Out of curiosity I opened up KIES 3 on my PC and connected the S6 Edge+ via USB. I get an "unsupported device" dialog box come up. It says "The connected device is supported through SmartSwitch, which is faster and more convenient." hmm.. OK, great, thanks. But no mention on what this is or where to find it. So on the Samsung support pages for this model, there is no help. On the KIES support pages there is also no help. So a quick "SmartSwitch" Google search directs me to a Play Store app, which I installed. But this app is only for transferring data and apps from another phone or platform.
I understand how to transfer data and media using Windows Explorer but I am wondering, how will I see if my device is up to date and what happened to being able to update over USB instead of OTA?

Scroll down and they'll have all the available downloads (mobile app, mac/pc, and then a link for kies). It's much easier to use than Kies, at least on my macbook.

Thanks for that mate. This was missing on the Samsung UK website!

Kies is a great software. However, for a certain number of new galaxy phones, the app can't detect the device for some reasons. So if you have such a problem, then you can use Android Assistant instead, which is a great Samsung Kies alternative.

hello all.
i just bought my x10 yesterday and I am (or rather was) eager to install apps on it however the "Market" app isnt on my phone nor is there any sort of file manager.
How can i install anything now?
also the driver for the "X10i" that windows 7 keeps asking for is nowhere to be found...
pls help!
I can't help with the Market Application, but I can help with the drivers/PC Companion software.
With your SD Card installed in the device:
1) Connect Device to PC via USB
2) Once the Device has connected you will see a USB symbol in the top status bar (USB Connected message) on the Home Screen.
3) Drag down the Status Bar and you will see USB Connected under the 'Ongoing'. Tap this.
4) Select 'Mount' from the pop up
The SD Card will now be mounted to your PC and will appear under My Computer. It should be labelled "Sony Ericsson PC Software"
5) Open "Sony Ericsson PC Software" and Select "Install"
Your Drivers and PC Companion software will now install.
NOTE: Make sure you follow this disconnect procedure - I've seen ... weirdness when I haven't followed it and your SD Card may not be visible to the Phone again unless you do!
1) Safely Eject the device from Windows (USB symbol on Taskbar in Win 7 > Eject)
2) Drag down the Status Bar and tap USB Connection
3) Select UnMount
Note: Steps 2 & 3 are not always required...
Thanks.
I wasnt aware there was any stuff on the memory stick that came with the x10. I'll install the software.
However its really lame of SE to not have the market app.
whats odd is under application manager i did find "Market updater" so i know something is there. there has to be a way to install it so i can install s/w.
Hi Cylent,
I had the Market Application on the Apps menu - front and centre.
Forgive me if I'm telling you something you already know but the Home page (the one with the clock and the Timescape/media scape buttons) is only a customisable front end to the Android system.
you can add and remove widgets to the Home screen (Press and hold), there are three screens you can move to and fill with widgets (Swipe left or right to move).
At the bottom of the screen is a stripey bar. Swipe that bar upwards to reveal the Apps menu. This is scrollable and I found the Android Market icon (labelled Market and looks like a shopping bag) just off the initial view.
I find it very strange you don't have access to the Market using the Market app. Just for that, I'd take the phone back and demand another one.
Take care
S.
It seems like in Saudi and UAE the market application is illegal due to "protection of feelings" since there might be offending material in the App Store
So that is why here cant get the X10 with Market application...
:-(
Yeah, just found that out myself.
It kinda sucks for guys in that area - half the power of the phone is in its apps...
yes and what is even worse is I checked SE UAE BEFORE i bought the phone - and the website said android market was installed.
But here they do not care - so I was just told to shut it - and they would not give me a refund. SE made a mistake and is not "man" enough to admit it and refund a customer.
Now of course the have changed the UAE website... But I still have my screen dumps for my journalist friends. So off to fry SE UAE publicly..
well heres another ****ed up part.
the box says "AR,EN" on it and it even has a little start guide in arabic but the phone has no arabic on it what-so-ever. messages appear in BOXES when in arabic ...
