Yesterday I changed my note 3 for the third time. On both first phones I had "phone info" installed. 1st one was made in February and I had a dead pixel, second one was made in January and had some problems with the s pen sensitivity, and finally I got this one. So far it seems like a good device, no issues what so ever except for the fact that it has a different csc code then my country (I live in romania) and it doesn't seem to have an update for kitkat available. The previous 2 updated to 4.4.2 right away, this one only seems to have a 33mb security update. I didn't update yet because I plan to root on jellybean and keep it that way until there a safe way to root on kitkat.
I mentioned the manufacturing date on those 2 because they were pretty recent phones, while this one seems to be made in October, so it's from an old batch.
My question regarding it is, what's with the Knox warranty trigger? "warranty bit not found"?
What's that supposed to mean? And what's with the small update instead of kitkat?
The product was sealed by the way and was purchased from a respectable store in this country.

you must have flash other country rom
If I'm not mistaken the first batch of note 3 does not have knox container. That's why it's not able to read warranty bit. Let's see what others would say

You might have hit the jackpot - now you have an older (and VERY desirable) bootloader - MI7 - you can root and keep knox 0x0 (even after updates - if you know how to do those right).
The first step is to root with Universal Root De La Vega - there are 2 threads on URDLV and one even has a video.
The next step is to update using Mobile Odin Pro - you can easily update to 4.3 MK2 (and you can return to any other 4.3 firmware) or you can update one-way to 4.4.2 NB4 or NB7 (knox will still be 0 but you will not be able to return to 4.3). But it is essential to do things right - without writing any other bootloader if you are on 4.3, writing with a special sequence in Mobile Odin Pro if you go to 4.4.2.
Stop updates and security updates on your Note 3 and then read everything in the URDLV and MOP threads here at XDA.
So I can have kitkat with 0x0?

When you ask somebody it helps if you quote him so that he gets notified
But yes, you CAN have that (as long as you FIRST have 4.3 rooted with knox 0) - see the MOP thread starting around here for the 4.4 part:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49452031#post49452031
And to answer a frequent question that I get - I decided to stay on 4.3 since I do not need anything special from 4.4 while there are still some (minor but still) problems with stuff like call recording or microSD; 4.3 with all the programs that I have can do everything that I need. I am however still investigating the feedback in various modems.

Yes it is possible.. but i have never seen any point in rooting with knox 0x0 as you cant have a custom recovery. Unless you trip knox.

All I need is super user access and I'm a happy man. Xposed framework and greenify are enough for me.
Thanks for the answers everyone, I'll try to root next week.

Tried to root with De LA Vega, that guide is a shame...
Anyway I'm tired of all these knox stories, Odin and so on, with the nexus devices I had, life was much more simple.
So in the end I decided I'll just run stock and enjoy the device, I'll just have to get used with the ocasional ads and the bloatware that touchwiz comes with.
Anyway, does anyone know why am I not getting the latest firmware update? Like I said earlier, I'm only getting a notification for a 33mb update that says something about security. If I install it will I then be notified about a kitkat update?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to use Samsung Knox to set up a container for my work email, but I'm unable to find Knox anywhere in my app drawer. I can see it listed in the Application Manager, but there's no way to launch it.
I'm running the MJA 4.3 update, fully stock, unrooted. This is what my download screen looks like:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SPH-L720
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
KNOX KERNEL LOCK: 0x0
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x0
CSB-CONFIG-LSB: 0x30
WRITE PROTECTION: Enable
eMMC BURST MODE enabled
On the About device screen, the Software version, Baseband version, and Build number all end in "MJA". The SELinux status is "Enforcing SEPF_SPH-L720_4.3_0010".
Is there something else that I need to do to enable Knox? I've searched the web and can only find screenshots of the Knox app showing up on a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I've read plenty of posts saying that Knox is now fully enabled in the 4.3 update, but I haven't found anyone saying that they can't get it to work on a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 (just that they want to get rid of it).
Any insight would be greatly appreciated, as this is the only reason that I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to MJA. My work requires an 8-digit passcode for security and will soon be requiring storage to be fully encrypted, and I'm really tired of having to punch in my code any time I want to use my phone.
Thanks,
-Tony
Found this
And here is the Knox app. If you wish to install it.
Please report back if/how that works.

Thank you, leaderbuilder! I was able to get Knox working using the APK that you linked above. I had to enable installation from Unknown sources, download the APK to my phone, and install it. The APK is apparently just a stub to download the full Knox suite (160+ MB). The Knox installation went smoothly and it asked me for a lock timeout period and a password.
Knox works as well as I could have hoped! I can set whatever security I want on my phone (or none), and it only asks me for a password when I want to jump into the Knox container. My only complaint is that I haven't yet figured out a way to use the Google Keyboard in Knox. When I try to type in Knox using the Google Keyboard, my keypresses don't show up. I have to switch inputs to the Samsung Keyboard, and then I can type. I'm guessing Samsung would have to repackage the Google Keyboard as a Knox app and offer it up in their Knox App store that's available inside Knox.
On a side note, I first checked my Device Administrators (referring to the first link you posted above), but the entry for Knox was unchecked and disabled (I couldn't check it). After installing Knox, it's still disabled, but it is checked now:

Glad to hear it worked.
I'm really appreciative of you posting back your results. We need more people to do that to contribute to the community and help out.
I'm sure as more of my clients get the updated firmware on their corporate phones I'll be seeing and doing more of this. Think next week I'll grab a colleagues phone and start messing with it myself. Curious if it'll work on rooted device(s)

Running Sprint Galaxy S4 4.3 Jelly Bean MJA update with CF root access... I've tried the method you posted and at the end of setting Knox up it says "Your device is not authorized to enter Samsung KNOX mode"
Any possible work around for this? Download mode does have Knox tripped 0x1.

