The Note 5 must be a prank - Galaxy Note5 General

The "REAL" upgrade to the Note 4 must be coming out later. I sure am glad I have taken good care of my DE Note 4. I will be holding on to it a lot more securely now that I know it is not being upgraged. There is no way I will ever be tied down to a battery charger again. Check my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62319570&postcount=15

We get it. You and a bunch of others are never going to get past Samsung's h/w decisions. Do we really need half a dozen threads harping about the exact same things?

Don't buy the Note 5!

I, We could be saving people from a horrible mistake. Have Fun!

Its just a mistake from samsung. They will learn. When the sales figure come and it flops!

If the Note 5 had been just a little bit better than the Note 4, I would have bought it.
Back in the day of the Motorola RAZR MAXX I had to keep two phones in order to have enough battery to last all day. I would move the SIM card from one phone to the other to activate them and it would sometime cause corruption.

I'm waiting for a Note 5 Active with 4100mAh battery and microSD

getting it and cant wait , people say it will hurt their sales but it has not slowed down apple

That would be better but at some point you have to put the phone down and stick it on a battery charger. Then you no longer have a mobil phone.

I'm waiting for the removable battery. Until then, bye bye Samsung.

I held the phone in my hand today at Bestbuy, along with the Note 4 right next to it. 3000 mah battery doesnt bother me, I charge my Nexus 6 twice a day because im a power user. It will be no different with the note 5 (220mah different i know). Quick charging allows me to charge my phone to 100% over my lunch break. As far as removable storage....i have a nexus 6 right now and only 32gb. Leef Access OTG adaptor with 128gb sdcard makes it a none issue. I never have used the IR blaster on any phone except to maybe try it out....my S tab has one. never used it.
I just loved reading all the hate yesterday after the announcement.......Im going to assume these same people will LOVE the new render of the boring looking 2015 LG Nexus.
btw, I think the Perl White is gorgeous. Im going to pair that with the UAG Magma red case.

is this Apple or Samsung !
No IR - No Micro SD - No Removable Battery - Just Stilling NFC & Bluetooth !!

My next phone may be a g4 or g4 pro

Remember back in 1985 when Coca-Cola changed the formula ? This change by Samsung is way worse than that bad decision. Samsung may never recover market share. R.I.P.

I use PayPal to swipe credit cards out in the field. If I have to put my phone on a charger I will lose money. I use to carry two phones just so I would always have a hot battery. Also what's up with Samsung removing the TV remote control feature.

Well at least Apple are capable of selling all their products on all continents. It seems Samsung think Europe would rather be palmed off with the Edge 6+ alone rather than letting the consumer decide what they want too buy. I wonder how many people will now buy another companies product because of that singular decision.

Just sold my S6. Here's why.....

I owned the phone for just over 2 weeks.
First of all, I like android because it's not IOS. I don't like Apple. The whole Apple company annoys me.
I used to get annoyed when I heard Apple where suing Samsung for copying there patents, so on and so forth.
I couldn't help but notice straight away how much the S6 looked like IPhone 6, especially at the bottom of the phone (speaker grille).
Then I started looking at what Samsung have done, they took away what made them stand out.
They took away removable battery, and give us a very average size battery, but push wireless charges.
Worst of all they took away micro SD card!!!! Wtf
Then Samsung ask for a ridiculous price for different versions 32gb.....64gb.....128gb....... That's what apple does.
I used to be able to pick up 64gb micro SD card on sale for about $30. That option has gone.
The battery life on the S6 is poor. Let's be honest, everything I read tells me to turn off all sorts of features to make the battery last longer. It's a smart phone. I might as well buy a Motorola RAZR flip phone.
I'm just so disappointed Samsung have taken a huge step backwards and become who they used to fight. (IOS).
The fast Charging feature is cool, only if you want to carry your wall adapter and cable round with you all day, just incase!!!! The branded Samsung wireless charger should have come with the phone, not a $59.99 extra fee.
The only thing I will miss is the camera. It was excellent. But that's it.
Touchwiz was still sluggish, I experienced redraws more than I should have, and I still found it bloated with battery hogging apps.
I'm sick of Samsung. This is just my opinion remember.