it has a japanese keyboard which is odd.
i literally cannot do anything without the market app because there is no damn file manager installed.
even windows phones have a file manager. what the hell?
I don't know if it will help you but why not try the "debranding tutorial". With the tutorial you will be flashing an UK Rom via SEUS, in my opinion the market should be there after that.
-Bin4ry
ya the debranding idea came to mind because when i tried the SEUS it said my phone was up to date. but all i want to do is flash the UK or whatever version ontop of what i have. cant i copy the rom image to a flash and reset the device to flash?
reason being is this tutorial got me too confused. i downloaded the file and it had a 1 and a 2 subfiles in the zip. where to extract them and what to do? http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=195467
i did it on my htc magic...is it not possible with the x10?
SUCCESS!!!
the debranding got my market icon installed!!!
now ... how to get 2.1 android on lol
if you cant get SEUS to work this is what worked for me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6209473#post6209473
curious is it a necessary app or program - it seems the galaxy will mount to a computer without
just curious what purpose it serves and if it's indispensible while i wait for the 15th to roll around
tks in advance
Get drivers from google and you don't need kies.
I would also like to know what the big deal with Kies is. What google drivers?
I'm unable to purchase any apps from the Android Market. The webpage reports that apps cannot be installed on my device (Galaxy S /w Bionix).
I've attached a screenshot of the dead end I'm reaching.
When the phone is connected to my computer I've tried de-selecting USB debugging and selecting to mount USB for copying files. None of the configurations I can find results in my device seen by the computer. It's always grayed out.
Any help would be appreciated.
Many Thanks,
*update
Installing free apps does not present the same problem, as seen in the attached screenshot.
I haven't used the Android market web page to actually buy an app. Does it depend on Google checkout for an instant payment? If so, is your credit card information up-to-date?
--Brandon Young
I'm not able to get far enough to input credit card info. I'm only able to pick an app, and click buy. Then I get the screen I posted and cannot proceed.
*update
It has nothing to do with the phone/pc connection. I'm getting the same results with the phone disconnected from the PC. I can install free apps as seen in the screenshot before. But I cannot buy apps for which I have already installed the trial version, as seen in the other screenshot.
*update
I also get the same results for any non-free apps for which I have not already installed the trial version. I get the grayed out device and continue as seen in the screenshot.
So, the problem has nothing to do with incompatibility issues with trial versions and paid versions of the same app.
Dude -- aren't you the one that couldn't get on Team Whiskey's website ? check you connection and speed connect. Then try on WIFI, I think you got things messed up, go through the settings one by one and check. Also do a speed test.
Local wifi isn't the problem. I've tried four machines, two in Asia, two in North America. And the browser isn't the problem either. One of the machines in North America with a fast connection has Chrome, and I still get the same problem.
Chrome did however allow me to register for the forums on Team Whiskey. I'll post there to see if they know anything about this problem.
I really like so many things about this Tab but it seems I keep runing into road blocks.
All I want to do is to copy my music from iTunes to the Tab and get the pictures and videos I have taken on the Tab to my Windows notebook since the Mac is not supported. Here was my last bit of the chat from Samsung Support.
Jeff: ok, and to be sure I understand Kies does NOT support the Tab 10.1 at this time?
Gary C: Yes, as of now the Kies software is not supported for Galazy 10.1 (Wi-Fi only) tab.
Anyone got any ideas?
DoubleTwist will take care of your needs.

If you want to transfer wirelessly with DoubleTwist, you will have to get the AirSync companion. It's in the market.
Yeah...I scoured the interwebs for Kies for mac. When I finally found it, I got the 'device not supported'.
I've been doing all my file transfers via ES File Explorer.
Samsung released Allshare a DLNA App for Mango WP7 Phones.
I couldn't find it in the Samsung Zone...
But it poped up in the Search when i clicked "more from SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS Co., Ltd." on the Details View from other Samsung Apps.

