I'm unable to purchase any apps from the Android Market. The webpage reports that apps cannot be installed on my device (Galaxy S /w Bionix).
I've attached a screenshot of the dead end I'm reaching.
When the phone is connected to my computer I've tried de-selecting USB debugging and selecting to mount USB for copying files. None of the configurations I can find results in my device seen by the computer. It's always grayed out.
Any help would be appreciated.
Many Thanks,
*update
Installing free apps does not present the same problem, as seen in the attached screenshot.
I haven't used the Android market web page to actually buy an app. Does it depend on Google checkout for an instant payment? If so, is your credit card information up-to-date?
--Brandon Young
I'm not able to get far enough to input credit card info. I'm only able to pick an app, and click buy. Then I get the screen I posted and cannot proceed.
*update
It has nothing to do with the phone/pc connection. I'm getting the same results with the phone disconnected from the PC. I can install free apps as seen in the screenshot before. But I cannot buy apps for which I have already installed the trial version, as seen in the other screenshot.
*update
I also get the same results for any non-free apps for which I have not already installed the trial version. I get the grayed out device and continue as seen in the screenshot.
So, the problem has nothing to do with incompatibility issues with trial versions and paid versions of the same app.
Dude -- aren't you the one that couldn't get on Team Whiskey's website ? check you connection and speed connect. Then try on WIFI, I think you got things messed up, go through the settings one by one and check. Also do a speed test.
Local wifi isn't the problem. I've tried four machines, two in Asia, two in North America. And the browser isn't the problem either. One of the machines in North America with a fast connection has Chrome, and I still get the same problem.
Chrome did however allow me to register for the forums on Team Whiskey. I'll post there to see if they know anything about this problem.

good find, now if only htc would be so kind as to give a changelog
Could anybody who has downloaded this tell us what the major differences are please. Don't want to be bothered to download it if it tries to fix a problem i haven't got - if it aint broke etc.

Well I've downloaded and installed the update - I'm one of those "strange" fellows who assumes that an update should just be applied as it will "update" things.
What have I found:
No real differences to anything at all. I did have a bug whereby the browser would start turning itself off randomly (both WiFi and 3G and with 1 or more tabs open & many different sites so no idea what caused it - happened both straight after a reboot and also when been left on for a few days) This no longer seems to be happening.
My main bugbear with it now is that I've found that I can't see all the programs that I used to have on the Store. I can see Twidroid free but not Twidroid Pro (which seeing as I've paid for it I'd rather like to download again!) I also can't see Space Physics - again I can see the lite version but I've paid for the full game and that's not showing anywhere.
I can see other programs that I've previously purchased & able to download (CoPilot, Retro Defence) but it's irritating in the least to not get the full versions of other programs I've paid for already.

I wouldn't worry about that. It sometimes happens when a carrier releases an update. They need to 'validate' it with the big G before it gets access to protected/paid apps...

Thanks for the reply, frankly I haven't come across the bug on my browser, which goes to say, I won't need this update.

I have just installed this and there are no real differences except they have added a 4x4 (i.e. the whole screen) People widget, and increased the size of the thumbnails on the People widget.

Hi,
I am new here and I am Hichjacking this thread, as my problem is in regards to the ROM Update on Orange.
As someone posted in this thread earlier, I do have the same issue that some of my paid apps are no longer available for me. ie Silent time, my backup pro.
I was able to get my MyBackup Pro online, however Silent time pro is not available. Is this also probably because its not approved for the new ROM update yet, although its not nearly 2 weeks old.
I can live without the other ones, but I loved Silent time Pro.
Can anyone help me and shed some light?

HI all, this past weekend Kies popped up with a notification that there was a firmware upgrade for my Galaxy S. I immediately downloaded and installed it, I guess a newbie mistake. When completed I found that all my apps vanished and my settings went back to out of the box state. Though annoying I spent much of Saturday morning trying to get my phone back to where I had it before the update. The issue now though is that when I log into the market I find I am unable to download certain apps, I get to the install button on the phone then I get an error message "file not found". This is troublesome as there are a few apps that I had before the upgrade that I can no longer install, including paid apps, (examples Pandora, Pure Calendar) nor am I able to install certain new apps. I read that the market will no longer display protected content after this upgrade. I spoke to Samsung who told me to take the phone back to the Bell store. Bell told me to call Samsung as it is a firmware issue
Has anyone else experienced this, and does anyone know of a solution to the problem.
Thank you

