I do love my X, but I have grown a little tired of the size and form factor. I am a little worried I might be disappointed with the battery life and a possible resale value on the INC if I do make the switch.
Anyone had a good experience going to the INC form the X?
I haven't had an X myself but I don't know why you should be concerned about resale value..you're using the phone.
The form factor of the DX sucks IMO, it's bulky and ugly.
The Incredible's screen is much nicer quality too, even the SLCD version. When comparing the screen sizes it's like quantity vs. quality.
If you're into custom ROMs and such, the INC is a great phone.

Only thinking about resale to help me buy a new phone when some newer versions come out (I had used the new every 2, even though its gone now, on X release date).

I can assure you not to worry about the resale value because, INC has a higher resale value than DX. INC is about $152 while DX is only about $96.

Hrmm I wonder why that is. I have been trying to look at what people are selling these for in the forums.
I had the x and switched to the dinc. HTC does a way better job with Android if you ask me. The community does much better with HTC devices as well. Sense is a must have for me as well.
Even though the evo sold mass amount of phones, I think its too big. I the x was just as big and drove me crazy. I like the size of the dinc. With the evos 1500 mAh battery in my dinc, I can last all day no problem.

I had an X and returned it for an Incredible. Part of the reason was because the Incredible was free and the X had cost me $200. That said, the Incredible feels faster, even with slightly slower hardware, thanks to HTC's superior software. Motorola's software package is pretty terrible.
I made that switch. The battery life is definitely worse on the incredible. I missed the big screen at first. Made the incredible seem extra small coming from the X. I have an slcd incredible and even that screen seems to have much more contrast than the Droid x. I like running cyanogenmod and custom kernels so im enjoying the incredible.

I'm actually confused myself. On htcpedia there is the 1500mah for $40 for the incredible .... but the 1500mah for the evo is $30... are they the same and does it matter?

I went from an Incredible to an X back to the Incredible
The X had nothing but issues, and screen wasn't nearly as gorgeous as the AMOLED one.
The Sense UI is the best UI you can get for Android, in my opinion hands down the best.
The hardware of the Incredible feels faster too like another poster said, on the X my friend and I were in a parking garage waiting to get a GPS signal, i pulled my Incredible out and mine found our location when the X was still looking for 10 more mins.
The X is also too tall, it doesn't use the right screen ratio like the EVO and ThunderBolt will.
The developer community is the best on EVO/Incredible vs Droid 1/2/X
and I also develop themes for Incredible which i'll be moving on to ThunderBolt
I just got an inc keeping my x to try this out. Only two things so far I don't like:
-can see the touchscreen sensors on a white background(emails or web usually)
-touch screen isn't quite as accurate as the x
-there was a hair under the glass screen. Looks like the screen isn't that tight around the body. Compressed air blew it right out though.
On a positive sense KILLS blur! The overall feel is great, better widgets, comfortable formfactor.

I have BIG hands and I could fly texting on my X but on this, Im hitting backspace more than any other key, even with auto correct. The reason I traded was to be able to customize more which is definitely better. Another issue is with games. The Inc is slow to respond and it glitches and pauses all the time playing homerun battle 3d. The X NEVER did that. I don't know, they both have their positives and negatives but my hands alone are the reason I'm trying to trade back to an X. BUT I will come back to HTC when the Thunderbolt comes out. NO DOUBT, cause sense destroys blur. always had to use Luancherpro on the X but never on the Inc because of the custom roms...

What do you mean by the touch screen isn't as accurate? My friend and my cousin both have the X, my brother has the Fascinate, and I have the Incredible. I've used all 3 phones extensively and in my experience, the X has the least responsive touch screen of all. Do you mean accuracy as in trying to click on small links on web pages or something? If that's the case it might just be because the screen is smaller; if you're having trouble you could try highlighting the link or button that you want to click with the trackpad.

i have the droid incredible and i bought the droid x on the week it came out.
Immiatlely i was dissappointed at the same time some things were great.
The low audio on the navigation even with the windows up made it unusable with turn by turn directions... im sure they fixed this.
The ****ty Moto UI = **** sammitch.
The below average quality of the lcd, it looked washed out and bland compared to my incredible.
The large 4.3 inch screen was awesome to surf on.
it was thin for a large phone.
It was new.
I have had many phones in the past and none of them gave me the same kind of user experience as HTC and sadly the iphone.
If i was technically retarded and was an old woman i would have kept my iphone..
But nobody besides HTC has made a better phone AND UI...

Well I had to trade the INC back because there was dust collecting under the screen. I am absolutely in LOVE with the phone compared to the X. But the big question I can't decide on now is:
Do I sell my X and go buy an INC retail so I at least have a 1 year warranty on it or buy one used and hope for the best (buying a new one would probably cost me 230 or so).

