Xiaomi Camera vs Google Camera [Mod] - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

What is better? the camera app from xiaomi or google? Has the camera app anything to do with video stabilization? If yes it will be better on Google Camera?
P.S: If someone can give me samples(images, videos) from both apps I will be happy

I posted here one simple example of the difference in night light: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74176704&postcount=34
In daylight Google camera is marginally better, and very consistent in good shots, the stock camera can sometimes loose focus.
I haven't yet had chance to compare videos, but I think the google camera will also give betters results, as the stock camera has issues in focusing in low light.

Search here in xda for google camera port, there are many many versions, so you must play with it. And root and enabling camera 2 api is a must for the apk to work.

Oh bummer... don't want to root Guess i'll leave it then...

tempted to root to install the GCam HDR+ but hesitant to do the tedious work in unlocking bootloader - fastboot - rooting
having the new phone for daily use is awesome, the only downside is the quality of low light pictures.. it's awful :fingers-crossed: my late mi4i takes low light with much better results..
oooh I guess that's why google pixle costs so much more

I recommend to root it. The picture quality is now stunning! Once unlocked and rooted, it is easy to relock and unroot since you know the steps

Anyone managed to fix the major lack of image stabilization on this camera?

If you mean the Miui camera, then it's up to Xiaomi to add stabilization.

Sorry, should have been clearer. I've found that blurriness in my photos is a real issue... I don't have root so Google camera is a no go, but seen a lot of people experimented with other cameras in this thread so wondered if any other software better than the stock Mi A1 camera software?

Hello Nitro, thanks for your example.
Did you use HDR Mode on Stock Camera or did you work on focus/exposition time?
This because I am getting good photos with Stock camera in low light; I cannot still compare with Google Camera because my device is not rooted (I will root, maybe, after Oreo update).

Could be a misunderstanding on my part but I'm assuming that rooting will mean I don't get those updates?

Thanks, maybe I prefer Google Camera, but in my opinion both cameras have similar (good) quality. Or not ?

On good lightning they are similar (stock has a bit more noise), but when the conditions are not so ideal like on my examples above difference is bigger.

Huawei mate s or p8 camera port

hey I wondering if it is possible to port the good camera from Huawei mate s or Huawei p8 , even honor 7 . they are the same with lot of good functions. well nexus 6p is a Huawei device too, do u think it is possible ?
It likely uses the EMUI framework so I doubt it. The Google camera app is great and there are other options on the play store if you don't like the stock one
y cant we have few features like using the fingerprint sensor for taking selfie or scrolling? No such app?

Its a Nexus (AOSP based)not a bloated EMUI phone. That's why it doesnt have those bloated features, nor does it need them. I never take 'selfies' or even use the FFC so it's not important to have for me. You have to remember that this is a Nexus not a skinned UI phone so it only has the bare minimum in terms of software features. If it had Huaweis normal UI it would be slower and the phone would be ruined.

Sorry m8 but the stock camera app sucks. No ISO, no Sutter speed, no manual focus, nothing. Fv-5 is great but it needs some bug fixing cuz sometimes is just wont focus and won't capture at all.

None of that is really required on a phone. The stock camera app works great, and doesn't clutter things up with necessary features. I use my DSLR frequently in manual mode which serves a purpose for a real camera; phones don't need manual adjustments especially not the 6P. Every picture I've taken has come out perfectly the first time I took it. I don't need to play with settings like I did on my LG G3, Nexus 6, or S5.

I don't know about you but I really miss the HTC camera app. Editing the photos in real time using the MF, SP, and ISO can give you the image your looking for. Nevertheless, even on auto setting on FV-5 it takes better photos then the stock camera app on the 6p. For me it always seems to be over exposed and washed out.

Google Camera and HDR+

I know some devs have succesfully ported pixel camera for nexus devices to allow HDR+. Is it possible to do the same for the LGV20 so that we can also expirience that HDR+ software?

