Tmobile and Band 12 (700mhz) - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone using this phone with Tmobile sim confirm that band 12 (700 mhz) is active on LTE. Specs says it's there but is it active now?

It's not activated yet. It will be in an OTA tho

Thanks, hopefully not long!

Can you manually turn things like band 12 on with tweaking firmware or root access? Even if you could, would that guarantee you could actually use whatever band you just turned on?

No its in the firmware and radio imgs. Maybe if someone is good at those hacks

im using phone now and there is no VOLTE on device....from what ive read, it wont be coming either.....smh @ tmo and motorola not gettin they minds right for this beautiful device...get great lte data speed where i live and work though. i dont think band 12 can be activated unless tmo sends the update...prolly gonna retirn the phone tomorrow because of this ....smh

Please link this "from what I've read" infomation because I know I have read at least 3 posts on the Motorola forum (and a couple of Moto rep tweets) where it will come in a future OTA.

How compatible is the atrix with T-Mobile?

Sorry if this has been answered but I'm on the xda app and can't search. I'm thinking about getting this phone and unlocking it to work on T-Mobiles network. How cross compatible is it? Will it work with the T-Mobile "4G"?

Nope, you will only get 2G (EDGE).
t-mobile and at&t use different 3G frequencies, so if you unlock it you will only get EDGE speeds. Not worthy IMO, you have lots of options in your country, i would recommend to wait for the samsung galaxy s II phone.
Will work on the network but data will be at Edge speeds, not 4G.

On the new Nexus S - if you run out of internal storage - what size memory card can you add? Oh, wait they left off the SD card slot on that model. But those super AMOLED screens are really easy on the battery right? Oh wait, if the screen is black they use less juice but not otherwise.
Sorry, had to pick on you. Suffered with the captivate for 8 months..... yeah i drank the Koolaid - now i know better - but samsung sure can spin it.

Just ignore him, hes been trolling all over the Atrix forums. The gyroscope in his phone apparently makes his keyboard so fast that he cant use punctuation.
Unfortunately NOT ...
Inspite every where they said you'll only get EDGE , I Saw one guy saying he got 4G on simple mobile which uses the TMO towers sometimes (both have same frequencies)!!!
I bought the ATRIX on TMO and for 2 days now only EDGE

nowhere do they say you can use an att phone on t mobile 3G. it's been known for years that their frequencies are different and incompatible. you just didn't do your homework before purchasing.
I knew 99% it won't work but i took the challenge anyway ..

That code process is to unlock the phone to enable it to be used with networks other than AT&T. But that doesn't get you data speed any faster than 2G/Edge using an Atrix on T-Mobile's network.
I'm a little confused here. You guys are saying that the Atrix will only get 2G/EDGE speeds on TMobile because the frequencies are different.
I am currently using the Nexus One.. how is it that I'm getting 3G speeds with a phone that is compatible with both AT&T and TMobile then??
Doesnt this mean that the Atrix should be able to get 3G speeds as long as it has the appropriate software? or am I not understanding something..
There are 2 kinds of nexus ones.. one with AWS bands (tmobile) and one with the regular 850/1900 (ATT). That's why you see them work on both tmobile and att. But a single device won't work on both bands.
It is a hardware issue. No software flashing will be able to fix it. If you bought the wrong one then you're stuck with it.

False. There's not a chance in the world that is true. T-Mo USA and AT&T use mutually exclusive bands. No carrier-branded phones carry both bands. The only modern phone that carries bands necessary for 3/4G on either network would be the upcoming, not-for-sale/developer-only Nokia N950.

The Nokia N8 and E7 also have the 3G frequencies necessary for both At&t and T-mobile, as well as Europe/Asia (850/900/1700/1900/2100). However, I agree with you that no At&t/T-mobile branded device carries all the needed bands.

Ah, I see. I didnt realize that there are 2 types of the Nexus One.
I had assumed that since they are not branded by any carriers that they were all the same device.
Thanks
I was really hoping to have my TZones internet plan, which runs at 3G speeds on the Nexus, run on an unlocked Atrix but that doesn't look possible.
Are there any phones newer than the Nexus One that will work with Tmobile 3G and are unbranded by Tmobile?
The branded Tmo android phones lock out my Tzones.