Yeah games was the only thing, but I haven't played one game on my X except for paper toss. Not such a big deal to me.
I started on an X... rooted it, ROMed it (to the extent that it can be, anyway), and tried to be patient while the devs cracked the boot...and got tired of waiting. I traded it to a friend straight up for an AMOLED DInc after 3 months, and seriously, there's no comparison. I love the freedom to load CM, or Ruby, or SkyRaider on my phone. I love the ability to remap the soft keys on my HTC or use QuickDesk or PowerStrip (neither of them can be done on the X due to the locking down of the hard keys by Moto).
The only two things that I miss about the X are the bigger screen, which I really liked, and the fact that Moto's build quality is very good (it always has been), but that is it. I'll never buy another motorola product ever again unless I hear that it is open- and not because I'm some sort of super-dev, either- simply because I get better support from the dev community whose ROMs I run when I have a problem than I've ever gotten from Moto or Verizon.
The X had pretty impressive specs, but it was absolutely weighted down under Blur... SOOOO slow. I didn't even realize how slow it was until I rooted and ROMed it using rubiX, which is truly an awesome ROM considering how locked the X is, but even then it really had a lot of stupid issues (random rebooting, etc.). Then once I found out that I couldn't connect to the 802.1x wifi at my school (a known motorola issue which STILL has yet to be fixed on the DX and D2), it was over.
I've gone DInc and never regretted it.
As far as the screen, I really think that SLCD vs. AMOLED is personal preference. The colors on AMOLED are suuuuper saturated, very "thick" looking to my eyes. I don't mind SLCD screen colors or look at all, but they're definitely toned down compared to AMOLED.
What about the processor speed? Well, both of them have 1gHz processors, and with the current battery technology we have right now, I really wouldn't want much more than a that- anything faster just eats battery, really. I get some lulz from all the spec queens out there who OC their phones to 1.5 and higher, and who have to have the latest dual-core processors- they're going to spend their whole lives plugged in to the wall cuz their batteries won't last 6 hours, and then complain about bad battery life. My 1gHz snapdragon loads pages, flash, and videos from the web with no problem. I've seen the AnandTech reviews about the DX's processor being slightly faster than the DInc's, but then you have to consider Blur and (REALLY) crappy Moto software and bloat (VZW navigator, Visual Voicemail, City ID, etc.) slowing everything down again. My CM7 / ADW EX DInc is hella snappy, and I get through almost 36 hours per charge (HTC Imagio 1700mAh battery) with frequent use. No OC/UCing, totally stock.
I AM looking forward to LTE tho. That should be a real improvement. Anyway, I'm off the soapbox. Hope this helped? I dunno. I'm sittin here drinkin coffee and saw this thread. Good luck.

I continue to hear only good things about the Moto X and I'm tempted to pick one up at the $350 sale price. I currently have a Droid DNA (which is on par with the 2013 flagships) running Sense 5 - it works well but has it's annoyances, however I don't know if it will actually be a good idea to upgrade from. My thoughts/concerns:
-Size: Going from a 5" 1080p screen to a 4.7" 720p screen is going to be a big change, especially since the Moto X screen is actually about 4.3" with the on screen buttons. However, I've found the DNA to be too big sometimes (especially with the power button on the top, it's my biggest annoyance) so I may like the slight downsize.
-Camera: The DNA takes great pictures, and I love the Sense 5 camera. The Moto X camera however sounds like its below average, so this would be a clear downgrade.
-Wireless Charging: Having a Nexus 7 and DNA I rarely plug anything in anymore. I've got 3 chargers between my house and office so this would be another adjustment with the Moto X.
-Root: I don't care abut an unlocked bootloader but I need root (TiBu, Greenify, Tasker). I wasn't planning on getting the DE (too late now anyways) but the hassles of getting root with each update worries me.
Those things are my biggest concerns. I'm very much interested in Moto X's software features and quick updates though (among other things). I've thought about just getting a Droid Maxx (keep the big screen and wireless charging) but not for $150 more and slower updates.
Also, I'm the kind of person that switches phones about every 6 months (buying/selling used usually). I get bored or I find something that annoys me about a device. The DNA's resale value is dropping real quick (from $300 a few months ago to just over $200 now) so the sooner I sell the better probably.
So, for anyone that's come from an S4, One, G2, etc - do you regret it? Can anyone sway me one way or another?
I came from an s4 and don't regret it in the least. Actually, I do miss the ir blaster a bit, but that's it.