You just perfectly outlined all the exact reasons I almost didn't get the S6 to begin with. Every year I can't wait to see the next Galaxy S, and this year Samsung made an iPhone running Android. Even though I hate Apple, my iPad is a huge part of my work and personal use, so I decided that the S6 had failed enough that it was time to just switch to iPhone 6+ and join the sheep.
BUT... I didn't. And the only reason I didn't was because it was time for me to upgrade now and I didn't want to get the iPhone 6 with the new one coming in Sept., leaving me with an old phone for two years. (I don't know where you are, but remember that in the US most of us are on 2 year phone plans.) So I just got the S6.
And I'm loving it. And I know I'd love the iPhone less. But I hate supporting Samsung making bad decisions.
Sorry but this is such a useless thread. Everyone of your reasons were very well know before launch. Yet you bought it anyway. Non of that was at all a suprise. Sorry your unsatisfied but you knew what you were buying.
We just need freaking root. God, I can't stand seeing all these useless apps running in my phone.
I hate at&t.
In my opinion they finally did something right for the first time in the last two years. People were always complaining about the build quality of Samsung phones. They finally build IMO a very nice phone, yes they did copy the looks of the iPhone a bit, but it looks great. One thing that did always bug me was the speaker being on the back of the phone. Now its on the bottom producing better sound when watching videos or listening to music.

None of the people I know that bought Galaxies had a problem with the build - it's always just been the iTurds that say how "bad" and "cheap" Samsungs are compared to their precious. I never had a problem or concern with the plastic body.
As for the new speaker placement, it's horrible. I'm constantly accidentally covering it just from natural hand placement when watching videos horizontally.

Countless reviews on YouTube where saying how debloated it is, how it's the best touch wiz ever!! Maybe the obligated to say that??!
However it still felt like touch wiz to me, lag, redraws.....
In Canada 32gb model costs $750. The 64gb model costs $860!!! That's what annoys me, I can buy a 32gb micro SD card for a third of that 110$ jump.
Samsung have copied everything Apple has done, and it's pathetic.

My PERSONAL experience is this is the best phone I've used hands down. I had a droid turbo, spent a week with the m9 and have had plenty of time with my wife's iphone 6. The s6 wins hands down.. for my needs.
From your complaints maybe the g4 will be a better fit for you

Hardware wise yes it's way out in front but software wise Android as a whole still hasn't caught up to iOS whether you like it or not. Not everyone needs widgets and endless customization's on their phone, some of us simply want a phone that works out of the box without needing to root or having to wait months for an update to address the memory leak issues.

Samsung has took a serious step away from its loyal customers by asking for more money for there devices and removing everything that made them special. You basically have an iPhone 6 running a bloated and ugly version of Android.
Once again my opinion, if you don't like it move on. Don't feel the need to be a keyboard tough guy and start calling names.
Childish.
I dont understand why they picked up S6 and then create a thread of their dislikes.
S6 features, pro and cons has been layed out prior opening sales and yet they still picked it up.

I honestly cant see me going back to Apple. I might however consider an Apple tablet IF they ever release one with a stylus but if you wait a year or two other will follow suit on Android. At the minute Samsung Note 10.1 only ones worth buying. Anyway I digress.
I know a lot of people who bought S6'd because they were sick of Apple and wanted something overall better ... I think its a cycle tbh - people keep moving both ways but you still get the Majority who will stick with what they know be it Android Phones or Apple. I'll happily buy an iPhone if it hit all the points (But I know it never will HAHA).

