I don't know the answer to your question but I can confirm that the Galaxy S5 that I received from TMobile was in fact LOCKED.
I called the support # and was told that I had to have service and use it for 40 days before it could be unlocked.
I PAID THE FULL PRICE ($720 with tax)!!!
I asked to speak with a supervisor -- after 10 minutes on hold -- no change.
I told the store that I was going to bring it back because I didn't pay $700 for a locked phone. Everyone has been nice but it's locked for policy issues and not for technical reasons. I flew to Canada when I bought my iPhone4.
And, AT&T is worse -- one guy told me 3 months and tech support said it had to be active for 6 months.

It is GSM/LTE unlocked (as are all Verizon LTE devices), but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have T-Mobile's LTE bands (or at the very least it doesn't have all of their bands).
From what I have been reading, on a Verizon phone, calls and data using GSM and WCDMA bands would work. But LTE bands are Verizon specific hence would not work.
Tl; Dr Voice /data using GSM/WCDMA. No LTE.

Does this mean, once unlocked, T-Mobile and AT&T versions would work on each other's networks including LTE?
I also noticed that with S5, there aren't GSM carrier specific versions. Meaning they are going IPhone route with making all GSM phones enabled that for that country's LTE bands. Is that right reading?

I am using the verizon s5 on tmobile. It is unlocked and can be used on tmobile LTE. However there are only set modes. LTE/CDMA GSM/UMTS AND GLOBAL. Which means you can't use lte and gsm at the same time (no lte data and voice calls). I usually keep it on gsm, and when I need speedy data I switch it to lte.

How? If you put a TMobile SIM in the phone, or any other foreign SIM, it boots but receives no service. This is in line with almost all other Verizon branded phones (excluding Apple) -- where the phone works (unlocked) outside the US, but won't roam to ATT/TMo in the US.
Pictures please. For the record, my S5 doesn't register on a network with a TMobile or Australian SIM. The Australian SIM in a Nexus 5 roams to TMobile.

This was probably true about a year ago but the recent releases from Verizon, e.g. iPhone 5/5s and galaxy s4 has been fully unlocked world phones. I'm sure there are a few other phones... I think lg g2? I'm not exactly sure. But I have personally stuck my sim(T-Mobile) into my friend's Verizon phones (s4 and iPhone 5s) and they work right away after a reboot. Only problem might be an edit in APN for data and mms. Just sharing my experience, you should check out your phones again.

Not trying to be a jerk, but unless you tried this process in the actual phone in question, then you don't really know if it works. The phone DOES NOT just magically work on TMobile if you put a SIM in, you receive NO service. Now, I didn't go mess around with APNs -- typically those are only for MMS/Data. This is also true for several other phones:
Razr HD / Maxx HD
Galaxy S3
In the past, when the phones were SIM locked, a foreign SIM would prompt for an unlock code before the phone even booted into "normal" Android. That's not the case here -- because the phone is not SIM locked -- but I do believe it is network locked to VZW only when in the US.
For the record, I did try this in my S5. I will be going to Australia next week and will try a Telstra (or perhaps Optus) SIM over there to see what happens.

It is odd that the apple phones -- and some of the Android phones -- are totally unlocked so that you can use them on ATT/TMobile in the US -- but some (like the S5, apparently) are not. I still am interested to know how some of the other users in this thread got their S5s working on TMobile...
Why would anyone want to buy a Verizon GS5 and use it on T-Mobile? The bootloader is locked and there is currently no unlock method available.

I can confirm the Verizon GS5 is compatible with T-Mobiles LTE network I'm using one now with LTE all you have to do is go to settings mobile network and switch to Global mode some times you'll have to toggle LTE then back to global to get LTE to kick in.
I am able to successfully use my VZ Galaxy Note 3 and my wife uses her VZ Galaxy S5, both devices on T-mobile Edge, HSPA, HSPA+ (21mbps), and LTE (band 4) frequencies. These devices unfortunately will not do DC-HSPA+ (42mbps), but that's not a big deal for us because LTE coverage is good where we live. We have no issues with making voice calls, or sending SMS/MMS, and don't have to switch APN's or toggle between Global Mode or GSM/UMTS mode. We leave them on Global Mode with the correct APN settings.