I came from an S4 and G2. I honestly don't miss those devices. They're definitely powerhouses but the Moto X is just an all around better device...for me at least. The difference from 1080p to 720p isn't that noticeable since the ppi is still high on the X. If you compare both side by side and zoom in on stuff then yea you're bound to notice something. The camera is pretty good. You can check out the picture thread in this section to see some pics. I have the dev edition so rooting is easy but I'm sure the regular ones will be rootable with future updates especially if more devs get this device with the sale.

Im very happy with Moto X. I have had (this year) Note 2, Razr Maxx, SG4, HTC ONE and LG G2. Size and features are what did it for me.
I think the two biggest things that are likely to disappoint people coming from a flagship phone to the Moto X are going to be the camera (mediocre, especially in low-light settings) and the AMOLED display (extremely saturated, this is moreso going to be the case for people coming from LCD screens like the Nexus 5).
I came from a Nexus 4, to a Nexus 5 for almost a couple week, then to the Moto X. I am loving it so far. Like you, I've been so used to wireless charger and this is probably the only feature I kind of miss.
Size was actually one of the deciding factor for me. Nexus 5 was slightly too big for my taste. The size and the build quality makes this a really nice phone to use.
Camera is not so great on the Moto X, but is more than what I need. The Nexus lines never had great cameras, either. Not sure how it compares to a DNA.
Ultimately for me, active notification and Moto Maker are the features that make me switch to Moto X. Maybe it should for you, too?
I bought a DE yesterday and I currently have a One. I am anxious to see as well as the One can sometimes be too large for my liking especially with the power button on top. I am thinking the screen and the aluminum body are going to be the only things I miss - the dev support on the One has been great lately too though.
I came from a Note 3, and the software on the X is just so much better. I always feel like I'm using Gingerbread when I use Touchwiz, but the X is a very nice 4.2.2 experience. The Active Notifications are wonderful as well!
I think the thing to remember about the X, is that you must look past the hardware. Its hardware really isn't great, but the software is like a testbed of all of Google's neat ideas that they didn't want to test in the Nexus line.
I ordered one of the VZW developer versions yesterday, and I am excited to switch from my GS3. However, I do hope development picks up after this sale because I can't seem to find much for this phone.
But rest assured that out of the box, due to the AOSP nature of the phone, it will feel smooth and speedy compared to many other flagship phones.