Oops
"This device doesn't support AllShare." error pops up
(7720 updated, but not XXKH2 ROM)
Maybe it needs the XXKH2 for its drivers?
same here,
I8700XXKH2
2424.11.8.2
3.15.0.4
3.7.11140.0
5.8.0.8
allshare
I have the kh2 rom on my omnia 7, but allshare dosen't Work .
Sorry for bad english.
Just got the Samsung update for my 7720.68. But this doesn't work. The same goes for "advanced text messages".
I can unfortunately confirm neither work for me either (I went from 7720 RTM to official Mango about a 1/2 hour ago).
Not on Focus, either

Its ment to ship on the Omnia W and Focus S.
So maybe its only for Mango based phones
I just checked it. It specifically excludes devicenames "OMNIA7" and "SGH-i917" (= Focus). I patched it. The checks are removed. I was able to start the app, browse a DLNA server, but as soon as I select media it opens a screen with "Select device", "Loading...", "no device found". There seems no way to play any media. I haven't tried to send media from my phone to a DLNA player (I'm at work, I'll try that when I get home).
By the way, I'm on Omnia7 with Mango RTM and latest Samsung Driver/Radio Update.
I'll attach the xap, so you can try it yourself.
Ciao,
Heathcliff74
Well, this app is really, really not working on my Omnia7. The 'unlocked' app simply won't play and won't share anything. I don't understand why, because DLNA should just work on such a device. No special hardware requirements. Meehhh.
Heathcliff74
Does it need a driver that wasn't included in the new package from Samsung?
Yeah, that's what came to my mind too, some external driver required.
We need dump (or the ROM itself) of Omnia W or Focus S . Anyone?
I got samsung allshare in my galaxy s, it needs allshare installed in the server pc or any other samsung device that supports allshare.
cant test the above patched app because my omnia is not "rooted"
just my 2 cents.
Anyone tried this:
wmpoweruser.com/how-to-enable-samsung-allshare-dlna-app-on-the-samsung-omnia-7?
(sorry apparently can't post outside links :S)
Given Heathcliff74's experience after removing the check for model i wouldn't have expected this to work.
I can confirm it does load and get past the initial error message but I'm at work so i didn't get a chance to test streaming to an allshare device.

You can download AllShare to your PC and then stream media to your phone.
http://www.samsung.com/global/allshare/pcsw/
I've tried but problem is, my phone does not see my laptop running Samung AllShare, I tried to disable firewall but no go.
Same here, tested with 2 allshare Samsung devices.
Also the the omnia media files are not enumerated.

Or you can download the patched version I attached in an earlier post. But either way, it doesn't work...
I can see my pc folders but cant open its content (simple pics in my case).
I can see file names of pics but then no pic is shown
I noticed that pc doesn't recognise my phone as connected.
Ok. The app seems to do a little more than I thought it could do.
This is what the app CAN'T do:
- It can't play media from other devices on the phone (app simply does not do that).
- It is not possible to play media from the phone to another device. The app supports it, but the drivers don't. The app now tries to open a file-list through the drivers. Samsung could easily update the drivers or the app to get access to the media files on the phone.
- It is not possible to play media to a DLNA DMP (Digital Media Player). A DMP has browsing capabilities, but do not support "Play To".
This is what the app CAN do:
- Select media from a DLNA DMS (Digital Media Server)
- Play it to a DLNA DMR (Digital Media Renderer). My TV (Sony Bravia KDL-40W5500) officially supports only DMP. It has some DMR capabilities (I can configure it in the menu). Allshare sees my TV, but the combination does not seem to work.
Maybe I'll try to patch it later on to give it access to the media on the phone. But this is not high priority for me now, so if I do it, it won't be anytime soon.
Ciao,
Heathcliff74