This is all new info to me. I have an AT&T galaxy S5 that I want to use on Verizon. Is it possible or do I need to trade for a Verizon-specific model?
Anyone having an issue getting LTE on AT&T?
Just curious - I remember having weird issues with devices that aren't sold by AT&T are limited to H signals only. Was hoping I didn't have to get on a live chat with them again to switch to an approved IMEI for LTE.

No issues on AT&T. In fact my DB is about -5 better than with my OPO which had pretty darn good signal.
No problems where I am, picking up band 17 and band 2 just like I was on my s6 active.

no problems here. i feel like i get even better LTE coverage than i did with my old Nexus 5 and Micro SIM card - which was already stellar. maybe try a fresh new Nano SIM Card and make sure they have your new N6P IMEI on your account in their system associated with the fresh Nano SIM Card.

I've had no issues.. I actually went from my At&t HTC One M9 to a Moto X Pure Edition, then a OnePlus2 and now the N6P..... I have great reception and no issues with anything.
No issues here whatsoever either, just used a sim cutter I had earlier to cut down the sim from my note 4. Popped it in and good to go.
No problems going from an AT&T Samsung GS4 to a 2014 Moto X Pure Edition to the Nexus 6P. But, my mom got a 5X as her first smart phone and I had to chat with AT&T to have her line provisioned for LTE. They just needed the IMEI of the 5X and in just a few minutes, she had LTE.
I am leaving post paid service and going pre paid.
I since majority if prepaid US carriers are Sprint, T-Mobile and some AT&T. I want a GS 7 that will support all three carriers with as much bands possible.
Any suggestions or does the Sprint version support (once unlocked) support AT&T and T-Mobile.
Technically, any GSM unlocked phone would work on any GSM network, but that wasn't your question.
I ordered the sprint version to use with cricket (at&t network). What I read, the sprint version will support AT&T better than tmobile. In the end, once rooted, you could add in the band's not supported by default.

Sweet. I have the nexus 6 now and considering getting one for the SD card access alone. Is there a noticeable difference in data speeds with the LTE advanced, does it offer data and voice at the same time?

It just seems that way, or it's because it has a better antenna in general. LTE Plus doesn't get you a stronger signal. The beamforming that helps at the cell edge is a tower-side enhancement. As long as your phone supports band 41, you're able to take advantage of LTE Plus - just not the Carrier Aggregation component.
I am very eager to see what happens in this regard as well. Sprint is notorious about locking down their phones to include very few LTE modes so that the phone is truly only for Sprint. Samsung's CDMA version of the Galaxy phones have been crippled in this way all the way up to the S6.
You can see various phones like the S4, S6, LG G4 and the S7. The S7 CMDA variant does not appear on this comparison chart yet but I'm hoping that it won't need to.

The last phone in that comparison is the iPhone 6s Plus, which is the same no matter which carrier you use worldwide. I really, really hope Samsung does the same thing.
The only other phones with lots of LTE bands like the iPhone on Sprint is the Nexus 5s/6p and Moto X Pure.
PLEASE let LG and Samsung include all the default LTE modes by default on the CDMA versions of their phones!
Edit: nope, Sprint made Samsung get rid of the most important worldwide LTE band, 7, along with 13 and 20. LAME.

And second of all, will an unlocked Sprint phone work on the Verizon network, and will it work overall perfectly when I'm aboard, on the International GSM network? And last of all is there a different in the build of this 2 phones, Verizon S7 and the Sprint S7, besides the bands

Today's news concludes that all US (Qualcomm) variants of the S7 indeed have a locked bootloader except for a select few apparently. Verizon and AT&T lock the bootloader tighter than others, such as Sprint. Sprint and T-Mobile didn't lock the bootloader themselves but rather Samsung. Samsung locked the bootloader to better add security to their consumers and there's been hints they may release an unlock kit/tool for developers but this hasn't been confirmed.
I got Sprint to unlock my G930P and works perfectly with AT&T. The S7, at a hardware level, is the same phone for all US variants where the only thing that changes is the software. Meaning a Sprint phone on the Verizon network would essentially have the same network performance as if you were to use an actual Verizon variant. Once the device is unlocked, at least for me, it knew my sim was on the AT&T network and switched the bands to AT&T on reboot.
Internationally, I'm not sure. There is an option to enable Global bands in one of the hidden menus in self-service but I'd assume it'll cover enough bands to provide you with what you need minimally. (I've never gone international before so can't say from experience)

GSM will work as expected.
LTE, however, will be crippled depending on the country you go to.