Some people suffered market problems after upgrading to the UK-released JM1 last week. Apparently Samsung has to notify Google that they released an official update, so that Google allows access to paid and copy protected apps for that firmware. It took a couple of days for everyone to see everything over here. Maybe you just have to wait a bit (?)
Same happened here in Australia.. It was fixed the next day. I called Samsung to complain about it (when it was still happening) and was told that there was nothing they could do (which seemed like rubbish to me)..
If you are updating to a unsupported (beta) fw, make sure you install a rom or replace your build.prop file with a supported fw file.
Hi my phone is a month old now, everything is stock..no mods so far..I am having multiple problems with my phone.
- I cannot download anything from Market..it starts download and then 'download unsuccessful'
- FM radio never worked for me, not even after manually tuning it.
- I am not able to use wifi..it just says 'obtaining address...'
I did a factory reset yesterday and after that I was able to download 2~3 apps from Market..but today I am facing the same issue again.
Please help me guys..
Thanks guys for the help, it turns out that the issue was exactly what you said, but maybe more to the point, my own impatience.
Thanks again

I am on the Captivate running the beta I897UCJH2 firmware. I have market issue with some apps (e.g., Asphalt 5 HD, Fandango, and G4Tv) not showing up. I tried your method of copying over the build.prop file from the official I897UCJF6 firmware release. Even rebooted after doing that. The missing apps never showed up, so I reverted back to the JH2 build.prop file. Any other suggestions to fix my issue?
P.S. - Spoke too soon. This does work. Someone suggested clearing Market cache, followed by reboot, and then installing and reinstalling a couple of apps. And that did the trick.
from what i can gather it seems to be related to a location issue, as in certain apps will not show up for some countries and other apps will, etc.
so if you load firmwares from different geographic location the market is filtering what it allows/not allows bassed on the rom firmware location.
it'll be great if we can remove that filter and have it show everything online.
the work around that i do is find and download the apps via browser, instead of market
also avoid the barcode scanner downloads, which just launches the market app