Here's a list of phones that will work with tmobile 3G. Take your pick. You may have to source it from somewhere else if you wish to buy it unlocked and unbranded.
The Nexus S is unlocked and unbranded even if you get it from tmobile. But since you are coming from the Nexus One, it is up to you if its worth the upgrade. Other than the Nexus S, have a look at dual core phones.

Atrix on t-mobile
i am currently running atrix 4g on system version 4.5.141 and android version 2.3.6.. I am rooted and have and unlocked boot loader. I also got the unlock code for my phone and it was successful and i am now running T-mobile sim chip i am only getting the Edge .. I have a thought as if you could change the phone frequency settings with sqlite editor i mean if you can disable the entitlement_check to enable theathering with AT&T's 2gb plan then we should be able to figure out how to change the frequency ratings of the phone to be able to run on t-mobiles 4g ... I wish that someone with a little more Knowledge could help out with this..

In Stock 'Unlocked' HTC One Works On All Carriers (Verizon Unsure)

HTC just released the unlocked One on their website. Follow the link below. $574.99 with no tax unless you're in CA or TX.
Looking at the bands, it supports ALL carriers, unsure about Verizon, the LTE band is supported though.
This HTC One® unlocked version comes with: 32GB of onboard memory and is SIM unlocked. - HSPA/WCDMA: 850/1900/2100 MHz - GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz - LTE: 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz (US)
Unlocked HTC One Product Page
Just to check my findings, I called up HTC and talked to a pretty knowledgeable rep that said that the unlocked version did in fact support Verizon. He acknowledged the fact that Verizon wasn't selling the phone from their stores but HTC wanted it to be able to work on the network. We'll see about that.
So some signs are pointing to it working for Verizon. I already placed the order so I will see for myself in person if this actually works or not. As for all of you other guys, it will work on all other carriers here in the US. With the exception of T-Mobile's primary HSPA+ band (I forgot the actual number). But it does support T-Mobile's newer HSPA+ band (1900Mhz) which is already live in many markets, including Atlanta where I am.
If you know for a fact that any of this info is incorrect feel free to let me know and I'll change it.
Yeah, I'm really tempted to pick this up, vs picking up a T-Mobile unit in the store, but ... not sure on that one band change, from what everyone seems to be saying, If my area in not really provisioned for their new LTE yet, and I'm on their HSPA+ more, than it makes more sense to stick with the carrier specific version.
Eh, guess I'll ponder it a bit more, still in my early morning wake up funk brain wise.
Though I will pass this along to a co-worker who really wanted the One, but was stuck on Verizon, so was waiting for the hope of a delayed Verizon launch. With a 30 day return window, it doesn't necessarily hurt to try. (though I did notice that it seemed to say 30days or 30minutes talk time, whichever came first)

Darn, do you have a link handy?
WCDMA is NOT the same as CDMA. WCDMA is UMTS/HSPA. CDMA is CDMA. They are not compatible and there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY the Unlocked HTC One will work on Verizon or Sprint. They are CDMA networks and do not support GSM/WCDMA/UMTS/HSPA regardless of the frequency band.
Lol no the unlocked is not a CDMA phone... Sucks to be a customer of CDMA carrier. There is always TMo or att you know.

If it works, great, if it doesn't I was already going to switch to T-Mobile anyway. And yes I am in the 1900Mhz HSPA+ area so I will be able to get it, and LTE when it finally comes to Atlanta. Not to mention I ordered overnight shipping (getting it tomorrow) and there is no tax so I will already be getting it for cheaper and sooner than other T-Mobile customers if it doesn't work on Verizon. Either way I win
It will 100% not work on Verizon. It's science. Just like the earth is round. Change the title and OP to reflect this or I will be reporting this to a MOD for deletion due to the mis-information and the possibility that it might cause someone to throw away $700.
What's all this talk about "Just Released" or "now" available? Wasn't the 32 GB Unlocked been available (to pre-order) along with the 64 GB Dev. Ed.? Does this merely mean that the phone is "in stock" now?

