Hey,
By now everyone using the stock lollipop provided to us by sony must be pissed at the constant launcher redraws.
And hoping that not many of you have cannon-ed their phone at the wall, here is a temporary fix. This is a root app available on google play that allows the user to lock an app in system memory [RAM] hence no redraws. There is marked difference, see for yourself. The free version will allow you to lock one app to system memory. To fix the launcher redraws, lock "xperia home" and voila an easier life with less anxiety hope they fix this intrinsically with the 5.1.1 (fingers crossed)

This is merely fixing the symptoms not the cause. Memory leaks will still happen and other apps such as for example Walkman will close.
Now that 5.1 is standing on our porch I'd rather wait it out instead of messing with the priority of my apps.
I'd go as far to say I'm rather restarting my Z1 once a day making some use of that smooth psx bootlogo
URL is broken, remove the colon on the end of the line.
Sorry mate, try now

Its not supposed to fix the multitasking. Just to prevent the
Launcher from taking a good 4 seconds to load everytime
You exit an app and press home.
i use system monitor and home redraws when ram is arround 300mb, all apps will force close
I know but as i said no improvements, it still takes over 4 seconds to close chrome... now it kind a loads it in background before chrome fades away... cannot explain it, like when i press home, it waits for home to redraw, then it closes chrome... before it just closed chrome instant, then waited to home to redraw... timely no improvement at all, still need to wait that 5 second after home button is pressed before i can continue. then another annoying thin is that your app asks for root like 7 times in a minute, constant toasts about it... ofc i can disable the toasts but yeah. aaand ive been losing my wallpaper many times in this couple days ive been using it. problems problems... luckily 5.1.1 is on the door really soon !

I get you, but that's system lag. When chrome actually does close, earlier on you had to wait for all the icons to appear. Now it doesn't happen for me. Chrome closes instantly on my device (rockz1-3.3.1). Maybe you have some other app messing up or maybe a sensitive memory killer in place. Yea hope they fix it, i dunno why i have a bad feeling

Eventually it will redraw yes, this app only sets the lowest priority for "xperia home" to be killed when your memory is clogged and your system needs it.
Problem solved.
Just download pimp my z1 and go to memory management -> and change swapping memory from 60% to 30%
What I guess is Sony built z1 5.0.2 based on 3gb ram devices such as z2 or z3 and forgot to change the swapping memory %
The memory remaining of 2gb and 3gb are totally different!

I have Home++ I use the kill all feature on the rocket dock. it then says your free memory is 160mb. which am happy with, and then 5 - 10 minutes later, with my phone just being idle, i click on to see what apps are running and. i have about 15 apps running. from doing nothing.
Not sure why my apps run automatically, also when i turn on my phone, every single app turns on. WTF!!!
It's meant to. That is how android and linux works.

thats simply not the way it works, let them run, if the o/s sees there is another program that wants some ram it will clear some by killing lesser priority apps.
I stopped using task killers about 3 weeks ago. My phone runs much quicker now I've stopped killing everything... Let the tech do it's own thing and it works surprisingly well....

have you even tried to use the phone without a task manager? the apps in the background are in a frozen state, which means they are simply cached in the ram so when you restart them they open instantly AND retain the old state. there is absolutely no reason to kill an program unless the program bugged out.
mine runs ok i have this kind of apps called FSFILE EXPLORER in this apps wen i hit the menu you can see task manager then all previous apps that i open it highlighted into green color hit kill selected witch is highlighted then memory increase.... nothing is running on the idle.
unused ram is wasted ram
Ok guys will uninstall my task killer and see how i get on thanks
The advice of not killing aps doesn't really wash when you have apps that cause battery drain. I find that killing apps increases battery life.

So when the X10 first got released, everyone was blaming Moxier for being a battery pig regardless if you were using it or not. Are we now saying that isn't true?
That's correct - Moxier doesn't use any juice (not noticeable anyway).. I ran a test with wifi off and data/ mms off over night.. so it was just basically a dumb phone with loads of fancy apps.. it used 2% in about 8 hours...
No start up auditor, no task manager... I am running Helix Launcher.
It's natural to not want apps running in the background. What's the first thing you want to do to optimise your PC? Remove unused startup processes and background tasks. It's more important for a phone which has more limited resources than a PC.
I don't use Moxier Mail, Timescape or PlayNow. But for some reason they all open themselves up in the background every so often.
Iceman, I feel pretty lame for trying to manage the apps so much. Going to try a the same test tonight to see what happens.

