Hi!! I have a problem, I'm currently Running Darky's 10.1 with dark core 2.6... Everything is smooth and snappy, however the system keeps killing my launcher everytime I launch an application whether it be a game, browser, news app... Whenever I exit the app the launcher reloads and it makes the phone really really slow and laggy for 10-15 seconds...
I currently using ZEAM launcher, not sure whats causing this, i've been using this launcher since its launch and only had this problem when i was on stock froyo...
Any ideas what can be done to fix this issue...
Thanks!!
Same problem here.
I am on GigerReal 7.1.3 and the worse thing is when it you try to make a phone call and the bloody thing just restarts the phone every third key pressed.
I can only call using voice calling when this happens...
I am using LauncherPro but it also happens in Ginger Launcher and TW Launcher 4.5
Just out of interest guys, how much free memory is showing for you in Settings > Applications > Running Services ?
I am running stock JVQ and although the phone works fine after initial boot (with around 180mb free) this number seems to drop over time and results in any new application clearing any other app from the memory. This even meant that if I got a text message while using the web browser and replied to it, by the time I went to return to the browser it had to reload where I was from scratch. It was also clear that after playing a game and returning to the home screen, even this was having to reload and "redraw" again.
That in itself is a minor annoyance but eventually it seemed to get so bogged down the whole system froze with the "black screen of death" and I had to do a forced reboot. I'm aware, of course, that JVQ is not an official release so it's not fair to be too harsh on Samsung here...
I seem to have a lot of memory free. It happens after the phone has been up for some time.
I noticed that launcher pro was reloading the widgets every time it starts. Also i seem to notice that it happens when you dial a couple of numbers and it starts giving you suggestions from the contacts. So it could be contact related?

This is the same that happens on my system... The launcher just reloads all the widgets everytime I close an application... the amount of ram is always close to 243/337.. So its close to 90-100 mb free, which is enough i suppose... Still the launcher just reloads everytime an app is closed... Its really getting annoying...
basicly you must set HOME_APP_ADJ to 0 making home app unkillable =)
am not sure but probably do that
/data/local.prop -> add such line ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=0
and restart - have not tested just pure theory (the .prop location)

Actually, putting the value as 1 worked better for me. My launcher so far has not been killed even once.
ya 1 should work flawlesly
0 is making it bulletproof/unkillable at any state
but 1 should be safest value
I think Spare Parts allows you to adjust the task killer's sensitivity. Maybe have a play with that and relax the settings.

not the one that you can setup with this useless juwe script for example

Attached is an APK which adds that line. Make sure you're rooted first. I wrote it in the past 10 minutes, so it's very simple and might crash, but it did work for me.
Just install it, launch it, confirm root and then watch out for a small message. If successful it will directly ask you to uninstall it. Reboot, and done.
there is also ro.HOME_APP_MEM that can be changed to 4096
to follow other oom_adj=1 settings =)
@martino2k6
Thanks a lot dude... The apk installed perfectly... I'm already seeing improved performance from my device... The launcher hasn't been killed once since the install...
Thanks again for all your help... appreciate it...

Try changing the lowmemoty killer setting to something less aggressive. Your phone is trying to keep too much free memory so has to kill off apps.
Download Galaxy Tuner (using memory manaber option)and set the application cache values to the new samsung default as follows:-
fa=10 MB
va=16 MB
ss=20 MB
ha=24 MB
cp=28 MB
ea=32 MB
Make a note of your current settings in case it doesnt help.
You can also use Galaxy Tuner to set JEWE's file system cache
, settings are:-
SWP: 50
VCP: 10
DEC: 5
DWC: 10
DRA: 90
DBR: 5
These work well for me so give them a whirl, you can always put the values back to where they are now.
mate the problem is solved already - please read dont spam those juwe crappy values ok ?
Ok, cool

How do i close a program in the magic, i dont want it running in the background. Is there a prog like a taskmanager or something..??
Hi ,
Download "advance task manager lite" off the Market. This is a very very helpful app which can close all your programs running and very simple to use. And it is Free.
If you need anymore help feel free to post back

There is no such app in my market. Can anyone share a free version? Thanks

It's a free version. The actual name is "Advanced Task Manager Lite" so do a search on "Advanced".
I did do a search and can't find it. Anyone else managed to find it under Rogers in Canada?
I can easy find it. I use it every day, but i find it a bit strange that you cant close apps in any other way! And alot of programs doesnt have a "Quit/Exit" function.
Does anyone have any explanation to why its not possible to close programs without download extra programs?
you know,
I think i heard Something about when you leave the app , it does actually sort of close.
It saves the state you left it in (freezes) and unfreezes when you enter it again. So really the App is not running or using any comsumption at all until you are in the app.

This is true.
It is because android is awesome at app management. There is no real need for closing apps. It leaves apps kinda open (saves their state in ram) but not running. That`s why most apps open so fast. And even though more ram is "in use" it doesn`t cost you battery life.
Thanks for confirming ,
What a fantatic way , The OS is fantastic and I can guarantee that Android has alot of potential and Can only get better and come up with more technological breaking idea's!!

