touchwiz 5.1.1 **might** be in the works - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 General

one Europe version of the TAB pro 12.2 received an official 5.1.1 update a week ago or so... I find it strange they got 5.1.1 because Samsung never did any 5.0 versions for any of the 12.2 tab pro regions
currently, we don't have any region over 5.0.2 for the note pro but I think this may be an early indicator that Samsung hasn't retired updates for our device

It's not all that strange. Samsung is known to skip versions.
The NotePro skipped 4.4.4, 5.0 and 5.0.1, and went straight from 4.4.2 to 5.0.2.
The Note 4 skipped 5.0 and went straight from 4.4.4 to 5.0.1, and is now going straight to 5.1.1, skipping 5.0.2 and 5.1.
The Note 3 skipped 4.4 and went straight from 4.3 to 4.4.2, then skipped 4.4.4 and went straight to 5.0.
The Note 2 went from 4.1.2 to 4.3 to 4.4.2, skipping 4.2, 4.4 and 4.4.1.
The S4 went from 4.3 to 4.4.2 to 5.0.1, skipping 4.4 and 5.0.
It's nothing new, they've been doing it for years.
The NotePro will likely see at least one more major update, as it has only had one so far. It shipped with 4.4.2 and recently recieved 5.0.2. Google's contracts are for 2 major updates. That could be 5.1.1, or 6.0 if we're very lucky. I don't have an ETA for that, unfortunately.

while it may be nothing new, it is not all that common. I have been keeping a close watch on sammobile for almost 2 years and typically a major version will not be skipped even if it means they have to push an update of a 5.0 despite Samsung having pushed 5.1 updates to some of their other devices many months prior. same went for kitkat when it was new
I'm not familiar with the contracts you mention, are there any articles on that?
I do remember an Open Handset Alliance that was a semi failure of promises made by several US cell carriers (not google?) to provide updates for like 18 months but that wouldn't even apply to Wi-Fi devices

It is actually quite common. So common, in fact, that every device has skipped at least one major firmware update. Samsung develops each CSC update locally, and they have neither the time nor the manpower to develop every update for every device.
If you cast a quick glance at any CSC's firmware page on Sammobile, you'll see it straight away. (I've grabbed DBT because DBT and BTU are the two largest international CSC's, and usually the first to recieve the update. (after XEO). (except in situations where the firmware needs to be tested and altered, as was the case with 5.0 and its infinite list of bugs, glitches and errors.)

I have no idea what US carriers do or don't, since they bear no relevance on us EU citizens. (And quite frankly their actions in regards to customer privacy terrify me.) But I think this is what you are referring to: http://androinica.com/2011/05/android-updates-for-18-months/
That pledge was indeed the start of the 18 months system, but back then it was a promise. When manufacturers failed to follow up, Google added it to their contracts. (It never made the news because those contracts are confidential.)
It's fairly common knowledge, most people on XDA know about it. Has been for years. 18 months or two major updates.
Actual direct 'This is the contract' articles? No. They're subject to confidentiality agreements. They are, however, mentioned often. This is the same contract that lists what Google apps and options manufacturers are required to include in their firmware if they wish to release it.
http://www.ibtimes.co.in/list-andro...-get-android-6-0-marshmallow-os-update-643594 Under the Sony paragraph.
http://www.sammobile.com/2014/05/09...on-selling-devices-for-longer-than-18-months/
(Any more you'll have to Google, I'm on Roaming and this connection is not what one would refer to as 'fast.' Finding those two alone took the better part of 10 minutes. Not to mention I've only got a maximum of 500MB. Bloody prehistoric service providers...)
Mind you, the period has been extended for Nexus Devices following the Stagefright drama (And I use that term loosely, because the only drama was in the media, nothing actually happened.) from 18 months to 2 years.

note and tab pro are beyond 18 months here
released in the U.S. sometime January or February 2014, so that would have been July or August this year
I think Europe's release was delayed a couple months though

Strange phone model?