I am kinda of afraid to switch from s4. I am on custom ROM 4.3 and kernel with all the goodies and tweaked screen colors to my liking. Camera quality is obviously good, screen is near perfect, some development in forum, battery is very good on S4, everything works with 0 bugs.
I like moto x design and feel, don't care about specs, but I do care about those too blue or too yellow screens and as well as camera quality. Some photos I've seen at link above of moto x are horrible.
I came to the X from Nexus 4/5 because of the common sense design, and I am hopeful the industry takes note of its success. It seems most phones are going out of their way to employ technology solutions that are looking for a problem.
Design the phone to fit your hand, duh! Ever picked up a Samsung device?
We pull these out and turn them on a hundred times a day... one button at the top right to do this is silly. And voice commands are great, but if you have to pull out your phone and turn it on to execute them... well, you get my point.
And while we should all keep phones locked when out and about, having to always enter your pin is tiresome. Kudos to Apple fingerprint scanner, but trusted Bluetooth and nfc is even more convenient.
And I don't use my phone for photography... I have an slr around my neck when I want to take pictures. To me, phone cams are for capturing a moment you weren't planning on, and hence need to do it as quickly as possible.
These are the common sense issues the Moto X addresses that other phones don't. Hopefully the X2 will address even more.
Yes, I will miss some aspects of the Nexus 5, but I don't use any of those a dozen times a day. Wireless charging is probably the most missed. I am done with the spec race, and want a phone that works better.
While you can have a cool titanium and composite hammer, if it is not weighted effectively for the task of driving nails, it's of less use than an old steel one.
I came from a G2 and before that a S4. I don't miss the S4 one bit, I do like the G2 like its knock knock feature and its form factor is nice (big yeti hands). But other than that I don't miss either of the phones over the Moto X. I will be ordering a Moto X DE today or on the 9th so my wife can get the Moto X I currently have and I get a DE device. She is currently using the S4 and before that she and I were GNex users. She is liking the S4 but she was instantly drawn to the Moto X the evening I picked it up from the VZW store.
The display on the S4 was nice to me. The G2 is just plain sexy and blew away the S4 IMO. The Moto X screen is nothing to laugh at. I do like the G2 display over the Moto X but not enough to make it a show stopper.
The form factor of the S4 was not bad, the size was not a factor with it, the same with the G2. I did like the G2 over the S4 as it felt not as cheap. The Moto X form factor and build quality puts Samsung and LG to shame. The Moto X feels solid, they went back to their roots on this one. Makes me feel like I got the awesomeness of the Droid 1 and the Droid X and not the joke quality of the Bionic. I am not afraid of the Moto X might break when I hold it like I did the S4.
Speed wise.. The S4 blew my GNex out of the water, very fast and once I put CleanROM, Eclipse, or CM 10.2 on it the slight home stutter of the horrible TouchWiz launcher was gone. The G2 to me made the S4 feel sluggish and just not as spunky as it should be. With the G2 I am pretty much stock of the factory software but I did root it to debloat it and to also use G2 Xposed on it for the proper button placement that I like.
The Moto X is holding its own and I feel it is able to run against the G2 with everything I do in a days time. It is also able to do the gaming I like with no issues what so ever. Now if you do testing and all that then you will not see any of this based on those numbers. But if you actually use the device you will see it is not an issue.
The camera on the Moto X compared to the S4 is good. Comparing it to the stock camera on the G2 I feel the Moto X beats the hell out of it. Now with the Camera MODs for the G2 that are out then I will say the G2 is better way better. Comparing the Moto X camera to the N4 and I feel the N4 is better. But to be honest if I want a good picture then I will ask my wife to use her DSLR camera and take the picture for me. but for a camera phone it works. My smartphone camera-fu is not as strong as most but I might as well not even enter the race if you want me to talk camera with you. But for a typical user I can take a good picture and it does its job. Compare my camera shots to my wife camera shots using the same hardware and she beats me every time. Her take on the smartphone cameras are they are good for when you need a quick pic here and there but she prefers to take pictures with her DSLR camera over anything else.
You will not miss your phone when you switch to the Moto X. I am loving the near stock of Android on this device and I do like some of the features from Moto like the assist, trusted devices, active notifications, and the Motorola connect which replaced airdroid for me. Motorola is back to doing things right so far with the Moto X. Battery life is great with the Moto X as I am a pretty heavy data user with streaming media, web browsing, XDA, Reddit. I do about 10-60+ minutes of calls a day along with checking multiple gmail/email accounts. Screen is on 2+ hours everyday and I can go a full day on one charge and have just a pinch left over. With the GNex it was only possible with 3 extra batteries or a plug. The S4 could almost last the day but needed some power loving during lunch. The G2 could last till I got into the car and plug it in at the end of the day for me. The Moto X as I stated does last through my work day without the need of a charger near me as long as I don't go over a 12 hour work day with 2-3 hours in the car for driving to and from work. I am going to pick up one of the Moto battery packs as it is slim and doesnt take up a lot of room for those few days I go past 12hours.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm going to stop by the Verizon store today to play with one but I'm thinking I'll just try and get one tomorrow during the sale. If for some reason I really don't like it, I can always return it or sell it for near cost. Kind of makes me wish I got the DE yesterday so I wouldn't have any root worries, but I don't need the extra 16GB and I'm looking forward to having a custom designed phone. The community has always prevailed anyways.

although i am surprised you say N4 camera was better then Moto X, I tought N4 wasn't good at all compared to S4. I am not a fan of taking pictures with phone, but all my N4 pictures went straight to trash while some S4 pictures are keepers for sure.
I'd say the Moto X camera is between the N4 and N5 personally. Moto X camera is inconsistent and produces more grainier photos than N5 in my usage.

