unpredictable; it can happen all the time or it can just happen every so often, and there's no visual or audio indicators to say otherwise that the problem is occurring.
My two Hermes models are quite vastly different in model: the old one was an HT634 and this one is a 643, so the question of the problem being a hardware one spread across several models doesn't apply. This is REALLY ANNOYING, not only does it piss off the person on the other end but if you're stuck in a queue waiting to speak to someone for 20+ minutes, finally getting through and finding that you can't be heard is TOTALLY ANNOYING!
What's even more confusing is this: I thought it might be a permanent problem, so I tried ringing my home phone, then getting my friend to make like an interactive menu system and just say "press 1 to test this, press 2 to confirm that this is a really stupid thing I'm having to do for you, press 3 to confirm that you don't mind me hitting you after we're done testing this idea of yours"... You get the idea. I pressed a button (more than one in fact, the second time I tried it), waited the appopriate length of time that it would take in the real world to get connected, and started speaking - and the person on the landline could hear me fine.
The problem was also present (and intermittent) on my first Hermes, but it was unpredictable. I'm not in a great 3G signal area, and as I look at my phone at the moment it's gone back to GPRS. I also noticed on the MoDaCo forums that some people in London were suffering from problems where they couldn't hear callers, but the person at the other end could hear them fine (they suppose, as they weren't hung up on even though they couldn't hear their caller) - they had to force their phone back to 2G to resolve the problem. However, my microphone doesn't cut out during normal phone usage, so it's just really bugging me that I can't figure out why the hell this is happening!
My Hermes is pretty much stock: T-Mobile ROM, nothing cooked or patched, I just have the odd little bunch of harmless utilities installed: a screen cap application, Map24 Mobile, Microsoft Reader, Media Metrics Meter (usage tracker, you get paid £5 a month for submitting your stats to them so it pays for the Web 'n Walk), Opera Mobile, TCPMP, SMSDRFix, Vibra Switch, WM5NewMenu and Total Commander... They're the only significant additions.
This is driving me nuts! I never had this problem on my old Alpine, though granted it was on O2. I've even had this problem when calling the T-Mobile support line! Which as you can imagine is MOST frustrating.
Anybody have even the faintest idea as to how to solve this problem? It SEVERELY hinders my ability to ring any kind of helpline or support / sales line... And until I found an alternative (direct dial) number to get through to T-Mobile Customer Services, I wasn't even able to ring them!
had exactly the same problem with a Vario II. I couldn't set up my voicemail!
Exchanged unit for a new one and now works fine. No problems so far

Argh... It took me long enough to get this replacement!!! Vario 2s are like golddust at the moment.
What model number is your new unit? Mine is an HT643 (first one was a 634)...

I wasn't expecting "phone" to use so much battery on my phone

I am used to seeing "screen", and "android OS" or even "Google Services". I have never seen phone so high on any of my other android phones. Then again, I have never seen MyFitnessPal use so much either.
I only use MFP a few minutes a day to log my calories, and since I finally activated my Moto X on Sunday, I have only made one call, and that was into voicemail to set up visual voicemail.

That actually happened to me today, too. Phone was causing a wakelock for some reason. I rebooted and it went away.
Does wake lock work on 4.4?

I am experiencing this as well. I have rebooted multiple times, no change. The only thing I can think that I did with the new phone app was rearrange my favs. I have tried re syncing all my accounts but it still persists.
Any ideas what is causing this?
FYI. Updated to 4.4.4 yesterday.
Phone doesn't even show up on my list.

[Q] GS4 spoke "Please unlock your Device"

I tried to look this up anywhere online and have found no where mentioning this, but while I was listening to the song "While my guitar gently weeps"by the Beatles the song randomly stopped while my screen was off and the Galaxy s4 spoke in a woman's voice " Please Unlock Your Device". I have had this phone for 6 months and nothing like this had ever happened to me. my phone is rooted but I haven't done much except installing titanium backup several months ago. just had this happen so I don't know if this is easily repeatable.
does anybody know why this happened?
Edit: This should probably not be in the general discussions. don't know how to change that though.

Same thing happened to me on a couple of occasions recently, on a vanilla Nexus 7 2013. I heard this message while the tablet was playing music but otherwise not in use. The message repeats until you unlock the device.

About 2 weeks after I had started this thread I figured out what it was. When the in line remote is pressed and held, the button that pauses and starts video and audio, Android will normally pull up the Google Voice Command, but when your phone is locked, l that voice file is initiated.

Recent issues?

Hey everyone
I got a nexus 5 and using a Galaxy gear live.
I think there was an update the other day to google services and I think since then the watch has been having issues.
I get notifications and everything fine
But when I try to say text my friend Justin
I go OK google. Text Justin mobile. Say my text. It transcript it fine but then says I didn't catch that. And does that every time. I will say hey what's up. It will show that fine in the screen but then all of a sudden it will say didn't catch that
Anyone else having that issue at all?
At least it's not just me then! Same thing started a couple of days ago for me too. Using the LG G Watch R, it now won't "show me my steps", "set a timer for 50 minutes" or acknowledge what I want to say in a message even though it's got it up on the screen. Must be a software bug as I've reset the watch and reinstalled Android Wear on my phone. Still gets my notifications through so it's just a matter of waiting for a patch I suppose.
Weirdly enough, I can't reply to texts (I use Hangouts) but I can dictate replies to Whatsapp messages so it must be a google thing.
I suspect it's a server-side issue as it suddenly happened to a lot of us (though seemingly not all) around the same time. It's similar to how voice dictation of location-based reminders stopped working for some people for a few days a couple of months ago. I do find it alarming, though, that the primary and intended method of interacting with the watch can simply go offline for days on end without a word for Google.

Ya. Seems to be working again fine without issues now. Was odd

Unfortunately it still doesn't work for me. Really frustrating
Yesterday's Android Wear app update has solved the "show me my steps" issue but texting is still out of action.

Samsung S5 speaks locations and "Welcome Home" - How to turn off?

This is for a friend's phone and I have not heard this myself.
He says the phone will randomly speak to him with messages like "welcome home" and it will also say where he is going when he leaves home.
I wish I could be more specific, but I don't have first hand experience with this.
Is this a driving mode thing? A talk back thing? A Samsung Voice thing? A Google Voice thing?
Thanks for any help.
Well, I've been gone a couple of weeks and my friend reminded me that I haven't helped him yet.
No replies to my query? Hasn't anyone else experienced this before?
Sounds like Google now.