Yesterday I changed my note 3 for the third time. On both first phones I had "phone info" installed. 1st one was made in February and I had a dead pixel, second one was made in January and had some problems with the s pen sensitivity, and finally I got this one. So far it seems like a good device, no issues what so ever except for the fact that it has a different csc code then my country (I live in romania) and it doesn't seem to have an update for kitkat available. The previous 2 updated to 4.4.2 right away, this one only seems to have a 33mb security update. I didn't update yet because I plan to root on jellybean and keep it that way until there a safe way to root on kitkat.
I mentioned the manufacturing date on those 2 because they were pretty recent phones, while this one seems to be made in October, so it's from an old batch.
My question regarding it is, what's with the Knox warranty trigger? "warranty bit not found"?
What's that supposed to mean? And what's with the small update instead of kitkat?
The product was sealed by the way and was purchased from a respectable store in this country.

If I'm not mistaken the first batch of note 3 does not have knox container. That's why it's not able to read warranty bit. Let's see what others would say

You might have hit the jackpot - now you have an older (and VERY desirable) bootloader - MI7 - you can root and keep knox 0x0 (even after updates - if you know how to do those right).
The first step is to root with Universal Root De La Vega - there are 2 threads on URDLV and one even has a video.
The next step is to update using Mobile Odin Pro - you can easily update to 4.3 MK2 (and you can return to any other 4.3 firmware) or you can update one-way to 4.4.2 NB4 or NB7 (knox will still be 0 but you will not be able to return to 4.3). But it is essential to do things right - without writing any other bootloader if you are on 4.3, writing with a special sequence in Mobile Odin Pro if you go to 4.4.2.
Stop updates and security updates on your Note 3 and then read everything in the URDLV and MOP threads here at XDA.
So I can have kitkat with 0x0?
Rooted?

When you ask somebody it helps if you quote him so that he gets notified
But yes, you CAN have that (as long as you FIRST have 4.3 rooted with knox 0) - see the MOP thread starting around here for the 4.4 part:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49452031#post49452031
And to answer a frequent question that I get - I decided to stay on 4.3 since I do not need anything special from 4.4 while there are still some (minor but still) problems with stuff like call recording or microSD; 4.3 with all the programs that I have can do everything that I need. I am however still investigating the feedback in various modems.

Yes it is possible.. but i have never seen any point in rooting with knox 0x0 as you cant have a custom recovery. Unless you trip knox.

All I need is super user access and I'm a happy man. Xposed framework and greenify are enough for me.
Thanks for the answers everyone, I'll try to root next week.

Tried to root with De LA Vega, that guide is a shame...
Anyway I'm tired of all these knox stories, Odin and so on, with the nexus devices I had, life was much more simple.
So in the end I decided I'll just run stock and enjoy the device, I'll just have to get used with the ocasional ads and the bloatware that touchwiz comes with.
Anyway, does anyone know why am I not getting the latest firmware update? Like I said earlier, I'm only getting a notification for a 33mb update that says something about security. If I install it will I then be notified about a kitkat update?

The top dogs Galaxy S5 and Note 3 as expected have already completed their updates, meaning you can see them rolling out globally anytime now. The other less famed ones like the Galaxy S4, Note 3 Neo, Grand 2, Galaxy S4 Mini and surprisingly Galaxy Note 2 (LTE & Dual SIM variants of the concerned one’s too) are either “Under Testing” or “Pending” at the moment, hence a roll out it expected to hit the Asian, Australian, African and European regions next month.
As usual keep in mind that the time frames for your specific region/country/carrier may differ widely from the others, but eventually you will get an update if you happen to have the qualified models.

Great news ! I don't see i9195 there but i'm sure that we will receive the update
LOL !!!!! incredible .....
I really believe it ONLY when i will see it "officialy" !!! at SamMobile , Kies ...for example !
official for our phones it will be in march 2015 or maybe later, if now the tests are in pending.
4.4.4 is not changing very much in the firmware so it won't be difficult to implement

True. Especially considering they haven't even fully rolled out 4.4.2 yet. Almost 4 months since they've started, and still not arrived for Nordic countries.
I am also still waiting voor 4.4.2 for my S4 mini (9195 ETL)
So, that are some great now. I can't wait for the official 4.4 for the i9192

thats really good news, if 4.4.4 its released for the korean version of S4 mini in the future will be released to the international version of the phone. just like 4.4.2 was released first to regional versions of the phone (us & canada) and after that to the international version.

