The Nexus 4 without any doubt.
But if your budget allows, you may wait and see what samsung has to offer. Also, you can consider the HTC One.

budget is not a big problem but why buy cheap phones when cheaper 1s can do the same or even be better
the htc one i was thinking about to get but i dont like the not removable batterie and that there u cant use a sd card thats a big letdown
the s4 is big as the s3 or even bigger i guess :X dont want a phat phone like that its kinda like a tablet lol
If you want removable battery & SD card then your choices are limited.
S3 is not a lot bigger than the HD2 & has removable battery & SD slot plus prices have dropped a lot. Another plus point is strong custom ROM development & device specific apps that can make ownership more pleasurable.
i have the same problem like OP. But I want an open source Phone.
But i think HD2 is the only one around here.
I like Windows Phone, because I think it has many potential. But I also like Android, bevcause of costumisation. But I also hate Android, because of the stupid app-menue, and bull****-marketplace.

I 'tried to get you' (see what I did there?) but I couldn't. Y U NO MAKE SENSE?
@OP I can very strongly recommend the Nexus 4. Don't bother with a One, there's no significant advantage to getting it over a N4 and definitely no justification of the extra cost. The GS3 is a great device and runs very well, but having used a N4 I genuinely see a difference in speed between the two. If money isn't an issue and you're adamant about having an SD slot and removable battery, wait for the GS4 and get one of those instead. It's expected to launch fairly soon and I think you'd regret buying a One right now when the GS4 will almost certainly be better.
If you're used to the 'hackability' of the HD2, the last thing you want to do is buy a current HTC device. Believe me, I've been there Their developer support is lame and their warranty policy is dreadful (and illegal in Europe, although I haven't seen that put to the test yet) the first thing they do when they receive a device is send you an invoice to repair or even return the device to you if it's bootloader unlocked, even if the fault has nothing to do with software. Plus, their idea of a bootloader unlock isn't really what most used to older HTC devices (S-Off) are used to...
I think the Nexus 4 is probably about the best option right now. It doesn't have an SD card slot. It doesn't have a removable battery (although the battery is pretty easy to replace when it wears out, it's just four screws and a bit of coercion.) Those two alone are going to be dealbreakers for some, and for the remaining people, the glass back might be an issue. I'm not going to lie, it's not ideal. I'd like the hardware of the Nexus 4 in the chassis of the HTC One X, myself (I don't like aluminium phones, they dent and look ugly in no time)
The only other things really worth considering are Sony devices - the Xperia Z looks pretty tasty, since they have a similar level of developer support and the company has made a really good effort to support the development community and AOSP in general. However, you have to be careful as operator branded Sony devices are locked down like Fort Knox (no bootloader unlock at all AFAIK.)
Samsung are going very much in the direction of HTC these days with regard to developer support (e.g. crap.) On top of that, I personally wouldn't buy a Samsung device because they keep releasing buggy hardware (S2, Note 1, S3, Note 2) with serious flaws that kill the devices, and their patches for these issues are a) dodgy code and b) don't appear to totally eliminate the SoD issue on the S3/Note 2. I'd be more forgiving if it weren't for the fact that the eMMC bugs traverse several generations of Samsung devices and now I suspect they just have crap quality control. I don't really like the idea of paying to beta test hardware for them :-/
Some good points in post above.
I was keen on S3 because of sd slot, removable battery & easy use of dual sim card adaptor but Samsung QC & pi55 poor service in my region made me change my mind on that.
Really is not that many really good spec phones available at the moment, most lack sd slots which works out expensive per Gb of storage & if phone dies so does the data.
Maybe worth some reinvesting in another HD2 or repairing the one they already have as current selection falls short for the prices they retail for ...
Umm buy another Le

We'll have to see what Samsung can bring in a couple of days but so far the One has smoked every other android flagship this year in reviews and benchmarks, and is also getting a ton of free interest and attention from the tech media. Great job in 2013 from this company

I'm a big time galaxy S fan, and I'm getting the S4 on release date but I must say I am jealous of that ONE. Samsung is never gonna make a phone as beautiful as the ONE.
As for SD and BATTERY, I find that I don't care as much as I thought I once did. With 32gb or 64gb is more than enough. Battery life is decent enough now (except power users like myself)
My wife in an average tech consumer and it's the first time she's excited for a phone release. In her case, the ONE fits all her needs well and above. Save goes for most of the average consumer. Put the 2 phones side by side and which one catches your eye the most. The average consumer knows little too nothing about specs.

AW: Well played HTC
I gotta say that I cannnot hear that things with removable battery an sd slot anymore.
First of all 32gb is enough.
For Removable battery I can say my friends 6 month old s3 battery doesn't work as it should. He loads his smartphone all the night and doesn't get a full charge.
At least for non removable battery u get automatically 2years on guarantee for batt. So please tell me now where is the disadvantage? There aren't also 95% or even 60% of people who carry a 2nd batt.
People who complain (not all but most of them) just see there isn't a sd and a non removable batt and say no I don't want that. But they don't even carry a 2nd batt or like my gf they don't even buy a sd on a 16gb s3....