According to that list, Sprint purposely took out three very important LTE bands: 7/13/20. Why does that matter? Because much of the world uses these three bands, especially band 7 and especially Europe! Sprint purposely crippled the LTE radio modes for this phone and I cannot understand why.
So yes, you'll probably get normal GSM and some LTE if they offer one of the other bands but Sprint purposely disabling or deleting the commonly used international LTE modes abroad is just anti-competitive and backwards.
Will rooting or unlocking this phone allow the use of the bands that were locked by Sprint?

The splash screen says LTE Plus, not LTE Advanced. LTE Plus is simply the new branding for Sprint SPARK. Was that the OPs question?
LTE Plus is not Sprint Spark , its more in depth. Carrier aggregation by antenna beam forming.

So i saw the G4 went down to 299 on Amazon.com and decided to buy it for my parents.

After purchasing and it was too late to cancel, I noticed a lot of people complaining they were having sporadic issues with the US991 model.
This model was manufactured by LG for US Cellular. They are a CDMA based USA Cellular Provider.

The US991 G4 comes carrier unlocked from US Cellular so if there are OS updates and such there shouldn't be any cases of carrier relocking (YMMV).
All in all if you are purchasing it just for general cellphone purposes it seems fine. Rooting and ROMing is another issue entirely.

We're using one on T-Mobile, and everything is working just fine...no issues so far.
buydig had it for $290 on its eBay store (it went up now) with both black and red leather backs.
LTE bands are OK for AT&T (2,4,12,17) and T-Mobile (2,4,12) in the US.
It's missing LTE bands 1,3,7 which are used in Europe.
WCDMA doesn't have the 1700/2100 band that T-Mobile was using but has refarmed to 1900 in most areas now.
My friend bought the same buydig/ebay deal as above, is using it on Verizon. He just popped his sim out of his dead razr m and it works ok, except it being an unregistered device. His is listed as US99110A for software version, Kernel 3.10.40. It won't do a software update with the sim in (obviously) nor without the sim in it. I guess flashing the US Cellular KDZ over would work, but then it includes all their bloat and there's no way to get back to it's current unbranded status. Would be awesome if it could be updated.

(1) After upgrading to Marshmallow and signing onto Google to synchonize apps, LG Backup no longer works. Icon still there, but no response when clicked.
(2) Upgrading, from G3, happy to report that Facebook app no longer crashes with Acore error -- not sure if that's because (a) settings changed, (b) upgraded from G3 to G4, or (c) Marshmallow cured it
(3) Cannot find wifi calling, which is necessary for using free text on GoGoInflight-equipped airliners.
I like the $275 price, but #3 may be a deal breaker. If can't make it work within budget, must choose between NEW G4 without wifi-calling, or used G4 with it.
Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated!

I don't think wifi calling is available as-is with US991 on T-Mobile, but you may be able to use an app for it. Check out "Hangouts Dialer - Call Phones" app.
can any of you guys confirm whether 3g on T-mobile works? I can see that 2g and 4g LTE are fine, just not sure about 3g since my provider has 3g crossed out for this phone.
StraightTalk won't activate it on one of their Verizon SIMs even though it will work on Verizon. I sent mine back and bought a used Verizon model.

So, if you are in an area that T-Mobile refarmed their 3G from the 1700/2100 band to the 1900 band, then you should get 3G. My understanding is that they have done so in most if not all areas.
Just to confirm, will the US991 will get 4g on both verizon and gsm carriers? I have to switch my vzw sim back to a micro sim before I can try. I'm also going to switch to an mvno in a couple of months, just want to make sure it'll work.

