Not until now, but if you have something reliable to flash for rooting I will try it.
There was the guide for rooting the Honor 7, but I don't know if it is only for the chinese version?

Actually I've seen only that one, dunno if it would work. I'm like that my order is "waiting for stock" so other can try for me. XD

This method worked for me, so thanks to OP.
As fastboot oem get-bootinfo shows the Bootloader as unlocked.
I flashed a Chinese TWRP from the guide I found elsewhere here. It definitely boots into TWRP and everything works inside TWRP, albeit in Chinese.
Unfortunately, I'm now in a TWRP bootloop and can't get out of it.
I don't have a stock ROM/recovery to re-flash, so I'm hosed until one appears online.

Is it useful to try it without an recovery image available? Some other user tried it and is in a bootloop now without the possibility to recover.
I also slashed beta-supersu, using the Chinese twrp. I didn't reboot in between flashing twrp and supersu. Maybe I should have.
Thanks!
Works perfect for me

I get stuck on the step 10: after I fill everything out, it says "Sorry, you must use a phone account to submit this application."
I had this too. I needed to log in at the first step with a Facebook account. Basically Huawei want a record of who they've given codes to.

Yes. Though mine seemed even more complex. I couldn't boot into the bootloader that way.
What I found is that via some combination of volume/power keys and having power plugged in or not, I finally:
* did a boot into safe-mode
* discovered I was rooted
* used to to install ROM manager
* rebooted, out of safe mode
* ran ROM manager
* rebooted to bootloader
And then did what dukey said.
strange i have tried to log using facebook button but it keeps sending me the '"Sorry, you must use a phone account to submit this application."'
any ideas?

The .exe linked in the first post is not required to determine the product ID. It can be determined using universal code *#*#1357946#*#* (which returns an 8-digit code as expected)
Further, the .exe linked in the first post does not get a clean bill of health at VirusTotal - nothing definitive but not clean. Anyone planning to use it to generate an unlock code should use reasonable caution, sandbox the application or (better) run it on a disposable VM.

So, pretty much a long time lurker and much lover of this site. I do quite a few roots on various devices for my job (computer forensics) and I've rooted a Galaxy S8 and its stuck on the Samsung boot logo and I desperately need to get it out without wiping the data on it!
The annoying part, is I did this a few days earlier to a test S8, all the same apart from the build number and it was bloody flawless. I got root access. Did it to another device and it crapped out.
I used cfar_samsung_sm-g950f_dreamltexx_nrd90m.g950fxxu1aqi7_adt0.zip direct from firmware.mobi (for both devices - first was obviosuly a different build number).
I'm in a bit of a panic mode at the moment. I tried this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/how-to-fix-twrp-bootloop-t3513580
After attempting root on my replacement phone, I could NOT boot to system. Each time I rebooted to "System", it would boot straight to TWRP over and over. I tried reflashing stock files. No verity patching.. etc.
The Fix:
Download the latest version of TWRP specific to your device here https://build.nethunter.com/test-builds/twrp/lge/
Flash the file and the device should now be able to boot to system. If that doesn't work try another version.
I spoke to @jcadduono about my problems and he believes there may have been something weird going on in the misc partition. Reflashing TWRP will/should fix the problem.
Thanks @jcadduono for all the support.

But it did not work. I can get into TWRP Recovery with it (and into Download mode) but TWRP wont kick it out of the boot loader issue. I've tried installing super user and all sorts, but I can't mount Data to actually achieve anything?
Please, any help is much appreciated. If there is anything obvious I'm missing please tell me.
Thanks,
DG.
First of all, I would like to ask for mod/s to have this move to proper thread section.
What is the exact model of your S8?
What is your TWRP version you installed?
@DanGlee
Can you show us the picture of twrp error you get?
You mentioned this
"but I can't mount Data to actually achieve anything?"
Can you send us the exact error of twrp and post it in here? It could be that data partition is corrupted, and if it is, then there's no way we could get your data back.
But if you can get /data partition mounted, then you could make a backup in twrp and reflash everything to stock.
Apologies for not posting this in the correct place. It's a minefield of threads.
I don't have the phone infront of me at the no, bit will do it first thing in the morning.
Thanks.

