I've been trying to re-ROM my phone from CM11 to CM12.1, but I keep getting:
error executing updater binary in zip

From what I've seen recommended is to wipe the phone, which I have with TWRP and I keep getting their error when I try to install the new ROM.
That error leads me to believe the rom is not made for the phone or the zip file is corrupted.

I"ve been trying this with a few different updated ROMs. As for the ROM not being for the phone, it is unlikely since it is unified. I'd post the link, but the forum won't let me yet.
The recovery is TWRP 2.8.7.1 or newer?
Examine the updater script in the ROM to make sure your phone meet's the requirements.

Upgraded to 3.0.0.0 and still having the same issue. Wiped cache/dalvik, did a Factory Reset in TWRP as well, tried to flash again, and I'm still getting the same error message:

Since the updater script error is still appearing, it sounds like the phone is not compatible with the ROM.
What is the exact model of the phone?

I was using the hlte one (Unified version) since that worked with CM11. I am now booting up my Note 3 with CM12-1. Thank you! :highfive:
Glad it worked.

Hi all, I have 3 S5 models with the same problem (M, F and FD) and I have been running cm nightlies in these devices, but I am unable to update the rom by clicking update now after the download, the device will just boot to the recovery and I have to manually pick the right file, sometimes it just work (at random) but most of the time I have to pick the file, my guess is that I have the wrong recovery, I tried Philz and I am now running TWRP, which do you recommend?
TWRP should be able to automatically install ROM updates. Also Questions don't go in the General section

Hello,
tried to install Nougat Revolution. It didn´t work correctly.
At the moment TWRP Revolution for nogut is installed. But I´m not abled to mount system or data.
Tried to flash system via fastboot. Everytime I got an error (sparse flash write failure).
At the moment I´m only able to run TWRP but not able to install any firmware because I have no acces to DATA or System. Tried to wipe boath partition. Its not possible.
Any Ideas?
That's a known mistake to be fixed later. For now, flash FW via ADB sideload, it works in spite of the error warnings (own experience).

There are many guides on how to install the stock firmware around. I, unfortunately cannot help you, why don't you try asking directly in the Revolution Recovery thread instead of creating a new insufficiently-named thread? The Revolution dev will be more likely to notice your question and help you.

have you tried the 3 button method?
Thank you for your help.
The only way two safe the phone was to install MM with the 3 Buttons and the patched oeminfo. The OEMinfo only works with B150. With other versions its not possible.
After Reinstall all now works fine! Thank you for your help.

Basically i have a Moto G4 (Athene) with the stock firmware with TWRP Recovery + root SuperSU. I was released the update for Android noutgat, however I started the procedure but does not go forward, virtually restart until the recovery but does not install the update. How do I install the update ??
I'd the same situation, I've removed the root & TWRP, now the installation starts after the reboot but couple of seconds after I get an error w/o any explanation.

Is the bootloader unlocked? How did you flash the ROM? Have you tried one of the pure stock RUU's in these forums? Do you know which version of the firmware is on it? (These are a few questions which may help diagnose the problem).

I think the boot loader is unlocked because I can access the boot loader screen. It said:

Hmm, you may have already done this. Did you flash the 2.41.605.20 ruu in the development thread (it will wipe data, back up prior)? That will place all current firmware and stock rom (which reading sounds like you don't want).
Once it boots to at least the login screen, reboot to bootloader, flash twrp, format data (type yes) then reboot to twrp.
From here (making sure you have rom of choice on your SD viper, leedroid etc...) wipe everything but your external sd card, and install the rom. It should work from here...
I also gave you the scorched earth method of making it boot up.. This most definitely should work. I would be more than glad to help if I can.

Your reboot error appears to be a kernel panic.
What version of Twrp are you using to flash the custom rom/s?
I'm guessing an older one which isn't allowing Magisk to properly root the boot.img/kernel, therefor causing your kernel panics and inability to boot after flashing.
So,....again, what version of Twrp are you using?
You should be using the latest Official build.

Hello,
I got the error " error installing zip file " while a try to flash oos 11.1.2.2.
I try sideload instead by it Failed instantly. I tried to format data and wipe without any change. I also tried to boot other version of TWRP (I currently use a custom version of TWRP 3.6.0), but I always got a Crash Dump error.
I was able to install rom with this version of TWRP before and I have wanted to install PixelExperience but I have forgotten to flash oos 11.1.2.2 before and i think is that witch broken TWRP.
I also tried to reinstall TWRP.
Any ideas on this?

I had that error before from a bad copy of oos. I would download it again and copy to USB again if that's what you're using. Also use this twrp to fastboot boot it works I actually just had to do it a min ago.