It should work on Verizon LTE since it has all 3 LTE bands verizon uses.

Of course, as far as the phone supports the LTE band the GSM carrier work with and the phone is set to Global.
It supports LTE Band 2/4/5/12/13/17/25. I'm using it on GSM carriers with LTE band 2 and 4.

Just bought a new G4 on eBay with extra battery, battery charger cradle, and extra leather cover for $289 shipped. Brand new. Box says manufacture month was 03/16. Its working great so far. Its on MM out of the box. Threw an Unlimited T-Mobile SIM in it and its working pretty good. Nice.
Hi. I'm wondering if I can get some help with this device. I purchased this device unlocked from my local Rent a Center in New York. Since its unlocked, I am using with my servicer provider Metropcs. Here's where im having some issues. Metropcs offers WiFi Calling on all their devices [ have a LG K7 ] as does T-mobile since they own metro. I noticed that the feature is MIA on my G4. I did some research and found out from LG that the phone itself was originally a US Cellular device. I then called US Celluar. I spoke with their techs and was informed that they don't offer WiFi calling at all with their service, but it doesnt mean the phone doesnt support it. Believe it or not, the tech told me that its more or less a software thing. I went through the stage to upgrade the device to Marshmallow, but apparently its not available. I noticed that all US Cellular LG G4's have Marshmallow. Im wondering if theres a root method that might fix my issues. I looked around and didnt see one for this LG G4 US99111a. I only see them for US99110. Can anyone here at XDA possibly help? Any and all info will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There is not root method yet. Since wifi calling is a metropcs/t-mobile feature you can't get it in a device is not from them, unless someone port a metropcs/t-mobile ROM to other carrier devices.

I kinda figured this was the case, but was hoping. Im wondering though that if and when US Cellular does support WiFi Calling, will an update from LG activate the feature. Either way, its a great phone. No complaints. Just wondering what marshmallow is like on it.
Not sure if the wifi calling feature from one carrier works in any other carrier.

It does with other phones I have had. I owned an Iphone 6 Plus from Verizon. The phone is factory unlocked, and I used it on Tmobile/ATT/Sprint before moving to metro. Verizon initially didnt offer Wifi calling. The feature was active in the phone once I left verizon for the others. So its possible. Hence my confusion as to why its not active with the G4, and why I believe the tech at US Cellular told me that its more or less a software issue.
Iphone is kind of different. But I hope it works with Android

Eventually, Zte is still waiting for Verizon to give the green light. What I'm wondering is, even if Verizon hasn't given the green, would it work if I put my sim card in. The phone has all the bands.

Yeah. I was thinking about that. When the salesmen at Verizon saw my Nexus 6p they had no idea what it was and it has worked fine.
Would be nice if it worked on Veryzone and also had a BL unlock but some dreams are just never gonna happen

According to ZTE, the device has the correct antennas for CDMA usage (and FCC testing documents confirm that they tested CDMA usage). I asked an employee on the ZTE forums the clarify if it was enabled in both the hardware and software, but after watching the webinar that they posted on Youtube, they made it sound like it was disabled in the software. For now, it sounds like CDMA usage is disabled for all CDMA carriers until they get approval from Verizon and Sprint.
I'm anxious for CDMA compatibility, as this would make the A7 the first dual-SIM phone to fully support US CDMA carriers. (the OP3 only supports CDMA Band 0, missing Band 1 for whatever reason, and Sprint's Band 10)
I would be kind of surprised if the webinar were accurate as the specs on ZTE's Axon 7 sales site clearly show CDMA 0/1/10 support with no caveats. It would seem to be false advertising if these bands were disabled out of the box...but we'll see.
EvDO isn't mentioned but it's in the FCC filings and is kind of implied anyway.
Plus, Verizon is supposedly required to allow all band 13 devices on its network as a condition of their 750MHz license...so I'm pretty sure the Axon 7 will work even if not initially.
Agreed on the huge importance of the dual SIM/Verizon thing...that's a major step forward for people who want dual SIM CDMA (I count myself I that group!)

