I am a huge fan of stock Android. But with root and bloat removal I just don't really want anything else.
Touchless control is the shyte and functions flawlessly.
The only thing I would like to change is a stock icon/themed status bar.
What do you guys think?

I had the same thoughts. I changed a few icons in the status bar with gravitybox and motoxposed.

Any issues with either of those?

I only wanted a different battery icon. GSM battery was perfect with a non-root overlay!

How about a quick run down on getting these to work. I get an error on GB and MotoXposed doesn't apply changes.
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
Install the xposed framework first, within that you can download gravitybox and motoxposed as modules. Make sure theyre enabled. Then go into either the gravitybox app or motoxposed app to make changes.

Couldn't agree more.
The reasons I installed custom roms in the past were to increase battery life, install some feature that was missing from my device, or run smoother.
The maxx has everything I need. There aren't any features out there I'm dying to get. Google has solved that with updating through play store. My battery life is nothing short of incredible. I have mobile hotspot thanks to root. And this phone just runs great. No lag at all.
I'm happy with root access on this device. It's amazing

Use 2.2 not 2.3.1 for the xposed framework. You may have issues otherwise.

Any battery issues with Gravitybox/Xposed? I have tried it twice, once on the old root, and again after starting fresh and using the new root, and both times had to disable it after a few days because it tanked my battery.

I had thoughts about that too, but I haven't noticed any difference in battery life. I don't activate too many of the options, like coloring, so that might have something to do with it. I might try disabling it for a week and see if anything is different. If I do, and notice anything, I'll be sure to let you know.

I don't know of about you guys but my phone is horribly laggy right out of the box. I'm on the very first version of the software as I have frozen OTAs. I frequently get sent to other apps or the home screen even if I go really slow when multitasking between apps. This phone is just not that fast and I suspect it's Verizon plastering a thousand apps on the phone as usual.
I have frozen and or deleted every single thing Verizon that I could find but I still suspect there is some crap somewhere hogging resources. I guess it COULD be the phone but I highly doubt it.

I have to second that. I was concerned moving to this phone that it would be slower than my GS4, but I have been very pleased with the responsiveness. No problems at all.
I am rooted, using gravity box, and have bloatware frozen, but even before that it ran extremely well.

I was thinking back to before froyo, when it was good practice in Nexus tweaking to replace the stock launcher.apk in system/app with a modded or third party launcher. I'm not sure if this would be a good bet or not with all the touch wiz integration on my fascinate. Can anyone clue me in on whether this would be worth a shot?

Ha. Answered my own question. Moved the adw launcher file from data/app to system/app, then removed the two TouchWiz30Launcher files from system/app. Phone went bonkers with both launchers force closing continuously. Did a hard shut down, and on start up, everything is great.
ADW is the default launcher, touchwiz is gone, and no evident problems at all so far. Will do more testing and post if anything borks.

What do you gain by doing that? I don't seem to be suffering any ill effects by having LauncherPro as default, and leaving TouchWiz alone. I'm assuming it's running somewhere in the background, but isn't hurting anything. In fact, I'm wondering if some of the TouchWiz apps like the dialer and such require it to be running. If I'm wrong, and removing TouchWiz not only can be done safely, but also produces some benefit, please let us know.

Doesn't affect anything else system wise that I've found, and I've been looking. The main benefit is speed. The stock launcher runs regardless if in system/app, I just don't see it. I suspect battery use as well, but surely negligible. You don't have access to the samsung widgets, but I dislike them anyway, and ported them out. The net responsiveness of my phone is pretty impressive. For the first time I'm not missing my Nexus. Missing froyo though.
I did also disable all the other integrated social networking syncing, mostly for battery life reasons. I can't stand unnecessary crap running in the background.
End of it is that from what I have seen so far, ADW is a lot faster, more functional, and has less battery usage than stock.

Hmm, well I've of the opinion that if it ain't broke, you don't fix it, so I think I'll leave LauncherPro in the /data/app folder. It's so fast already, I probably wouldn't even notice whatever speed boost it may get by moving it. Thanks for testing though!