i really think part of the reason there's less development is that the phone is nearly perfect out of the box. I got my dev x before any sales and was looking for any reason to return it and couldn't find any
Well I just found out touchless controls don't work if you use a lock pattern or pin. So that's kind of a bummer. But I really liked how the phone felt in the store, and with free returns its pretty much a no risk chance to try it for 2 weeks.
Came from a DNA myself and an very pleased with my X. I'm already looking forward to a second-generation model. That said, the only thing I miss from my DNA was the burst mode picture capture which is replicated in this phone's software but not implemented as well.
I can from a DNA and a LG G2 and honestly, the only thing I really miss is the wireless charging. I still use my DNA from time to time (recently giving it to my bro since he broke his windows phone) and the screen is giant compared the moto x but for day to day use, its not noticeable.
I'm really struggling with this one! Would really appreciate any other users' experiences between these two specific devices.
I have both sitting here and here are my initial thoughts:
--Thought the ergonomics of Moto X would be far superior to M8 due to weight and height, but actually doesn't feel any better.
--Cameras are a tough call: X has higher resolution (obviously, with 13MP vs. 4UMP) but M8 is quicker, and seems less "noisy" despite lower res.
--Active Notifications on X are a great concept, but I didn't realize they're motion-sensitive. I have it sitting on the armchair of the sofa next to me, and every time I move even a tiny bit, the screen comes to life. A bit annoying.
--Love the near-stock experience of the X. Also REALLY, REALLY love Trusted Bluetooth Devices on X! This is huge. (I know this can be done via 3rd party app on M8, but not if you utilize a pattern lock).
--Biggest gripe: the AMOLED screen on X has nice, deep colors, but I find the classic AMOLED discoloration (warm, yellowish-green tint) to be highly pronounced and IMO, really pollutes and detracts from the entire screen experience. Especially next to the M8.
Well, I don't have an m8 but have had an m7 for a long time. The only cons I can think of going from One to X are:
Only 1 front facing speaker
Amoled screen is amoled screen
Camera isn't as refined as far as ease of use, things like touching to refocus an area I still haven't figured out I just keep taking pictures...and agreed they can be grainy. But I'm one of those "I have an expensive DSLR that takes better photos" guys. If I'm going to a place I know I'll want photos of I bring it, if not the X will do.
No IR sensor for controlling things. Never really used it much for myself as much as I did to troll people at their houses messing with their stuff so that isn't a real con unless you like to troll.
Other than that the X is > in my opinion, but again I haven't had a 8 just a 7 not much changed so I still feel I can weight in on this.
Really just having moto assist is awesome. IIRC you can turn off moto display/actions (setting that handles hand gestures) so you don't have to worry about randomly triggering it while on the sofa.
The one thing I had to get used to was it acting like a notification LED. If I have one it will blink in and out slowly. Again it can be turned off but I'm growing to like it a lot.
Best part of all you already said. Near stock android experience!! With the promise of L shortly after it comes out! HTC will get L too but not til they reskin it, etc etc so X will get it faster and its still stock...soooooo...
I currently use the M8 and had the original X last year. I've owned the M8 since day one but am switching to the Moto X 2014. It has to do more with the originality as I'm customizing mine and the value adds Motorola builds into their software. Trusted Devices, Moto Voice and Display not to mention the Assist just were icing toppers. I believe this device well get software updates quickly like previous model and as recent outlets have demonstrated, the Moto is very durable. Battery life should be fine from posts I've seen here and my experience with the original X. I think Motorola does something with their governors to put the device in deep sleep quickly and ramp up CPU by anticipating with the sensors. It's a looker for sure and though I will sacrifice stereo speakers, Motorola for an exceptional job with call quality and service reception.
I have an M8 and my Moto X will be here in the next week hopefully. My main worries going to the X are worse speakers and worse battery life. Both are excellent on the M8.
Apparently the X speaker is almost on par with the M8's twin speaker setup. Very crisp sound and hardly any distortion. The reviews have all said the speaker is excellent.
I hate HTC Sense UI. It can be confusing and comes with extra stuff like Blinkfeed that I don't really like and am unable to uninstall.
Also the M8 gets updates much slower than the X.
The build quality is superior on the X. They did a bend test video comparing it against other models and they said the X had the best build quality.
M8's camera is slightly better though especially in low light. The aluminium body feels really nice too. If I had to buy one, the first thing I'd do is to get vanilla Android on it but it would void my warranty and require root.
I actually think Sense is the best Android UI out there. Even better than stock. More features, better design and more consistency over the whole thing. Maybe L will change that. However, the wait time for updates is probably gonna force me to sell my M8. Shame but 2.5 months just to get the 4.4.3 update is way too long.
I'll chime in. I had a m8 from release and while it is a great phone I prefer the x. I like the feel in my hand more. The way the glass curves into the phone is amazing and much MUCH less bezel on the x feels more polished. The camera from just testing for a week on the x is better but not miles better. Sound is on par a bit tinny but loud and full for the most part. I prefer a stock ui to a skin so that is a huge plus. Being on Verizon we don't have a nexus and honestly this is a real REAL close second. Now the bad about the x. Battery. On my m8 I could go an easy day. With the x I gotta be close to a charger at the end of a work day. I am a heavy user so your mileage will vary for sure.
How do the speakers fare between the two? That's the real question!

L is the actual release that has the UX very consistent, even more than KitKat. finally there is some consistency. i think L will look better than Sense when it releases

i agree with your thoughts on look and feel. i also like the slightly larger screen. I use 2 devices, the M8 for work and the Note 3 for everything else. i'm going to use the X as a work phone for 13-days and make a decision to keep my Note 3 or return the X. if the X came wth 64GB storage or had a microSD slot, i can say for sure the Note would be relegated to the phone drawer or eBay.
I found the M8 too tall, too heavy, and too loaded with both carrier (AT&T) and HTC bloat. The top power button was a PITA. I went back to my 2013 Moto X. The 2014 X has a bigger screen than the M8 in a more ergonomic, better looking, and smaller package.

