[Q] GS4 spoke "Please unlock your Device" - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I tried to look this up anywhere online and have found no where mentioning this, but while I was listening to the song "While my guitar gently weeps"by the Beatles the song randomly stopped while my screen was off and the Galaxy s4 spoke in a woman's voice " Please Unlock Your Device". I have had this phone for 6 months and nothing like this had ever happened to me. my phone is rooted but I haven't done much except installing titanium backup several months ago. just had this happen so I don't know if this is easily repeatable.
does anybody know why this happened?
Edit: This should probably not be in the general discussions. don't know how to change that though.

Same thing happened to me on a couple of occasions recently, on a vanilla Nexus 7 2013. I heard this message while the tablet was playing music but otherwise not in use. The message repeats until you unlock the device.

About 2 weeks after I had started this thread I figured out what it was. When the in line remote is pressed and held, the button that pauses and starts video and audio, Android will normally pull up the Google Voice Command, but when your phone is locked, l that voice file is initiated.

[Q] Phone Beeping Tone During Calls

Greetings Everyone,
I've had this issue with my S4 since I got it. During every phone call, at random times, it sounds like someone is hitting a button on their phone causing an annoying tone beep, like someone is pressing the 4 button. My phone is always locked during the phone call and I've asked if the other person could have hit the key which they always say no. This is HIGHLY annoying as it happens during every call. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be the cause of this?
Thanks in advance!

maybe it is your alerts? Did you try going to Settings of the dialer, and switching off "minute minder" and "alert during calls" under "call alerts" menu?

Really strange then, never heard of this. Maybe you are calling a landline, and two people pick up on the other end, and one of them accientally hits some keys before hanging up.
I am out of guesses. :/

Are you using Google voice or is someone you're calling using Google voice? When I made calls using Google voice I would experience this exact behavior... a random touch tone beep every so often...

Nope, not using Google Voice and am always talking to people on their cell phones. I rarely call landline phones anymore. I have pretty much all notification settings turned off also. I'm at a loss here
I have this EXACT problem.
Happens on my S3 as well. I replaced sim cards but that doesn't do anything. I'm guessing its something with att

I always thought it was a problem with the other persons service, but I was on the phone with HP tech support for work and I was on speakerphone with the phone laying on the desk and the guy kept asking me if I was pressing the dial tone buttons. That's when I was certain it's a problem with something on AT&T. Or just a weird problem that both my S3 and S4 have.
Which dialer are you using? I also had this same issue on my Galaxy Nexus. Haven't had the issue on the S4 yet

I am completely stock just rooted.
So glad to hear I'm not the only one having the issue. I'm calling AT&T today to see what they say. Maybe it's just a jacked up phone. I'll keep you guys posted on what they say.
I have the same characteristic on my HTC One, so it's not unique to the S4. For the moment, I'm thinking it's just a tone corresponding to notifications, but I'll be following the thread with interest. Please report your finding.
ETA: Won't the joke be on all of us if we find out its the NSA listening in on our conversations?
I have the same issue with the key tones. I hear them randomly and it is so annoying. It all started when I got a warranty replacement Galaxy S3. I thought because the S3 might be a refurb. that is why it was doing this key tones. So I signed a contract and got the Galaxy S4 and the problem did not end. I had EIGHT different S4's, SIX different sim cards, did many hard resets, made two different google accounts, tried another phone, changed my phone number, and changed my account with ATT. IT STILL DOES THE NOISE!!!!! HELP ME PLEASE!!! SOMEONE!!!
Interesting... I had the exact same thing with my Sprint Galaxy S3. I hadn't pressed keys on my end, and the person on the other end (different people) always swore they hadn't pressed anything.
I haven't noticed it (yet) on my AT&T S4, but it is definitely not specific to AT&T. My S3 wasn't even rooted - completely stock. Maybe something in the more recent updates from Samsung that is going out to all the carriers?
Edit: Scratch my thought about Samsung, I see someone above mentioned the HTC One.
AT&T sent me out a HTC One to try on weds and the first convo I had with someone the key tones were there. The guy at AT&T thought it might have been my 4G LTE signal and he made my phone just 3G because he thought it was the common feature with all the phones but even with just the 3G it still does it. Im at a lost! Every time I hear the key tones I want to throw the phone against the nearest wall.
Have it on my S3, on Straight Talk AT&T sim
I've been searching and searching for an answer for this. I've had my phone since February, and this beeping only started in the past couple of months. Someone suggested it was the minute minder, but that is turned off on my phone. I've exhausted all options anyone has posted, and I guess I just have to deal with it. I'm starting to think it's the NSA thing...
By the way, my friend has heard the beeps on their end, as well but don't hear it on calls with other people so it doesn't seem to be their iPhone. Imagine that...still doesn't make me want one!
Notification beeps?