Great News! Chinese version works on T-Mobile with LTE

This is a glorious day!!!!
Ok, so I was browsing Youtube for some reviews of the Ascend Mate 7 and I came across this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNVV20U5qtU (website here: http://www.androidheadlines.com/2014/09/huawei-ascend-mate-7-first-impressions.html)
The reviewer (Alexander Maxham) said that he had a Chinese version that was sent to him by Huawei. I asked in the comments whether he had tried any North American SIM cards, and these are the responses I got:
Me:
Thanks for the video. Quick question. I assume you're in North America somewhere, have you tested the Chinese version that you have on any of the North American Networks? There seems to be some confusion about whether there will be a US-specific version of the device or if the Chinese version will give HSPA+ or LTE in the US and Canada.
Alex:
Right now, I have a AT&T sim in there, and it's only HSPA+. But it should work completely on T-Mobile's LTE network. I don't have their SIM right now but should have one in a few days.
Me:
Okay great. If you could give us update when you get it and try it, i'm sure many people would appreciate it. This phone looks great btw. It's almost certainly going to be my next phone (coming from Note 3). I'll subscribe so I can see your full review when it's posted.
Alex:
It fully works on T-Mobile. About the same speeds as my T-Mobile branded LG G3 is getting. Kind of weird usually foreign phones work completely on AT&T and only get EDGE and sometimes HSPA+ on T-Mobile. But it's full on LTE this time around, which is great.
I see no reason to doubt him. And this makes me very happy. Full LTE on T-Mobile!

I find this incredibly ridiculous that news sources, websites, and even Huawei themselves doesn't know what networks the Mate 7 works on. I'll wait for 2 or 3 more people to confirm this works on T-Mobile before buying it. I'd want the 32GB/3GB RAM version, will that work with TMo LTE?

I will be going to Taipei and Thailand in November so maybe I can buy the Mate 7 there. My big worry is whether there would be various models or variations in hardware configurations. I still find it strange that it seems hard to determine if a phone works with a specific carrier until it gets used on that carrier. If the phone says it works on Bands 2 and 4 should it not definitely work on T Mobile's LTE network? I sometimes wonder if the cell phone companies purposely confuse the issue so you will not buy a different phone. I am not an iphone guy but I believe I read that the Sprint and US Cellular Iphones (and maybe Verizon?)
support virtually every cell phone band in the world, if true, that is what I would like to see in a phone. You never know when you might make a wrong turn and end up in Chad or Outer Mongolia!
Bill
Not sure what bands its connecting on... as Tmobile in USA looks like it has 700, 1700 and 1900... but none of those are the reported 1,3,7 LTE FDD bands that the the mate7 is supposed to have.... maybe it also has band 2?
EDIT: If this is true, then it all makes sense how the reviewer was getting full speeds on tmobile. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55468358&postcount=1 + http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55500623&postcount=3IF those bands are available while roaming, then it makes sense as band 2 would enable it. Also band 4.

Yes. From the article:
" This version of the Ascend Mate 7 supports LTE and HSPA+ on T-Mobile and AT&T so I am enjoying it on T-Mobile's LTE network."
He didn't list a specific version, but I'm sure he would have mentioned if it were a US specific version as opposed to the normal Chinese version. So far all of the reviews that I have seen where Huawei has sent out a device have been the Chinese version.
Wonder which Chinese version it is since I want to pick one up next month when I travel. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I don't know personally. Mayne you should go to the article and ask in the comments. They might be kind enough to let you know the specific model number.
I went ahead and asked which version he had working on t-mobile lte in the comments. He said...... "It shows model number MT7-L09. This one has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage"
He also mentioned with his pre paid ATT sim he was only getting HSPA+.
Interesting. It could be the APN with his att prepaid Sim. But at least it works for T-Mobile for sure.

