Hi I'm using a stock Nexus 4. Recently I've encountered this issue where Chrome would keep opening a new tab every half an hour. Chrome just launches by itself and overrides any app I'm working on. Say I'm playing a game and it would just launch on it's own.
The site it opens remains the same which is: droidsearchapp.info/antivirus/index1.php
It appears to be some anti-virus scan kind of website.
I understand this must have come through some app I have installed but I can't figure out which app because around the time it started, I hadn't installed anything atleast a day before. I've cleared Chrome Cache and Chrome data, even installed Ad Network apps to identify the app which sent this malware in the phone but can't seem to find the culprit.
Any help on this? Any way I can stop Chrome from force opening a new tab?
I can't factory reset the phone, there's a lot of data here and there that I fear losing.
Bump! Anything?
Use opera browser instead
Just a joke. This redirecting and app override issue makes it look very mutch like your device is infected with malware. It's infected with something unfresh certainly.
To me it looks very similar to a Windows infection.

So i am having a issue on my S4, i have searched around and found it to be a problem on many other peoples s4's
When i set a downloaded app. Lets say Apex launcher for example, i press the home key and click to have Apex as my launcher then i choose Always, but when my phone reboots, it doesnt store then infomation so i have to choose it again on boot cause there are two launchers installed. This also happens for things like Google Keyboard (it didn't come pre installed on my phone) im sure it isnt hardware fault cause it happens on my Galaxy ace 3. its really frustrating cause built in apps such as you tube and the stock browser keep there app defaults such as youtube app to open when i click a video on the browser :/ anyone know what i can do?

Have you got it set as the default under Settings>More>Default applications>Home......
I am currently using Nova as the default without having to keep setting it as the default :fingers-crossed:
No problem solved for my S4 but I cant find that on my Ace 3 it just has, application manager and I can only reset the default in there

Hey,
I was wondering if there's an Xposed mod or an app which let you change the Google app that you can open from the Task Manager (on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3, but probably applicable to other phones).
I'm looking for eather to remove it, or change it so it opens up another app.
I've googled and searched on XDA, but I'm probably using the wrong keywords.
Thanks!
I hate google contacts and phone (in call ui) apps but when i disable the 2 apps and try install different ones (like samsungs for example) I get an error message (app not installed), any way to get this sorted? Thanks

Never tried, but maybe don't disable the default apps. Then set the new apps as default.
There's a conflict cos of the same app names (contacts and phone)

Samsung dialer is not compatible with stock Android. You need to have Samsung framework installed to use the dialer because it is made specifically for Samsung phones. OnePlus Dialer, Sony Dialer and other phone brand specific dialers won't work either. You need to download a third party dialer from the Play Store that is generic Android compatible and then change the default dialer to your downloaded app. The Samsung dialer shouldn't even show up in the Play Store when you are using this phone because it's not compatible.
Which 3rd party contacts apps do you recommend?

It drives me nuts that Google Contacts app does not support storing to phone memory. Which 3rd party apps to you recommend?
Hello,
My apologies if this is a LAME question but I have about a weeks experience on Oreo on this new S8. The phone is a "U1" unlocked variant with NO carrier bloatware if that means anything.
It originally came with an early version of Oreo and I started to install apps and such. Got a prompt to install a newer Oreo update so I let it do so overnight. The version installed is 8.0.0 Samsung Experience 9.0, the last Oreo update before Pie. The next day I noticed that some of the apps that used to be in the apps drawer were now missing in action!
Thanks,
Steve
I finally figured out how to "unhide" the system apps and found them still alive and well in the settings /apps menu. So this prompts the generic question - How does one add or remove what apps show up in the app drawer? There is currently one that I would like to remove and a couple that I would like to add. So far internet searching has been unproductive.

In general
Setting - apps
3 dot menu ( top right ) will bring up additional menu items ( including shows systems apps ).
Tapping on app will bring up app Info.
3rd party apps can be uninstall.
System apps can't being uninstall ( some can be disabled ).
Generally any app that you install will show up in apps menu. Uninstalled apps will be removed from apps menu.

Thanks, but I already figured this much out. Here are a couple of more specific examples.
I used to have either downloads / download manager accessible in the app drawer before the software update. Now they show as hidden System Apps in app manager but are no longer showing in the app drawer and can't be launched from the settings / apps (or at least I can't figure out how). Tapping on the app doesn't launch it only goes into the particular app settings/properties. Same thing for the My Files app. All of this happened after a system software update. Samsung thought that they had to clean up the UI some more... UUGGGHHHH!
I accidentally hit the Galaxy Themes app from one of the settings screens and didn't find anything useful that couldn't live without. But now the Galaxy Themes app shows up in my app drawer! I don't need it, will probably never use it, and don't want it there. I guess that I could just hide it but would rather it not be there in the first place.
Thanks,
Steve

Good day.
There should be a toggle in the options of the galaxy theme app that shows or hides the icon on the app drawer. Check there.
