Hello,
as the startpost(and the linked official statement by LG) says - right now officially no.
If the devs find a way - to unlock the bootloader unofficially - nobody knows right now. But it seems not so easy...
But you can root your device and use flashfire to flash mods etc. for now.
Greetings
Medzinmann
Confirm my UK EE Device was unable to be unlocked before.
I have just unlocked it finally.
LG H815 o2 Germany working. So the race for custom roms is opened up now on all H815 European devices, branded or not.
I see only a faq but where can download?

Still no love for the H815 USA.
Still no love Sprint either?
The only thing holding me back from doing this is this warning on the LG Dev Website -
Some content on your device may no longer be accessible or playable due to invalid DRM keys.

Has anyone who has unlocked noticed any media etc not working? Netflix, Play Movies, Deezer, other forms of Streaming media etc?
I've only ever unlocked HTC's & Nexus' before and they have no such caveats. I'm led to believe Netflix and HD videos on Youtube don't work after you unlock a Sony device, is that the case here? (Can't find a conclusive yay or nay either way).
I've unlocked and I haven't come across any app that won't function due to DRM. As expected a few apps have issues with root i.e. halifax and nowtv. All of the apps you listed function perfectly after unlocking. Unlock any bootloader and you could have issues with DRM, it's not specific to LG. That being said it's a one way process so no relocking.

Anyway it's a superb news because I missed TWRP. I hope Marcosuper7 and the other devs will do a flashable zip of their roms

Not sure how it works with LG but in HTC there is a process where you can convert the carrier version to unlocked model or developer models by changing the model id, cid and then flashing the unlocked firmware.
Is there similar process where we can convert the US carrier model to international or unlocked model with the ability to get direct OTAs from LG instead of the useless US carriers.
Sent from my LG-D851 using Tapatalk
No, no similar process.
HTC offers that? That sounds awesome!

They don't but it's pretty straight forward process once you unlock bootloader.

Hi, the G4 root was made available today and without asking for ETAs (I know ya'll hate that), I'm curious as to how many ROMs and Kernels you think will be made available for it over time? Do you think that there will be as many available as there were for the G3? I do understand that these things take time and a lot of hard work, and I'll be patient, but I'm still super excited to get mine on stock lollipop and improve the battery life (maybe?).
I'm sure enough will be out soon. Wait a day or three.

Patience young grasshopper. All will be well.
I had almost given up hope on my G4, but now. I see the light at the end of that glorious 16MP OIS camera which I have grown to love, roll on the roms and amazing dev support we all saw for the G3.
I just want to know what apps or widgets can I remove from the T-Mobile g4 that will help the phone have a better battery life or have better performance

You cant install roms without a custom recovery, and in order to get cutom recovery you need the bootloader unlocked. Only model currently able to unlock the bootloader is the EU model.
Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
You can unlock the T-Mobile version by checking enable oem unlock under developer options. Once rooted you can use flashify to flash twrp. Its under original android development under the tmobile g4 forums if any other t mobile users need it. I've already used it to create a backup and it's working fine.

Pretty much this.
Root simply means we have access to system files to manage them according to our own liking.
In order to flash ROM's, your bootloader needs to be unlocked. The reason why root was so easily available on the H815 EUR model is because the bootloader was unlockable officially through LG, which meant simply flashing a custom recovery, in this case TWRP, then flashing SuperSU.zip gives you full root access. H815 EUR users have had it good for a while now, I sure envy them! But once a method to unlock the bootloader becomes available, we'll be able to flash custom ROM's and the whole lot. As with anything else - it's just a matter of time.
Just going to hop in here to state that I'll be working to bring AICP to the G4 ASAP.

Been there, done that today. Got TWRP installed and got rid of the extra crap Tmobile put on here.
I would just be happy with a debloated stock rom with some added options such as center clock and to clean up the status bar icon clutter (alarm, NFC, 2 data icons, battery mod.

I honestly do not know why OEM's don't let us do that already. It's so utterly bizarre. In this day and age, we really shouldn't have to go to such extents for slightly more convenient/better looking icons in the status bar.
At least Sony lets its users customise the status bar a bit. My Xperia Z3+ lets me customise what icons are shown, but won't let me move the clock or change the battery icon.
The G4 will be a speed demon if it gets CM12.1 My only worry being the camera and if it'll still produce amazing shots. I know that the physical camera itself with its f1.8 aperture lens is the reason why low light shots are amazing, but I wonder how much of it is down to the software's post processing. Time will tell, I hope.

I was able to get all the files into the proper dir but I'm not sure if I set the permissions correctly on a couple of the files, at any rate it resulted in the phone hanging on boot animation. 810 variant.
You need to install xposed through twrp, which is currently only available for select H815's and H811's. There is a theory similar to the way most people achieved root to get xposed, where you get a system image with xposed installed already and flash it, but I can't really comment on its validity.
I'd only be concerned if an xposed module causes some sort of bootloop and you can't do much other than flash a system img which means you lose a lot of data. No working recovery is risky

The permissions still need to be set properly with a slipstreamed system image i believe, hopefully someone with more experience tries it out.
Is there a way i can install xposed mannually with a locked bootloader? I have the h815 model and i cant unlock the bootloader.
Worked on my H811.

nope, come back in a little time though if you're feeling lucky
Has anybody tried method described in:http://www.androidinfotech.com/2016/12/root-lg-v20-h990ds-nougat-twrp.html
That won't because one of the initial steps suggests that you follow the official bootloader unlocking procedure by submitting your device ID on the LG website to receiver a bin file which you would use to unlock your bootloer. The problem is, LG does not offer bootloader unlocking for the 990DS at this time and likely never will, so the procedure would fail right there and you wouldn't be able to move on to the steps that follow..
I keep seeing post all over the internet saying the same thing. Enable Developer Mode (clicking about multiple times, as always) then fastboot reboot bootloader, then install TWRP and then SuperSU from that.
Is this real or nonsense that is just being spread like wildfire?
I have two LG-G6 I just bought, but dont want to risk a fake root which make hinder getting a true Root later on, nor a more complete root becoming available after installing 400 apps.
If its not on XDA its fake and not to be trusted. Good rule of thumb. Also there is no way of recovering a bricked device this early.
I couldn't agree more with @bamfsig45 there's fake news ESPECIALLY when it comes to phones everywhere. Wait for something to come off XDA.
Yeah, I figured that too. It's just seeing it so much and people swearing by it had me a bit curious. I'll definitely be waiting to see it here first before actually implementing the root though.
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/lg-g6-root-twrp-recovery/ this is the site to look for when the phone launches tomorrow just as good as XDA

I can't vouch for this one on the G6, but kingroot also said this bs with the g5 when it wasn't rooted yet either. They don't have much credibility imo
Kingo root did not work, Kingroot did not work, and a couple of others. I used an AT&T G6.
Greg
From what I have read, they are polishing it up and making it work for the general public for the T-Mobile model only. The T-Mobile model allows boot-loader unlock, out of the box.
KingRoot 3.5 doesn't work for me
Kingroot has zero credibility.