Are you saying there a site where I can get the all the apks for these missing apps downloaded by bypassing the market? I have never run across it so far. Every one of the solutions so far has the phone launching the market app at some point, which fails, as the apps are not listed or downloadable there. The apps I am talking about are all free and should be legally able to be sideloaded, but how?
Hello.
I've installed android SDK on my acer aspire ax1300 computer twice now & the android SDK works fine but has left my computer running horrible. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or perhaps has a solution?
Specifically the problem i get is that when i try to open a web page at random times throughout the day i will get "windows can not display the web page" it offers a point to select diagnose problem so i do & it comes back "there does not seem to be anything wrong" It then refreshes the web page to where i was going and everything works fine. It does this maybe 10x in a day. Also i noticed that trying to view web pages takes a lot more time..i mean A LOT more & the time it takes to shut down has increased as well. I know android sdk is a huge file but i still have a ton of memory left so I know its not a memory issue or a installed issue since its working fine. My thought was maybe it was a paths directory issue but i cant find any info to support this or even why i thought this...jus do i guess,. lol.
solutions i've tried1st) i uninstalled android sdk to see if it would do it with it uninstalled which it does not...only when android sdk is installed do i have these problems
2nd) i double checked to make sure my computer meets the requirements set forth by google which it does
3rd) i tried to look through countless forums including videos from theunlockr.com & have not came across anyone with this problem or similiar for that matter
4th) i defragmented my hard drive
5th) i disabled indexing
6th) cleared computer of unwanted files & disabled unnecessary files from within the start up menu
7th) i finally caved and came to the experts here on xda for help...please help me fix this issue or i will have to ban my hopes of having android sdk & a working computer
8th) i disabled Aero
9th) i ran avg pc tuneup including cleanup/defrag/tweaks/optimize/registry repair & registry defragment all of which did not seem to help the issue
10th) installed firefox to see if i would have the same issue...will report back after some time using to see if it helped
Thanks in advance to any help any member gives or any nudge in the right direction ?:^D
also if i kill the process to adb.exe & java.exe i notice a huge system improvement..soo... . i then tried to visit sites that had been giving me problems & i did not seem to have those same issues. web sites seem to load much faster also signing out of yahoo is much quicker. (it would take a very long time to sign out of yahoo before..normally i would have to click sign out many times)
anyone with info/help & also wouldn't mind passing it along i would be very appreciative.
so i figured out what was causing my problem..not to sure how to fx it but i wanted to list it just incase someone else runs into the same issue i have had.
i have a cisco router which worked fine when i dont have android sdk installed but when i do i cant use the router. well i can but it gives me the problems listed above. when i unplug the router my computer runs & works just fine so i know its the router that has been giving me problems. i guess i'll look for a new router and hopefully i wont have that problem anymore.
Hi folks,
Dont know what is happening here, but for whatever reason I cannot install any apps from AppBrain or Market.
This problem also exists or is consistent with no matter which ROM that I use, meaning if I use JoeStones, CM7, whatever.
Saying this, I what I can do is download .APK files or apps on my own webspace fine enough. Which then show up in downloads and install fine so just not sure why it is that I cannot install from Market or Appbrain.
The message I get from Market is when clicking install is: Starting Download
And that is it, nothing else happens and it seems to sit on that for endlessly so then cancel it and try to figure out why it wont download so I can install, hence which brings me to here making this post.
Any ideas or possible solutions?
(I have also used the reset factory after doing previous installs with no effect)
Folks, I finally found the answer to my problem to the questions I asked.
For the sake of others whom come across the same problem ever, in this instance it may have something to do with what Modem/Router/Firewall you are using.
The case for me I am using a Billion modem router with firewall set to high and discovered I need to allow TCP port 5228 allow outbound traffic to the exceptions or rules.
This then allows google talk to start straight up and downloads just flew down over my WLAN where I use my phone.
Sorry for all the previous questions or posts, but I never knew that Market downloading was on a Port related task basis.
Good luck to others whom also come across this issue.
Cheers
Same Problme for me..I am using GPRS only how to solve my Problem...
Hi there,
my problem is that I can't download some apps from market. These apps are large (like Angry Birds or similar, bigger that 15 mb). When I try to download a notification appears, which tells me, that it's starting download and then it disappears. And with smaller apps like translator or astrid task list I don't have any problems.
It started about 1-2 weeks ago.
The problem isn't in my network connection - I disabled firewall (droidwall), checked if app will be downloaded on gprs/edge, 3g and multiple wi-fi's (included hotspot made by my friend from his htc, which downloads apps).
I looked over the web to find the solution and here's the list of what I've tried:
1. Log in to gtalk while downloading.
2. Delete market cache.
3. Delete market data.
4. Delete download manager cache&data.
5. Unmount SD card while download is starting (and mount it back).
6. Uninstall market updates.
7. Make '.cache' folder on sd card.
And it didn't work. I didn't try to use factory reset, but I believe you'll find the solution (btw what does factory reset delete?).
Please help me, because I simply don't know what to do next.
Ah, and last thing: I use Android 2.3.5, swiftdroid 2.0 rc4 (based on cyanogen mod 7.1.0 RC1).
Which is the best rom that supports all the things????with out market android sucks
I've been collecting free apps from Amazon on my rooted NC for awhile now. At the time I got each of these apps, they were listed as "compatible" with my device.
Now suddenly a lot of them are not, and I am unable to go back and re-install the ones that I had removed.
Even worse, pretty much everything I've tried so far today to grab has come up as incompatible. Even really simple stuff that should have no problem running.
Oddly, at some point early on, Amazon listed my device as simply "Nook Color". Most of the apps are still showing as compatible with that device. Unfortunately, that's not what Amazon thinks my NC is anymore! I now have a second device on my list called "BarnesAndNoble NOOKcolor", which almost nothing is compatible with.
So then I wanted to check to see if Amazon was behind this, maybe to screw B&N fans. But nope! The Android Marketplace lists every game I've checked so far today as incompatible with my NC!!!
That's certainly news to me, considering some of the games I checked are currently installed on my NC and work perfectly.
I'm not sure what's going on here, but it's sort of scaring me. Who's locking down my rooted NC? If the official android marketplace says everything is incompatible... there aren't a lot of options for getting apps.
Do search with "Market" keyword, you will see about 10 threads with many responses and instructions how to fix this.

There are quite a few threads found that way, but none of the ones I read helped. I did the "stop/restart Framework/Google and reload" and nothing changed. Most of the others seem to be related to problems with the new market, which was working perfectly for me up until today, or problems run into right after rooting. I've been rooted for about 5 months with no market problems of any kind, and I haven't changed anything on my NC for over a month.
I also tried clearing the settings for the Amazon market and also deregistered the device from my amazon account, forcing it to re-register. Still no luck.
Anyone else seeing this, or have another suggestion?
My old market and new market were working fine too, just like yours, until a few days ago. If you try the 160 dpi/reboot/clear-data-from-market procedure below and that doesn't work, then you may have a totally unique problem that just happens to have the same variety of symptoms everyone else is having. (I'm doubtful.) This procedure seems to be fixing the problem for almost everyone else. Did you try it? It fixed mine.
1) set dpi to 160 in build.prop
2) reboot
3) clear market app data (force close first may help?)
4) restart market, accept terms, let it rebuild data at 160 dpi
5) profit
the above we all seem to agree on now. Next steps are more speculative
6) set dpi back to 161 (or whatever you had)
7) reboot
8) profit indefinitely (unknown how long this lasts; I rebooted >5 times including flashing a nightly w/o issue)
9) do NOT clear data again as this rebuilds data at the wrong dpi again.