Exactly the same feelings here, also spent most of my time between the M8 and new Moto X with the last Moto X. The One M8 is beautiful, as is Sense 6, but it just isn't nearly as pleasant to use.
I have a M8 and X 2013.
Screen in M8 is absolutely beautiful. From that I have heard X 2014 screen is not anywhere closer to M8. That might be a deal breaker for me.
I do absolutely hate sense. But sense 6 is not too bad actually. Sense have come a long way last few years. However, I still prefer AOSP launcher.
Battery on M8 is huge compared to X 2013. I dont read that X 2014 is anywhere close to M8. That might be a deal breaker as well.
Traded in my M7 for the Moto X. The X has much better radios.

The M8's speakers are the best of any smartphone on the market. Nothing else comes close in clarity and bass reproduction.
I guess it depends what is most important to you. The only M8 I would consider is the GPE, and the difference in price from the X would not be worth it.
I'm a bit late to this, but I thought I would throw in my 2 cents. For the record, I haven't received my new X yet (still being built) so the Moto X stuff I'm going to say will be based off reviews mostly and my previous 1st gen X. I have owned the M8, but I sold it to buy the Moto! If you're looking for awesome battery life, the M8 has the moto beat...I would finish the day (12-15hrs, moderate use, rooted using CleanROM) with 40-50% battery left. I have a feeling that the Moto won't get anywhere near that, nor do I even expect it to. I prefer OLED display much more compared to any other technology, the X is far superior to the M8 in that respect (personal opinion). I also had a problem with the backlight of my M8 becoming seperated from the LCD and causing a lot of bleed through on the bottom. Moto Voice and Active Display are far superior to the swipe actions you get with the M8, as far as ease of access of the phone. Sound quality of the M8 is amazing if you're an audiophile, both headphone and external speaker quality. The X has stock Android (almost), which is always a plus! You'll get L a lot sooner than HTC too! Also, from my experience, the duo camera on the HTC is pretty lack luster...I mean, it looks pretty neat physically, but the pictures it takes are mediocre at best. I'm not really expecting the Moto to be better, but I kind of expected more from the HTC.
If you are on Verizon, then at this point in I would get the m8. I am struggling with this now. I want a phone that I can switch roms and root. I have unlimited data so I am "stuck" with Verizon. I also like the m8 having a sd card slot where I can store 64gb worth of video /music for a $30 micro SD card. I don't like amoled, on my past phones I have had bad burn in. That all being said, I can't justifying buying a 7 month old device that had to last me 2 years. Hopefully Verizon wows me with something that is also unlockable or at least root able.
I've only briefly played with a 2014 X, and own a 2013. Now I own an M8....i have to say, the M8 blew me away and still does comparing to the 2013 X and N5. It's an amazing machine.
I can't compare everything to the 2014 X..... But they are probably close in many aspects.... Except battery life. I get 24 hours with 8+ screen hours on my M8....and from what I've seen in the battery thread here, the X doesn't touch it there.
One other thing that would make me lean towards 5he M8 is that development is booming. I doubt the X will get very busy comparatively.
So weigh your needs and wants and decide what is best for you. ?

Both unrooted.... Battery is probably the only big difference.
So I have the choice of either getting a Nexus 5 or a Moto X (2014) but on paper these two phones are pretty good, not much between them. I really don't know which to get. So for those of you who have used both or at least one of these devices, what are you opinions on them and which do you prefer? Hopefully this will help others too!

I original had the Nexus 5 but it broke. Really badly. The repearability of the Nexus 5 is not good and now my phone just no longer works. Should I stick to the same or try something new?
Why would you get a nexus 5 when the 6 is available? no matter what a phone is going to break if you don't take care of it. you don't need a screen protector the the moto x. the glass is nearly impossible to scratch since it's gorilla glass 3. take care of your phone and you won't have to worry about it breaking. other than that, there are over a thousand spec comparisons between the two phones on the web.

See I'm not all about specs and hardware, more about personal user experience with the device. Accidents happen, I took really good care of my Nexus 5 but it fell out of my hands because of someone else mucking about around me.
The Nexus 6 is way too big for me. I loved using my Nexus 5 and I would happily buy it again but the Moto X looks very appealing. I'm all about stock android so.
I currently own both, and now that I've gotten a Moto X 2014, i won't be going back.
The build quality alone makes it a better option. It FEELS so good in the hand, and that weight...UGH!! so nice.....
The Nexus 5 has only 1 leg up on the moto x, and thats qi charging. BUT, i'm thinking of getting a bluboon *spelling* receiver and trying that out...we will see.....
the moto takes better pics imho and has slomo recording!!
go with the X, you won't regret it....the battery life is the same and with 5.0 we will get project volt and won't need bigger batteries anyway....