Looks like it might have something to do with "DTMF" Touch tones. In a google search, I am running across many people talking about this issue and addressing it as DTMF but haven't found a solution. Many search hits!
If anybody else wants to try and run it down further, search for DTMF tones during call or similar.

I have been searching this everywhere. I am starting to think you are right. I went back as far as 2009 though. Initially it was reported with VOIP phones. So I wonder if on the back end companies are beginning to integrate technologies.
Regardless it's annoying! I'm so glad I'm not the only one!
Similar problem, with details.
I've been having a similar issue with key tone sounds during calls as well. I'm with PureTalk USA and have been fine for over a year now, then this started happening. The problem for me began with getting a new call forwarding number because my voicemail began having issues. I noticed I was hearing intermittent sounds like a key being dialed during calls. I checked my settings, nothing indicated the phone had any kind of minute minder active. Because the beeping is irregular that wouldn't make sense anyway. During a call last night, for example, I must have heard it more than 30 times in an hour, many of those times in clusters of 4-7 in the space of only 5 minutes. This happens with incoming and outgoing calls, to any carrier, to even calls to PureTalk customer service.
The other thing I wanted to add was that this was not just with one phone. My regular handset is the unlocked Google Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I took out the sim and put it into my old Nokia GoPhone, and the problem persisted. The Nokia is not a smart phone, and the setting have never been tampered with, and the last time I'd used that phone I had never had this issue.
PureTalk has done little to resolve this matter, stating that the problem is with the handset settings, even though I've explained that I've had this error with my smart phone and with a dumb phone, but they insist the issue is on my end. Since going to their tech support my data has stopped working as well, which was a consequence of their doing an account reset to attempt to resolve my problem. They again tell me this is an issue with my handset and not on their end, despite the account reset changing nothing on my phone. Other tech support ideas such as sending a new sim card and wiping my phone didn't help, not that it would have since the error is on multiple phones, through two sim cards.
Going to switch carriers, thinking TMobile. If PureTalk is convinced my issue is in my handset and continues closing the ticket I don't see that this will ever be resolved.

Well, if it is in fact the NSA eavesdropping on our conversations, then color me disappointed. You think they'd do a better job of covering their tracks. No sense in covert surveillance if you're gonna be announcing it every few minutes with an audible tone.

Recent issues?

Hey everyone
I got a nexus 5 and using a Galaxy gear live.
I think there was an update the other day to google services and I think since then the watch has been having issues.
I get notifications and everything fine
But when I try to say text my friend Justin
I go OK google. Text Justin mobile. Say my text. It transcript it fine but then says I didn't catch that. And does that every time. I will say hey what's up. It will show that fine in the screen but then all of a sudden it will say didn't catch that
Anyone else having that issue at all?
At least it's not just me then! Same thing started a couple of days ago for me too. Using the LG G Watch R, it now won't "show me my steps", "set a timer for 50 minutes" or acknowledge what I want to say in a message even though it's got it up on the screen. Must be a software bug as I've reset the watch and reinstalled Android Wear on my phone. Still gets my notifications through so it's just a matter of waiting for a patch I suppose.
Weirdly enough, I can't reply to texts (I use Hangouts) but I can dictate replies to Whatsapp messages so it must be a google thing.
I suspect it's a server-side issue as it suddenly happened to a lot of us (though seemingly not all) around the same time. It's similar to how voice dictation of location-based reminders stopped working for some people for a few days a couple of months ago. I do find it alarming, though, that the primary and intended method of interacting with the watch can simply go offline for days on end without a word for Google.

Unfortunately it still doesn't work for me. Really frustrating
Yesterday's Android Wear app update has solved the "show me my steps" issue but texting is still out of action.

