So i had to get my Sprint G2 replaced.
I should be getting one in the mail tomorrow from TEP (Sprint Insurance)
Any steps/precautions i should be taking if i want to root it? I rooted my last G2, im just wondering if anything has changed since.
Should I let the software on the G2 update first and then root? Or root first? Im not sure if all G2s are still rootable with newest updates.
Any other tips are appreciated.

BUMP:good:
Well, I'm actually a new G2 user, just got this phone a couple days ago. It came with 4.4.2. ZVD. I rooted using towelroot and then autorec to flash TWRP. All took less than 5 minutes.

Hey everyone, just as the title states. I just got a MT4G and it is sick I'm going to try and sell my MT3G and was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for which rom to put on it before I do? I don't really care I guess, but maybe just a nice, stable rom...?
Thanks!
I would say sell it stock, so the person you are selling it to can get the T-mobile OTA update. That is what I would do. I just kind of depends on how you are trying to sell it. If you are selling it on CL or Ebay I would sell it stock. If you are selling it to a friend or someone you know that you can help them with it if they have any problems, sell it with a stable version of CM 6.0. Just my opinion.
When I sold my old g1 on ebay I sold it with cyanogen. I got more money for it too listing as rooted. Just my 2 cents.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
If you are selling it on craigslist I would ask the person if they would like it with a custom rom. If they have no idea what you are talking about, just sell it stock with the latest update (Froyo 2.2.1) I would do the manual update.
Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to get the stock rom on the phone? I mean is it as easy as flashing a rom? I want to still keep it rooted because it'll sell for more.
there should be a guide stickied on how to unroot, go back to stock, and then update to official froyo. after that just use universal androot to root it
Stock with Androot installed.
Cant find a guide on how to unroot and go to stock, I looked in the general/android dev forums. Am i just missing it?

Maybe check this thread. It might have some information for you.
[How-To] Root and un-root the T-Mobile myTouch 3G
Or this one:
myTouch 3G Step-By-Step Unroot
Do you know how I found these?
By searching for "unroot". I know it's confusing at times but at least give it a try.
Hey I'm sorry but one more question:
Do I need a SIM card to be in the phone while doing this? If I remember correctly, you can't get past the initial google setup without signing in to your google accout over the data network right?
this is a great guide for instaling froyo on your G1!

I just did myself upgrading my G1 last week, just follow this thread:

Hi all,
I just came from an HTC EVO 4G LTE and I sort of want to root right away. But, I've noticed there isn't an "all-in-one" root/unlock bootloader/flash recovery yet. Should I wait? The reason I ask is because I was reading some of the other threads and some people were saying they regret rooting and want to unroot and someone even mentioned something about accepting an update with the booatloader locked is a bad thing, possibly. Needless to say, I'm a bit confused. I guess I want to root so I can install TiBu and get tether to work.
Thanks...
The bootlocker is not locked on this phone. I'd use qbking's method to root the phone if you're desparate for root right away. Otherwise, I'd just suggest waiting. I'm guessing in weeks to come there will be custom roms and probably a universal method for rooting, possibly even a toolbox. Because the phone isn't even a week old, everything is still getting sorted out.

Just follow qbkings video. The motochopper method is legit. I rooted on day 1. using tibu and adaway and all the rest.

I gave my 4G LTE to my roommate... I loved it like the OG but the HTC EVO 3D (not so much)... Just got tired of HTC's slowness to update and problems with contact lags, etc. So far, I'm loving the S4
I think I'm going to resist rooting for another week. Let's see if I can.. Knowing myself, if i have nothing to do this weekend i will probably root it
Thanks you for all of your inputs...
wow, that was the easiest root I have ever done I think. There is no reason to wait, TWRP is here and that was so painless as well.
It's just as easy to unroot too. just flash the stock firmware and recovery via odin.
I've got 2 MyTouch phones I haven't used in over a year that my parents were using and now that they've moved on to newer phones, I'd like to get these back to stock but I don't remember at all how I rooted them in the first place. It seems according to THIS guide that the way I rooted matters. Is there any way to figure this out?
Thanks for any help.
i rooted my lg g2 at&t a while ago. the kitkat update came out and will not let me update in root and im not sure how to unroot my device.
is there a way to update with out unroot?
This is how I had to do it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
Another great post has been done in the ATT section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2633150
I also watched a YT video that someone posted that has awesome instructions. Worked like a charm. At first it wouldn't find the update so I kept pushing my date further and further, but ATT helped me and pushed the DL to my phone. Only bad thing is that until I reset my phone, it keeps telling me I can't check for updates for 1,600 hours, lmao.
Bought a 'rooted' phone off of Swappa after getting an OF2 from att
waited a week to get this thing from Puerto Rico...turns out its on OF2 and root checker says its not rooted. ****.
I really need a phone, been without one for a month, any chance I am doing something wrong if root checker and Titanium backup both say the phone is not rooted but the seller did? Do I have to safestrap?