No removable battery, No Water resistant, No Micro SD(and its available on Dous version !!), No Type-C port (forcing you to buy Note 6), No good video stabilization (forcing you to buy Note 6) , Not real 4GB of RAM and of course it will be draining by SAM APPS
battery should be at least better than Note 4 not Same or less !!
i am too disappointed
To be honest only reason I have kept it this long as I felt no phone has really been worth the change until now.

Upgrading from Verizon Note 3 to unknown

Well, the Note 5 is out and I'm really depressed about it. I can't see how this could be a good phone. I would stick with my Note 3 but it seems like root will never come and if I get a 2 year with a Note 4 by the time the first year is up the 4 will be just as ancient as the 3 so I need to get something new.
The difficulty in rooting the Note 3 wasn't because of Samsung it was because of Verizon right? If I switch carriers will it be easier to root the new phone I get? Or is it Samsung that makes rooting kind of a difficult process? It's really hard for me to give up on Samsung. Is their any silver linings in your opinion when it comes to the note 5? Do the pros outweigh the cons? Thanks for any advice.
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
I went and had my note 3 flashed and reset by a Samsung professional today. We discussed the issues, along with root and the note 5.
First, the rooting issue is because of Verizon locking the bootloader as a security protocol. Samsung applied the lock at the request of Verizon and Verizon released a developers version to compensate. That's the word of the Samsung rep.
Second, The Note 5 is a BEAST. It's a thinner Note 3 on extreme steroids. I have both and the new features on the N5 are insane. Check out the details or go to a store and see for yourself. 15 minutes of use, and you'll realize that root is pointless and slowly becoming the DOS of cellular technology.

So what, are they finally granting us the ability to disable the home button from being able to wake the phone? Because that is 90% of the reason I want to root my Note 3. Unless they're really opening up the restrictions and giving you truly complete control of the device, I can't see root becoming pointless any time soon...

Are you able to get past the fact that you can't remove the battery or use an SD card? Instead you have to pay godly amounts of money for a decent amount of storage? The battery is kind of a big problem too when it comes to flashing or doing any other customizations because usually when you f%#$ up you have to remove the battery to get back to Odin mode or recovery. What are you going to do if your in that situation? What if I stick the stupid s pen in backwards? Lol

I mentioned that to the samsung guy. His response: Who needs an SD card?? There's 32gb/64gb of space, plus a TON of free online storage available: Google drive, clouds, box, etc. If that doesn't help (pictures and music and what not), you can plug it into an external storage device and dump til your heart is saved. SD cards have 50/50 issues of work or fail, plus they are a hassle. They cause more problems than we know. It's pointless nowadays and thats why they removed it. I completely understood and agreed.
He said all of the newer phones from note 4 and up have safety features and a conditioning phase for the battery. There is no need for removal. If there's a need for removal, it's time for a replacement because there's something seriously wrong. Most companies have insurance plans that cover battery problems for full phone replacement, so that's not an issue unless you're using a cheap service provider. His question: Why would you put a 4 cylinder in a Ferrari? Why would you buy a 12 million dollar house and put only a 13" TV and a cot inside? He said, another thing that people don't get is, with every update, the battery has to 'condition' to the update. I noticed this with my note3. The latest update cut my battery life to 1 hour. It sucked! But... After he reflashed my note 3 (which can't be done correctly through kies), I had 1 hour. Later on, 2 hours, then 4, then 7... and now I'm back to almost 14 hours of battery life.
He also mentioned that you should ALWAYS remove Google services and reinstall it after any update. (which he did with mine). It fixed a lot of problems I was having on my note 3 after the OF1 update.
As for the s-pen... if you're putting it in backwards, odds are good, you shouldn't be using a Note. Remember that kindergarten toy? The square peg goes in the square hole, not the round hole. Lol. He said that was the biggest joke right now within the company.
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
Batteries wear out...typically 300 to 500 charge cycles. ...that's a year and a half. Hell if I'm going to send the phone in to get a new battery or pay insurance so I can get a refurb phone.
He/she is a freaking sales guy! And lies like one too! It costs Samsung $50 to add an SD card slot due to royalties...thar is the ONLY reason there isn't one. Samsung is now losing money....so they are cutting corners everywhere.
He's also full of crap about safety and conditioning of the battery. Ask him about battery.bin
Sent from my Note 3 via Tapatalk
So, can you use FoxFI on the N5? I like to freeze apps also and back them up, able to do that on the N5??? And storage does matter. When you don't have signal and are trying to watch or listen to something, how you gonna get to the cloud? Cloud is unreliable, SD card is on the unit. And having a N3, I can put the pen in this way or that. What kind of stupid comment is it 'square peg round hole'?? It's freaking square and can be put it backwards easily. Haha Samsung, you're a bunch of fricking idiots.....I'm going Moto X.....

