Are these the same phone? I thought they were different but when I went to customize the Pure, it gave options I thought was what differentiated with the Style.
What if anything is the difference?
AFAIK, in the US it's the Pure. Everywhere else it's known as the Style.
I think the radios in both phones might be different. Outside of that they are the same phones.
So is it possible to order the Pure for places in Europe?
Hey guys,
posting from Germany. I really love the design of the Pure/Style, but there's one thing that bugs me: Moto X Pure: $399; Moto X Style 499€ ???
I mean, that's more than a 100€ extra for basically the same phone. I recently discovered a method for ordering in the US as a European Citizen,
so I'm asking myself if it was possible to use the Pure edition instead of the way more expensive Style edition here in Germany?
In doing so, may I have to deal with worse connectivity? If it helps: I'm currently on o2.
Furthermore: faster updates. A User review somewhere said that Motorola US usually updates one month after a new Android version; Motorola
Germany however takes two months.
TL;DR: Moto X Pure usable in Germany? Only Advantages.
Appreciate every idea concerning this "problem"!
L.
Main differences are that the Style has dual SIM capability (US Pure does not) and the radios are different.
Style Bands:
UMTS GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ (800, 850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz)
4G LTE (B1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 20, 25, 28, 40, 41)
Pure Bands:
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 900, 1700 (AWS),1900, 2100 MHz)
CDMA (800, 850, 1900 MHz)
4G LTE (B1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 38, 41)
As for using it on O2 in Germany, looks like you would lose 800 UMTS and it looks like O2 may use LTE bands 20 and 3 (e-plus), which the Pure only supports 3 (not 20) -- so you may not get the best use of the speed on the Pure vs the Style.
Thanks for the radio comparison. So the only up side to getting a Pure is the Motomaker availability then? If so, I guess I have to wait for it to become available here in the Philippines. :-/

Just to add... unless I'm going blind or crazy (or both... quite possible), the UK version of the Style (ordered from Moto maker) does not have dual sim.
@Skyerin, if it's ordered via MotoMaker, doesn't that make it Pure so no dual SIM support?

Hi,
I just wanted to create a place where all the Variants are listed for a better overview:
WLAN (Wi-Fi) only
SGP311 (16GB)
SGP312 (32GB)
GSM/HSPA+/LTE
SGP321 (16GB)
GSM: 850, 900. 1800, 1900
UMTS: 1, 5, 8
LTE: 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20
SGP331 ?
SGP341 (16GB)
GSM: 850, 900. 1800, 1900
UMTS: 2, 4, 5
SGP351 (16GB)
GSM: 850, 900. 1800, 1900
UMTS: 2, 4, 5
LTE: 4
SO-03E (32 GB)
GSM: 850, 900. 1800, 1900
UMTS: 1, 5, 6, 19
LTE: 1, 19 ,21
Additional information:
SGP341 and SGP351 are identical in hardware!!
So with a SGP351 FW on the SGP341 you can enable LTE band 4
SO-03E can be debranded with SGP321 Firmware - but the 32GB Memory will be formated as 16GB
Greetings
UserX10
If there is a mistake or you have additional information - please let me know.
Thanks to all users below for providing additional information.
SGP341 is HSPA+ only (no LTE) 16GB.
Bands:
UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1700 (Band IV), 1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I) MHz
GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
I'm looking for a white global LTE model (SGP321), but as far as I can see anywhere, only the 32GB wifi only comes in white (not interested in Docomo branded hardware.
If anyone has any links or reliable purchasing sources with worldwide shipping for this, please post.
Sony Tablet Z
The "SGP351" model number is for an HSPA/LTE variant that appears to be for T-Mobile USA. I am too new to post links but you can find a link to the FCC filing for the device, as well as SGP341, via TmoNews or Wireless Goodness.
Yes, I am keeping a close eye on this one.
Does any of the variants comes with a charger in the box ?
Mine was Docomo version - comes with Headphones & Charging Dock !!

The SO-03E (docomo version) only supports LTE bands 1/19/21
Currently with stock firmware at least anyway, maybe when developers get their hands on a modem files from the SGP321 the other bands might get unlocked, unless its a hardware restriction

Band support is hardware-limited. The only thing you can hope for in some cases is unlocking additional modes in already-supported bands (like Nexus 4 LTE support for 1700 MHz.)
Qualcomm's WTR RF frontends support nearly all bands in existence *but not simultaneously in a single device* - bandswitching and filters are unique to each device.
Take a look at the first diagram at http://www.anandtech.com/show/6541/the-state-of-qualcomms-modems-wtr1605-and-mdm9x25 - the RFFE portion of that diagram differs between each device.