You wouldn't happen to have a list of the items you've removed, would you? Do you think Angel's Odin /system restore would fix your phone should you accidentally wreck it (because I would like to do this too)?
Just tried this with Launcher Pro, and can confirm the results. I have to re-install my non-LP widgets, but that's expected.
To allow for any future backtracking, I simply renamed the TouchWiz30Launcher files with a ".bak" extension, so if things go south, I can just adb in and rename them back.
Nice find!
Out of curiosity, the samsung lockscreen is still there correct?

Just got this phone last night. Rooted, lag fix and am running LauncherPro Plus. I kinda actually like some of the Samsung widgets but not enough for me to keep that launcher. They did some good things with it but it does slow the phone down.
If you replace/remove the Touchwiz launcher do you lose the pulldown notification bar at the top with the WIFI/etc toggles?
I use launcherpro now and would remove Touchwiz just for the sake of removing it, but I don't want to lose the pulldown notification bar with toggle icons included in it.
Oh if i lose my touchwiz widgets there is no point. I love the daily breifing widget and the scrolling twitter widget. Ill pass!

Nope. The notification bar is not part of the launcher. Only the home screens and app drawers are launcher based.

This post seems to have fudged up? I can't see the list of removed bloat with nill for side affects. I'm looking to root and do the lagfix tonight but would also like to know what I can get rid of with no harm to my device. I'm comfortable with adb and what not but I still panic when my phone is acting improperly I'm far from an expert I'm more of a cut and paste kind of guy if you catch my drift
The GS1 and GS2 had the ability to adjust the screen brightness by sliding your finger across the notification bar. I've seen that in some GS3 custom roms, this feature was added. You had the ability to toggle this feature on or off under a certain subsetting in settings.
Is there a way to add this feature without loading a custom rom? I use it every day on my Epic. Thanks
I really miss this option also!
I think the only way we will be able to get this back is through a custom ROM.

not on stock rom =(
This feature alone will drive me to a custom ROM, but only after the capability to wipe flash counter and go back to stock, in case of warranty need.

Does anybody know how to remove the Verizon pre-loaded contacts? It's been mentioned that Verizon has locked them down, too. You used to be able to delete them but not anymore. I remember that you can freeze com.partnerbookmarks (apologies if that file name isn't 100% accurate) on older phones to get rid of the carrier-provided bookmarks and was wondering if there was something similar to get rid of the Verizon contacts. Not a dealbreaker, but just curious.

Im actually very happy with it stock as is. I would love bootloader unlock only because everyphone i've had was able to be. Im loving active display and touchless control. The camera is great compared to what i had (droid razr hd). Using the Xposed framework allowed me to have the little UI tweeks i like. I would just love a stock 5x5 or 4x5 launcher. I would use nova and always did on AOSP, but I like the Circles widget, it just will not work with 3rd party launchers. Wish we could figure that out too

I'm the same way.. I went from a Motorola electrify to a gs3 on uscc and was excited to finally do what I wanted with my device but with the radio problems of the Samsung devices I opted for Motorola device when switching to Verizon. I do miss that I cannot use my SD card and I only have 11 gigs of free space but I have awesome coverage no dropped calls and now my gs3 is more of an mp3 and game device.

So...does disabling a bunch of apps do the same thing as freezing them?
I was able to go through and disable most if not all of the bloat on this phone and I guess I just assumed it was taken off line. Is that not the case? If it is the case, I highly recommend it as it doesn't screw you out of future stuff.
This may be abit of a ironic question.
But this was more noticeable on my previous device.
flash a CR Custom Rom, boot up, nice and smooth, add xposed and a few mods and there was a noticeable degrade in performance.
Fair enough, am adding more programs to memory, This is to be expected.
but the noticeable effected on my previous device have put me off doing the same to this device.
Its rooted, but no TWRP or Xposed yet.
But i have just now got to a point of frustration i.e. LED Control (Default Colour) Back to Kill.
and various other small tweaks that are starting to grind on me not having access to them.
I used to use about 3 modules on Xposed, Xgel, Gravity and XPrivacy
(Most time i have Xgel Disabled) And very few options enabled for Gravity)
Has anyone had issues or performance, battery drain or slowness in the device? i.e. Input lag / wake screen lag.
I also understand everyone uses Xposed different, and some will have 100 Mods while others will only have 2.
I was just looking for the feedback from the users who have already Xposed themselves :silly:
I have a Rooted S7 Edge (Exynos), TWRP and Xposed installed with Flat Style Bar Indicators, Greenify, XTouchWiz and Youtube Adaway installed.
I did a benchmark with Antutu a couple of days ago without Xposed modules installed. I didnt feel any difference on performance and battery, it comes down to how you tweak your device.
Both benchmarks, beforehand I cleaned with SD Maid and Samsung Manager and I u'pped it "Performance Governer" using Kernel Auditor and Its both in Airplane mode.