Thanks, I had tried the first half, but not the second. I used manual nooter, so my dpi entries originally looked like:
ro.sf.lcd_density.xdpi=169.3333
ro.sf.lcd_density.ydpi=169.3333
I don't know if that makes a difference.
Anyway, I just tried the second half of the above process but I'm still showing as incompatible. I wonder if I need to re-noot.
Everyone trying to be helpful here seems to miss the poster's dilemma. He is talking about the Amazon Market, not the Android Market. Hopefully someone familiar with the workings of the Amazon Market will chime in with some suggestions.
My original problem was with Amazon's market, but it looks like that's just a symptom of the bigger problem that I noticed first because I use it every day, as opposed to much less frequent use of the android market.
But the Android market suffers the same problem and from what I've read online it sounds like the problem was started with changes by Google that Amazon also adopted.
Interestingly I noticed this for the first time last night on the Android market and this morning with the Amazon market. Ebook downloads presently are unaffected to my rooted NC. Amazon recognizes my device as an Android but when I tried to make an app purchase this morning it suddenly tried to download it to a BN Nook. Amazon emailed me this morning saying that unless I have their market preloaded by the manufacturer they do not support it. Collusion?
I got the "not compatible" message after installing the most recent update from the Amazon App Store. Fortunately, I have the very first app store apk. I uninstalled the updated app store, then installed the old apk, logged in and then updated it and for some reason that worked for me. You might try not updating also to see if that works. I am not using CM7 though and I'm not manualnootered. I'm minirooted meaning I can side load apps and have superuser access, but no Android Market access and some other things.
I have attached the apk I used. I hope it works for you.

A better question would be is Amazon trying to bork the Nook Color with their app?
Anyone else have a suggestion for getting the Android Market working again for me?
thanks for the APK, I'll try it when I have a chance... But since the Android market from Google doesn't work either I'm hoping for a fix to that.
If you make the change in your build.prop “ro.product.manufacturer=BarnesAndNoble” to “ro.product.manufacturer=samsung” then reboot the device. This seems to fix most of the device compatibility problems in the Amazon appstore. I went down the top 100 paid and free app list, and the only apps that came up with the compatibility problems after doing this are,
Soundhound
Peggle
Thumb keyboard
Trainz simulator THD
Chuzzle
Talking Tom Cat
flexT9
GrooVe IP
Ultra Voice Changer
TV.com
Compass
Also attached is the amazon appstore v.1.14, it has the double click buying fix, but does not give all the compatibility issues. With installing this version does fix the compatibility problem, but you will be constantly hounded with the update reminder.
I don't use Facebook, but I was able to find, install and open the Facebook app with the new market. Do the density change using 240. Its more stable than 160 for whatever reason.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately it had no effect. The first four apps i tried not on your list all came up incompatible, as did stuff on the google market.

The old version of the market is working! I was able to install a number of apps that didn't previously work.
Now if I could just get the Google market to work!
Thanks for that link!
I was having the same problem with the AMAZON appstore (but not the android marketplace, for some reason) but I couldn't find the old amazon appstore apk. Going back to it totally fixed the problem. But you're right, the constant reminders to update the apk are a pain in the whatsus.
Also try going into application management and goto market and tap uninstall updates. Also use titanium backup or similar program to freeze market updater.
By what I read, I bet amazon is trying to block the competition because they are fixing to come out with their own tablets and by horning something like the nook you might be enticed to buy their tablet.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
My markets all seem to do whatever the f*ck they want the moment i need an application that was perfectly available minutes before. What i've done to get around the issue if neither the market or the amazon store have what i'm looking for is: (i know its tedious but hey it works)
1) install astro
2) using your android phone assuming you have one, download the applications you want regardless of them being compatible with the nook color according to the android market.
3) once your files are installed on your phone use astro to create a backup of the .apk files you want (open astro > menu > tools > application manager/backup)
4) i then take my sd card out of my phone and pop it into my nook color and install my apps through w.e file manager it is i have on the nook color
all the games that i cant normally download onto my nook through the official methods i've been able to install and play through the method i've been using. not ALL apps will allow you to back them up though =/