update will be stoped at 4.4.4

Since the day Google officially announced Android 5.0 Lollipop in it’s finalized form many manufacturers like Motorola, Sony and HTC have detailed their plans for the future updates and as usual Samsung is lagging behind. Today our sources at Samsung’s R&D division have been able to send us with what is said to be the “very first update road-map based on Android 5.0 for Samsung Galaxy smartphones”. The list is rather short and the only non flagship contender to show up in this road-map is the Note 3 Neo, which has it’s fate undecided yet. The other surprising news is that the last year Galaxy S line flagship, Galaxy S4 is “Awaiting Approval” for Lollipop 5.0, while the confirmed ones include - Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 3
At this moment the update is in testing phase and hence months away from the actual roll out to commence. Also the update to Android 4.4.4 KitKat (final build of KitKat 4.4) is supposed to roll out prior to the Lollipop version. The other Samsung galaxy smartphones like the Galaxy Grand 2, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Note 2 seems to have been omitted from the Android 5.0 Lollipop update and will likely end their journey at 4.4.4 KitKat.

sometimes they add more to the list later on.
still, march 2015 for S4 seems pretty bad too..
I used to think it doesn't matter cause you can install AOSP / CM roms.
Have done that for 2 years now.
this month I switched back and realized it's been a mistake.
Stock firmware is generally more stable, but more importantly there are so many features that you just can't get working properly in AOSP/CM roms
- camera would always crash & become unusable until reboot
- no decent music/video player DLNA streaming
- slow boots
- other limitations due to missing samsung frameworks
i would never go back to AOSP/CM even if it means staying on old version of android
yes pity ...
But as far as i'm concerned ,i will HIGHLY prefer to have a REAL firmware KK 4.4.4 with a great baterry life and full stable ===> a phone very pleasant for usage !
And if ART is good now for near "all" apps ,it will be fantastic .
5.0 Lollipop will nothing to gain more "in the absolute"......just a new look "maybe" (not loved by every peoples ) ,andit would be completely useless because i really dont believe at all that Samsung want to develop a full new firmware with interrestings features for an "old" phone like our S4-mini ......it's useless to just change linux base only (exactly what we have seen when we have updated 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 )
And Samsung don't give a sh** !!! about mid range phones released in the middle of 2013 ..... they only think about S5-mini ,S5 ,last Notes ,Alpha ...etc ... for to suck the market with fierce competition with Apple ( and HTC ,LG ...etc...) ....and they are concerned with tablets too !
I really don't care about this...I think most of us here are waiting for CyanogenMod versions of Lollipop...cleaner, faster and updated more frequently than any other version of Android...

yes !
Cyanogenmod is really the best alternative for standard users who want a "light" system & battery friendly ...
But for our S4-mini ,there are bad chance that CM team don't develop a CM12 at all four our and we have to pray for to have an unoficial port ( i hope that i'm wrong ?! )

Good news to all galaxy note 10.1 (2014 edition) owners, the lollipop 5.1.1 update is on the way but it will take time, also only P60x devices will get the update (2014 edition only) and they are as following [SM-P600, SM-P601, SM-P605, SM-P607T]
"The same update will be available to ALL Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition (SM-P60X) variants only worldwide. The firmware version is [P607TUVUBOI2] and the OTA package size is about 900MB in size."

Apart from that, yeah it is known for quite some months if you had followed that site, it's in these forums that people were blowing out of proportion little things. Apparently that's the pattern of Samsung with all their devices. When they approach end of Life they take their sweet time before updating them for one last time ... that means -sadly- that we won't get Marshmallow, on the other hand Marshmallow -supposedly- (will) have proper multitasking, so my just flash CM13 (or sth)...

If it goes on in this speed, the P600 will get it in a few days. But there is the Exynos/Snapdragon gap, so i think it will take some time for the wifi only users to get Lollipop. Hopefully before the Release of Marshmallow, so we had the latest Version of Android, for a few days
I think that sm-p600 and sm-p601 will get 5.1.1 at same date.
Because that was that happened with p900 and p901 (5.0.2)

There is probably less of a gap than you think because of the Note Pro / Tab Pro / Tab S containing extremely similar Exynos SOCs and already having these updates.

Need to wait from samsung to release kernel sources.
Only with permissive kernel you can get root working.
Otherwise will get bootloop.

