Will OF2 ever get a root? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Bought a 'rooted' phone off of Swappa after getting an OF2 from att
waited a week to get this thing from Puerto Rico...turns out its on OF2 and root checker says its not rooted. ****.
I really need a phone, been without one for a month, any chance I am doing something wrong if root checker and Titanium backup both say the phone is not rooted but the seller did? Do I have to safestrap?

Root, unlock bootloader, and recovery

Hi all,
I just came from an HTC EVO 4G LTE and I sort of want to root right away. But, I've noticed there isn't an "all-in-one" root/unlock bootloader/flash recovery yet. Should I wait? The reason I ask is because I was reading some of the other threads and some people were saying they regret rooting and want to unroot and someone even mentioned something about accepting an update with the booatloader locked is a bad thing, possibly. Needless to say, I'm a bit confused. I guess I want to root so I can install TiBu and get tether to work.
Thanks...
The bootlocker is not locked on this phone. I'd use qbking's method to root the phone if you're desparate for root right away. Otherwise, I'd just suggest waiting. I'm guessing in weeks to come there will be custom roms and probably a universal method for rooting, possibly even a toolbox. Because the phone isn't even a week old, everything is still getting sorted out.

Just follow qbkings video. The motochopper method is legit. I rooted on day 1. using tibu and adaway and all the rest.

I gave my 4G LTE to my roommate... I loved it like the OG but the HTC EVO 3D (not so much)... Just got tired of HTC's slowness to update and problems with contact lags, etc. So far, I'm loving the S4
I think I'm going to resist rooting for another week. Let's see if I can.. Knowing myself, if i have nothing to do this weekend i will probably root it
Thanks you for all of your inputs...
wow, that was the easiest root I have ever done I think. There is no reason to wait, TWRP is here and that was so painless as well.
It's just as easy to unroot too. just flash the stock firmware and recovery via odin.

[Q] general help and understanding

I will soon be getting a samsung galaxy g4 32gb phone from att. I want to know the best way to root it and remove the bloatware mainly att stuff, without bricking or messing up the phone. I love the ability to root i did with my on sony xperia play. Unfornately the last phone i had a lg optimus g crash and burn after rooting and trying to remove bloatware. So I want to make sure I have no problems. I heard it was easy and simple to do with a galaxy line but i just don't want to mess it up i can afford buying new phones.
thanks

I rooted mine with Chaifire's Autoroot and it was easy
but after rooting you dont get the updates!
so i want to unroot to get the official updates!
anyone knows any way to root without cancelling the updates?( I KNOW THAT after each update the root will be gone ! but i can reroot after each OTA updates!)

Bet you're not on mk2 firmware, I bet he is. Chainfire isn't going to work.

Root alone doesn't block the OTA. In fact, going from MF3 to MK2, you could first root with jortex's method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387577) and enable survival mode. Then after the OTA, you will still have root.

If you're using supersu there is a full unroot method in the apps settings. Look there.

I rooted that phone with kingo root through the computer. Bloatware on the I removed bloatware with ROM toolbox pro however when trying to do ota update it looked for the bloatware and when it didn't find it ota failed. (looked that up in the failed log - hung on not finding chaton) flashed mk2 rom then only froze the bloatware. have to see if the next update will fail I don't think it will though because when I only froze bloatware on mf3 I did get the mj9 ota update successfully

[Q] Sprint G2. Advice on rooting a replacement (TEP)

So i had to get my Sprint G2 replaced.
I should be getting one in the mail tomorrow from TEP (Sprint Insurance)
Any steps/precautions i should be taking if i want to root it? I rooted my last G2, im just wondering if anything has changed since.
Should I let the software on the G2 update first and then root? Or root first? Im not sure if all G2s are still rootable with newest updates.
Any other tips are appreciated.

BUMP:good:
Well, I'm actually a new G2 user, just got this phone a couple days ago. It came with 4.4.2. ZVD. I rooted using towelroot and then autorec to flash TWRP. All took less than 5 minutes.

Noob root question. If i get an OTA can i just flash SuperSU once im already rooted?

Sorry for the confusing title, I'm coming from a Nexus 6 that was one of the easier phones to root and customize. So far I'm on month 3 with my V20 and haven't rooted it yet. If I do and receive a OTA I will obviously lose my root, but once I have an unlocked bootloader and custom recovery installed, can I just reflash SuperSU to reroot?
Thanks.
OTAs on this device overwrite the bootloader and recovery. you WILL lose root. and all methods to get it back.

Rooting isn't pointless. You still have access to all the exclusive root features you wouldn't normally have of course. Why would you want to take an OTA anyways unless you have some issue with your phone (just curious)? You could just wait for someone to post TWRP flashable updates for your variant of the V20 so that you can keep root access while still updating.

I'm waiting on 7.1 and fear I will finally root and it will come along in a OTA and I will not be able to root again until someone comes up with a new form of root.
I could be way off though, like I said, noob question, I came from a Nexus 6 where root and flashing custom ROMs was a cake walk for a guy like me.

all you need is someone who can provide updated stock roms like i do on the ls997 On the sprint model we have the latest OTA applied
Yeah but as you know development on the H990ds isn't exactly buzzing.
Neither are the other devices anymore
I guess. Surprises me as the V20 is a fantastic device.
But LG didn't make anything easy for you devs.