MT7-TL10 the 3 gig gold model appears to support identical bands as the 2 gig model above.
It appears aliexpress has updated the description online to include bands 2 and 4 now

This confirms what I posted in the other thread from the Youtube reviewer (Alex from AndroidHeadlines) who stated that he had gotten HSPA+ on AT&T, but LTE on T-Mobile.
When I Googled the model number (MT7-L09) it brought me to this page (http://consumer.huawei.com/en/mobile-phones/support/manuals/ascend-mate7.htm) which has a US/English support manual for the phone and specs that list bands 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20/28.
MT7-L09 doesn't appear to be on sale anywhere online? I would rather the 3 gig model anyway. Might just pony up and try it. Shows the band's I need supported now. Coming from the note 3 this is exactly what I hoped the note 4 to be.

Yeah me too. I am just worried about ordering from Aliexpress and having it take a month to get to me. They are notorious for taking forever to ship to the US.
I really wish Huawei would get their stuff together and get this device in people's hands. Just put it on your website and let people pre-order it at least.

It's the lowest frequency cellphone band, so theoretically has the best range...
for t-mo at least, it's their answer for being able to keep a cell phone signal inside of buildings. the lower the MHz, the better it penetrates, and like was said, generally the longer the range too.
If you're not on T-Mobile band 12 is worthless to you.

What exactly is BS? T-Mobile is pushing manufacturers to disable band 12 if they don't have VoLTE due to issues calling 911. Until Motorola decides to add VoLTE on their devices, I doubt you will ever see band 12 enabled on their non T-Mobile branded phones ever again.

I sure did. Btw, you should read this: http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...2-lte-support-from-some-unlocked-smartphones/
It contains the reason T-mobile is not allowing band 12 without VoLTE on new phones.

By the way still not buying the reason as b12 is still active upon disabling volte and this thread was created way before T-Mobile spoke about it

You may not buy it, but it is clear T-Mobile is pushing manufacturers to disable it when they don't support VoLTE. I guess it is fun to have grand conspiracy theories but the real reason is clear.

You didn't even give a reason. You just said Motorola is lying. Yet, we know manufacturers of unlocked phones are disabling band 12 when they don't support VoLTE. Clearly, T-Mobile is pushing them to do it as they gain nothing by disabling it for any other reason. I'm not going to believe your random conspiracy theory over common sense.

yes it does
Do you have evidence of that? It has to be certified by T-Mobile so this would surprise me

It supports band 12 and does support VoLte* however the firmware does not have it enabled yet. That update along with a few other features will be in the next release roughly around January.
T-Mobile is certifying it?

Were you able to successfully use MMS? I've been trying every setting I can find online without success
Also, visual voicemail doesn't seem to work on T-Mobile with the unlocked Lumia 950 XL.

well tmobile's answer when i inquired about using the phone before i bought it was "it will work and get full lte speeds." when i asked about wifi calling they said they have phones available that that feature will work on. so i understood that their voice over ip will not work
Anyone have feedback on this

I FINALLY got MMS working on my T-Mobile account. I set all the settings up the way that T-Mobile says to on their website but I could only get normal SMS not MMS or group texting to function. Because of all the reports of it working and I couldn't get mine to work I finally just did a master reset and THAT DID IT. I guess the problem all along was the restore I did. When I first got the phone and did the setup I did the restore from a previous install which was a Lumia 925 running Windows Phone 8.1 and I would suspect that it doesn't transfer properly because when I reset the phone and started from scratch all my MMS settings worked immediately as well as the LTE data.

I had the same problem as you with my MMS not working. I finally did a master reset back to factory and DO NOT restore from a previous build. Good luck.
MMS, no problem, VoLTE, Wifi Calling, another story...
I got MMS to work by simply adding the appropriate MMS APN, grabbed from the T-Mobile site.
IMS is another story though, they're not provisioning it for VoLTE and the rest, because they haven't done the testing yet. It would appear (hearsay from reading various forums) that this is a bit of showdown between MS and TMo, in terms of who's going to do the work.
In the meantime, all the standard stuff works, but it sure would be nice to have WiFi Calling, I spend a fair amount of my weekends in places with no coverage, but good WiFi.
Hopefully someone will decide it's best for the "customer" if these just work, since the firmware is already enabled, it's a bit annoying to be able to purchase the phone, with all the features advertised, but not being able to get a single carrier that supports them (at least in the US, I think there's 1-2 in EU).