Long time note 4 owner got the Note 5, Worthy Upgrade

Well, let me tell you the truth friends. I was one of those folks who disappointed the Galaxy Note 5 because of not having the ability to swap the battery and the sdcard. I wasn't even considering an upgrade nor recommending to anyone! But boy, I've now changed my idea, why? because I realized that the note 5 is the best of phone out there.
Two weeks ago, someone brought me a 64 gb brand new galaxy note 5 and he wanted to sell it, I asked him how much he said 600, I said well I'll give you 450 he said okay. I called sprint to make sure if the devices is clean and they said good to go.... I gave him the money and here you go I started using my new note 5.. I really don't know the reason he was selling but maybe he was moving to outside of US, who cares the reason he was selling? the device is not reported lost or stolen... Anyway
I was using the device about two weeks and man, this device is so awesome. No more Samsung lags, no more freezing or stuttering, it's ridiculously fast and smooth. And that it's self is really big jump from the note 4. But it's not only that, the note 5 has the best screen, best camera, better speakers, better fingerprint and the most amazing thing which is Samsung Pay......... I was using that samsung pay one week and I haven't seen one single problem. Yes, the down side is that I was spending a lot of money lately because of that Samsung pay, every girl says; well we don't use mobile payments and I say to her well; well just watch and wait I'll show you, Oh my God what's this phone. I don't take my wallet no more, just my driver L. and that's all! Apple pay and Android pay works with only some NFC payment machines which sometimes they don't even turn it on!
In my conclusion, yes I'll miss sdcard and the removable battery but I have 64 gb internal memory and the note 5 has better battery life than my Note 4 so I can live up without these feature because of the many other good features of the phone..
I don't know about the upcoming Xperia Z5 Premium, but no other phone can compute with Note 5 today...
That was hard to read, but interesting and uderstood. Thanks for sharing.
They took away far too much for the 5 to be an "upgrade". Also, we now have Note 5 ROM's so there is certainly no reason to shell out the $ for the 5. Glad you like the new phone, but anyone on the fence to get the 5 or 4 coming from the 3 or other older phones should get the 4 hands down.

This sounds more like an impulse buy, and a good price. I'm very content with my 4.
The write up was a bit hard to read, but got the gist. Thanks for your opinion.

I was exactly saying something before but again the fact is that Note 5 is way faster and better than note 4. I had my note 4 a year and I know it very much. The phone is slow and laggy compare to the Note 5 and that's its self is worth an upgrade. I've installed note 5 rom on my note 4 but that's still slow unfortunately.

To each their own I guess. If you want to see slow and laggy you should see my wife's crappy Kyocera Torque. I started with the HTC Evo 4g years ago and where we are today is night and day compared to then. It all boils down to one's happiness with whichever phone, at least we are all smart enough to not be on team crApple.

hahaha, I absolutely got your point. It looks like phone manufactures are moving away from expand-ability and even removable batteries. Look the new Google nexuses, the new v10 phone from LG, and so on, so let's see how it goes. as long as I got enough battery and storage I honestly don't care.
The v10 has removable battery plus expandable storage.

