I deferred it for now until someone has some advise. I don't want to not be able to achieve root or something because I took an update out of the box. Haha

Yeah, definitely going to take me a few days. Came from Droid Turbo and 5.1.
Cool on the update, I figure unless there's some functionality broken out of the box, no need to take it until someone can tell us what it is.
I'm getting constant nag notifications for this. I turned off notifications for updates and it just sits in the notification drawer.
Anyone know how to permanently not take updates so I'm not bothered?

WELCOME TO VERIZON,talk about a double-edged sword:
Great coverage & network (YMMV of course),but, man the rest of their practices, not to mentionusing the bastard CDMA technology,is more than anyone should have to tolerate, especially when no real viable options are available.
Can you not disable VZW's bloatware (VZW apps)?
At minimum,I'd disable DT Ignite, not sure if that will help in the nagging, but,it's one less crapware app needlessly running on your phone..............

I came from a Note 4 and then S7E to the V20. AMOLED has such a tremendous saturation of colors that no LCD will ever be able to compete on that front. But, the brightness level and clarity is about the same. But it has taken me a few days to get back to accepting this as the new norm. Everytime I load CoC I think something is wrong until I remember I'm on a new device.
I took the update. I think it got rid of app pinning in recents.

anyone has LG VS20 VS995 IMEI?
The IMEI is a unique identifier for your phone,no two phones will have the same IMEI,regardless of carrier &/or model:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Mobile_Station_Equipment_Identity
If you're asking how to find your IMEI,look in SETTINGS > ABOUT PHONE > STATUS

If I have one, mine is not blinking.
It works on mine, no real need for it though.
Wonder if I need to turn it on....Blinking on front....not on back. I have it flipped on screen and nothing.
Make a call and see if it comes on. During the call it should slowly pulsate.

wonder if they'll update for the back led?

Yup, got this one as well. Definitely going to try my best not to fall for this one too. I'm assuming this is all related to KNOX which I never have wanted, do not want currently, and never will want in the future.
It honestly looks like they are trying to possibly patch something. Maybe a possible root exploit? Lol
Agreed, I seen similar posts mentioned in the Q & A section here and about people with Dev phones going ahead and taking the updates.
Personally, I will not accept any update regarding security, ect... period due to the comments listed. I don't trust Samsung or Verizon as they are obviously determined to block any attempt at achieving "root" on this device if that even becomes a reality.

Yeah, I got it to. I took it will no ill effect. The security updates that come through the Play Store will not effect an unlocked bootloader in the case of the Developer Edition Note 4s and will not cause a rooted phone to loose root. The Play Store update is only an update to the security app that comes stock on all Note 4s.

I don't have that one in the play store, though it comes up at least once a day through the phone.
So.. Anyone can confirm what this update do?
Questioned Samsung on Twitter and FB
When I questioned Samsung on this, I received two responses. The first that it was a third party app they don't support. The second was that they were looking into it. It has since disappeared from my list of updates.
I believe this is the service that gets updated. I have not been able to find it in the okay store either. Saw it once when it auto updated on me, not since.
I'm pretty sure it's the app itself that's getting the update. What would be considered sneaky is if they update the app and changed the policy so they can force a security update without you agreeing to it.
Is anyone else getting a popup for a system update? Anyone have any idea what is in it or how to stop and auto update?

You could get package disabler, then disable SDM, then restart the device. I did that and it worked. I've always done the debloated ROM tactic in the past, which always removed SDM.apk, but I can't make a ROM without root. Someone mentioned package disabler on here, so I bought it and gave it a shot. It works pretty well. It doesn't remove the apks from the system like a ROM based debloat, but it keeps them from running, which is an awesome feature to have without having root access.

If your battery life is good right now, I wouldn't take the update. Sprint ****ed up the battery life on the GS7E with the pd3 update. I wish I had never updated my phone. I went from 7 to 8 hrs SOT down to 4 to 5 hrs after the update. It is caused by a GPS bug.

I'm having some concerns. I got the essential phone a few days ago. The first one had a 6 hour screen time, but over 2 days it would not activate on Sprint so Sprint and I agreed to exchange it. The replacement got hot and now I got the 3rd one. This one is really odd now. When it boots up it doesn't automatically download anything. I have to physically unlock it so it can get my emails and all. Then yesterday it had the shortest battery life and demanded downloading apps over WiFi. I let it download all night and it still didn't download everything... and I found the battery really used up badly without even touching the phone. It also won't download software updates claiming it's the latest. Security update is September 5th.
Also... Anyone else notice it states encrypted without actually activating encryption?

I've not had any battery issues, but I just got the phone again yesterday, had to return one because it had a bad microphone. I have noticed, however, that I tend to get notifications when I pick up the phone. Now, like I said, I just got it yesterday, so my experience pool is shallow, but I can't think of a time that notifications were waiting for me when I picked it up rather than showing up when I picked it up - like the movement is kicking something into functioning again.
As for encryption, I think all Android devices are encrypted out of the box now, and have been since Marshmallow? They tried with Lollipop, if I recall, but performance was hurt too much. I think it's a requirement to ship a device with Google's app infrastructure now.
Can anyone confirm that it shows encrypted on thiers too?

I suspect that it's like Nexel and Pixel phones. If so, have to wait for SuperSU and/or factory images, so one can extract the kernel and modify it.

As stated already, all Android devices are encrypted out of the box since marshmallow. So every device running marshmallow and up will say encrypted because it is encrypted be default. There is no way to disable it without a modified boot image.

This is the same for me after each restart. I also have to unlock the phone first. I don't have a problem with that though. I actually prefer it this way in the event that the phone is lost or stolen. It will not be updated without first being unlocked.
