My XT 1095's camera improved A LOT after the last two camera app upgrades.
It performs much better under low light and it stopped doing that horrible post-processing effect that made every picture look like a watercolor painting.
Am I the only one?
Unfortunately, yes. You are the only one.
Is this an update to the Motorola camera? Do you know the version number of the release?
I've not noticed any improvement recently.
Camera version is 5.0.47.7
Sadly, I don't have any before and after pics but the change is very noticeable. A lot of my friends also started highlighting how good my pictures looked, and they had no bias. The horrible denoise effect is completely gone, too.

So you guys have the latest Google Play update? Because I have read the reviews for the Moto Camera on the store page and they all says that the updates sucks, so I am sticking with my old version.

Maybe your problem is scratched camera lens.
After I had noticed the bad camera quality and had changed the camera lens protector the camera had started to work normally.

I am not talking about normal photos. If you want quick edit use Snapseed . If you are playing with RAW files use Photoshop or Lightroom. Thats all. Instead of nervousness you could upload your camera samples, and it would be more clearlier what is wrong.
And yeah, don't buy it. Buy ant iPhone, because as I see, you have visited Xda without knowing, that this is developers page, and people try to get MAX OUT of they devices.
As I sayd, just try Xcam + Xcam setting. +Install advanced drivers, the camera will be as new.

I know some devs have succesfully ported pixel camera for nexus devices to allow HDR+. Is it possible to do the same for the LGV20 so that we can also expirience that HDR+ software?

So this question really irked me, in a good way of course. Whilst studying for my history exam, I was thinking that HDR+ is essentially software based. The Pixel's camera's specs are kinda mediocre aside from the 1.55um sensor—only f2.0 aperture and no OIS; the best part about the camera is the software to back it all up. So, I looked around to see if you could potentially port the camera app itself, which might have the correct algorithm for HDR+. I came across a dev who made the app Camera NX, which in essence is a port.
So here is a brief overview of the app.
And here he explains how the HDR+ has zero shutter lag.
What really got my attention is the following quote:
This mod is just an update to Chow's Camera NX app, which itself is a port of the Pixel's stock camera app and libraries. What that all boils down to is that you don't even need to be rooted to get Zero Shutter Lag with HDR+ mode right now.

Anyways, since I do not own an LG V20 (I hope to soon, once my Note 4 contract expires), you'll have to do most of the testing and report back, if that's alright. Nonetheless, I hope this was helpful!
Thanks for the reply. I did come across that apk and installed it. It does work as a camera but unfortunatly there is no HDR+ present. There is exposure setting and whitebalance toggles. The other problem i notice is that the slow motion seems worse quality then what is found on the stock app. By all means i am no expert bit if any one else has feedback or have tested this themselves and see improovements or HDR+ present let us all know.

actually the hexagon dsp on the snapdragon 820/821 does the heavy lifting for hdr+ which works different between the pixels and the 5x/6p. the latter ones only can do software hdr+. there was an interesting post on reddit about this. currently also searching for a modified google camera app as camera nx is only modified for the nexus phones. the lg g5 and v20 are very much capable of what the pixel does.
It probably isn't as simple as that. But have you tried changing the build.prop to identify the phone as a pixel?
I can't try myself as I don't have root access.

Except Google camera app is not available in the store with stock LG V20 software.
Does anyone know if it's possible to use the pixel camera mod with the wide angle lens? I'm not sure how you would put the ability to switch from regular to wide in the app but is there any way to have it default to the wide angle lens instead of the regular one?

There are reports of the app using the wide lens and for others it uses the regular narrow one. For me on my h918 it uses the regular narrow lens. There is no button for switching like on the stock LG camera so as of right now I'm not aware of any way to switch between them.
I've found nice GCam mode suitable for V20
Is anyone planning to make a camera mod for this phone?
The camera app itself is great, but I really want to have access to a denoise/noise reduction setting, if possible. It bothers me how much noise reduction this phone applies, and I'd love to be able to at least disable it, if not adjust its intensity.
I honestly have no idea how I could go about making my own, since I have no experience there, so I figured I'd ask if someone with experience is thinking about making something.