That it does! Looks pretty sweet too as far as customization.
Yeah I'm rush for an upgrade just yet but that V10! Lol. I am curious to see what Sammy does with S7 though.

Currently have the Note 4 (and 3 and 2 before that). Since they took away the microSD and battery on Note 5, i was going to skip upgrading this year. Ended up pre-ordering the Nexus 6P (128gb) though. Figure if I didnt have microSD and removeable battery, id rather go stock android route. Hopefully I wont miss the removable battery too much since I do use that often.

Exactly what I did and loving my new N4. I played with the 5 on several occasions and I just didn't fall in love or even like with it. I wish I had because I could have gotten a 5 easily - but I fell in love with the 4 and it just kept drawing me back to it. From the 5 that is.
Coming from a Note 3 that I've had since it was released - the 4 is a very worthwhile upgrade. Very classy and fast as lightning running Sacs N5 2.1
Couldn't be happier.

I love my Note4, my wife just got a Note5 and I really love it too. Samsung really upped their game with the Note5.

I'd love to have the Note 5 for the fast wireless charging and MST for Samsung Pay. I have tons of free space on my 32 GB Note 4 with a 64 GB microSD. 20 GB free on the phone and 55 GB free on the microSD. I put everything on the cloud or on NAS. So microSD isn't a big deal for me. I'd be fine with a 64 GB Note 5. It would be nice to have a removable battery, but I can live without it.
To the OP...Im not trying to be a d here....But you know the saying.
I have messed with BOTH side by side. Took about 1 hour on my lunch break with a lady a coworker who just got the note 5 and i asked her to please lets check the differences. She was pissed off. The sprint rep said they were all out of note 4 she wanted the sd ir and battery being bigger and removable option. So being she wanted to know the difference too we had a group of us. We had people coming in and out of the breakroom. Asking randomly which screen looked better. Few said mine. Few said hers but most said same phones. Lol. Pics? Most were unable to tell. Granted we were inside it was well lit.
I wanted the note 5 to be so much more. But samsung really lost ground this year. The benchmarks are the only thing that stands out. That is all. Now add what it doesnt have? Its pure and simple the better choice however subjective.
Not to say I wont ever own one. I just cannot let marketing run my opinion. I am happy that you are happy and anyone that bought the phone. I can upgrade too and snag one for 200. Then 10 a month. But i really can not think of why i would pay for again for a lesser featured phone that offers way way way too close if not identical screens and cameras which are my focal points. Thats my thoughts.

Exactly. With the Note 4 being what it is and owning it still waiting for that right move to jump to a next phone... not knowing 2015 would be the year of Sh!t Smartphone releases. Now knowing, I think im just gonna ride out my 2 year (Oct '16, phone is owned, not 'leasing') and by then ill have a definite, if not before that date, answer of whether seeing that Samsung can rectify their COMPLETE lack of misdriven philosophy of form over function(form should always Follow function in my book) allowing me to make the decision to ditch Samsung altogether or jump ship...

I don't know much about the LG world but just checked out the V10. Looks like everything Samsung should have done with the Note 5, but this will not be on Sprint? If so that really blows.

Next Nexus ?

I passed on the Nexus 6P, it was just not enough of an upgrade for me but this time my Nexus 6 will be 2 years old.
Think it maybe time to go for something new.
Unless the rumors are wrong it will be one of the first Android devices that offer a pressure sensitive display (be nice)
I hope this time they back down and allow for wireless charging and add SD card support (could only dream)
Guess we will know in September, hope it will be a nice upgrade.

Eh, depending on what happens I'd rather just forgo the gimmicks and get a customizable phone at less than $400. Not that money is an issue, but I don't use wireless charging, fingerprint scanner, etc...and I'm not keen on having a device that is in excess of $400 that can potentially get damaged very easily. I feel that iphone and samsung are already putting in the frills and charging over $800+ a phone which is completely uncustomizable.
If the newest Nexus winds up being that way, I'll just buy the 6p once the price gets haircut.