I must admit, the One looks amazing. If the S4 is what was shown in the recent leaks, I'll most likely be leaning towards the HTC One.
I'm not surprised s4 is just a bigger version of s3 and slightly smaller then note 2 but just as ugly. Lol
Waiting for htc one delivery.
At first I was pissed about a non removable battery and no SD card on my one x but I've since then gotten used to it. Its not as bad of a deal as people make it out to be.32gb should be more than enough on your phone. You don't need to store 174673 HD movies on it...
I really want the one but I swore to myself I wouldn't buy another HTC until they change the way they treat devs and users who want to unlock their devices. I'll hold onto my one x till HTC changes or till a new phone catches my eye that's not all plastic like the s3 and s4 probably too. I would buy Sammy since we don't have to deal with this s-off crap but can't spend $500+ on a plastic phone.

that just shows us it doesnt matter how back we bicker on these xda forums about the lack of a device. Samsung has done there research and its proven correct. We are the 1 percentile on the xda forums who are pissed about a sd card and removable back lol. the general population doesnt really care. So samsung knows this and that why there being successfull now.
This isn't surprising. As much as I love XDA and (most of) the people here, some people around here tend to forget that XDA is nothing but a strong minority. Strong, vocal, informed... but ultimately still a minority.
Most people stopped caring about SDCards and removable batteries a long time ago. Dare I say, many never cared about removable batteries at all. Personally, I'll never trust cloud storage. My knowledge and background in technology won't let me. With that said, for most people, cloud storage is good enough.

The S6 will sell millions of units to the general population as you put it. The sales figure is going to be less than it would have been had the SD card and removable battery features of previous models been retained. Those are the facts.

Yeah but as a huge a company like Samsung they dont care about the losses they only care about the progression of sales from last year to this year. So yeah your right they will lose sales this year but in comparison from last year based off these sales it doesnt matter to them.
Do you guys think some people will blindly preorder and not even realize it doesn't have a removable memory card and battery until they go to pick it up?

Absolutely. Cloud storage is incredible from a convenience standpoint.
But its convenience just doesn't outweigh the risk for me personally. I reckon there will probably come a point where I literally have a dedicated offline, in-home server room just for storing all of my various files. But I'm just that kind of person.
Unfortunately, my stance does mean I'll be ponying up for the 128GB Edge. That's definitely going to sting a little haha.

First of all, I like android because it's not IOS. I don't like Apple. The whole Apple company annoys me.
I used to get annoyed when I heard Apple where suing Samsung for copying there patents, so on and so forth.
I couldn't help but notice straight away how much the S6 looked like IPhone 6, especially at the bottom of the phone (speaker grille).
Then I started looking at what Samsung have done, they took away what made them stand out.
They took away removable battery, and give us a very average size battery, but push wireless charges.
Worst of all they took away micro SD card!!!! Wtf
Then Samsung ask for a ridiculous price for different versions 32gb.....64gb.....128gb....... That's what apple does.
I used to be able to pick up 64gb micro SD card on sale for about $30. That option has gone.
The battery life on the S6 is poor. Let's be honest, everything I read tells me to turn off all sorts of features to make the battery last longer. It's a smart phone. I might as well buy a Motorola RAZR flip phone.
I'm just so disappointed Samsung have taken a huge step backwards and become who they used to fight. (IOS).
The fast Charging feature is cool, only if you want to carry your wall adapter and cable round with you all day, just incase!!!! The branded Samsung wireless charger should have come with the phone, not a $59.99 extra fee.
The only thing I will miss is the camera. It was excellent. But that's it.
Touchwiz was still sluggish, I experienced redraws more than I should have, and I still found it bloated with battery hogging apps.
I'm sick of Samsung. This is just my opinion remember.

You just perfectly outlined all the exact reasons I almost didn't get the S6 to begin with. Every year I can't wait to see the next Galaxy S, and this year Samsung made an iPhone running Android. Even though I hate Apple, my iPad is a huge part of my work and personal use, so I decided that the S6 had failed enough that it was time to just switch to iPhone 6+ and join the sheep.
BUT... I didn't. And the only reason I didn't was because it was time for me to upgrade now and I didn't want to get the iPhone 6 with the new one coming in Sept., leaving me with an old phone for two years. (I don't know where you are, but remember that in the US most of us are on 2 year phone plans.) So I just got the S6.
And I'm loving it. And I know I'd love the iPhone less. But I hate supporting Samsung making bad decisions.
Sorry but this is such a useless thread. Everyone of your reasons were very well know before launch. Yet you bought it anyway. Non of that was at all a suprise. Sorry your unsatisfied but you knew what you were buying.
We just need freaking root. God, I can't stand seeing all these useless apps running in my phone.
I hate at&t.
In my opinion they finally did something right for the first time in the last two years. People were always complaining about the build quality of Samsung phones. They finally build IMO a very nice phone, yes they did copy the looks of the iPhone a bit, but it looks great. One thing that did always bug me was the speaker being on the back of the phone. Now its on the bottom producing better sound when watching videos or listening to music.