You will be waiting along time, knox's purpose is secure phone, and root is to unsecure phone. Knox will never work with root.
Guys i am new to samsung and buying a refurbished S4 9500 india version with 6 months warranty from samsung with 4.2.2 firmware on it for Rs 20,000 actual price is now for new device is Rs 28,000
so i wanted to know that is it safe to upgrade and root it to 4.3 without having knox bootloader ?? ( dont want 4.4.2 because some people said it cant write to memory card + we cant downgrade then)
i dont want to get into knox thing and dont want to void the warranty also. so to avoid knox should i do this ?
1. Root 4.2.2 + install custom recovery ( dont know how to do that because its old firmware and all i can find info is about new firmwares)
2. flash 4.3 knox free stock rom ( i want only stock rom no custom rom because stock rom offers better camera features and shutter speed etc. etc.)
3. if i dont root or install custom recovery in 4.2.2 and simply flash via odin 4.3 stock firmware 2013 December 4.3 I9500XXUEMK9 will it contain knox ???
the main thing i want is to have 4.3 stock firmware with Root + custom recovery But no knox
is this the only things i need to do ?
do i need to keep in mind something else also ?
i am from nexus 4 so u guys must be knowing how we are addicted to flashing roms and kernels everyday but its not at all complicated like this

its surprising that the device is still on 4.2.2
I will prefer checking binary counter and knox status first,it may happen that its already tripped..
if its normal, then check for a Knox free rom then flash it,u can root it later.
also,it will be better if u go to Samsung and get it checked, whether its still in warranty or not(just ask.them for a software upgrade, and when they say all okay, give any excuse and leave..)
and ummm... Welcome to community

should i use cpu z in his mobile to check if its original or fake
it means all those people who are on 4.3 are either not rooted and those who are rooted have void their warranty?
so no way to reset it to 0?

So, I've been too scared to update my unbranded S4 (still on 4.2.2 stock) but it looks like this Towelroot changes the game somewhat.
So, from my understanding, if I wanted to install say, the GPE rom, this would be the process:
1) Install towelroot and root phone
2) Install a custom recovery such as TWRP
3) Install GPE rom
Does towelroot come with a recovery or do I have to install one manually (flashing via Odin?) Is Towelroot compatible with 4.2.2 or would I need to update my phone with the official OTAs? Am I right in assuming updating via the OTA installs the bootloader which comes with KNOX?
Thank you

Hi,
the steps describe are right , you need to root your phone ( step 1) , you need to install a custom recovery ( step 2 , not included in step 1) at this point your warranty will be void if you have a knox enable bootloader and finally install custom rom ( step 3)
As mention by geohot
Definitely invited: AT&T GS5, Verizon GS5, GS4 Active, Nexus 5
May have some troubles at the door but invited: AT&T/Verizon Note 3
Possibly invited: Every Android phone with a kernel build date < Jun 3
what model S4 you have , I know for sure all I9500 4.2.2 have the old bootloader so as long as you do not update the bootloader you can use any method you want to root and have no problem with knox. Confirm this for your phone and DO NOT UPDATE THE BOOTLOADER

Hi ,

Fantastic, thank you. I checked and there was nothing related to KNOX on the Download Mode screen. Guess I'll be flashing GPE now.

I personally use HTC one and am rooted with a custom rom. I had purchased a verizon Galaxy Note 3 for my sister as a Christmas gift and she loves the thing but i guess after loading up junk to it and the bloat already on the phone its gotten slow and Samsung patched out the ability to tether. So she has commissioned me to root her phone for her and find a Debloated rom that's as close to stock as possible. Correct me if i'm wrong but based on my reading Samsung devices have a extra hurdle to jump called KNOX and it will cause you to void your warranty and its unrecoverable from that voided state ? Is what i'm asking possible to do without doing this to the phone if this even happens ? I know the new TowelRoot method is the in thing to rooting Samsung devices but that's all i know about it. Her Note3 is on the second OTA update does this matter ? should i update to the latest OTA ? then root ? Any input would be GREATLY appreciated especially cause you'd help me to get my sister to stop harassing me to do this for her lol

Check to see if the phone is on NC4, most likely you are at this point. If so read this thread here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2787627
Scroll down to post 2 and follow instructions that read coming from NC4 OTA.
If you've never used Odin see here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2576104
Once up and running most roms are good. Alliance is great but the settings are very involved and may a bit much for her. I have the last Baja rom before they became Alliance if you're interested. The s5 port is a work of art as well but more than she's looking for probably. I can't really say for what rom you should pick as that's user choice. Hope this helps.

Thanks for checking and sharing that pic. You're on MJE. Look for the kingo root app online. There's no link on xda. The app is pretty straight forward from what I remember. If she just wants bloatware gone she can download Titanium Backup once rooted and get rid of some bloat.

Happened to my phone too it actually got bricked from PE1. I think they did something fishy to root users to fry their phones.

yea well I went to sprint with my phone to see what the guy would say he saw knox tripped didnt doing anything to fix it said Samsung will not fix whats wrong with the phone even if I had insurance on the line (which I added when my phone acted up to see if they would fix it... there is a way to add it if you had not previously had it...)
Anyways the guy was cool about it told me to go find a clean phone with a cracked screen and he'd swap the board out for me. He also told me that insurance was giving out Note 5's for the broken 4's for just the deductible. So the cost of a broken 4 was not working out I just got a new note 5 instead .... Huge pain in the a$$.
Note 5 sucks cause it does not have expandable memory or removable battery..
I want to root my 5 but I dont want to trip knox the guy at sprint mentioned to me custom recovery images do not trip the knox if I do it in the smart switch app. have yet to look for rooted recovery roms tho.
