Since the day Google officially announced Android 5.0 Lollipop in it’s finalized form many manufacturers like Motorola, Sony and HTC have detailed their plans for the future updates and as usual Samsung is lagging behind. Today our sources at Samsung’s R&D division have been able to send us with what is said to be the “very first update road-map based on Android 5.0 for Samsung Galaxy smartphones”. The list is rather short and the only non flagship contender to show up in this road-map is the Note 3 Neo, which has it’s fate undecided yet. The other surprising news is that the last year Galaxy S line flagship, Galaxy S4 is “Awaiting Approval” for Lollipop 5.0, while the confirmed ones include - Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 3
At this moment the update is in testing phase and hence months away from the actual roll out to commence. Also the update to Android 4.4.4 KitKat (final build of KitKat 4.4) is supposed to roll out prior to the Lollipop version. The other Samsung galaxy smartphones like the Galaxy Grand 2, Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Note 2 seems to have been omitted from the Android 5.0 Lollipop update and will likely end their journey at 4.4.4 KitKat.

sometimes they add more to the list later on.
still, march 2015 for S4 seems pretty bad too..
I used to think it doesn't matter cause you can install AOSP / CM roms.
Have done that for 2 years now.
this month I switched back and realized it's been a mistake.
Stock firmware is generally more stable, but more importantly there are so many features that you just can't get working properly in AOSP/CM roms
- camera would always crash & become unusable until reboot
- no decent music/video player DLNA streaming
- slow boots
- other limitations due to missing samsung frameworks
i would never go back to AOSP/CM even if it means staying on old version of android
yes pity ...
But as far as i'm concerned ,i will HIGHLY prefer to have a REAL firmware KK 4.4.4 with a great baterry life and full stable ===> a phone very pleasant for usage !
And if ART is good now for near "all" apps ,it will be fantastic .
5.0 Lollipop will nothing to gain more "in the absolute"......just a new look "maybe" (not loved by every peoples ) ,andit would be completely useless because i really dont believe at all that Samsung want to develop a full new firmware with interrestings features for an "old" phone like our S4-mini ......it's useless to just change linux base only (exactly what we have seen when we have updated 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 )
And Samsung don't give a sh** !!! about mid range phones released in the middle of 2013 ..... they only think about S5-mini ,S5 ,last Notes ,Alpha ...etc ... for to suck the market with fierce competition with Apple ( and HTC ,LG ...etc...) ....and they are concerned with tablets too !
I really don't care about this...I think most of us here are waiting for CyanogenMod versions of Lollipop...cleaner, faster and updated more frequently than any other version of Android...

yes !
Cyanogenmod is really the best alternative for standard users who want a "light" system & battery friendly ...
But for our S4-mini ,there are bad chance that CM team don't develop a CM12 at all four our and we have to pray for to have an unoficial port ( i hope that i'm wrong ?! )

+1 for CyanogenMod, probably the best custom firmware. Well @arco68, is our maintainer (?) and i think that he'll continue the excellent work that he is doing for all the s4 mini community

Beats audio by Dr Dre By Rock Dev
Xda developer team RockoDev has successfully ported the HTC beatsaudio and also Xloud to any of the android phone [non-HTC]. It sounds better in quality and make it even louder in volume. You may test it with your beats audio headset, you will hear the difference. The Beats Audio is NOT an apk file but in zip instead. You can flash it via CWM or with root explorer. Samsung SG2 beatsaudio version is available too. Check it out after jump.
AGPS Patch Galaxy S II By crypted
Use this if you're having GPS issues (unreliability, no functionality, etc.)
This patch provides a worldwide solution to the GPS issue for multiple devices. Using a general ROM without this has resulted in 10+ minutes of GPS delay. Also, the GPS lock kept being lost.
By using this patch, most people experience a GPS lock within 10 seconds (2 - 20 seconds range can be expected). Typically, a device using this patch will lock onto 7 - 9 satellites. Users have reported up to 11 satellites being locked at once. Without this patch, the average satellite count is 4.

Heimdal Flash Suite v1.3.2 By Glass Echidna Download
Heimdall Suite, an Open-Source Cross-Platform set of tools designed to flash firmware to Samsung devices, has received an incremental update to version 1.3.2. This latest update supports Galaxy S II GT-I9100, Galaxy Player, Captivate, Vibrant, Fascinate, Mesmerize, Epic 4G, Galaxy S 4G, Infuse 4G, GT-I9000T, Galaxy Tab (7 and 10.1 inches) and of course the Galaxy S GT-i9000. If your Samsung device is not listed here, testing is required.
Heimdall has always been a favorite among kernel developers and those who frequently flash the latest kernels because no flashable update.zip or Odin packaging is required. A Heimdall user can simply put their device into Download Mode, and click a button to flash a new zImage directly. XDA Recognized Developer Benjamin Dobell‘s latest release improves compatibility with Loke (the flash receiver on the device) and expands comparability to several new devices.

I can do that, but due the lack of interest. I am forced to discontinue the product. I am sorry, but it wouldn't have been a problem to add versions.