This guy really nailed it for the main part. QI charging is deal breaker for some but I don't care. I don't mind plugging it in since I can use it while plugged in but if it has to sit in charger, I can't really use it comfortably. I've had multiple N5s since I enjoy stock Android but I keep going back to Motorola since they've added some very nice features to just bring that little extra that you flashed roms for.
Build quality, radio, reception, screen (IMHO), feel in hand, camera (slightly, not software) and loud speaker kill N5 any day. Moto X 2014 is not a perfect phone but LG build quality is the worst. Loud speaker and radio/reception on N5 is a joke IMHO.
When I had my 2013 moto x, I decided to try the Nexus 5. Bought it, it arrived, toyed with it for 5 mins, then promptly put it back in the box to sell it to a friend. I thought the 2013 X was better than the N5 off usability features alone. The 2014 X completely dominates the N5.

The only thing the N5 has over the X is the well-calibrated LCD screen.

Totally forgot to mention the loud speaker... It's amazing how loud it really is. I also owned an M8 (hated sense) and Moto isn't "better" but it is really really close. Actually wakes me up when I need it in the morning.
Also, I have noticed that I am on LTE a lot more often on the Moto than I was with the N5.
I use the hand waving thing a lot more often than I thought I would as well.

Yeah, N5 would have such a hard time keeping up with LTE. I was mostly on HSPA+ because radio pretty much sucked.
I am coming from M8 as well and X may not have the same quality and deepness, but it's very very loud and surprises you at times for being just one speaker. Equalizer is pretty good by default on X as well.
I love the texting from Chrome browser and the X talking to me while driving. Oh and sleep mode saves your screen some energy by not turning it on at all if put screen down or in night mode. Software features are actually useful unlike gimmicks IMHO.

You've sold me with that. I guess I will just have to deal with no tempered glass etc. I mean I keep good care of my phones but I don't want to run the risk of accidental dropping like my Nexus 5, guess I'm going to have to. I'll just buy a phone sock or something :laugh:
Only thing I'll miss from the Nexus 5 is the notification light (Moto Display is still cool but something about that LED gives it the edge) and Paranoid Android ROM but Android L seems perfect as it is right now. Also I have fairly small hands and the Nexus 5 was the PERFECT size. 2014 X isn't that much larger so it should be all fine! Many thanks!
I own both, and while they are both amazing phones, the Moto X is a pretty massive upgrade from the N5. Not necessarily in terms of speed (though the X is faster), just in terms of overall experience. I feel like the N5 is just a no-frills reference device (which technically it is, I guess) but the Moto X is the ultimate luxury smartphone. I have owned upwards of 20 different smartphones since 2009 including most of the major flagships, and never in my life have I held one this high quality before. The Moto X is the complete package, and I firmly believe it is the best smartphone ever made. The ONLY thing I wish it had was Qi charging but considering everything else the X has to offer, it's a minor compromise. You really can't go wrong with either phone, but my recommendation is the Moto X, without hesitation. Get the Pure edition if you can.

Pure Edition? I'm assuming that's one directly from Motorola? (I'm the UK by the way! I know about American companies like Verizon taking ages to push updates and ugly branding etc)

The Pure edition gives us an unlockable bootloader, because the AT&T and Verizon models are locked down. I'm not sure how it works across the pond though, as long as you can unlock your bootloader than you're golden.
Both are amazing, in my opinion the Moto X is the Nexus 5 2.0
Better specs all around (albeit nothing to write home about it), better battery life and touchless control its superb

I haven't ONCE missed root or any ROM since i got the Moto X. i was always flashing on my N5 to get the features that come with this phone out of the box.
We mentioned build quality, i honestly believe my Moto X is of better feel than the M8. The M8 always felt slippery and cold, this phone just feels good.
I also splurged and got the moto care for 80 more bucks. 3 replacement phones over the next 2 years for anything i warrant. I will take full advantage of that service i promise you.
Exactly my debate a month ago. I've got a thread on here someplace about it. It came down to price vs quality and customization. I got the .edu discount (alumni account), so the difference was about $125 on a 32 GB. At that, the X with a wood back was worth it to me. If $ are tight, I think the Nexus 5 is the best option. If $ are tighter than that, then the Moto G (we have a couple of those in our household as well).