Well I knew that it was likely going to be hardware limited, but staying hopeful that unlocking of additional bands is possible later when more developers get their hands on the TZ.
Being able to use 4G would be a big plus, although I am still perfectly happy with my HSPA+
Wait a minute aint LTE suppose to be backward compatible? I.E should do 3g and HSPA+ ?? I mean I dont have to buy 4G sim just to use with SGP321...
I think you should also clarify which GSM and HSPA+ bands each device supports
SO-03E supports:
GSM: 850, 900. 1800, 1900
UMTS: 1, 5, 6, 19
LTE: 1, 19 ,21
this is from the service menu.

The SIM is the same. The enduser can turn the capability on and off depending which contract he has.
So from this case it is backward compatible.
But seen from the technical side it is not backward compatible, a handover is done between 3G and 4G.
3G/HSPA+ is WCDMA also known as UMTS
LTE is a OFDM modulation
So the technology is completely different

I can confirm that it is possible to flash the SO-03E with an unbranded SGP321 firmware image BUT the LTE working bands remain the same as those that come enabled with the SO-03E: LTE_BC1, LTE_BC19, LTE_BC21. The flashing maintains a locked Boot Loader and hence the bravia 2 engine is retained. I also have an SGP321 which is now running the same firmware as the SO-03E (which is now an SGP321 with 16gig internal flash) but they both have different LTE working bands! The modem/radio software is identical on both tablets but the working bands are different as viewed via the system menu.
Does anyone know where the bands are configured/set as the Qualcomm modem chipset supports all LTE bands..... or is it flashed with the working bands on the chip when produced cannot be reprogrammed/enabled via the Android OS?

US 4g Xperia Tablet Z
A T-Mobile USA compatible Xperia Tablet Z (SGP351) is now available directly from the Sony website.
Bands (by model)
Moto X - Pure Edition (GSM Unlocked with T-Mobile SIM - XT1095):
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 900, 1700 (AWS), 1900, 2100 MHz)

AT&T (XT1097):
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 900, 1700 (AWS), 1900, 2100 MHz)
4G LTE (02, 03, 04, 05, 07, 17)
Verizon (XT1096):
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz)
CDMA (850, 1900 MHz)
4G LTE (02, 03, 04, 07, 13)
Had been hoping the Pure Edition would cover all of AT&T's bands too. Oh well.
If this is true I will return my Moto X. This is bs that the pure edition doesn't support all AT&T bands. Why can't the pure edition not support all gsm bands. Omg I am so angry.

Looks like it does
I wonder how much difference it'll actually make when it comes to connectivity and speed?
I ordered the the pure edition based on reports that the model would play fine with att LTE. I will not return it f it does not get all of the Bands though. I am curious as to why Motorola didn't put all of the same radio bands into the pure edition.
I don't think att uses those other bands yet. Maybe they plan to in the future or something
AT&T only uses bands 2, 4, and 17 in the US currently anyway so the pure edition will be fine.
So i'm from south america and my carrier uses lte cat 3. Which one should i get? The at&t or verizon should work. The thing is, how to get those models without contract..

Thus, it explains the reason for just those bands!
Durp.
There's a lot of half-truths out there about the Pure Edition working on AT&T. It's true that it supports AT&T's major LTE bands, but it doesn't support them all. If you're OK with having access to most of AT&T's LTE network, then it's probably not an issue.
This is from a discussion that I started on G+ Moto X forum:
"Almost all the LTE in Vermont is band 5, and I frequently travel there for business and pleasure. The HSPA+ network is unusable in places like Burlington.
For the second year in a row, however, the unlocked Moto X doesn't allow its users from accessing all of AT&T's LTE network. I think this is a fact that a lot of news outlets and members of this community leave out because it doesn't affect them. The blanket statement by +Motorola Mobility and members of this community that "it is confirmed to work on AT&T" and the like is misleading and only true if the standard of "working" is that it can at least connect to some sort of network, just not necessarily the current generation network."
It seems like the Pure Edition is mainly geared toward T-Mobile. It is missing band 12, but not every where has that. Tmo operates on band 4. T-Mobile is "pure" so it makes sense lol jk

LOL. I think it is just plain stupid from Motorola to have two GSM models for the US market. Do they really used different hardware to cover the different bands or are they just disabled? First would be completely stupid.
I'd much rather that the Pure Edition have all the bands of the AT&T flavor, but as stated by @sabbotage, it would appear AT&T only uses 2, 4 and 17 in the US anyway:

I wonder if that info is even all correct. That's always what I went by, but it shows band 5 being strictly US Cellular and a few posts back the one person said Vermont is almost all AT&T band 5. So if that is correct then AT&T must be starting to just roll out band 5.

