Can't flash any custom rom in CWM. - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have rooted my Samsung Galaxy NOte 4 with CF root and then I have installen CWM on it.
Then I tried to flash several custom ROMs, but none of them work.
I get this error on most of them:
E: Can't open /storage/extSdCard/Emotion_revolution_R8_final.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
I have this with all ROMs I try to install. How could I fix this?

Use TWRP for Note 4, choose your phone model in the link and flash with Odin

is it always the same error, could it be a bad download?
possibly try a different source like an OTG cable and usb stick

Thank you for your quick reply.
I have actually found the problem. Apparently Clockworkmod did not support my 64 GB microSD card. I tried one that is 16GB and it works fine.
But, why is TWRP better than Clockworkmod?

CWM is for older devices, use TWRP,however i think you should format that 64 gb card, after format copy all from 16 gb to 64 gb and all should be fine. the phone does support SD cards up to 128 gb CWM has nothing to do with that

ive only used twrp sorry can help on that

[Q] Trying to flash a custom rom again.

I used skipsoft's Lg tool kit in order to fix my storage capacity problem. My phone was only showing about 6gb when I have a 16gb nexus. So i flashed the factory Image to fix the storage problem. I can boot into the stock image of 4.4.2 but I can reload a custom rom.
I have tried both twrp and I have tried clockworkmod I havent a clue what I am doing wrong really.
Do you have an i337 with nb1 firmware? If so you can't flash a custom recovery

Uh.... I have had custom recoveries forever since I got the phone. I just came to realize that I had lost half of my storage space from a bad format. The recoveries themselves work.. I just cant flash a custom rom like carbon or mahdi's. Though Ive used mahdi's rom forever and was just on carbon rom.

The recovery was flashed from fastboot..
This is the exact error message i get. Error executing update binary in zip /sdcard/romfiles/carbon-kk-nightly.
This is even after I went back to a stock 4.3 image.

My first thought is it could be a bad download. Have you tried to re-download the rom?

I tried two different roms and i get that error with both of them. This is only after I fixed the partition size. I was only showing 5gb of storage.. and now i have 12gb but cant flash any custom roms lol. im trying to redownload one now.

To fix the storage issue did you do anything other than flash the factory image? That shouldn't cause Abby problems

I've flashed the Factory Image and i had the Stock recovery which sucks
The easiest thing is to use the CM Installer through Windows, it will install CM11 along with CWM! Worked for me
Well the twrp was an old version that was loading. So I updated that and Ill give it another try.
That could very well have been the problem.
So far that looks like that was what the problem was. On Skips Lg google nexus 4 toolkit. It tries to load an older version of the recovery which doesnt seem to like the newer roms. I updated to openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.0-mako.img and that solved my problem.

Do I need an SD card?

Before I even attempt to root & install a custom ROM. Do I absolutely need an SD card?
For root & installing custom ROM, it doesn't require to have a SD card..
Though you can buy one to keep your personal files.

Okay can someone walk me through this then? Because I've only installed custom rom's through SD cards.
Unless after I root your saying I would have to drag & drop the files into a directory inside the phone.

A bit of searching would have found you this guide http://androidxda.com/root-samsung-galaxy-s5-sm-g900p for how to root the G900P. Realy, wait for others to answer your question?
BTW you do need a sdcard if you want to flash roms, because if you data factory reset in recovery the internal sdcard should be wiped before you flash a new rom, unless you push a rom with adb or sideload from recovery.

Thank you & sorry for not searching. I've used ADB & recovery but its been about 2 years since I've touched them.
So if I'm understanding this right. I would be able to for example.
Wipe with recovery or ADB. And use recovery to enter usb mode. Drag & drop the ROM. And install from there correct?

Best is to place and use a sdcard to put the rom on. First you have to flash a custom recovery through Odin on your pc though, i personaly recomend Philz Touch recovery if available for your phone. Once installed you can flash other roms or kernels. No need to root first as all custom roms are pre-rooted. Make a backup pf your current rom before you flash a new one, just to be safe.

Trying to re-ROM my Note 3

I've been trying to re-ROM my phone from CM11 to CM12.1, but I keep getting:
error executing updater binary in zip

From what I've seen recommended is to wipe the phone, which I have with TWRP and I keep getting their error when I try to install the new ROM.
That error leads me to believe the rom is not made for the phone or the zip file is corrupted.

I"ve been trying this with a few different updated ROMs. As for the ROM not being for the phone, it is unlikely since it is unified. I'd post the link, but the forum won't let me yet.
The recovery is TWRP 2.8.7.1 or newer?
Examine the updater script in the ROM to make sure your phone meet's the requirements.

Upgraded to 3.0.0.0 and still having the same issue. Wiped cache/dalvik, did a Factory Reset in TWRP as well, tried to flash again, and I'm still getting the same error message:
Updater process ended with ERROR: 7
Error installing zip file '/external_sd/ROM/cm-12.1-20160302-NIGHTLY-hlte.zip'

Since the updater script error is still appearing, it sounds like the phone is not compatible with the ROM.
What is the exact model of the phone?

I was using the hlte one (Unified version) since that worked with CM11. I am now booting up my Note 3 with CM12-1. Thank you! :highfive:
Glad it worked.

Data and System not mountable

[solved]
Hello,
tried to install Nougat Revolution. It didn´t work correctly.
At the moment TWRP Revolution for nogut is installed. But I´m not abled to mount system or data.
Tried to flash system via fastboot. Everytime I got an error (sparse flash write failure).
At the moment I´m only able to run TWRP but not able to install any firmware because I have no acces to DATA or System. Tried to wipe boath partition. Its not possible.
Any Ideas?
That's a known mistake to be fixed later. For now, flash FW via ADB sideload, it works in spite of the error warnings (own experience).

There are many guides on how to install the stock firmware around. I, unfortunately cannot help you, why don't you try asking directly in the Revolution Recovery thread instead of creating a new insufficiently-named thread? The Revolution dev will be more likely to notice your question and help you.

have you tried the 3 button method?
Thank you for your help.
The only way two safe the phone was to install MM with the 3 Buttons and the patched oeminfo. The OEMinfo only works with B150. With other versions its not possible.
After Reinstall all now works fine! Thank you for your help.

Is it possible to flash a ROM to this without a usb cable?

I've got it rooted and stuff but it's still on 4.2.2 I think. No USB cable to connect to PC to flash it.
Not really. You'll pick one up for pennies on eBay.
Why not.

I don't understand why you couldn't I've never had to use a USB cable for anything. Use a flashdrive, SD or es file Explorer to transfer rom and flash away. You can't flash directly from flash drive but you can from SD card.

Guides I read said that you needed to use fastboot and stuff to flash roms (cyanogen and twrp). The only rom flasher I actually found that seemed trustworthy enough couldn't even reboot the console. It just crashed itself.
Easy

Use flashify to install twrp img, flashify will also reboot to anything. if flashify is not trustworthy I think someone would have made a thread here. I've used it many many times without any negative effects. Hope this helps you

I'll install it now and try this later today. Will it load the rom from internal memory or sd card only?
edit: did it, flashed twrp and from there I flashed remix os, though I'm not completely sure if it's stuck in a bootloop or anything.
edit: it's working fine. thanks for your help!
I've flashed ROMS with flashify and an SD card - worked for me