Anyway. I love Android more and more. But i was shocked when i found out that you cant send or receive files via bluetooth. I hope this is their number 1. priority in the next released. I mean, comon .. phones have been able to do this for 10 years now!

i did not find it either. i m using rogers too
but you can download Close Everything at Market for free.
i think those apps are similar. the only difference is you have to close EVERYTHING instead of choosing an app to end it.
anyway, the system is not getting slower even i open lots apps.
maybe, the "freeze" thing is true
yesterday I had my phone fully charged before i got to sleep, in the morning 8 hours later the battery was almost empty. GPS and WIFI was disabeld, so I think all the programs in the "background" ( a lot ) killed the battery.
Or what do you think killed the batt?

if you disable background data usage in data sync that will save batt life and lower data usage too.

i do not know how that app works ~oops~
maybe it does not work at all hahaha
not all programs stop running. some are designed to run in the background
the only real way to check what is running is to use a task manager
I paid $0.99 for advanced task manager. Its a good, but basic app. And hardly breaks the bank at that price!
The other issue I get is "go slows" sometimes on the phone. It doesn't seem to crash, just response times go into the seconds. I switch off and on to soft reset and its fine.

Why should I disable data usage? If i have an app that use data, then I only need to close the app. Please correct me if I´m wrong.
I just spent some time trying to figure out what had broken my contacts functionality and this was it. Again, removing "blur_yahoo.apk" and the associated .odex file will break the contacts app. After removal, clicking on a contact in the dialer/contact app will just shut the app down. I've no idea why, since the yahoo app is for yahoo mail.

I noticed that freezing some of the messaging/social services also seems to force close the built-in message app too. If you use something like ChompSMS then it isn't a big deal b/c that still works.

You should probably do some more research before you start messing with that b/c it can brick the OS requiring a full install of the ROM. In this case, if you don't do a restore before removing stuff you'll be restoring the SBF file a lot.
But to answer your question though...the app you want is Titanium Backup Pro (aka the pay version b/c of the "Freeze" option.)

Well since the GB build for the DX just came out, I haven't been able to find a definitive thread anywhere (including on MyDroidWorld) listing what is save to remove or at least freeze. As of right now I think it's safe to say that its going to be a trial and error situation.
There are threads somewhere (droidforums?) about which of the 2.1 and 2.2 apps are safe to remove. While there are some new apps, those that were safe before are still safe. Of the new apps, the blur_yahoo is the only one that's given me trouble. Be warned, though, that while you can remove Backup Assistant and Blur Home, if you do a factory reset from within Android (rather than from clockworkmod), your initial install will break and you'll need to sbf if you can't get back into clockwork.
Also, bluremailengine is needed for blurcalendar to work properly. I remove bluremail, all the third party crap, all the social crap, swipe, and various other things I don't use like universal inbox, widgets, etc. Really, you just need to play with it.

Yea I know about those threads (I have one open right now actually) but since this is a whole new version of Blur & version of Android w/ a lot of changes & new options...who knows what Motorola changed or buried deeper into the system.
Thanks for being the guinea pig though I've never had a reason to use factory reset after a ROM is installed so removing BA & Blur Home isn't a big deal.
One question...have you removed the Messaging & Text Messaging apps at all? I still can't figure out what it was that caused the Text Messaging app to quit on me as soon as it was opened. Not that it's a big deal...b/c ChompSMS worked fine for me
Does anyone else notice a SEVERE amount of lag immediately after you reboot the phone? Lasts about 3-4 minutes every time I reboot then goes away. Affects everything from changing home screens, to opening apps, even turning the ringer volume up and down lags...

I removed all the messaging crap except the default messaging app (conversations.apk). I use Google Voice so I don't use the default app, but I sent myself a message using it and it worked just fine.
Note: you can do a data wipe/factory reset from within clockwork and you'll be fine.
If someone can produce a list of everything in /system/app (well, just the .apks would do), I can mark the ones I've successfully removed without problems.
Ditto to that...I'd be happy to contribute what I've frozen.

Mine takes about 10-15 seconds from the appearance of the homescreen until it's at full speed. Of course, I've overclocked to 1.2 GHz, debloated, zipaligned, implemented drod's rubix tweaks, and used autostarts to kill unnecessary apps from loading at boot.

Hmm. 10-15 seconds seems a tad excessive then. I'm still running stock speed, LPP 0.8.4.1, debloated most major apps and also used Autostarts to kill some apps at boot (as well as in the Widgets menu)...and while I see a slight lag it's not 10-15 seconds.

You're right. I just timed it. About 38 seconds from red M to full appearance of desktop (I've got the boot animation disabled) and about 25 seconds from full desktop to all widgets loaded and ready to go. I underestimated by 40-60%! I'm using the blur launcher, btw.
Something must be wrong with mine then...because mine lasts a good 3 to 4 minutes...and that seems very long for services to be starting...

