UPDATE: I would greatly appreciate it if some other users would make similar screen caps as reported below who have not made any changes to the build.prop.
As also pointed out by Mario in his XDA review of the Note 5, scrolling through lists in apps leaves a lot to be desired for. The general fluidity of the UI as well is not up to scratch compared to best out there.
I guess the reason why there aren't more people posting about this is that it's somewhat a subjective thing. Depending on what device you are coming from, the Note 5 might seem buttery smooth. But that is simply not true. I have a OnePlus One updated to the latest CyanogenOS version and it simply a lot smoother. This can easily be shown by using the Profile GPU rendering setting in the developer options and performing the same action on both phones.
(all done after fresh reboot and all other apps closed, same WiFi and logins).

For those that don't know, the horizontal line is the threshold for smooth scrolling (60fps). Anything crossing the treshold can be noticed as jerky behaviour or stuttering. The high outliers are really very noticeable.
Almost without fault is the scrolling on the OP1 of higher frame rate than the Note 5. The Note is almost always flirting with the threshold and the real dropouts are also more pronounced.
Evidence to support what many of us are noticing. Thanks. I have the oneplus one also and noticed the scrolling issues immediately when I switched over. No lag, just choppy scrolling. You're rooted right? Did you try the build.prop changes Mario posted from the s6 and note 4? Some have said it made those other devices feel smoother.

One of the commenters mentioned enabling FHA in build.prop instead which I was reading is what people were doing on the s6 after 5.1.1 rolled out and deleting all DHA parameters. I wonder if this would work on note 5 also? Anyone with root try this?

nah the init.d script is for swapping, not necessarily needed. even if you want to implement it, you couldnt because no rom have init.d support yet.

I don't think it's a defective unit. You can see in the XDA review of the N5 similar screen caps as what I posted. Seems your build.prop is working.

I am a huge fan of stock Android. But with root and bloat removal I just don't really want anything else.
Touchless control is the shyte and functions flawlessly.
The only thing I would like to change is a stock icon/themed status bar.

How about a quick run down on getting these to work. I get an error on GB and MotoXposed doesn't apply changes.

Install the xposed framework first, within that you can download gravitybox and motoxposed as modules. Make sure theyre enabled. Then go into either the gravitybox app or motoxposed app to make changes.

Couldn't agree more.
The reasons I installed custom roms in the past were to increase battery life, install some feature that was missing from my device, or run smoother.
The maxx has everything I need. There aren't any features out there I'm dying to get. Google has solved that with updating through play store. My battery life is nothing short of incredible. I have mobile hotspot thanks to root. And this phone just runs great. No lag at all.
I'm happy with root access on this device. It's amazing

Use 2.2 not 2.3.1 for the xposed framework. You may have issues otherwise.

Any battery issues with Gravitybox/Xposed? I have tried it twice, once on the old root, and again after starting fresh and using the new root, and both times had to disable it after a few days because it tanked my battery.

I had thoughts about that too, but I haven't noticed any difference in battery life. I don't activate too many of the options, like coloring, so that might have something to do with it. I might try disabling it for a week and see if anything is different. If I do, and notice anything, I'll be sure to let you know.

I don't know of about you guys but my phone is horribly laggy right out of the box. I'm on the very first version of the software as I have frozen OTAs. I frequently get sent to other apps or the home screen even if I go really slow when multitasking between apps. This phone is just not that fast and I suspect it's Verizon plastering a thousand apps on the phone as usual.
I have frozen and or deleted every single thing Verizon that I could find but I still suspect there is some crap somewhere hogging resources. I guess it COULD be the phone but I highly doubt it.

I did. Maybe a little better battery life than BNF2. I noticed that it charges up to 95% and then stops charging. I'm going to take the battery down all the way then recharge see if that has any effect. Other than that, I haven't noticed any difference.