Lots of false starts with moto voice

I've had my Moto X Pure since Friday and the moto voice assist has been starting when it shouldn't a lot. I was excited to pick my own phrase and initially tried to go with "Hey, evelynn" but under no circumstances was the phone having that. I decided to use OK, Google since I'm so used to that with my old Nexus 5. Driving in my car listening to a podcast for the first time it registered an "OK, Google", I didn't think there was anything in the podcast to set it off but I thought it was a fluke. Then over the course of the weekend it proceeded to start voice assist at the most random times, once during a guitar solo from music that was playing through the phone, during conversations that had nothing like "OK, Google" in the conversation, and once even while I was laying down on the couch. I leave the phone in a breast pocket and many times I would pick it up to check something and the phone would already be open at the voice assist screen.
Yesterday I decided to switch to something maybe even more outside of my normal speech so I changed it to the longer "OK, Motot X" but it has still gone off at least three or four times today.
Is anybody else experiencing this?

Some phrases are stronger than others . I changed my phrase yesterday from "okay listen up" to "computer respond". Moto voice is launched 3 times today from the TV. So I will be changing it back.
Mine is set to "OK Moto" and has not had any false starts.
I've been having this happen too! Changed phrases many times and often times and it keeps happening. Just changed it to abracadabra ... We'll see how that goes LOL

I've had MotoX' in the past. You have to train it in a dead silent room. Not even the humming from a computer or fans going off. None of that. I'm pretty sure it worked best when I locked myself in my car to train it. Silence is key
Sent from my Nexus 6
I need to re-train mine. Has anyone had issues with the distance? With my 2013 X I could talk from across the room, now it seems I need to be nearly on top of it for it to work.
Maybe re-training to a new phrase would help.
I trained mine last night. It did ask me to go to a quieter place. It was picking up a small fan running in my office. Keep in mind, I just got the phone yesterday. I have tried it a couple of times today with it laying on my desk and it seems to work fine.

"chirp" and beeping sound coming from phone

Just the other day I was sitting at my desk with my phone and it let out a strange chirp noise, hard to describe but I was very confused as so what it was. It did it again later that night. Today while driving home streaming music over Bluetooth and it did it 4 or 5 times randomly and it played over my car speaker.
The weird thing happened tonight, sitting on my couch, I start to hear a high pitched beeping sound, and I can't tell where it's coming from, I grab my phone and hold it to my ear and sure enough it's the phone. It only went on for less than a minute then stopped. I have no idea what would cause this, no new apps have been installed. Anyone else experiencing something like this?
maybe aliens are trying to contact you. just kidding jay. I haven't encountered that issue yet. Sounds like the issue is coming from the QDAC. you should make a video recording when it happened next time, then return it to LG and show them the video.

That's weird
It's happening to me too. Just did it about 5 min ago for the 2nd time since I've had the phone. Very annoying.
My LG V20 is doing the same thing. Randomly beeps for 30 seconds or so. It even does it when I'm talking on the phone but the person I'm talking to doesn't hear it. My phone is only like 2 months old. What do I do to fix it?
Any further developments on this issue?
My LG V10 started beeping last night after a battery change. 8 beeps, short pause, repeat. Responds to decreasing the "music, audio, video" volume. Stops if I make a call. Begins again at call end. Continues for an indefinite amount of time then stops. Switched the battery back and tried others. Beeping began again after powering up. Once immediately, once later on. Did this 4 or 5 times last night, 3 times thus far today. Always 8 rhythmic beeps, a pause, and repeat. My phone also started (about a month ago) failing to charge using aftermarket chargers. Will charge fine using stock LG chargers. I've got screen artifacts too, maybe its just time for a Note 8
I meant to add... AT&T. Upgraded to the "new" software that came out today (beeping occurred before and after).
EDIT: Just started beeping again, I pulled up YouTube, started a video, and the beeping stopped when the video audio started...
EDIT 2: Now, twice, for no reason, random audio has played from my phone... once for 4 or 5 seconds, sounded like a commercial. Second time for just a second, not music. No active apps that had any video or audio playing... Beginning to think my LG V10 is possessed
This has happened to me on my H918 before but each time it was when I was using a modded mixer_paths_tasha.xml file to have louder notifications.

Not yet. Dread having to do that even more than upgrading.
Never had to factory reset an android. Did with iphones back in the day. I'm thinking that may be the only option to save the phone at this point.
Timing could not be more spot on... Make my last payment on the V10 this month.
On the bright side, if I did upgrade, I would not notice an increased payment... it would just replace the monthly payment on the LG.
.
mine started tonight i went to charge it and it started pingpong sound it never has done this before so i unplugged my charger and it stopped
If anyone still looking, just go to sounds and uncheck touch and screen lock sounds
Edit : its still beeping while playing youtube videos!