I emailed this guy for clarification and he confirmed his is working on Verizon and sent screen shots to show it...
I'm so close to ordering this phone. A lot of the places have a restocking once it is open. Just want to see if it works out of the box.
I see his phone states Verizon, but it says he is roaming. Can we get a pic with LTE or 4G on the display?

Here is a screenshot showing mine on Verizon and LTE. Still shows as roaming though, but it's definitely LTE speed as you can see.

Yeah so I just went out for a bit. It's really unstable I believe it must be because Verizon hasn't fully certified it to use on their network. The LTE will work for about an hour then it cuts off altogether and just shows roaming. Then if you reboot the LTE is back. I'll investigate some more but for now I'm not sure I'd recommend using it on Verizon. It works much nicer on T-Mobile and ATT
My oneplus 3 shows roaming on Verizon also, but it works fine. Im just not in love with it. So it's going back for the Axon 7.

. Just got mine today and has the same little r by the status bars. Hasn't affected service at all. Only thing is I can't access data while on a call. In Detroit area recorded 60mbps download. Crazy fast. Everything else works perfectly. Sweet phone purchased from Best Buy.

Simultaneous voice and data on Verizon requires VoLTE, which won't be added until Verizon approves it for their network.
Hi everybody - I've used a dual SIM adapter with my Nexus 5x and 6 with Verizon and I've found that the "Global" and/or "LTE/GSM/CDMA (PRL)" radio modes can cause problems with Verizon...the "LTE/CDMA auto (PRL)" is the only one that works properly...I ordered an Axon 7 myself so I'll definitely be experimenting too but just in case someone wants to open the testing menu (i.e., *#*#4636#*#* , "Phone Information") and try this out I figured I'd pass it on...I'm really hoping we can get VZW working perfectly on this device!
Sometimes the Preferred Network Type menu in settings also has this option (see screenshot).
On dual SIM phones I know from my OnePlus 2 experiences the testing menu can be finicky to get to work as I think it doesn't always apply to correct SIM (It seemed to always apply to SIM one on the OP2) so maybe this won't do any good but I figure it's worth trying?
Also, airplane mode may have to me toggled after switching modes to make this work...my Nexus 5X doesn't need this step to make things work but the Nexus 6 does.
I'm in Detroit area as well. I'll have mine in the morning as I'm picking it up from BB. I'll fiddle with the settings. I have both Verizon & T-mobile.

I leave my Motorola devices on "LTE/GSM/CDMA (PRL)" (E2 and G4, and although I don't have one, the Moto X Pure defaults to it) and I have no issues connecting with Verizon. Stick it my Verizon SIM and it auto-connects, stick in my T-Mobile SIM and it auto-connects, stick Verizon back in and it auto-connects. The dual-SIM adapter might be causing the issues, as I've tried using one before, but it would force my phone into "TD-SCDMA, GSM/WCDMA and LTE" mode and neither SIM would end up connecting, and forcing it to "LTE/GSM/CDMA (PRL)" didn't fix anything. Since the A7 is natively dual-SIM, it shouldn't have the same issues.
Also, it seems that only SIM1 is CDMA enabled, SIM2 is GSM/WCDMA/LTE only.

Yeah - agree totally...without the dual SIM adapter, "Global" works just fine on all my devices too...there's no doubt the adapter is the issue.
What made me think of the radio mode issue was the commenter above that said the phone is "unstable..." - that's exactly how I'd describe the behavior of the phone in "Global" mode with the dual SIM installed. It works for a little while then goes to No Service and sometimes shows the Roaming icon for a bit, which seems to be a somewhat similar behavior he was experiencing, though a bit quicker in its onset.
I think the real issue with Verizon is activation, right? If you have a SIM from another device you can pop it in and go, but if you need a new activation is when it gets sticky with Verizon. They give the whole, "it's not in our system" line...

People who have tested the phone with a pre-activated SIM are the ones reporting the issues. Some have been lucky enough to not have any or only minor issues. I'm wondering if it has to do with the bands or frequencies people may be on in different areas.
I really wish we could get a solid answer from either ZTE, Verizon, or the users. I would really like to get this phone but can't take the chance of buying an expensive paperweight.