So I noticed
I could download firmware from http://samsung-updates.com/ and DL 5.1.1.
Although I solved it by flashing 4.4.2 on Odin.
This is a very positive surprise. Thanks Samsung!
I cant wait for the update, finally is coming OMFG!
Just an advance question out of curiosity - are the official updates likely to make any difference for anything that is not replaced if you are using a custom ROM? That is, would it make sense for me to flash the update for SM-P600 once it comes out and then go back to my current ROM (@joshndroid's temasek 12.1 build), or would that be a pointless exercise?
Folks.
Samsung customer care (India) said the update for sm-p601/600 will come 14 october. (rumors)

That is, would it make sense for me to flash the update for SM-P600 once it comes out and then go back to my current ROM (@joshndroid's temasek 12.1 build), or would that be a pointless exercise?

pointless, that build already flashes kernel and system partition. The only point in doing that is if the author suggests updating the bootloader
can anyone post some screenshots for the update
mine is p601 I can't wait haha

How to Downgrade Samsung Galaxy Note FE (SM-N935F/DS) From Oreo 8.0 to Nougat 7.1.1

Hi All,
I am facing issue of signal loss in my brand new NOTE FE SM-N935F/DS and i am not sure if its due to update from Nougat 7.1.1 to Oreo 8.0.
because as soon as I opened the box after finishing with the initial settings I received update of Oreo 8 which I gladly did that. Unfortunately ever since I am facing this signal loss issue in all Technologies LTE/3G/2G
The Signal reception keeps fluctuating at times I have signal but after a while again same issue persists. It is really heart breaker as all the other features of the phone are working absolutely fine but main reason of phone is to receive calls which I am unable to do so.
Therefore I was thinking maybe if its a bug in new Oreo 8.0 so better try going back to Nougat 7.1.1
As I am new at this Please share the links from where to download genuine Samsung Note 7.1.1 firmware with step by step procedure as how to downgrade it to Nougat 7.1.1 or 7.0 which is bug free would be great of you.

You can downgrade using Odin. Find the Last Nougat Firmware from Samfirmware and load it up on Odin.
If you're new to flashing, modding, Watch a few YouTube Videos.
Did the issue fixed after you downgrade to nougat?.
I have same issue here on mobile network
You cant flash back to nougat, the BL version updated and samsung has blocked down grading it seems.
I cant even flash back to the July update from october , ive had LTE issues on the october update similar to the OP. But i can have fulls bars on LTE and get download speeds of 5 mbps and it should be well over 50 here and it was on the previous update

This is really suck. What's your workaround for this issue? And aslo in my case the phone often showing no bar specially during stand by mode. Has the same happened in your case?

No I have full bars just really slow speeds.
Got another update last weekend which made things work better, they dont typically push out updates back to back so they may have been trying to fix it

OP is still on binary 2 (according to screenshot). So downgrade to latest Nougat firmware is still possible. Only from binary 3 or 4 you cannot downgrade anymore.

Dumb question:
Where do I find which binary I am on? I'm on firmware BRK2 on a new used F/DS
@koreanschoolkid N935FXXS4BRK2 -> XXS4 -> binary 4.
I think it is also shown when you boot into recovery.

Thank you for the info. Unhappy news but at least I can put my dreams to rest now.
@koreanschoolkid why you wanna downgrade to Nougat? Upgrade to Pie, it is much improved!

No doubt. I tried out the s10 and it was quite slick. I'm one of those weird luddites who saves apk out of fear of a bad ui change and thinks that 4.x was the pinnacle of android design.
Been fighting a losing battle against the future for years
@koreanschoolkid I found Marshmallow design much better. However, it's not only the design that changed. All what's going on in the background got much better. Yes, rooting now is no fun anymore, which is unfortunate. I really can only recommend to upgrade to Pie on NoteFE.

Oh gosh. I have a N935K on Android 7 now but the darn thing can't make phone calls. Hooks into T-Mobile LTE just fine and I can hear the other guy but the other guy can't hear me. No winning for me it seems
I truly wish to downgrade from P to O coz I do rely a lot on split screen features which have been dumbed down on the P. I never knew P sucked really hard due to this. Also, the camera UI is too much like iPhones, I hate to swipe between photo and video mode. I've seen my other family members making mistakes due to this on their phones.
If you upgrade to the version of Pie with S4 bootloader you can go back to Oreo. If you went to S5 bootloader you are stuck on Pie. Check last 6 characters of your build number if it starts with U5 or S5 then there's no way back to Oreo.