None of the people I know that bought Galaxies had a problem with the build - it's always just been the iTurds that say how "bad" and "cheap" Samsungs are compared to their precious. I never had a problem or concern with the plastic body.
As for the new speaker placement, it's horrible. I'm constantly accidentally covering it just from natural hand placement when watching videos horizontally.

Right...because apple has 2k screens, ir blasters, a payment system with MST support, multiwindow, etc. Please, Samsung is way out in front and Apple is trying to play catchup. Wish a mod would come and rid of this useless thread.

Sorry but this is such a useless thread. Everyone of your reasons were very well know before launch. Yet you bought it anyway. Non of that was at all a suprise. Sorry your unsatisfied but you knew what you were buying.

Exactly what i was thinking. He knew the S6 didn't have a removable battery yet he bought it. He knew the S6 didn't have a micro sd slot yet he bought it. He knew the price of the S6 yet he bought then turns around and complain.

This, +1.
Gee... if only there were a way to ignore threads you don't want to read...
It must be so oppressive to have someone expressing their opinion.

Hardware wise yes it's way out in front but software wise Android as a whole still hasn't caught up to iOS whether you like it or not. Not everyone needs widgets and endless customization's on their phone, some of us simply want a phone that works out of the box without needing to root or having to wait months for an update to address the memory leak issues.

I started this thread because, I thought it might help people who are on the fence whether to buy it or not, I took the plunge and bought it then realized I made the mistake so I expressed my OPINION.
Also if this is such a useless thread don't read it....and better yet don't reply to it. (I'm the idiot)
Samsung has took a serious step away from its loyal customers by asking for more money for there devices and removing everything that made them special. You basically have an iPhone 6 running a bloated and ugly version of Android.
Once again my opinion, if you don't like it move on. Don't feel the need to be a keyboard tough guy and start calling names.
Childish.
I dont understand why they picked up S6 and then create a thread of their dislikes.
S6 features, pro and cons has been layed out prior opening sales and yet they still picked it up.

This is in hand experience, not prior sales.
Move along folks, nothing to see here.
The "REAL" upgrade to the Note 4 must be coming out later. I sure am glad I have taken good care of my DE Note 4. I will be holding on to it a lot more securely now that I know it is not being upgraged. There is no way I will ever be tied down to a battery charger again. Check my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62319570&postcount=15
We get it. You and a bunch of others are never going to get past Samsung's h/w decisions. Do we really need half a dozen threads harping about the exact same things?
Don't buy the Note 5!

I, We could be saving people from a horrible mistake. Have Fun!
Its just a mistake from samsung. They will learn. When the sales figure come and it flops!
If the Note 5 had been just a little bit better than the Note 4, I would have bought it.
Back in the day of the Motorola RAZR MAXX I had to keep two phones in order to have enough battery to last all day. I would move the SIM card from one phone to the other to activate them and it would sometime cause corruption.
I'm waiting for a Note 5 Active with 4100mAh battery and microSD
getting it and cant wait , people say it will hurt their sales but it has not slowed down apple

That would be better but at some point you have to put the phone down and stick it on a battery charger. Then you no longer have a mobil phone.
I'm waiting for the removable battery. Until then, bye bye Samsung.
I held the phone in my hand today at Bestbuy, along with the Note 4 right next to it. 3000 mah battery doesnt bother me, I charge my Nexus 6 twice a day because im a power user. It will be no different with the note 5 (220mah different i know). Quick charging allows me to charge my phone to 100% over my lunch break. As far as removable storage....i have a nexus 6 right now and only 32gb. Leef Access OTG adaptor with 128gb sdcard makes it a none issue. I never have used the IR blaster on any phone except to maybe try it out....my S tab has one. never used it.
I just loved reading all the hate yesterday after the announcement.......Im going to assume these same people will LOVE the new render of the boring looking 2015 LG Nexus.
btw, I think the Perl White is gorgeous. Im going to pair that with the UAG Magma red case.
is this Apple or Samsung !
No IR - No Micro SD - No Removable Battery - Just Stilling NFC & Bluetooth !!
My next phone may be a g4 or g4 pro

Remember back in 1985 when Coca-Cola changed the formula ? This change by Samsung is way worse than that bad decision. Samsung may never recover market share. R.I.P.

I suppose only time will tell. But for me who doesnt keep a phone for very long Im not bothered by making the decision to jump to this phone. Ill probably leave it behind anyway if the Huawei nexus is any good.

I use PayPal to swipe credit cards out in the field. If I have to put my phone on a charger I will lose money. I use to carry two phones just so I would always have a hot battery. Also what's up with Samsung removing the TV remote control feature.

Well at least Apple are capable of selling all their products on all continents. It seems Samsung think Europe would rather be palmed off with the Edge 6+ alone rather than letting the consumer decide what they want too buy. I wonder how many people will now buy another companies product because of that singular decision.

Yeah I'm probably spoiled because I have unlimited grandfathered data with Verizon and the rooted Developers Edition Note 4. I swap batteries 4 or 5 times a day.
Have Fun