Yes , forgot about that.
If data mounted is inaccessible, your only option is to format data partition, which sadly, erase all your data from your phone.
Sorry @DanGlee you won't be able to retrieve your data anymore.

Unlucky i don't think you can recover your file. I took a look and didn't find anything. Please pay attention at what you do when rooting or doing anything to your phone. First you need to see all the steps to avoid problems like this!
If can help i used this very simple guide to root my phone [YOUTUBE]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_lsVsbujYg

Followed these instructions to unlock the bootloader and flash the latest DU to my wife's XT1575: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3200808
DU was buggy so I decided to flash stock nougat using these instructions (left bootloader unlocked): https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/xt1575-moto-x-pure-edition-factory-t3704142
Everything seemed to go fine until we attempted to sign into her existing account and got this error: Unable to sign in to device due to an unknown error. Please try another account or try to sign in again after 24 hours.
Had no idea what that was about, so I Googled it and found out about Factory Reset Protection (FRP). I didn't find much information and the only advice I found was to wait at least 24 hours before trying again. Turned off the phone and waited a full 26 hours before turning it on again--attempted to sign in again and still getting the same error.
Any advice for what to do next?

No. I saw the big red "REMOVE" button, clicked it, and got the confirmation just like the article said, but as you can see from my screenshot, it does not say "Access Removed." next to the device. There is also no more "REMOVE" button. But the interface seems slightly different from the time that article was written so perhaps that's why.

Yes, tried but it won't allow it. It says that a factory reset was done on it and that I need to log in from the account that was on it. But, when I try doing that, of course I get the same error as before: Unable to sign in to device due to an unknown error. Please try another account or try to sign in again after 24 hours.

Not sure what causing it, but try Factory resetting the current Stock ROM or try any other custom ROM with Nano GApps.
P.S: If you currently are on Stock Nougat then flash any Custom ROM based on stock nougat.
I thought FRP didn't work with an unlocked bootloader?

The phone originally had Marshmallow. The issue with custom ROMs is reliability. Even with DU, which is known for being one of the more stable ROMs, there were a lot of glitches. For example, sometimes the camera app would open, sometimes it wouldn't, which isn't good when you've got a toddler and want to capture moments.
Maybe I'm misinterpreting what you're saying... Are you suggesting that maybe I can somehow circumvent FRP by going from a custom ROM and back to a stock ROM?

Thanks. Unfortunately, I don't know how to do this. I did some Googling and found instructions that won't work for me since I can't get into the phone. Also, looking at the firmware files, I don't see any the files in question.
I called Google and they blamed Motorola and patched me through to their support line. Motorola had no clue what to do. They blamed the legally required "kill switch" but said that it should let me in if I know the right account and password, which I do, but it still doesn't work.
Hey. I've bricked my Huawei P10 lite, literally just for the sole reason alone that I'm an idiot. I was in the process of relocking/unrooting when I did a massive choke - I've relocked the bootloader and IMMEDIATELY closed the goddamn tab. I haven't written the code down anywhere. When I've rebooted my phone, I discovered I have exactly 0 ways of doing a wipe, since the TWRP was obviously gone.
Hitools returns that the phone cannot be recovered due to not being supported.
Recovery? There isn't one. eRecovery always returns "failed to get.." yatta yatta yatta, It's not working.
The only thing currently reacting to my commands is fastboot. And, being the mr. obvious, I cannot push files onto the phone through fastboot to restore it by the full package, which was pretty much my only option at this point.
There aren't any replacement motherboards available for the P10 lite on eBay or pretty much anywhere else I could think of.
If there exists any good soul that can tell me if this is in any imaginable way reversible without getting a cracked screen phone and swapping the motherboards, PLEASE, PLEASE, do tell me.