Slower boot time with xposed is only thing I've noticed. Everything else as snappy as its always been

because it's a fact of life. so many things that we experience everyday is psychosomatic. it's a big part of causality, and determines many things that we do every day.

No performance from, but I did have a battery drop. Not lasting as long as it was before rooting for some reason

I actually seen it one Note 5 and now on S7 Edge, probably because of the tripped Knox i hope there is a way to counter that, battery life were superbig before root, and now it's barely acceptable.

Yeah I had the note 5 and it was the same thing. That sucks. I've removed root and flashed back stock and still bit the crappy battery life. I mean, it's not bad but it's not as good as it was before

i hope a custom kernel can solve it, the problem is probably Knox counter 0x1 drain the battery at random times, we need someway to bypass it.

And why do you think that alone could drain the battery? Hardly that's the reason.
I noticed a downgrade when I flashed a rom, so i went back to stock which is just normal
[conspiracy=Samsung] they did something that makes 3rd party SoC's and Apps under perform to make themselves look good [\conspiracy]
Idk but something changes when u root. Happened on both Note 5 an gs7 what there is to do?
Same here... Performance drop ROOT
I don't know if Samsung does something similar to Sony when you root. Sony loses alot of the image post processing for low light situations the secodn you unlock it for liscensing reasons they don't want their software getting around from my understanding. Samsung might implement a similar thing on another component of the software for all we know if there truely is some drop in performance.
Weird how some experience a performance drop and others don't tho.
I'm rooted with exposed and I've only noticed slower boot time. I think it has a lot more to do with what apps/modules and processes are running then root alone.
Battery is best ive ever experienced in a phone aswell and that's coming off a note edge

All it says is "11A".
I deferred it for now until someone has some advise. I don't want to not be able to achieve root or something because I took an update out of the box. Haha

Yeah, definitely going to take me a few days. Came from Droid Turbo and 5.1.
Cool on the update, I figure unless there's some functionality broken out of the box, no need to take it until someone can tell us what it is.
I'm getting constant nag notifications for this. I turned off notifications for updates and it just sits in the notification drawer.
Anyone know how to permanently not take updates so I'm not bothered?

WELCOME TO VERIZON,talk about a double-edged sword:
Great coverage & network (YMMV of course),but, man the rest of their practices, not to mentionusing the bastard CDMA technology,is more than anyone should have to tolerate, especially when no real viable options are available.
Can you not disable VZW's bloatware (VZW apps)?
At minimum,I'd disable DT Ignite, not sure if that will help in the nagging, but,it's one less crapware app needlessly running on your phone..............

I forgot, I also went into developers options and turned off automatic system updates. Mine does not nag anymore even after reboot

How do you like the screen compared to Samsung devices.
That's honestly the only thing that keeps me using Samsung phones.

I came from a Note 4 and then S7E to the V20. AMOLED has such a tremendous saturation of colors that no LCD will ever be able to compete on that front. But, the brightness level and clarity is about the same. But it has taken me a few days to get back to accepting this as the new norm. Everytime I load CoC I think something is wrong until I remember I'm on a new device.
I took the update. I think it got rid of app pinning in recents.

anyone has LG VS20 VS995 IMEI?
The IMEI is a unique identifier for your phone,no two phones will have the same IMEI,regardless of carrier &/or model:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Mobile_Station_Equipment_Identity
If you're asking how to find your IMEI,look in SETTINGS > ABOUT PHONE > STATUS