I totally agree that the X feels nicer than the M8. I honestly wasn't all that impressed with the M8. It kinda gives off a "hey look at me, I'm metal" vibe without actually being all that nice. Like it's made out of aluminum just for the sake of being made out of aluminum, for bragging rights, if that makes sense. There just isn't anything special about it... and those godawful bezels, ugh. The Moto X on the other hand is just... elegant. It's very mature, and no part of its design is superfluous. I keep saying it and I'll keep on saying it- the Moto X is the nicest smartphone ever made.
On a side note, my friend just got the One E8 which is essentially just a polycarbonate version of the M8 and I like it a heckuva lot more than the M8. I think it looks nicer and feels nicer than its aluminum brother.
The Moto X is like a Nexus 5.5. Physically a big step up from the Nexus 5, feels premium. If the Nexus 6 size puts you off a great successor. Outside of a Nexus there is no other manufacturer that will truly give you a stock feeling. Is it worth the price to upgrade? Not for everyone, but I wouldn't have gone to any other handset.
The development on this phone may not kick off massively, which would be a shame, but I wouldn't force yourself to adapt to the Nexus 6 just because its a new Nexus device. I'd either stay on the Nexus 5 or choose a Moto X.
If big devices don't bother you though its Nexus 6 > everything else.
I moved from the even older nexus 4, huge jump for me but only in day two of using it and I'm really on the fence if this is right phone for me. But it is a nice stock feeling phone.

I had the nexus 5 and hated it. Had great specs but the cheapest design and actually stuttered a little bit with animations.. least favorite phone so far besides the s4. I'd go nexus 6 if the screen isn't to big for you[emoji12]
I'm torn right now. I want a bigger battery and the camera on the 6P seems better. But I really like Moto Display and Moto assist.

I think if the Pure had come out a few months ago things might be a little different. They waited too long and the Nexus is just a better device. Add to that the shipping issues and pushing people's 14 days into the nexus announcement and well you get what you get. I'm glad mine took so long to ship now. I'm not getting stuck holding this turkey when everyone in 3 months is still asking where their Roms and updates are.
Going back, either getting a Nexus 6 64GB for $340 plus tax and saving $155 (32gb, wood back, sd card...all three total $495 plus tax) or spending an extra $5 for a 32 GB Nexus 6P

Only why I'm even considering the nexus 6P is because of the amoled and battery size. Other than dont care for the other features including the fingerprint. Definitely like the looks of the moto x better. Still deciding. Hmmm
Keeping my Mxp. That phone is ugly with the camera hump. I don't really care about the fingerprint scanner. Camera on my Mxp is good enough for my needs. The form factor on the Mxp is great, it is the perfect size. The Nexus 6P looks as big as the Nexus 6. Coming from a Nexus 6, I don't want a form factor like that anymore. With the sd card slot, I haven't streamed any media or music on the Mxp and that saves on a lot of data. Battery life is ok, but with the quick charger it is a non-issue.
Anybody know how much the uk 6p will retail for? I'm going to return mine when it eventually arrives
Just found out that CA residents have up to 30 days for return! Not that I want to... I like the look and my design of the MXPE, but the battery is disappointing somehow... still deciding.

I was considering the pure but I see there is no roms yet. Seems a bit behind compared to the new moto g. The 6p will probably be my next device IF I can finance it through T-Mobile.
my 30 day return period is up like Oct 25 from Amazon... and I'm hearing the nexus phones aren't even shipping until November? yeah, i think I'll hang on to this bad boy for a bit, and wait to read reviews on the 6p with that steamy hot 810 in it, and who knows about huwai build quality or who's screen they use... if it's not samsung amoled, or its like previous gen samsung amoled like Motorola used to get, then no thanks, I'd rather have this LCD.
if i end up wanting it, I'll just get it and either sell the moto or hang on to it who knows.

Already pre-ordered 6P. Some of Moto's features that set the XPE apart are now coming to both Nexuses (quick camera access, wake up when picking it up). I can't even get 3 hours SOT with the XPE. :-/ I'm also thinking of N and O releases. My X1 just got 5.1. And the nexus will have ROM support long after that. Sorry Moto, I'm outta here.

Don't forgot no sd card slot
I don't trust the Huawei brand, and since the NX5 is limited to 32gb, I'm keeping the MXP. Sure, it won't have the development that nexus devices do, but I'm confident we'll see enough to keep me happy.
I'm keeping my Moto X, looks better, does everything I want, cheaper... If I change my mind down the road we will see but they packed almsot the same stuff in a larger form factor. Who knows how it will preform either. Also if you watch the 5X hands on from android athority it sure looked like it was having mis touch issues like the G4 has... I really hope it was because he missed the screen looking through his camera cuz that is what led me to ditch the G4 and if it moved to the nexus device... watch out! At least patches will be quicker.

-Already in my hand no waiting
-Proven front facing speakers that work well
-some water proofing

-No wireless charging
-No fingerprint reader
-LCD has horrible blacks, even compared to the G4 :-/
That's all I have. I would like to reserve full judgement until I see this thing in real life and maybe I will jump, but for now I'm happy
Now that I have my pure in I can say 100% it's going back. My opo is better and I'd keep it over the pure. I can't get over how bad battery life is using chrome or maps. The build quality also feels cheap and I see lots of micro lag that I didn't see as much even in the opo. I'm very disappointed in the pure.
Going back to Motorola and waiting on the nexus p.