Hi!! I have a problem, I'm currently Running Darky's 10.1 with dark core 2.6... Everything is smooth and snappy, however the system keeps killing my launcher everytime I launch an application whether it be a game, browser, news app... Whenever I exit the app the launcher reloads and it makes the phone really really slow and laggy for 10-15 seconds...
I currently using ZEAM launcher, not sure whats causing this, i've been using this launcher since its launch and only had this problem when i was on stock froyo...
Any ideas what can be done to fix this issue...
Thanks!!
Same problem here.
I am on GigerReal 7.1.3 and the worse thing is when it you try to make a phone call and the bloody thing just restarts the phone every third key pressed.
I can only call using voice calling when this happens...
I am using LauncherPro but it also happens in Ginger Launcher and TW Launcher 4.5
Just out of interest guys, how much free memory is showing for you in Settings > Applications > Running Services ?
I am running stock JVQ and although the phone works fine after initial boot (with around 180mb free) this number seems to drop over time and results in any new application clearing any other app from the memory. This even meant that if I got a text message while using the web browser and replied to it, by the time I went to return to the browser it had to reload where I was from scratch. It was also clear that after playing a game and returning to the home screen, even this was having to reload and "redraw" again.
That in itself is a minor annoyance but eventually it seemed to get so bogged down the whole system froze with the "black screen of death" and I had to do a forced reboot. I'm aware, of course, that JVQ is not an official release so it's not fair to be too harsh on Samsung here...
I seem to have a lot of memory free. It happens after the phone has been up for some time.
I noticed that launcher pro was reloading the widgets every time it starts. Also i seem to notice that it happens when you dial a couple of numbers and it starts giving you suggestions from the contacts. So it could be contact related?

This is the same that happens on my system... The launcher just reloads all the widgets everytime I close an application... the amount of ram is always close to 243/337.. So its close to 90-100 mb free, which is enough i suppose... Still the launcher just reloads everytime an app is closed... Its really getting annoying...
basicly you must set HOME_APP_ADJ to 0 making home app unkillable =)
am not sure but probably do that
/data/local.prop -> add such line ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=0
and restart - have not tested just pure theory (the .prop location)

Actually, putting the value as 1 worked better for me. My launcher so far has not been killed even once.
ya 1 should work flawlesly
0 is making it bulletproof/unkillable at any state
but 1 should be safest value
I think Spare Parts allows you to adjust the task killer's sensitivity. Maybe have a play with that and relax the settings.

Attached is an APK which adds that line. Make sure you're rooted first. I wrote it in the past 10 minutes, so it's very simple and might crash, but it did work for me.
Just install it, launch it, confirm root and then watch out for a small message. If successful it will directly ask you to uninstall it. Reboot, and done.
there is also ro.HOME_APP_MEM that can be changed to 4096
to follow other oom_adj=1 settings =)

Try changing the lowmemoty killer setting to something less aggressive. Your phone is trying to keep too much free memory so has to kill off apps.
Download Galaxy Tuner (using memory manaber option)and set the application cache values to the new samsung default as follows:-
fa=10 MB
va=16 MB
ss=20 MB
ha=24 MB
cp=28 MB
ea=32 MB
Make a note of your current settings in case it doesnt help.
You can also use Galaxy Tuner to set JEWE's file system cache
, settings are:-
SWP: 50
VCP: 10
DEC: 5
DWC: 10
DRA: 90
DBR: 5
These work well for me so give them a whirl, you can always put the values back to where they are now.
mate the problem is solved already - please read dont spam those juwe crappy values ok ?

You're both welcome. That's what [helping out] XDA is for after all
Hello. Well have this last update for our devices official from samsung. And I thought on helping samsung perfecting it. So in order to so that I think we should make this thread where we all together say wich are the bugs we found. I find already 2 bugs on the email app wich leads to a lot of wakeup calls, makes the phone use alot cpu and force closes when we touch on priority mail. There are other bugs wich people found here so I think we should list them.
Rules are simple, if you find a bug, report here and say how to replicate it. We together see it, and list here to report to samsung. Also suggestions to make things better. (of bugs or things you think that could be better)
Since they give us a ROM. At least a perfect well done one. What do you think? They need happy costumers. Or well go elsewhere.
Ps: if you can leave logcat, I'll leave on the email all log cats attached to each bug
List of bugs:
The Email app crashes when the general options, and priority email sections are accessed.
Buggy Microsoft Exchange integration. It seems to use an excessive amount of resources causing battery drain. This problem only seems to exist within the default Email app.
Smart stay not working properly.
Samsung keyboard's gesture typing is unable to properly detect and type the whole word.
Swype Keyboard won't automatically insert a space (I don't think this is a bug due to the text field being an address bar)
Sometimes, lock screen is unresponsive.
In the app drawer, when the apps are sorted alphabetically, then as downloaded apps it crashes Touchwiz Home.
In Car Mode, TalkBack is not functioning and is very unresponsive.
Google Maps and Samsung Push Services uses an excessive amount of battery when it is not used.
Throughout the OS, there are issues with stuttering and lack of responsiveness.
Wi-Fi connection often freezes after deep sleep of around 10 - 15 minutes ("Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" is set to "Always"). Wi-Fi notification icon shows that it's connected, but no data can be sent or received. (Only solution found so far is to manually disconnect and reconnect.)
In the camera, there is a reddish blemish on the center when the camera is used in low-light situations(I believe this is a hardware issue.)
Project Butter seems to be improperly implemented.
Unable to use the handwriting function on the Samsung Keyboard because it force closes.
Nasty color banding
After reboot , changes made in launcher menu will go back to how it was in begining (for example Folders created, disapear, or just the apps inside it, will be offside)
Suggestions list:
Music Controls (most members suggest this)
Lock screen more costumizable with possibility of more than three icons, something new I found ugly the way we unlucky the screen. (votes?)
Quick reply as cm has (i find this really useful, votes?)
Option to set if we want zoom in or zoom out option in the rear of the phone while browsing
in powermore , on the browser, instead of blue, an option to keep the white.
More sms before converting to mms, or if possible a manual option for that.
Lockscreen sometimes unresponsive, and the hand writing (?