So this question really irked me, in a good way of course. Whilst studying for my history exam, I was thinking that HDR+ is essentially software based. The Pixel's camera's specs are kinda mediocre aside from the 1.55um sensor—only f2.0 aperture and no OIS; the best part about the camera is the software to back it all up. So, I looked around to see if you could potentially port the camera app itself, which might have the correct algorithm for HDR+. I came across a dev who made the app Camera NX, which in essence is a port.
So here is a brief overview of the app.
And here he explains how the HDR+ has zero shutter lag.
What really got my attention is the following quote:
This mod is just an update to Chow's Camera NX app, which itself is a port of the Pixel's stock camera app and libraries. What that all boils down to is that you don't even need to be rooted to get Zero Shutter Lag with HDR+ mode right now.

Anyways, since I do not own an LG V20 (I hope to soon, once my Note 4 contract expires), you'll have to do most of the testing and report back, if that's alright. Nonetheless, I hope this was helpful!
Thanks for the reply. I did come across that apk and installed it. It does work as a camera but unfortunatly there is no HDR+ present. There is exposure setting and whitebalance toggles. The other problem i notice is that the slow motion seems worse quality then what is found on the stock app. By all means i am no expert bit if any one else has feedback or have tested this themselves and see improovements or HDR+ present let us all know.
Unfortunately I haven't found Google Camera to work on the V20;it works good on the note 5 though...weird. Stinks because there is no option to make photo-spheres with the V20 .
scrap that. I just downloaded the latest from xda...no problems!

actually the hexagon dsp on the snapdragon 820/821 does the heavy lifting for hdr+ which works different between the pixels and the 5x/6p. the latter ones only can do software hdr+. there was an interesting post on reddit about this. currently also searching for a modified google camera app as camera nx is only modified for the nexus phones. the lg g5 and v20 are very much capable of what the pixel does.
It probably isn't as simple as that. But have you tried changing the build.prop to identify the phone as a pixel?
I can't try myself as I don't have root access.

Except Google camera app is not available in the store with stock LG V20 software.
Does anyone know if it's possible to use the pixel camera mod with the wide angle lens? I'm not sure how you would put the ability to switch from regular to wide in the app but is there any way to have it default to the wide angle lens instead of the regular one?

There are reports of the app using the wide lens and for others it uses the regular narrow one. For me on my h918 it uses the regular narrow lens. There is no button for switching like on the stock LG camera so as of right now I'm not aware of any way to switch between them.
I've found nice GCam mode suitable for V20

Best camera app for le pro 3?

Hello,
i am a bit dissapointed of the camera. Quality of pictures are even worser than the quality of my oneplus one.. I dont know why, but is there a app which is especially good with le pro 3?
Which gives the best picture quality?
Thank you.
try google camera, but mine is okay, esp if you browse it on the computer and you'll see the detail talking about the built in APP
In the Telegram group, people recommend Cameringo, A Better Camera, Snap Camera
Stay away from Open Camera as it may hardware-brick your device.

I just bought "A Better Camera". Seems solid so far. A little confusing at first, but the developer seems to keep it updated. Snap Camera has not been updated in quite some time, and is much more expensive.

Camera App alternative

I've got a Huawei Mate 9 Pro with dual cameras and I must admit, the software is magnificent - so many modes and options. Bokeh is achieved through 'wide aperture' and it looks fantastic.
When you look at the OP5 camera software, you're feeling a little underwhelmed. It's shame because everything else is so good!
Is there an alternative?
I see there's "Camera MX", but I'm not sure if this supports dual cameras and the Bokeh effect?

The open Camera apps allows you to be able to capture and render 100% of the details, special effects like portrait mode .. unless they add it to the open camera source coude the app wont be able to reproduce the same mode..
Open Camera takes abit longer when taking pictures with 100% quality but the results is the quality is inded higher than the stock camera app, at least in my experience that is in OP3.
I am impressed by Open Camera. Less blurring and easy to use.
Try OP5 camera apps, its portrait mode is super

my only answer:
for daylight with plenty of light - the stock camera app
for lowlight and HDR mode - GCam HDR+ (no other camera app can replicate how this one does)
:cyclops: I already tried those "other" camera app and paid the premium version.. still GCam wins
