Is anyone planning to make a camera mod for this phone?
The camera app itself is great, but I really want to have access to a denoise/noise reduction setting, if possible. It bothers me how much noise reduction this phone applies, and I'd love to be able to at least disable it, if not adjust its intensity.
I honestly have no idea how I could go about making my own, since I have no experience there, so I figured I'd ask if someone with experience is thinking about making something.

I tried my usual choices: FV-5, Open, Google, but none removed the reduction.
Shoot RAW. That removes the noise reduction and everything else and then you can try to apply on your own. So far, I haven't seen any decent noise reduction apps though.

RAW is great and all, but it's really inconvenient. I have it turned on, but I don't want to have to pull the file up in Lightroom to edit every time I take a photo.
try Open Camera... that usually gives me the best photos regardless of phone

I did. Noise reduction persists.
I'm not really looking for an alternative. I'm fine waiting; I'm fine if I have to live with the noise reduction. My question was just if someone is planning to make a mod.
How To shoot in RAW?
I couldn't find any options to do it.

It's an option you need to turn on in the settings. It'll give you a JPG and a DNG.

Hi!
Have you found a way to tweak the noise reduction applied in the stock camera? It's driving me nuts - the pictures are less sharp than my LG G4.
Thanks

Like I said, you have to use RAW capture in Manual Mode. You can use Lightroom Mobile to edit and convert to JPG.

Well, that will take a bit more effort that I wanted.
Have you tried other camera apps? I'm trying Google camera and Bacon Camera but still haven't reached a conclusion in comparison with the stock camera.

I can look into the camera app to see if maybe there's some multiplier it's using for NR (maybe even add an option to set in Settings.Global), but I don't know how successful I'll be.

That would be awesome. I'm trying other apps but the results aren't better than the stock camera - most of them look a little worse. Maybe it's the sensor that is not that great.

It would be nice to try a port of the new camera app from the V30. Maybe it improves the image a bit.

+1. there was someone doing a port of it over to the LG G6, but with no plans of making it work with the V20 and unfortunately it does not work at all on the V20.

Have tried a lot of camera apps with no success. They all have some excessive noise reduction applied. I've already tried open camera - it doesn't seem to make a great difference.
Maybe the noise reduction is applied at kernel or camera libraries level.

I'd like to find a camera that supports video at 60fps. Focal has a setting but it does not work.
Stock camera does not remember the 60 fps setting for me. I have to set it every time I open the cam :_(

I really enjoy long exposure photography, and just recently my DSLR clonked out so I'm sadly just left with my S5 to fill my photography needs haha.
Is there any app that allows me to keep the shutter open for a longer period of time? for taking pictures of passing cars and creating the line of light effects.
In fact!
I just found an app called "LenX" and it seems to do the job pretty perfectly.
Has anyone else tried this app?

Also buy Donation App and turn off Auto night + night mode from settings, you will see performance difference on low light.Use normal mode and be sure you are taking photos with same settings on eaach phone (ISO, WB etc.)
Maybe your problem is scratched camera lens.
After I had noticed the bad camera quality and had changed the camera lens protector the camera had started to work normally.
+ If you use lower Android version, you can get Mi2Raw working, with allows you to do advanced photo editing using Photoshop.
i bet that you have scratches on your lens, good luck with that

I am not talking about normal photos. If you want quick edit use Snapseed . If you are playing with RAW files use Photoshop or Lightroom. Thats all. Instead of nervousness you could upload your camera samples, and it would be more clearlier what is wrong.
And yeah, don't buy it. Buy ant iPhone, because as I see, you have visited Xda without knowing, that this is developers page, and people try to get MAX OUT of they devices.
As I sayd, just try Xcam + Xcam setting. +Install advanced drivers, the camera will be as new.

hey I wondering if it is possible to port the good camera from Huawei mate s or Huawei p8 , even honor 7 . they are the same with lot of good functions. well nexus 6p is a Huawei device too, do u think it is possible ?
It likely uses the EMUI framework so I doubt it. The Google camera app is great and there are other options on the play store if you don't like the stock one

Its a Nexus (AOSP based)not a bloated EMUI phone. That's why it doesnt have those bloated features, nor does it need them. I never take 'selfies' or even use the FFC so it's not important to have for me. You have to remember that this is a Nexus not a skinned UI phone so it only has the bare minimum in terms of software features. If it had Huaweis normal UI it would be slower and the phone would be ruined.

None of that is really required on a phone. The stock camera app works great, and doesn't clutter things up with necessary features. I use my DSLR frequently in manual mode which serves a purpose for a real camera; phones don't need manual adjustments especially not the 6P. Every picture I've taken has come out perfectly the first time I took it. I don't need to play with settings like I did on my LG G3, Nexus 6, or S5.

I don't know about you but I really miss the HTC camera app. Editing the photos in real time using the MF, SP, and ISO can give you the image your looking for. Nevertheless, even on auto setting on FV-5 it takes better photos then the stock camera app on the 6p. For me it always seems to be over exposed and washed out.

The G6 has a fantastic offering in terms of its tele and wide lens. The stock app is very good. But the videos are too over-processed. Why? Cant LG engineers understand such a simple thing? How difficult it is to provide controls for saturation/sharpness/contrast (color profile) ? To my knowledge there are no custom/third party apps that does all that the stock app does and also provide these controls. Filmic pro does not provide setting 60fps at 1080p and there is doubt about other functions too. Hope LG is listening..
Well, the problem also persist on G7. So I don't think it will be fixed soon. Try HedgeCam2, it's pretty clean camera app, without any preprocessing.

Just tried it. Many bugs for video. Stabilization cant be turned on. Video goes blank from time to time, cant select between the two cameras.. So looks like we are stuck with their custom app..
What a shame LG. How can you miss such a basic feature in an otherwise wonderful app.
G7 has LG cinelog setting

The cinelog is an option that comes with G7 and V30. This can be enabled to get a much flat video with higher dynamic range. My understanding is this is the function of the AD converter that converts the voltages received from the sensor's photo receptors and converts it onto a digital form. LG make their own camera modules so they totally control this process.
The G6 doesnt have this camera module and so cant do it.
But LG is definitely on right track...