Hey guys, so I'm wondering if there is some sort of fix or mod I can do to make my home screen not reload all the time. It's frustrating going into an app for a second and going back to home and having it load which usually takes the majority of the time I have the phone on. Doesn't really matter what app I open, it will even do it coming from settings.
Now I did research this a bit and I don't have any task killers or many widgets on the home screen, to be honest, the stock oem home screen setup has more widgets and whatnot than I do. Can't I increase the cache size or something? Memory space has never been a problem with this phone, in fact I hardly even get over 100mb of used RAM. BTW, every ROM I've flashed has been like this, I'm hoping the stock ROM isn't like this too, its just plain annoying.
Thanks

Which rom do you want to use? You can possibly fix it with certain setting depending on which rom. Also are you just using the stock laucher that comes with each rom? Or do u install a preferred one?

He's talking like he's using Sense. To be clear, are you talking about widgets refreshing like with contacts, bookmarks, locations, weather, and the like? The best way to avoid information and widgets being refreshed all the time is to use as much memory as possible all of the time. What's you're looking at is the result of garbage collection... The kernel is tossing out items from memory that haven't been used in a certain amount of time or are assumed to be "stale" information. That kind of garbage collection is set to expire fairy quickly because the first time your calendar widget waits 2 or 3 hours to update and you missed your appointment or date, you'd really wish it didn't wait so long to refresh that data. I'm not sure what can be done to avoid that being the case, but I know it's been a minor irritation to some for a long time. I'm sure if there was an easy fix we'd have seen it by now from HTC themselves. It's commonly sited in reviews as a weakness of the UI compared to iFone.
Hey there,
Was wondering if anyone has found a fix for this yet.
I am having the same problem. If I enter any app and then go back to the home screen, I get the white screen with the green "HTC" logo, then the background appears and reloads everything. It has gotten to the point that every time I open an app it needs to reload. I recently factory reset and changed the SD card to try and fix it, but no luck.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post, hope there is a fix.

I have stock sense and it happens to me every so often too. Maybe once a day so its barely noticable but I always wonder why it does it. Seems to be random and like other poster says I'm either backing out of settings or an app then the htc screen appears and the home page resets all the app icons. Only started doing this after the OTA so maybe something to do with memory management as previously stated in another post.

It hasn't done it in a very long time now. At least a week so not sure what was causing it. I did delete some apps, Netflix being one of them, that I no longer used but I never had Netflix running when it did it.
Problem was a task manager/quick launch app that turned my home button into more like an Alt-Tab. I have since reflashed a new Rom and haven't installed a task manager, and no problems at all. Must have been closing launcher causing it to reboot.

Hello everyone.
I tried to use search to see if there's already been such a question, but came up empty.
I often use the stopwatch app on my Galaxy S, but the problem is, as soon as I open an app or two, the Android system kills the stopwatch process to free memory for new apps (my guess), eventhough stopwatch is still running. It happens regardless of how I exit the stopwatch, via the home button, back button, hold home and select an other app...
Is there a way to somehow increase the priority of the clock app so that the system doesn't kill it whenever it wants?
I use DarkyROM 10.3 based on JVR, but this is happening on any Gingerbread ROM I use, I tried several different kernels (currently using Semaphore 1.6.0bm BigMem version).

I remember seeing an app that could do what I wanted though it couldn't save the settings.
Since I installed Semaphore 1.6.0 bigmem it all looks a bit better, will have to test it more extensively though.
yup think there is some app that can prevent app from killing, cant help tho gl
Go Launcher has the ability to "lock" an app, which prevents it from being killed. Not aware of an app that does the same.

Hi all!
I am a Samsung user genuinely. But since my last phone broke down, it broke my budget too.
Got Nova and here are some bugs.
1) Bluetooth speaker issue. the sound is way late than the video. (Edit: Fixed by going in developer options and changing "Bluetooth audio codec")
2) Camera is not having any kind of stabilization.
3) It hangs like hell and u r not left with any option. Not even restart.
4) Not the fastest 4gb ram phone.
5) The interface of the phone is laggy af ( can be fixed by installing 3rd party launchers).
6) Processor temps are never lower than 60 degree C. Idk if its fine or not but antutu temp sensor always shows it in red text.
These are the ones I could find... tell if u have any.. or at least have found fix for any of them.
BTW...
Today got an update of 288MB which is currently downloading. Hope it fixes some bugs.

Lol I kinda like mine, except for a few things I guess but I got it for a good deal, well I reckon anyway - $380 NZD.
What did you replace it with?
Hello! These issues, especially the Camera app being buggy, are common.
The performance issue, please go to settings > Battery > Battery Usage and see which apps are using a lot of background usage, then click on the app and there's written 'App Launch', click on that and toggle off the 'Manage Automatically' and also toggle off all of the toggled on things to prevent the app from consuming background usage.
On this device you can also disable/uninstall many apps that if u dont need, please do so, here are some list of apps you can disable which would improve performance:
1. Gmail (replace with another mail client like FairEmail)
2. Youtube (replace with another application like NewPipe)
3. You can also disable playstore and the main Google app.
4. You can also disable Google Play Services, this consumes a lot of background usage, more than HMS! You can replace playstore with F-Droid and you can get FOSS apps.
5. Replace Facebook with Frost for Facebook, or disable background access to it from the previous performance issue guide.
I am not getting performance issue on mine, so make sure u check which apps are using background/battery usage a lot so you'd find out.