Battery life seems to be sucking!
Gonna reformat my sdcard & then put my media on it & see if that helps before having to do a factory reset.. used to get 2-2.5 days our of a charge now this battery prediction add-on is saying 10 hours left on a battery I just put in an hour ago. Completely stock & not rooted, so backups are a pain & Helium apparently isn't 100% so that option seems pointless. Suggestions?

Not sure yet -
I haven't noticed any issues with Maps. I kinda like the new swipe on the lock screen to swipe to the phone dialer. I don't like taking away the audio controls on the power button screen. Love the fast camera focus (didn't know about that till I read this thread).
For whatever reason I can't seem to find the trusted devices thing for my FitBit...
EDIT:
Scratch that. Gotta enable SmartLock in the security settings.
Do you guys recommend a complete reset?
My most wanted feature was the combined security lock screen (Finger lock, PIN, etc) and I can't seem to find a way to enable it here.
I don't like the new lock screen notifications now. I don't need to see my BT devices and Ultimate Rotation Control on my lock screen. I'm fine with the missed calls, texts and emails but not with the others taking up unnecessary screen space.
Anyone know how to get them to show back up in the notification bar up top?
I like the camera, UI changes, look, etc. Overall system seems quicker. I have not had any issues so far but it has been less than 1 day of usage. I did notice the battery discharged quickly at first, however it seems that the battery drain is leveling off after a while.
I always used the stock messenger app. I really don't like all the orange. I'm trying alternatives now. So far textra is nice with black background
Calls don't work with android auto.
You guys tried benchmarks? Look antutu, is extremely low!! :/
Hi all!
I am a Samsung user genuinely. But since my last phone broke down, it broke my budget too.
Got Nova and here are some bugs.
1) Bluetooth speaker issue. the sound is way late than the video. (Edit: Fixed by going in developer options and changing "Bluetooth audio codec")
2) Camera is not having any kind of stabilization.
3) It hangs like hell and u r not left with any option. Not even restart.
4) Not the fastest 4gb ram phone.
5) The interface of the phone is laggy af ( can be fixed by installing 3rd party launchers).
6) Processor temps are never lower than 60 degree C. Idk if its fine or not but antutu temp sensor always shows it in red text.
These are the ones I could find... tell if u have any.. or at least have found fix for any of them.
BTW...
Today got an update of 288MB which is currently downloading. Hope it fixes some bugs.

Lol I kinda like mine, except for a few things I guess but I got it for a good deal, well I reckon anyway - $380 NZD.
What did you replace it with?
Hello! These issues, especially the Camera app being buggy, are common.
The performance issue, please go to settings > Battery > Battery Usage and see which apps are using a lot of background usage, then click on the app and there's written 'App Launch', click on that and toggle off the 'Manage Automatically' and also toggle off all of the toggled on things to prevent the app from consuming background usage.
On this device you can also disable/uninstall many apps that if u dont need, please do so, here are some list of apps you can disable which would improve performance:
1. Gmail (replace with another mail client like FairEmail)
2. Youtube (replace with another application like NewPipe)
3. You can also disable playstore and the main Google app.
4. You can also disable Google Play Services, this consumes a lot of background usage, more than HMS! You can replace playstore with F-Droid and you can get FOSS apps.
5. Replace Facebook with Frost for Facebook, or disable background access to it from the previous performance issue guide.
I am not getting performance issue on mine, so make sure u check which apps are using background/battery usage a lot so you'd find out.