Prerequisites:
Updated to Nougat
Unlocked bootloader
TWRP installed
Basic understanding on how to use TWRP
If you don't know how to unlock your bootloader and install TWRP see post #2
I am using my device the [FRD-L04] as an example in this guide.
Step 1 Get Firmware
Create a folder on you computer and name it "oreo-update".
Go to the Firmware Finder website and find the Oreo update for your device.
Left click on the "filelist" and it will display three download links. One for "update.zip", One for "update_data_full_public.zip" and One for update_full_FRD-L04_hw_usa.zip.
Copy and paste each download link for your device into your browser's address bar and download them to your "oreo-update" folder.
You may see more than three files. The last one will have your model number in it.
Now go to your "oreo-update" folder.
Rename "update_data_full_public.zip" to "update_data_public.zip"
Rename "update_full_FRD-L04_hw_usa.zip" to "update_all_hw.zip"
Step 2 Get HuRUpdater
HuRUpdater is a great program that flashes unapproved and approved updates in TWRP.
Go to the HuRUpdater post and download the latest version to your "oreo-update" folder. Be sure to hit the thanks button while your there.
Step 3 Install Oreo
Copy "oreo-update" folder to your SD Card.
Boot to TWRP
I recommend doing a full backup and a wipe before flashing.
Choose install from the TWRP menu and select your SD Card
Navigate to your "oreo-update" folder and flash "HuRUpdater" it will prompt you to hit the volume down button to start the process.
HuRUpdater will flash the update for you. I ended up with three errors which didn't seem to matter.
Reboot and enjoy
Optional Flash TWRP
It may be possible this process relocked your bootloader. So you may need to unlock your bootloader again.
Download the latest version of TWRP from this post. This TWRP wasn't designed for our device but is the closest to a fully working TWRP I could find. DO NOT post any problems or bugs in that post!
TWRP 3.2.1-0
The fastboot commands have changed. The new command is "fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk RECOVERY.img"
If you like this guide please consider hitting the thanks button.

The only things I have found is it can't decrypt the Data partition and it tries to mount a partition that isn't on the Honor 8. It will wipe the Data partition though. I'm sure it is only a matter of time until someone builds one for our device.

I can't say for sure, but I would think so as long as you have the stock recovery installed. I know that when I flashed back to Nougat this way I was able to get OTA's.

I know it is old news, but I don't think the age of the article matters as much as the fact is that Huawei will no longer be giving out unlock codes. Just about every article you read is from that time period because that is when Huawei made the announcement. I admit I might have missed the bus on this one.

Today someone posted a new link for a new form, that's funny you post the plder news today too
I don't know if the new form is that new or if it works though

I seem to be having trouble making it past the registration. I get "system is busy". If I remember correctly you have to register first. Then you can request your unlock code. You might want to try the alternative methods listed.

I don't know either where I should look for the unlock code. I get to this page after I log into my Huawei ID.

Already tried before posting. OEM unlock and USB debugging is not activated, so the phone's not taking a custom recovery. Downloaded 10+ different firmwares from sammobile, still AP is returning with invalid MD5 error in ODIN. Some even can't unzip. Same results on 2 computers. Don't know what am doing wrong.

OK bro. just try this last steps.
Found some bootloader and modem thanks to this person djb77. here is the link for his rom,
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/rom-galaxy-project-t3792787
just click on link below and download modem and BL.
Here is his modem link
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=271403
and here is bootloader link
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=271397
CLick on your device version in the link and select the modem and BL of May 16, 2019 and download them as they are latest.
Now i hope you already know that you must have installed samsung driver and you must be using Odin3_v3.13.1
Now boot in download and connect it to pc. if desktop use the backports of usb. Now in odin(try run it as admin sometime) click on BL and select the Bootloader which you have downloaded. And then click CP and select the modem you have downloaded. and click start. Sometime antivirus mess things up too. Try turning it off too.
this is last from me brother. if it works which i pray it should then i would be glad. if it doesn't work. then i am sorry bro.

NISAR Ahmed NISAR is helping me get if fixed. Some progress as it took some rom on Odin, not booting to recovery now, but stuck on boot screen. Hopefully tonight.
Just my two cents-- but I'll bet you might be using the wrong version of Odin. I was in a similar bootloop after I tried flashing it with an Odin I found in some S7 Edge threads and it kept failing with all different types of firmwares. Odin3_v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD is the version that worked for me.
That is true, use correct odin version plus correct rom plus correct method, always know what you are doing or there is a chance you will even make conditions worse..
Also, be specific in your op, tell what you were doing when that started happening, which rom were you using before and your exact model and firmware, so others can help you easily and readers may get a benefit if there is a solution.
Pls, this is not general help forum, post all help related queries on related forum.