I updated mine. My wifi issues are now gone. Thank goodness. I got a new kid mode, got multi user mode, and it uped my antutu x score almost 1000 points. It did however stopped all my apps from changing anything on the sd card. That includes moving stuff there or to the internal storage. I did get the stock filemanger to do it but none if my dowloaded apps work. So mx player won't delete movies or change names, my file manger that I had been busing no longer works with the sd card and so on. Not a big deal since the stock samsung apps still have the ability. I did have to turn of the device and turn it back on after the update to get that to work though. Not that much of a big deal

So today someone I work with from SlimRoms found you can quickly change the dpi of any device running 4.4.2 (not sure if it's possible before that).
I'd post this in Android General, but I don't want to step on his feet, so I'm just posting it here for you guys. (I really hate large text/icons/anything on Android since I'm short sighted)

app drawer:
Obviously I take no responsibility for any issues it causes since it's a purely aosp implementation. I was surprised it was even in user builds.
so. how to do it:
Code:
adb shell wm density <number> # I used 200
or with a terminal emulator (you need root for this [try without to see why you need root]):
Code:
su -c 'wm density <number>'
if you want to go back to the default, do
Code:
wm density reset
The default density is 240 for reference. Lowering the number makes the icons smaller.
Enjoy, and credit to @gmillz from Slimroms for finding this

No, my message wasn't exactly in par with that, because I'm thinking Motorola would've made it wisely to identify carrier name immediately when you start using your phone, sure dragging the notification bar takes time. My old Nokia 1100 had similar fashion carrier name in the left section, and battery bars in right, so I must say its fair enough by them to follow the General cellular phone screen layout guidelines.

Speed it up or turn off. Cause I have none of these issues. Are you rooted and using kernel apps. Maybe something you changed. I used kernel auditor and tried powersave but really bogged so went to on demand. No problems underclocked a couple of steps on cpu too.

Nope not rooted. Speeding up animations won't fix the stuttering, especially when scrolling. The phone feels like it's running in battery saving mode all the time. Same apps I have loaded on my Nexus 6.
CPU Spy only sees a max frequency of 1440 for me. Maybe there's an incompatibility issue with the app as I swore this phone was 1.8ghz

Op stated animations laggy. First I have heard of these issues. A lot of users are waiting for phone still. Plus development is gonna start rolling out this week. Can only get better. Hopefully. Lol

Yes I have one
media server could be using up all your CPU indexing existing files, if you put in an old card

It's a brand new card with nothing on it. I'll take it out and see if there's any difference though

I removed it and rebooted but the lag still exists. I'll try a hard reset and see if that fixes it
Scrolling performance for me has been noticeably worse than my ancient Galaxy S3, especially with Chrome, with only a small set of apps installed. No SD card is installed at this time. I'm chalking it up to having no ad blocking yet and the shear number of pixels being pushed but it's still a bummer.

My Nexus 6 doesn't have this issue. Mine was bad enough that I went ahead and returned it. No excuse for that on a $500 phone

I'm still on the fence, more concerned about my audio issues, but you're absolutely right.. I was expecting a nice upgrade, not a marginally worse Android experience on a larger display.
Oh lolly how much do we love you.. Pure lolly.. But i do love you and hope marshy is better
I got mine in today. I'm super disappointed.. Everything lags..

That is beta 2
EDIT : I guess mine failed and I didn't notice because when it booted up it was still beta 2! I re-downloaded and flashed again and all is good!
I downloaded and installed this. It updated ZTK1, beta 2, to ZTK9, beta 3. So, it is beta 3.
Yeah it's beta3. I checked the update notes and didn't see anything major or groundbreaking yet.
As usual you were so quick to capture it Hayabusa ..Thanks for posting this. .... I did not sideload this time wanted to see if the enrollment worked or not and it did i got the update like 15 mins back... That reminds me if anyone has not been able to enroll in Beta, It might be open right now.
Works great, thank you

The refresh rate is affairs
Adaptive again, throttles down to 60. To me that's worth it to save battery life here and there

Hmm cant think of why, see if using the zip file from This thread works. Also try to see if you can register for Beta - instructions here

I checked and there literally no difference switching the 2. Also I thought it was going to be complicated, the way they had resolution, power mode, and refresh rate tied together. But they have completely undid that. I'm able to change the refresh rate, without changing the power mode, in which I no longer see

Strange, may be something to do with the sim you are using, i am on TMB and i got the update this morning ( 6 am EST). Try looking or it manually like Settings>> Software Update>> Download and Install ..Did you try the other zip file, try that.
I successfully side loaded beta 3 via adb.
Thanks bosses
Mainly typing this to get it on my participated threads so I can download when I get home.
But I hope this fixes a couple of the bugs I'm having with android auto.
But I'm pretty sure it's not going to ?
Unfortunately this update has introduced a few bugs for me. Google maps will not exit navigation from the pulldown menu and I've been getting a lot of screen flickering.