Shoot RAW. That removes the noise reduction and everything else and then you can try to apply on your own. So far, I haven't seen any decent noise reduction apps though.

Have tried a lot of camera apps with no success. They all have some excessive noise reduction applied. I've already tried open camera - it doesn't seem to make a great difference.
Maybe the noise reduction is applied at kernel or camera libraries level.

I posted here one simple example of the difference in night light: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74176704&postcount=34
In daylight Google camera is marginally better, and very consistent in good shots, the stock camera can sometimes loose focus.
I haven't yet had chance to compare videos, but I think the google camera will also give betters results, as the stock camera has issues in focusing in low light.

tempted to root to install the GCam HDR+ but hesitant to do the tedious work in unlocking bootloader - fastboot - rooting
having the new phone for daily use is awesome, the only downside is the quality of low light pictures.. it's awful :fingers-crossed: my late mi4i takes low light with much better results..
oooh I guess that's why google pixle costs so much more
I recommend to root it. The picture quality is now stunning! Once unlocked and rooted, it is easy to relock and unroot since you know the steps

This because I am getting good photos with Stock camera in low light; I cannot still compare with Google Camera because my device is not rooted (I will root, maybe, after Oreo update).

Thanks, maybe I prefer Google Camera, but in my opinion both cameras have similar (good) quality. Or not ?
On good lightning they are similar (stock has a bit more noise), but when the conditions are not so ideal like on my examples above difference is bigger.

many lower price device have some awesome gcam/mod stuff.but, our g6 not get any port of gcam!!we totally disappointed..
I think you are not exploring this forum properly, there are many stable ports and we all are already using it. You can try this version which is stable so far: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1IJZXYNojIh0bIr07UQLxJd44AZyaWpn7
LG G6 Gcam XDA forum link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ap...stark27-google-camera-mod-wide-angle-t3747263
I used this one but when I compare the photos of the OEM app and this Gcam the processing is identical so I think there is something wrong with this one, the photos from it look identical with the same over-processed look. see photo attached showing OEM crop vs GCam crop (comp1) OEM camera left, GCam stark5.1.018_24_v4.2t3 on right. Then see comp2, OEM camera left and a different LG G6 camera port from GCam on the right, where you can see a nice improvement in IQ with less processing etc. more natural looking detail.
Still on Cstarkgcam v 4.2 on my lg g6 h872. Any newer version worth installing? I tried bsg and arnovas own but cstarks version is better.

I actually thought that cstark looked the same as the stock camera, so choose differently.

so what's your suggestion, should we use t3 version?
Cstark on hdr+ is better than stock g6 cam. I like the little over processed look. Even hdr is greater than g6 cam....heck any ported cam is better than the g6 stock cam. Ctsark's own is stable and no configs are needed. Night mode is a gimmick so leave 6.1 alone.

try this one https://1drv.ms/u/s!AqtOswJbD-nZhog9GnUOQRl_r6ds8Q?e=dvt771 and if you have updated to Pie on your G6 then the one in the one indicated in picture below works well (from here https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-arnova8G2/ ) , just get the settings right and its awesome.

see general settings for photo and HDR settings. I didnt change the video settings as I dont use video, also I enabled AUX button in Settings/Photo to get the wide angle lens option on the camera screen (see screengrab) to switch between the 2 lenses, hope this helps

Thanks. This works very well, however I get some blue squares in the very black areas. Any idea how to fix that?

Here is an example picture. It happens only with the selfie camera.

The selfie quality is bad too. Faces look very soft.
Ah ok sorry i have never ever used my selfie camera but you can try setting the front camera to Nexus 5X or the 6P and then see if it helps. Don't see the photo on your link.