I am actually using it myself and I do notice any difference, but the dsp manager wasn't working, however if you find a flashable audio mod that is easy to install, I am willing to add it to the list.

File Link
Reason why you'd like to add it

Ofcourse it's possible to do this yourself, but the process will take ages since they don't open source the software.
If Samsung would give out the sources of their touchwiz rom, it would be a bit easier.
Porting from the Note 3 for example is really hard cause of the differences in our hardware.

Android updates have always been a crucial part for every android adopter, while there might be fellas who just don’t care about them, most of us feel the other way around. Samsung is certainly the leader of the Android gang, with a wide spread sales network and the ever growing list of Galaxy Smartphones. Today we have details about 13 Samsung Galaxy Devices that are likely to be updated to Android 4.4.4 in the ongoing and following months, thanks to our sources and loyal readers. You can check out all the devices and time frames in the leaked update roadmap attached below.

The top dogs Galaxy S5 and Note 3 as expected have already completed their updates, meaning you can see them rolling out globally anytime now. The other less famed ones like the Galaxy S4, Note 3 Neo, Grand 2, Galaxy S4 Mini and surprisingly Galaxy Note 2 (LTE & Dual SIM variants of the concerned one’s too) are either “Under Testing” or “Pending” at the moment, hence a roll out it expected to hit the Asian, Australian, African and European regions next month.
As usual keep in mind that the time frames for your specific region/country/carrier may differ widely from the others, but eventually you will get an update if you happen to have the qualified models.

True. Especially considering they haven't even fully rolled out 4.4.2 yet. Almost 4 months since they've started, and still not arrived for Nordic countries.
I am also still waiting voor 4.4.2 for my S4 mini (9195 ETL)
So, that are some great now. I can't wait for the official 4.4 for the i9192

Because Samsung still hasn't learned that being beat over the head with a metal pipe repeatedly, still hurts really bad and can cause you to bleed out.
I think their policy is to update the old devices but not more than one or two versions behind the flagships. This way they can sort of say that they do the updates and still keep desirability of the new devices for their newest OS. It makes sense for them but I agree it sucks, preferably I would buy a phone from another company however nothing beats Dual SIM from S5 Mini.
Why this discussion continues ? It is confirmed that S5 mini will be updated to 5.1.1 , which is the latest version of Android for now . And is not behind the latest flagships of Samsung.
It is a luck for us , considering that the hardware is even weaker than S3(I9305) , which didn't get an update to Android 5.

Hey Guys , As we all know that Android N has been released for the Nexus devices and there are also Custom Roms released already for many of the other devices, So I created this thread for discussing about the Android N Custom rom for our device.
Pls dont pm in other threads asking for N...
The good news is we have good devs such as @Android-Andi , @Ziyan and also the Omni team. They are working on Android N.....so it would be helpful if people stop asking for N....and wait for a while
P.S
@Android-Andi @Ziyan Thank you for your hard work on making our tabs awsome....
Anyone???
Considering that MM is stable as a daily driver, I would rather wait for many months on NN to be stable enough although I'm skeptical at this point for OMAP developers especially @Android-Andi and @Ziyan to release Android N for our device since it's 4 years old now but I'll be hoping for what they can for it to happen, at least. I find MM sufficient for my daily usage already, just an opinion. ?

Hah! You got me there ? Looks like it's possible after all, since I witnessed the progress of Android N on Gnex month ago, so it might happen for our device in the finest future. Gonna say, I'm grateful for you on helping @Android-Andi for dreams, on what we thought it's only just a dream, to become reality (A.K.A Android MM, kernel optimizations for stability, unified, etc).

My 12 yr daughter uses my old galaxy tab2. As kids there is always a competition, who has the latest stuff. We decided, not to spoil her by giving her new devices. However, I upgraded her tab to mm and she was thrilled to be the first in her circle to get mm and that too a custom ROM. She wants nougat now . Stability is not an issue as she uses the tab for entertainment and doesn't mind me flashing it frequently. I do hope u guys Release Android nougat , it will make such kids really happy.

no one knows. we must wait for the first build.
Excited
I'm pleased to see that the devs such as Android Andy and Ziyan are working on a CM 14 Nougat port for the tablet. I was skeptical if it would continue to be supported, but glad to see the developer community hasn't given it up yet Best of luck, hope to see a stable Android N release in the near future.

I think people saying Nougat crashes more than Marshmallow is a rumor :/ I mean latest updates are bound to have more bug fixes than their predecessors
While I'm really happy with cm13 (with OC), I'm down to be a tester for CM14. The work devs have done for this device for 4 years is godly.
Let's go

When it comes to custom roms on phones that are abandoned by the OEM, it's common that a new Android version is buggier for a while until the devs have ironed out some bugs. Needless to say, N runs like a rock (and rocket) on my Nexus 6. However, custom Nougat roms appear to be running fine on the trusty S3 already as well (although they're not finished yet). Hopefully the SoC on the Tab 2 follows along nicely as well