You can surely forget sdcard support on a Nexus I`am looking forward to the OnePlus 3 myself atm or the Alcatel Idol 4S but the next Nexus (7 2016 are something similar) is one i also keep in mind later this year.
$800 or $900 Canadian is what Samsung sells it's bloatware laden devices for.
So I am not the majority yes cheap devices exist but if I am willing to live with last years processor(I keep the Nexus 6 until it dies).
OnePlus 3, maybe great but after owning the OnePlus One I am not sure how much I trust these people.

I owned the OPO, and the OP2, the OPO was a great device, the issues that I had with the OP2, I just couldn't take, bluetooth mostly, but other little quirks as well.
I'm on the every other nexus schedule as well, and as much as I've loved my N6 I'm ready for newness. My sister got the 6p and I've been jealous of it, I was really hoping Huawei would make the next Nexus again because of how perfect that 6p is. As long as the HTC nexus doesn't completely suck I'll be getting that one as soon as google will let me, I'm excited for the new update system, so I'll be glad to be on this new generation of Nexus phones. I don't need a ton of gimmicks, I just hope it has a big battery, fingerprint, and improves upon the 6p camera.
I am read for a change, but it has to run on VZW.
I'm ready for the next Nexus as well. My N6 is actually the longest single consecutively used device. It'll be 2 years in November I believe. That is AMAZING for me.
If they took the current nexus 6, upgraded internals, took out wireless charging, kept everything else physically the same and sold it for $400 I'd be perfectly happy.
I really like the face of the nexus 6. Slim bezels and the subtle black speakers on top and bottom
Im in the same boat gents. While the 6p is a great device I didn't feel it worthy enough to upgrade from the N6. Rumors so far are an HTC nexus. While that does intrigue me I just hope it doesnt turn out to be weird in some way. Build quality, etc aka the nexus 9 of the nexus (nexi?) phones. If all else fails Im pretty sure I can snag the 6p off swappa for like $350 or less once the new device is announced. September cant get here soon enough!
wireless charging might be my favorite feature on the N6..I am sure that is staying in the next gen phone
and, with security being such a big issue for alot of people, you can bet fingerprint security isnt going anywhere either..
Also looking forward to the next Nexus. The 6p was a no go for me due to the look (I hate the weird bar which protects the camera), also the USB Typ 3 isn't of any advantage imho (they rather should have added real USB 3, which supports much faster file transfer).
hard to believe there have been no "real" leaks or info on the next Nexus phone at this point...
I am thinking about the 2016 Nexus too... I hope they add SD card support or make a REALLY affordable 64gb option... An equally specced 5 inch model would be dope too. I would actually get that over a 6 inch model as I already use a tablet.
The new Moto's seem nice though, and right now they have my attention.

You can give up on the sdcard. Google doesnt want them and even removed the code for sdcard support from the native code years ago.
I think the 6p is one of the ugliest phones out there so I'm looking forward to a 2016 HTC phone

I love the wireless charging and not having it was a deal breaker for me.
As for the fingerprint scanner, keep it. You can be compelled to touch the sensor, but not think to draw a pattern or punch in some numbers

Typ 3? I presume that you meant to type in TYPE 3, which I am going to guess corresponds somehow to TYPE C.
Type C is the **PLUG**, not the protocol. It has no bearing on the speed of the connection.
The Nexus 5x and 6p are USB 2.0 for protocol. Type C for PLUG.

I'm going to agree with this. While I don't mind if it has BOTH (the presence of a fingerprint scanner doesn't mean you have to show it your fingerprints), if its a choice of one or the other, the wireless charging is FAR more useful.
However as a hacker, there is one particularly beneficial use for a fingerprint scanner -- rig it up to a "delete everything" routine. If they compel you to use your finger to unlock it, doing so will erase the device.

This is genius! I would never have thought of that.
Finger print scanner = format device script.
Just don't hit it by accident.
It was all just an illusion