AT&T uses 17 as the main LTE band in the US, 4 in major cities where overhead is high and 2 is just starting now for overhead refarming the PCS spectrum. Nowhere do they use 5 at all. The phone will work fine with AT&T.
It's the same mess from the 2013 MotoX
XT 1053 = XT 1095
XT 1058 = XT 1097
I can't believe they still release a UNBRANDED PURE version with less LTE band support than the AT&T one.
XT 1097 will be used in canada also, europe, parts of asia and is the one selling in brazil since the beggining of september.
So if you want a true LTE global phone, you are stuck with ATT.
Copied from link below:
Bring your own device to AT&T
You can bring your own phone or tablet to AT&T with no annual service contract, if your device is unlocked - not programmed to work exclusively on another wireless network, and will work on one of these GSM network frequencies:
•3G UMTS network in the 850 / 1900MHz bands
•4G LTE network AWS / 700 / 850 / 1900MHz bands
Check your device manufacturer's website to see which frequency bands your device supports, and for information about unlocking your device.

will the att version work on european lte?
I'm planning on getting a preorder in with Clove UK...
Looking at the frequencies and bands listed it looks like it will work in North America on AT&T and in Canada ...can anyone confirm that the US model is EXACT same as UK ?
Pure Edition bands (US version):
Networks
LTE cat. 6 capable
WCDMA
CDMA
EV-DO

GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)

4G LTE (B1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 38, 41)
Style bands (Int. version):
Networks
LTE cat. 6 (up to 300 Mbps)
WCDMA
CDMA
EV-DO
TD-SCDMA
GSM/EDGE
Bands
UMTS GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ (800, 850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz)
4G LTE (B1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 20, 25, 28, 40, 41)
Strange. The international version says it will work for CDMA. But no CDMA bands are listed. It looks like it will work with AT&T and T-mobile. But its hard to say about software updates. I'd just wait for the U.S. Version. Since it will probably be announced in the next day or so. Since there is just pre orders for the international version with no release day. And it might even release later.
I think I'll pass on Clove..with exchange rate works out $600 CDN !!

Oh man, I'm so jealous. I'm literally on myUS.com right now trying to decide if the shipping import cost is worth it.
You aren't getting the Play or Pure. I heard Ceh'neh'deh' is getting the Moto X Po-tato edition. Comes with free hand warmers and maple syrup.

It's so weird too, the Style is available in other Commonwealth nations. I don't see why Moto hates Canada so much.

The mobile industry hates you. Three year contracts? WTF?
There are no 3 year contracts here anymore, thankfully. There haven't been for a while.

Hey everyone, thanks for taking the time to try and help me out! I am possibly going to spend about 4 months in Hong Kong, starting with this upcoming January. I am really having trouble figuring out if this phone can be used there. It seems like it has the bands for most of the 3G networks there, but can anyone possibly help me confirm this? I would also love LTE, but I don't think this phone has the proper LTE bands for Hong Kong. I tried contacting T-Mobile (I currently have Verizon but may get T-Mobile there), and they told me to contact a Hong Kong carrier. I found the number 2 carrier there, and sent them emails and Facebook messages, and have not heard back. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Basically, I just want to know if the MXPE supports 3G and/or LTE bands in Hong Kong. If it does, I won't have to buy a phone to use while I am there. Thanks!
P.S. The Hong Kong carrier I am looking at is Hong Kong China Mobile.
Well here are the bands that the US MXPE supports:
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 900, 1700 (AWS),1900, 2100 MHz)
CDMA (800, 850, 1900 MHz)
4G LTE† (B1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 38, 41)
According to the LTE wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks#Asia
HKCM uses LTE bands 3, 7, and 40
Looks like bands 3 and 7 are pretty prevalent in HK, so chances are that you'll get LTE (but obviously not 100% guaranteed).
3G wise it looks like they use: UMTS 850, UMTS 900, UMTS 2100 - so you should at least get 3G.

Awesome! It seemed like I was gonna get 3G but I was having trouble making sure that I would get LTE. Mainly because I looked at a Xiaomi Hong Kong phone and it mentioned FDD and I think TDP LTE and I was really confused!
My wife's Nexus 6 got LTE on the local PCCW carrier (now called csl) in Hong Kong earlier this year. So if the Moto X has the same bands for LTE you should be good to go.
As a side note my Nexus 5 did not get LTE but I was still very impressed with the 3G speeds. Wish the US has speeds like that for 3G.

Really appreciate the feedback. I will most likely do either csl or China Mobile Hong Kong, depending on pricing and reception.

Smartone might be worth taking a look at also.
FYI not all prepaid plans have 4G or LTE. csl just started offering it on prepaid within the last year. I don't know what other carriers have LTE on prepaid so you will need to do some research.
I am a local HKer, using CSL and my Moto X Style from the UK can access all the LTE band in HK. We mostly on 1800/2600 Mhz that is Band 3/7. I remember the Pure from the US do support the HK bands. I almost bought the US version to use in HK, but given up because Moto Maker doesn't allow me to proceed without a US credit card.
