Not sure how it works with LG but in HTC there is a process where you can convert the carrier version to unlocked model or developer models by changing the model id, cid and then flashing the unlocked firmware.
Is there similar process where we can convert the US carrier model to international or unlocked model with the ability to get direct OTAs from LG instead of the useless US carriers.

No, no similar process.
HTC offers that? That sounds awesome!

No, they do not. it's a "hack" to convert it.

They don't but it's pretty straight forward process once you unlock bootloader.

I've read elsewhere that the new S4 bootloader has locked.
Can someone verify this?
How does it affect the usage of the device?(i.e CM,AOSP etc)
So far only on the AT&T and Verizon models.
They'll have root for now but no custom recovery/roms.

I just want to know a bit more about it...I've got the I9505 model, which is definately not AT&T or Verizon.
But it's not confirmed yet, isn't it?

The AT&T and Verizon bootloader is locked, which will restrict flashing roms and kernels but not root for those devices until the bootloader is unlocked. The international versions seem to be not locked so that does apply to all the octa versions.

short story: the international isn't the carriers are
effect on dev gives them a extra work to do

Is there any simple way to find out whether is locked or not?

There isn't sadly. People were saying if you boot into download mode and it said Write Protection: Enabled that the bootloader was locked, as is the case for atnt and verizon, but the it says the same thing for sprint and our bootloader does not seem to be locked- it's a bit more complicated to actually know and I don't have the tech knowledge to explain it as well as someone else probably could. Probably should find others with your exact phone in the forum and just read what they have said cause this has been a huge topic over the last few days that everyone has been asking.

Hello there,
Since the American versions of this phone seem to be bootloader locked, would it be possible to get the Canadian version, on say, Rogers, which isn't bootloader locked, and use it on AT&T? Would I get LTE this way as well? Thanks.
Absolutely. Should work no problem. Just add apn settings and simcard

Sorry to sound uninformed, but what is APN settings? Also, is there a more practical way to get an unlocked version from within the U.S. itself? Such as from T-Mobile?
I sold a Canadian HTC M7 from Telus on the US market with the bootloader unlocked but the new owner could not simply insert his SIM into the phone. It was SIM locked. Locked bootloader is completely different story than locked SIM (the device is locked to work only with a particular carrier's SIM). I had to get an unlock code and then worked. Be aware about this.
Here is your explanation:

Hey Folk,
Will the Sprint variant of the HTC 10 work on tmobile? Thanks in advance!
I am also curious about this!
It will need to be modified, unlocked bootloader, TWRP and S-off. Most likely you won't see a thread for this as the US Unlocked version can work on T-mobile

Hey Schmeggy, can you point me to the modification part? I think all the other parts are straightforward, but don't know what you mean by modified.

You can check here http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-one-m9/general/sim-unlock-thanks-to-gcprokey-t3166761 it is' for the M9 and 6.0 A9. No idea if this works for the 10. I have always had Sprint and really don't know much about SIM Unlocking

Hi bro, i have unlocked my 626s in the past with this seller and so i asked him about my HTC 10 half week ago. He told me that he can but that the data would not work and i accepted for 35.00 (phone will be used overseas and they don't care too much about data) checked my SIM with T-Mobile and yes, voice and messages working great but no data. He said he was working to fix it or something (i don't really care now because phone will be in another country on a few days lol)
Didn't find the listing that i bought but find a similar one, but ask him to see if he can help you.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/252482705719?
need to unlock in order to use on other networks.
Will we get rom and root love ❤ or will we not?
And any info on the bootloader if unlocked or not?

If you want to unlock you need to get a T-Mobile LG as their usually always unlockable.

is it in the stores yet to play with?
Good luck with AT&T unlocking their bootloaders. We had AT&T up until recently and it was always a pipe dream to get an unlocked bootloader. Buy an unlocked model or get the TMobile version.
Who has the AT&T model and converted to the Canadian model? It seems theres a few posts on it but really not a lot of info of experiences.
I know how to use LGUP etc, but its been a general rule to NOT flash wrong model firmwares and I even have to tell people myself in some of my threads But does Antirollback no apply to the AT&T G6? Just flash via uppercut and good to go?
Why would you want to convert to H873?
What are the pro's?
Asking cos I am new to g6 added looking for info if h873 can work ok on At&t USA

The LS997 firmware does give volte. But once done sadly no returning back to AT&T firmware due to lack of having it. https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-g6/how-to/convert-upgrade-att-g6-to-h873-oreo-t3791848 I posted a guide awhile back. But no returning if you ever do it.
Talking about my website? Lol I blew the fish up with fireworks. The videos on my site where just tests I never removed [emoji23]
H.Smokes that fish went to hell or heaven in a hand basket! Firework effects look better than some slugs through it. I will check out the vid later.
I am hunting for the US997. A clueless buddy has a US997, he says. He sent me that the unit has LGUS997AUSAPL. How do I make sure this is not the US997U USCellular ver.?

That I’m unsure on how to check for the US.Cellular version. But yeah would avoid it. I currently run US997 firmware on my H871.
Looking at what you posted it seems to be the unlocked version. Might could ask what the IMEI is, it should tell if it is or not.

By flashing the US997 firmware like the H873 firmware. You would just miss WiFi calling if you have att postpaid. I use it on my 2nd line on AT&T prepaid.

So you can just flash us997 fw on h871, no root is needed prior? Is it just kdz flash or is there a specific set of steps? If so, any link?
Also boot loader on h871 is not unlockable so it's limited to stock roms only, custom roms are not flushable, correct?
Do you know if you can flash US997 or any gsm fw on Verizon vs988 same way as for h871?
What about flashing h870fw on h872 t mobile?

Only h871 to LS997 or H873. You’d brick your device if you did. Only T-Mobile firmware for the H872
